In this video freedo breaks down how to take the first point on overwatch's eichenwalde. This is one of the most notorious map chokes in the whole game and we guide you through how to avoid it and what the best heroes are to achieve this! Let us know what you think and be sure to drop a Like & Subscribe if this helped!
Your Overwatch when i got the notification of the video, before i even saw the name, i thought to myself that it would be great if you would make more videos like this that explains about tactics. a tip, i think you should sometimes use images and really explain overall or something cause sometimes the video itself is taking too much attention from what you're saying. speically in explanation videos like this one.
If you have a competent Pharah, the Symmetra can't accomplish anything. Using the flank over the pit or over the building, Pharah should easily be able to spot and wipe out Symm turrets to help clear the path. If she's doing it right, a few shots takes out the Bastion, a couple shots for the sym turrets, reload, kill the Ana.
You gotta hope for a pick and good ult combos. If you think the enemy has a sound barrier or counter ults, see if you can bait those out first. getting a pick, baiting out their lets is almost an insta cap. Also go for the mercy immediately.
-Pick Pharah -Go Around Back -See the ana -2 Shot Her -See anyone that has hitscan -3 Shot them -Go For Anyone Under 400 health at this point, cause your team will clean up -wow, pharah is good
I guess you missed the part of WHEN to do all this (A huge part of the video) and what you said required a Pharah to have 100% Direct hit accuracy so yea "good Pharah"
All you can really do is ask, or just tell them to push... I find Lucio can be good if you only play support and tell them you'll speed through the choke, but if no one is getting picks it kind of makes it hard :(
i like to just use the game to focus on a specific aspect, since you know you are going to lose. (aiming, zarya bubble placement, discord placement, ability timings, etc.)
Was on (Lijang?) Tower, lost first round (Comp), teammate left. Duo que with friend, soldier and pharah. Lost second, still 5v6. I swapped to Rein, he went Bastion, and we carried our team to a nice win. Was on PS4 though :/. High goldish.
As a healer main, I pray for DPS. I'm often stuck with entire teams of healers in comp. Watch us go Winston, Rat and Mei out of desperation. For real, several very high Diamond games in a row. Healer city. All the fucking time. My rat is dope now tho. lol
As a player with at least one character in each branch, I just want you to do your damn job and do it well. Don't be a DPS when you can't kill. Don't be a Tank just so you can have high HP and be a glaring weakness to our team. Don't be Ana so you can play Widowmaker and heal yourself. Don't be an idiot Defense. Cuz I've seen a lot of those sadly... And double stacking healers or double stacking tanks ISN'T BAD. One may not be enough, but there will always be someone who'll jump on DPS.
Go left up the stairs or right into the building and up those stairs, get highground and attack the point, don't walk into the middle section with the stones.
I tried this and took out a healer and sym turrets , booped the rein and hog to push them too far into the choke and this worked in under a minute. THANK YOU FREEDO
People really need to learn how to communicate and dive. That's how you take those points. You don't even need a specific dive comp, you just need to dive with whatever heroes you have, and do it quick and as a whole team.
Daniel Kemnitz That's the problem. No one dives unless you have a full team in chat to communicate with. That's why I never play competitive unless I have a few buddies to play with and coordinate strategies
partly true. Some teams understand if you just type "dive comp", then they know the basics of going in quick, which is the most important part of breaking a choke. I myself typically pick Pharah here, so if my team won't dive, I will solo dive and pick off a healer and draw the rest of the enemy team away from choke. That will give my team some breathing room and an open space to go in and hopefully help clean up the rest.
The only example you give is to attack with pharah. Maybe use other heroes as examples as well for how to flank or how to properly do the poke battle/push in. We know that you simply like to play pharah but not everyone does. This "guide" is basically useless for 90% of attacking Eichenwalde teams. Give us some strong teams comps that would work well together.
david gao He only showed pharah but the basic message seemed to be "flank around, kill a key target, make the enemy team panic, have your team push and follow through." You could probably use genji, tracer, or sombra as well for this by either sneaking through the choke or going over it.
Dive comps would work. Maybe Pharah and Genji as primary DPS, Mercy and Lucio on support and D.Va and Winston. Obviously this needs coordination, but if you get it to work...
david gao there are guides on how to get around that flank, I think it's tracer, dva and genji that can cross it. maybe a really mlg grapple could get widow behind it.
Yeah I think the point is to try and find a flank route then proceed to kill the enemy team cornerstone. I had that one game some months ago where that genji was ALWAYS finding a way to get to me (as Ana) and the Mercy, completely wrecking our asses. His team was barely able to capitalise on this, but it's that simple. Find your way to the healers, kill them, watch it unfolds.
We use pharah as the example, explain the entire philosophy behind taking the point and recommend LOADS of heroes to take the point as well as how not to take the point. Im not sure what else we would include other than showing the genji perspective, but its just the same as pharah, flank and rekt things :) -w
Sometimes it feels like you guys forget that most of your audience is not on playing diamond/grandmasters level games, and their team cannot capitalize on these solo plays who requires their team's response.
Justin Sloan hmm hard to say since I play both but I noticed immediately that aiming on PC is a lot more precise. Jumping happens a lot more since it's on my left hand and not on my right hand (X) I also crouch less on PC but I think that's just a me issue. I know movement is a big one it probably feels a tiny bit smoother with a controller stick then keys so I would just go into training and really just walk in circles getting use to the keys. The mouse sensitivity should probably as low as comfortably as possible so you can feel more precise with your aiming.
I am very into videos like this: talking about how to specifically address challenges in certain maps. I'd love to see you do a breakdown of the second capture point on Anubis - particularly how to take it.
This is honestly a horrible video that could be done wayyy better. You talk like the only way to get the point is to play pharah. You could give us a sample team comp and play it out in training or on ms paint for all I care. Show us what to do if symmetra's turrets are on the overpass. Tell us what to do if a mei is walking off your Reinhardt at the choke. Things like that would be better than what you have here of showing us some ridiculous pharah team wipe and expecting us to be like 'oh I can do that'
