Good video, thanks. Yesterday, before seeing your video I had problems with my fuel line, and was exactly the plastic liner inside the hose. I bought a normal fuel line for cars and installed. Working well.
Modern fuel injected engines still use a vacuum pump to suck the fuel from the tank to a header tank on the engine, so the fuel line and squeeze bulb is still under vacuum . The header tank ( often called the vapour separator and fuel cooler) contains an electric high pressure fuel pump.
FYI; I use Moeller and Tempo brand for 3 years now. I did have a glitch with the Moeller where the engine would not go over half power. I removed it and rinsed it out with water, pumping it. After letting it dry out for a day it was fine and I have been using it ever since. I believe there was speck of dirt clogging it from the fuel tank?
The US Coast Guard will not allow manufacturers to put fuel pumps in gas tanks like cars have due to the risk of fire hazard. If there was a line leak and the pump was in the tank it could pump gallons of gas in the bilge extremely quick that is the fire risk concern. I own a marine repair shop and we service a lot of older outboards in Michigan and see a number of fuel problems. I have looked at almost every aftermarket primer bulb out there and most are junk. I have found Sierra to be the best overall. OEM are of good quality but the Mercury bulb you show which is actually manufactured by Attwood will not move the same volume of fluid as the Sierra bulb does. I have not tried the Evinrude bulb because they cost too damn munch. The fluid volume problem comes from the fact that new primer bulbs now have extra layers of materials in them so you do not get fuel line permeation. But the bulb cannot be made any larger because then it will be too big for your hand. So the volume inside the bulb is now smaller than the old bulbs pre 2012. This makes it hard to get the bulb to prime. If you have to replace your line use the Sierra bulb and install it as close to the gas tank as you can.
soooo, having this exact problem I started doing some homework and it brought me here... my fuel line did exactly that, the inner liner collapsed and stopped fuel flow, then I got another new fuel line and bulb, SUPEX bulb and line and apparently Supex uses some kind of glue to seal the end fittings of the bulb assembly and that glue disintegrated into tiny particles which contaminated the fuel system, the fuel filter was before the primer bulb and not after it so all that contamination went into the fuel pump and carbs, even with the fuel filter on the Mercury outboard... obviously that glue was a MISTAKE to use during assembly, I need to contact the company to notify them of this problem.....
Sickening, how do people get away with selling garbage like this?? This company should be forced to repay you plenty. If the US government were any good they wouldn't ever allow something like this to happen.
the government is who mandated something impossible be accomplished..zero voc...this is the effect of politicians.. wait till the greendeal..you aint seen nothing yet

Thank you for the thank you!

Thank you. Is a fuel pump on the fuel tank, like cars, not allowed in the marine industry?
Happen to me this weekend. Ordered automotive high pressure fuel lines and will install on a quality primer ball.

I had problem with the Mercury fuel line delaminating causing filters to plug up. The line has red writing on it.

The US Coast Guard also shouldn't allow companies to sell garbage like this fuel line and priming bulb.
I see the fuel line is acceptable by USCG standards. Maybe they should use the stuff and be supplied with a paddle for each crew member.

I use automotive fuel injection line on my boat without any problems.
It’s too bad that ethanol free fuel will not be available in Canada within the next year. Or at least it will be extremely hard to find. 😢
I went through two of those fuel lines in two years.
He is correct
good vid, learned as you did years ago, get what you pay for

What black line did you use? Looking to replace mine.
