    79 Cadillac Phaeton. In Western Saddle Firemist. Interior is Antique Saddle. That's a 425. The "reflectors" in the rear are actual lights, side markers just like the front side ones. The cornering lights light when when you have all lights on in conjunction with the turn signal. The blower motor turns on once the engine temp has reached its temperature. It has what is called a heater turn on switch just behind the alternator, single wire. the rear spark plug is easy lol. I start off with that to get it out of the way. I have a 78 Coupe deVille. If you need any help with yours lmk. I'll be glad to assist.

    That car brings back a lot of memories, especially after hearing the chime going off as you were starting it. My dad had a 79 Coupe Deville, which I learned to drive on at the age of 15 many years ago. I used to go out joyriding in it with my brother. Long before they had steering wheel and gear shift locks, we'd put it in neutral and push it out of the garage and down the driveway before starting it when we hit the street. I bought an 84 Coupe after my dad died in 2001 as a tribute to him, but it had the dreadful 4.1 L. I didn't keep it for long. Anyway, keep up the good work!

  • @EarlGuyton425
    @EarlGuyton425 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The way to tell the difference between the 425 and 472 is that all 425 for the 3 year production have corporate blue valve covers and the 425 on the left valve cover is flat on top until you get to the last 4 inches in where the top slopes down

  • @DavidPysnik

    Those Phaeton variants are really cool. The extra bumper fin pieces you have in the back seat are actually for newer models and appear to fit the 1980-84 Devilles and 1980-1992 Fleetwood Broughams/Broughams (though the same car, Cadillac removed the “Fleetwood” name between 1987 and 1992 so they were just called “Brougham” as to avoid confusion with the FWD Fleetwoods of the late 80s, which were very different from the RWD models).

    I've been working at a body shop for a bit now and extra tips I learned was if you're painting the door, it's better to take off the mirror and belt molding (the trim at the bottom of the window) for a better paint job in the end. The mirror can get in the way, and if you're unlucky, the clear coat could stick in that gap between the door and the belt molding.

    The windshield wipers are the original Trico windshield wiper made from stainles steel. You can change only the rubber lip. This a little bit tricky work, however better than ugly new black windshield wipers. I see the black cable for the boot electromagnet hanging down on trunk lid. It must be fixed on the left hinge with a hose fore protect and then with a plug together made with the cable what comes from the front…..thre is somewhere one.
    Then the boot release „will function only with ignition on“. The engine for the hook is on the right in the boot behind the disguising. There is still a fuse. Look whether power there it comes and then look whether the fuse is okay. If then the plug on the switch is something would have to happen. The Blackcable from the Switch Must be on Ground. It’s not got the Trunk Lid Shot down Servo dosent work. it Can Destroy the the Switch. Good luck

    Engine runs good. If it is not shaking its good. New exhaust with a quite muffler like " Quiet-Flow SS # 22317 from Walker“ then sounds like a Cadillac. Headlamp need 8 new headlamp adjuster and 4 springs…..then the lamps you can adjust and looks better…one new sealed beam…one better headlamp door…..

    Hello
    Nice to see somebody work on Cadillac..Im Cadillac driver fore 30 years 1977 Fleetwood Brougham de Elegance.
    The problems with bad start I think not batterie and no starter. Your engine have bad ground. Bolt on a thick wire from batterie minus direct to Bolt on upper generator holder…bracket. then you wonder how fast starter will turn the Engine. Inigtion make it also better. Bad ground bad spark. Original is a twisted copper groud tape from frame to transmission. Meby sombody forget on engine shwab.
    The engine block is the same 425,472,500. All oilpan and valve cover fit all engine. The exhaust manifold is 425 different to 472 and 500. 425 have the reticted Manifold. That’s bring less Power. 472 and 500 better! ….a you have the space problen with the bolt first cylinder and upper control arm. this normal. Cut of a space of control arm….than will it work. I have had 12 year a 500 in….self problem.
    The generator and starter you can rebuild fore smal money. All parts are give seperat.

    That's probably the original 425. You can tell because it looks too good to have been swapped out and plus, if it really was a 500 they would have kept it. I don't understand this thing about a "swapped out engine" being a selling point.

    Go ahead and replace the whole exhaust system and get a vintage tag they're exempt from inspection and never run ethanol gasoline in that car will destroy the fuel pump. It's not worth a few cents a gallon you save your pump will dry out the diaphragm and then all of a sudden the car won't start and it's cuz the diaphragm is torn. And the fuel sender will rot off and then you won't know how much gas you got. Find non-ethanol gas that they put in boats. 87 octane is fine and then you're not going to have fuel system problems trust me I know from experience. And get a brand new fuel pump to keep in the truck with a half inch wrench so when it does happen because that one is old then you got a new one to replace it but never run ethanol gasoline in that car

  • @VintageVaughnVehiclces

    EBay and RockAuto. The hubcap logs are several different color keys that fit those but you might be able to hammer a 16-point socket onto them and turn them, they only turn about an inch to unhook from inside the steel wheel that's all they are hooks. Once you get the Caps off you can actually remove the locks, there are different hubcaps that are a lot lighter I use the vented ones in summer and the non-vented hubcaps in Winter on my Cadillacs.