A 30 minute ms paint video could explain much more breadth I'm sure, but I'm not sure that'd be objectively a more enjoyable video to watch... Instead of expecting the scope of a _single_ video to cover the many-many permutations of team comps that can exist, instead I'd direct you to the two videos we've already done on Countering Symmetra, where in the 2nd one I do counter _exactly that_ 'turrets on the overpass' or Counter The NEW Bastion - as there is a Mei on defense there. Even if you 'can' give 30 minute lectures on the game of Overwatch, doesn't mean that's the only way teach it, instead our videos are 10 minutes and focus on a particular subject, this one yes, Flank > Tanks at the choke, but also "How to flank", that's the intended scope. If a video ever doesn't seem to fit your needs either 1) We may have already made one that has or 2) Ask for one that covers something specific.
Okay then maybe next time you should title your video "FLANK VS TANK" or something other than "Overwatch: How To ATTACK Eichenwalde 1ST Point" Kind of fucking misleading isn't it? I was expecting a full video of strategy and explanation, but instead I got a video with you rambling about a Pharah flank for 8 minutes - a clickbaity waste of my time.
another way to take the first point is to act as bait. Be D.VA, walk straight out of the spawn into the destroyed building with the counter and the big healthkit. Dash straight up trough the destroyed roof and go over it. Walk the to the point and cap it. Now some will leave theor position to kill the capping person. With allyour hp and def. matrix you can survive long enough to allow your team fprcing through the choking point.
Apparently it is too hard to figure out that you can use any other flanker for this strategy on this map. Go flank, prioritise your targets, hope your team follows up. It's not rocket science, that you don't need Pharah in particular. But apparently you need to spell that out in the video.
We could all definitely use more of this, guys! Great work, Freedo. Looking forward to seeing one for Hanamura #2. Running solo, my team always just goes off on their own - and I'm definitely curious where we *should* be focusing and maybe how a single player should position themselves amidst 5 folks who seem to just want to run off on their own. Cheers!
this map is truly awful, easily the worst blizzard has ever made. (even worse than hanamura). it's impossible to take the first point due to the choke and the defenders insane respawn advantage. but once you do take it,the rest of the map until the castle may as well not even exist, its completely free. then the castle is the same shit as the beginning, defenders respawn right on top of it.
no, it isn't. hanamura has a tough choke but once the defenders die its a loooong walk. volskaya and anubis give the attackers cover once they make it through the choke. numbani has multiple entrances. god gave you a brain for a reason, use it.
These videos are infinitely better imo than speculation and click-bait videos. Everyone and their mother can speculate on new heroes, use your game knowledge to share insight
one point i'd like to add about the poke at the choke tactic: having a zen on your team really helps if you're just poking at the choke, as the extra DPS helps to break Reinhardt shields faster and discord can help with getting picks. Although dive comps are really the way to go.
really good video and I would love to see more how to capture capture points of specific maps and maybe also the best ways to defend the first points of maps
Another risky play I often do is take the initiative as Rein. If you get a solid pin, and knock back enemies, this causes problems for the enemy, while creating an opening for your team. And since you're the best shield, your team either has to push up with you, or if they're stubborn, poke at the choke with no Rein barrier. However, this takes a certain level of discipline with rein, knowing when to engage and of course, relies on your team following up on your initiation. While it's not always effective as playing the flankers Freedo suggests, it kind of forces your team to play more aggressively.
We did something like this before. I was Hanzo, and asked someone to flank with Pharah, and someone else to flank with her as Dva. Me, soldier, Zenyatta, and Reinhardt got ready for the sign, and as soon as Dva and Pharah started to attack, our Reinhardt charged in immediately, along with Zenyatta, and soldier, while I climbed up to the bridge above the choke, and started sniping. We pretty much team killed them in probably 15 seconds after the flank attack started. It was crazy. But yeah, our coordination was on point, because we attacked all at the same time as soon as the attention of the enemy team was pulled away. Was solo-queue too.
I thought this video was incredibly helpful, and hope you do more precise, map specific videos in the future. I think just about every choke could be productively broken down like this, but might I suggest control point 2 on Factory Volskya ?
My god, I absolutely love this. Please do more of these strategies and stuff like this. One thing I would love to see is a guide on how to actually PLAY heroes instead of a basic guide like everyone else does.
Nice tips, couple I would like to see are breaking dps defence on shuttle controlling open gate on Gibralter, Pushing through end of Gibralter at corner and after bridge, Hanamura breaking A with strong turret defence/Symettra/Torb/Rein when they control the window well. Different attack strategies for dealing with strong defences on Hanamura B and dealing with the trickle factor there.
It would be cool if you could show how to properly push through Point A on Temple of Anubis. The choke hold is different from that of Eichenwalde, and I would love to see what you come up with for a "good" team comp for Temple of Anubis. Also the push on B can be a struggle, specially when the Mercy is getting her ult every 2 seconds and the she can almost res from spawn. Thank you for the great videos you all have helped my game play as well as the others I play with. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
loved this! make more videos like this, please. it was very informative! I have huge problems on Lijang Garden when Capturing the Rooster, never know how to work that map. :(
Good video. i like these videos that are spcific to certain types of situation and appreciate that you edited in an example of what pharah could have done. I have a lot of trouble on KOTH maps, specifically, and would love more detail from you guys on some of the problems unique to these maps. I know my issue is either map specific or all in my head, because my win rate on some maps (Numbani) is significantly higher than on others (any KOTH). Help?
A video on different comps would be great! Maybe giving examples of why certain characters compliment each other. Timing for when to attack as certain characters or when to hide. I understand the basics but at times don't fully know comps that will work. You guys talk about win conditions alot and I try to think of them but I'm still not sure of them at times. This game is full of variables and I can understand how hard it is to explain certain things though, you guys are doing a great job! :)
Thank you so so much! Tweeted this at you a few days ago and it almost feels like a direct answer to it 😂 Hopefully my teams will start pushing into the choke? Not even in Master elo they do... xD

Nice, ty for this.

How to take eichenwalde:
Pray to god you have a decent pharah, and they don't have a symmetra
EpicCity with the bastion cause symmetra alone is do able hard but doable
If you have a somewhat competent Pharah then Symmetra shouldn't be a problem anyway.
If you have a competent Pharah, the Symmetra can't accomplish anything. EpicCity because only pharah can do anything at this map, ts map really sucks ass, like..a lot of ass
EpicCity If ya see SPIKE10854 on xbox one overwatch, ill be phara trust me im good with her
Is it even possible to take the 2nd point on Anubis?! if so please help!
Mei ice walls.... sadly hanamura has other plans
going down the middle is usually a dumb idea, that's really all that can be said
Lucio speed boost in, drop the beat, graviton surge, pulse bomb or other high dps ult, then just mop up the rest. Rein and mei works wonders here.
Built ults, go right side where you get a sliver of high ground, use them. Make sure you kill the Mercy!
You gotta hope for a pick and good ult combos. If you think the enemy has a sound barrier or counter ults, see if you can bait those out first. getting a pick, baiting out their lets is almost an insta cap. Also go for the mercy immediately.
-Pick Pharah
-Go Around Back
-See the ana
-2 Shot Her
-See anyone that has hitscan
-3 Shot them
-Go For Anyone Under 400 health at this point, cause your team will clean up
-wow, pharah is good
Rocu *gets shot down by mcree*
then take ariel cover
Jay, McCree is included in step 5.
I guess you missed the part of WHEN to do all this (A huge part of the video) and what you said required a Pharah to have 100% Direct hit accuracy so yea "good Pharah"
what about when the soldier stops unloading into reins shield and lights you up
You attack it with the Allied Forces.
This joke is going to go over so many people's heads
Lol, too historic?
Hudnofski Blue only the idiots won't understand
that is perfect cause we just started ww2 in my us history class XD
Pincer movement
Could you talk about working with teams that won't push into the choke. Or is it just impossible?
Joshua 2200
ask in team chat, if they still dont i hope you play a beast pharah and can carry lol
Warped no dps for me. I play support almost exclusively.
You can't carry with support. Kills has to be made by your team to progress.
All you can really do is ask, or just tell them to push... I find Lucio can be good if you only play support and tell them you'll speed through the choke, but if no one is getting picks it kind of makes it hard :(
very annoying when that happeneds, maybe try picking a hero that can have a big impact like rein
Can you talk about what to do when a teammate leaves the match
Darryl Lee you lose
Start picturing your sr going down
i like to just use the game to focus on a specific aspect, since you know you are going to lose.
John Joseph doesn't matter if on ps4?
Solid video and explanation along with reasoning. This seems like a great series please continue eventually make one on all maps.
roses are red
violets are blue
there are only DPS
so I always lose
-Almost every console player
zSTALKn Gaming not really
hows that exclusive to consoles it happens even more on PC since theres a larger playerbase
As a healer main, I pray for DPS. I'm often stuck with entire teams of healers in comp. Watch us go Winston, Rat and Mei out of desperation. For real, several very high Diamond games in a row. Healer city. All the fucking time. My rat is dope now tho. lol