    Get the dual post battery where you have the top posts and the side posts because you'll be connecting your blower motor wire to that top positive post and having that light switch under the dash to turn the blower motor on and off with an inline 40 amp fuse. It's an l78 battery I think

  • @VintageVaughnVehiclces
    @VintageVaughnVehiclces 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The fuel filter is a 1-in wrench you'll want to cut the pipe just after that because it's not going to unscrew for you. Then unscrew and change the fuel filter screw it back in and then join the two pipes together with a rubber ethanol resistant piece of hose and two clamps. It makes changing that filter easy if the car starts to sputter going up a hill after driving it a while it's time to change the filter again that debris in the tank is clogged it up. Do not add an inline filter and delete the one in the carburetor that thing you can only use the factory filter.

  • @VintageVaughnVehiclces
    @VintageVaughnVehiclces 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    And run 20w50 Castrol non-synthetic with some Lucas in it. Do not run synthetic lightweight engine oil in that car you will Spring leaks everywhere 20w50 and Lucas additive and you'll have no problems.

  • @VintageVaughnVehiclces
    @VintageVaughnVehiclces 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    To empty out the fuel tank disconnect the two pipes from the fuel pump and pump air into the tank using a shock absorber bushing and a nozzle from your air compressor and pump all the fuel down the pipes out of the car when you're done to take note the metal pipe just in front of the frame open the left rear door and then look straight down under there's a corner Bend in that pipe and it's prone to rust in that corner and get a hole in it and then your fuel won't make it to the pump and you won't notice it and you'll get stranded so always check for a wet spot on that part of the fuel line. You want to lower the fuel tank and replace those three rubber pipes. The Junction the fuel lines to the tank. If you're real industrious you'll pull the tank in line it with red coat. And refit the tank. Hopefully that car has rear drum brakes the disc brakes in the rear are always a problem and gave you a low brake pedal. The Fleetwood version of that car had rear disc brakes and aluminum Hood. It is possible to buy the aluminum Hood paint it the same color as your car and replace it and always oil those hood hinges if it's stiff to close stop and get some spray oil and oil every section of the linkages of those hinges. That's crucial so that they won't Bend and in the hood doesn't close right. There's a whole lot more things I've done to these cars to make them like new I drive a 78 Coupe DeVille as my driver car

  • @VintageVaughnVehiclces

    Unless you have paperwork in the glove box about the engine, I seriously doubt that motor was pulled out. It was an h e i, distributor still there, and those tail fins in the floorboard those are for an 80s Cadillac they won't fit that bumper. The rear plastic panels need to be replaced with plastic or fiberglass they come in two different kinds. For 1977-79 Coupe sedan DeVilles or fleetwoods. The air conditioner programmer always shuts down the blower motor so I run a devoted wire from the blower motor to a light switch under the dashboard to turn the blower on and off. Yes the heat even the air May blow out the defroster vents but at least you're able to get the blower to work the programmer is hard to get a rebuilt one and are spendy. How to replace the brake hoses on that car, the belts, the shocks, the headlight adjusters, get a set of H4 H1 halogen conversion headlight replacements. You do have to change the arrangement of the three wires on the low high beam to use the H4 bulb but it's well worth it cuz you can see it night. You simply remove the three wires from the plastic plug change the arrangement until they function properly and then put them back in the plastic plug with a small Spike tool and then you're able to use H4 halogen bulbs. There's a wire under the floorboard next to the floor dimmer switch that sometimes gives a problem, and it suddenly you'll lose your headlights and that's what it is and has to be repaired. I like getting the 1977 front turn indicator lenses that are white not yellow and then use the Switchback bulbs 1156 1157 that are yellow white. You can actually see where you're going with the white parking lights on and when you put the blinker on they changed to Yellow like the modern cars do. A simple bulb Swap and a lens swap. You get the lenses from the salvage yard say you want the clear 1977 version. Why I know these things I have eight Cadillacs. 1976 to 1979 I won't buy one after 1980 because of the aluminum engines. There's a water neck that's made out of cast iron from Four Seasons you can replace the water neck that's on the engine block that steel that rusts and begins to leak with the cast iron version. And I changed the thermostat to a 160. The fan clutch probably needs to be replaced on that car because it's so old if it begins to overheat.

    You're shaking in the front end is a bad tire. It probably has a bulb on it separation in the tread I always know when I get a really bad shake that one of the tires has gotten air between the belts and is about to blow . don't drive too far on that change the front tire change all the tires. And definitely get rid of the catalytic converter. It should be already gone