come on man! don't ruin our secret Pharah flank! not cool...
I use it for junkrat.
everbody knew about that "pharah flank"...
Makaken not everyone, I certainly will take advantage of that much more secure, al be it over a pit, rout than just over the broken builtding
secret? pshhh I take that route with Lucio
HentaiZero Dude same! Whenever the team goes 5 DPS and poke at choke, I go on mad flanks as Lucio
I would love a video like that on Hanamura Point A. God I hate that map..
Go left up the stairs or right into the building and up those stairs, get highground and attack the point, don't walk into the middle section with the stones.
Lucio speed boost
I tried this and took out a healer and sym turrets , booped the rein and hog to push them too far into the choke and this worked in under a minute. THANK YOU FREEDO
Hanamura and temple of Anubis 2nd points are crazy difficult to cap

i think you should do more videos like this. videos like these are very helpful
I want to know how to do Oasis right
I think I just learned more in one video than I learned from months of trial and error. love this style of tutorial, hope you keep em up!
Sometimes it feels like you guys forget that most of your audience is not on playing diamond/grandmasters level games, and their team cannot capitalize on these solo plays who requires their team's response.
Loved this map specific video. Be great to see more like this and how to win in each game type - payload, control, etc
I've just switched from ps4 to pc and would appreciate tips. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the controls.
Justin Sloan im doing same
Justin Sloan hmm hard to say since I play both but I noticed immediately that aiming on PC is a lot more precise. Jumping happens a lot more since it's on my left hand and not on my right hand (X) I also crouch less on PC but I think that's just a me issue. this should be a series. like if u agree

NOTIFICATION SQUAD WHERE YOU AT.
Really love these style of videos, keep them coming!
so early, feelsgoodman
Yeah I've never been this early before.
Love this video. Never knew about that Pharah flank! Need more like these! Do one on Kings Row attack or Temple of Anubis?
Love being in Notification squad
I love this. These types of videos are very helpful!
not hating on your video, good strat. i just got triggered when you say Eichenwalde when it's pronounced (Eichen-Vall-d)
Fluffy Dogge I know, I want to fucking scream when he says eichenwalde.
Fluffy Dogge ye i know. its eye-hen-walde
It's really bothersome to pronounce it like that... Not everyone speaks German like you.
anime sweet i dont speak german, just pronounce it like you would the word reich

This is crazy. I was thinking about this exact topic today then BAM! You guys make a video confirming what I was thinking
This is honestly a horrible video that could be done wayyy better. You talk like the only way to get the point is to play pharah. You could give us a sample team comp and play it out in training or on ms paint for all I care. Show us what to do if symmetra's turrets are on the overpass. FREEDO Fair enough lol
Okay then maybe next time you should title your video "FLANK VS TANK" or something other than "Overwatch: How To ATTACK Eichenwalde 1ST Point"
Kind of fucking misleading isn't it? I was expecting a full video of strategy and explanation, but instead I got a video with you rambling about a Pharah flank for 8 minutes - a clickbaity waste of my time.

Looking forward to seeing one for Hanamura #2. Running solo, my team always just goes off on their own - and I'm definitely curious where we *should* be focusing and maybe how a single player should position themselves amidst 5 folks who seem to just want to run off on their own.

Hatsune Miku The walk on Eichenwalde isn't a good one either considering after you die you only have 3 ways to get back and 2 of them are chokepoints
Hatsune Miku And you're second point is invalid due to the fact that all defenders stawn on top of it
Hatsune Miku Try again
These videos are infinitely better imo than speculation and click-bait videos. Everyone and their mother can speculate on new heroes, use your game knowledge to share insight
Awesome video. Pls do more on the unique issues the maps present :)
Awesome idea guys! Keep this material coming!
I really liked this kinda video. I'll keep this tips in mind when I play Eichenwalde!
love this type of content, would really like to see this for hanamura, especially point a
Was a super helpful video, and insightful comments - Thanks man!
Love this new format!

Great video. And wow 1080p right away, amazing.
Love it! Do a video like this for the second points on Volskya and Anubis.
The kill feed from that Rein on 4:43 LOL
Good stuff Fellas, info that helps me win is always a plus.
This is great content, thank you!
Great video, great points! Keep them coming!
1:11 "The security blanket of your(my) own team"?
I feel more secure alone. Lmao
I like the idea of specific map technique videos. Thank you
I thought this video was incredibly helpful, and hope you do more precise, map specific videos in the future. I think just about every choke could be productively broken down like this, but might I suggest control point 2 on Factory Volskya ?
Great video mate keep them coming. A few tips for Numbani first point would be sweet. (solo que)
LOVE this! Super helpful, applied advice.
My god, I absolutely love this. Please do more of these strategies and stuff like this. One thing I would love to see is a guide on how to actually PLAY heroes instead of a basic guide like everyone else does.
Explaining how to attack that map helped a lot more than basically going in blind without an actual flanking plan
I love all of your videos. keep it up!
Awesome video!
It will be great if you guys could cover all 2nd points of every assault maps.
love the video,i play paharah and trying out a new flank route is very helpful
I really like this type of video. Please continue them.
Nice tips, couple I would like to see are breaking dps defence on shuttle controlling open gate on Gibralter, Pushing through end of Gibralter at corner and after bridge, Hanamura breaking A with strong turret defence/Symettra/Torb/Rein when they control the window well. Different attack strategies for dealing with strong defences on Hanamura B and dealing with the trickle factor there.
thks for live demo n explaining very helpful
exactly what I needed thank you guys
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Loved this type of video! Try one for volskya!
I very much enjoyed this content and would love more videos like this.
Loved the video!! plz do more eksample like this :D
I loved this video, and would like to see more of it. Hanamura 1st and 2nd points, and Anubis 2nd point would be very helpful!
Wow that Eichenwalde right flank move was insane. Thanks for the vid.
Would love to see more of this style videos.
good stuff as always. this is always a big issue so I'll try this a bit more
Great breakdown. Thank you kindly
lijang Tower, Garden and Market actually. sorry to be asking so much. But i love your channel.
Thank you for this video. I really struggle with this maps first point
Good video. i like these videos that are spcific to certain types of situation and appreciate that you edited in an example of what pharah could have done. I have a lot of trouble on KOTH maps, specifically, and would love more detail from you guys on some of the problems unique to these maps. I know my issue is either map specific or all in my head, because my win rate on some maps (Numbani) is significantly higher than on others (any KOTH). Help?
Love the new video concept!
@Your Overwatch Can you do Hanamura both points and Volskaya particularly first point. Would be awesome! Keep up the great quality videos guys :)
great video, would love to see more like it!
That's some really nice accuracy with Pharah vs things in the air at the beginning btw.
good video, I like the style. I would have liked to see options for other flank/dive style characters other than just Pharah.
How do you hold defense on volskya
how do you deal with the hanamura choke
You gotta do one of these for second point Hanamura. To me that's the hardest point to take.
That first Phara clip was beautiful.
Great great great video! More like it please! Will make competition more fierce and the game more enjoyable overall. Thanks a lot!
Me and my friend play full dive on this choke point. Works every time like a charm. The aggression catches so many teams off guard.
Thank you so so much! Tweeted this at you a few days ago and it almost feels like a direct answer to it 😂 Hopefully my teams will start pushing into the choke? Not even in Master elo they do... xD
What I learn from videos like this, is even if you disagree with a play, EVERYONE you included MUST follow orders and stay organized
