- Travis does his first fly and drive on his favorite truck. 1st gen Cummins. This truck was a snow plow truck that’s since been abandoned in the hills of Iowa. Will it run and drive 1300 miles back to Tucson? Find out in this episode.

Got it kinda backwards, you want to buy in arizona and take back to iowa
You aren’t wrong
Just what I was thinking......😂
Haha yeah that body is rotten 😳😆
Yeah, he basically bought it for the drive train. The body is swiss cheese.
@@jetstream454not worst I’ve seen
Amazing content. Most channels would have made this a three part series spread across weeks. Thanks for not doing that.
Lots to play with.. I think the power train is where the money 💰 is .
Those revivals and driving long distances are the best kind of videos! Keep your great work
Your enthusiasm for those Cummins has convinced me that I want one.
They are an engineering marvel.
They're amazing. If you ever have the chance, get one.
They're great if you have the time and money to make them great. Most of the 1st and 2nd gens are very beat up.
@@Texas12valve I cheated and got my 12 valve out of a low miles church owned box truck.
@@Bloodbain88 I also cheated. My dad bought mine brand new in 1994 and gave it to me in 2016 when he bought a new truck.
Incredible work on the truck! I really enjoyed your commentary about the flyover states, farming, and that funky, vintage, fully-furnished, motel room.
Thank you mike
Some horrible things definitely have happened in that hotel room haha
Raw and minimum edits - I didn't expect to stay for the whole video, but your style of telling the story hooked me! Great job on the truck too!
One of your best videos yet loved it. Getting that truck 1300 miles home was a labour of love. Well done dude.
No doubt the Cummins is the best engine made
For those running into voltage regulator problems, the ones sold at O'Reillys, Autozone, or wherever don't like to hold up in these trucks. Some last a couple months, but most last days or weeks. Got a transpo c8313 regulator and has worked flawlessly for over 3 years now.
Glad you made it home. On the other hand I encourage you to give that engine a less rusted out body.
Well done, Travis! At least the old girl got a chance to have one last blast down the highway!! A great video! Cheers from Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 😊
Wow!! You bring back some amazing memories man!! My uncle had an old used car lot with a few old 60 GM’s and Ford’s.
I’m impressed by the old-school knowledge that you have. Your dad reminds me of my uncle which I learned a lot from. Looking forward to seeing more of your awesome videos 👍🏽👍🏽
Awesome video! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Really enjoyed!!
Hell of a journey in that thing. Glad you made it home safe! Great video, was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Dad had me cracking up with all his comments about glad you made it here first, etc
I'm from Iowa, my great grand father would start his day at 4 am with a kerosene lantern and a horse drawn plow and a loaf French bread in his pocket, look up Cole the corn star to see modern day GPS farming in Marshall town Iowa, can't wait to watch you repair the floor, doors and cab corners.
Can’t wait to see what that drivetrain winds up in! 1300 miles and that motor took it like a champ. #donorvehicle 😆
Another beautiful story of American persistence and perseverance. This was your story, and you commented positively and eloquently on the lives of your fellow Americans along the way. What a road trip! I hope you've a mind to do more. If not...well...you have a whole library of automotive and inspirational stories right there on your lot. Aloha and take care!
Yes I love this country. I will definitely be doing more
I feel pretty knowledgeable with trucks and whatnot but your nuanced knowledge of these old cummins trucks really makes me think im learning something as you go along through the start up process.
Travis you have an old soul and an old school appreciation for the American Heartland most young men don’t have. I loved how you connected the dots of how important it is to find and do something that contributes to the good of people…
My hats off to you, bro. I wouldn't have trusted 13 miles, much less 1300!
That was a great adventure... thanks for the ride along
Mac Daddy pimp chair!!!! Hiw freaking awesome! That motel had me written all over it sir! My day ✔️💯💪🏽
That was fun thanks for your time 😊
The bravery riding in that cab is insane. I figured you’d wind up riding on the transfer case looking at that floor lol. 👍👍👍
Nah just stop at tractor supply and grab a cheap flux core and rob some stop signs good to go!

I love seeing a straight 6 i really wish more people would talk about them
I wish people calm the fck down on there prices for these 1st and 2nd gen cummins
Wow. What a truck. Good for you. Thanks
Im only 13 mins in and I just hope you give this truck a whole new lease on life. Yeah there's rust, but panels can be patched and replaced.
Hahahaa the Dad assessment was the best part and he’s right. Glad you made it safe bro!
Excellent video, I like your no nonsense approach and detailed explanation of what you are doing and why
Thank you
Besides the old international this has been one of the coolest videos yet y’all are doing an amazing job man thank you for all you do !
Thanks for the compliment
My favorite was the bald front tire and Dads great eye assessment lol.. Motor sounds perfect 👍
Good job with this fly and drive video! I really enjoy watching this type of bare bones use what you’ve got and make it home video.
Glad you enjoyed 💪🏼
Great road trip. Loved the retro motel room.
Hello, I live in the north of England, less than 20 miles away from the Cummins factory, legend of a place and at those miles that engines just nicely run in
Glad you made it home without issues. Great video as always. Cheers from Florida.
Thanks for watching !
More Cummins content please! Fun to watch
Sure is!
Good stuff. Was awesome hearing that old thing roar to life. Ive got a 97, and the body and front end need work. Badly. But i pop batteries into it and it fires up every time. And its sat for lengthy periods of time. Hopefully i can actually drive the fricking thing some day. Watching these videos gives me hope.
Amazing video I love the road trip in the old rig.
Great show! Too bad about the rust, the truck was really nice when new I bet. And you're sure brave to stay in that old motel!
Love staying in places like that
Glad to see someone is still willing to take a chance, years ago I did it twice on faith. They say God takes care of the feeble minded. Oh well, it worked.☺️. Tom
12 valves start so nice.. literally touch the key and they start.
Thanks for another , Brothers !!
Great video! Quite possibly the best automotive channel going right now! Thank you.
Thank you means a lot
this was awesome, i just watched the whole thing beginning to end. You might have even just got me into 12 valves, ive always been into efi but seeing how easy you got it running and going over the process to do it really made me interested in the manual injection.
This was fun. I enjoyed it. Keep on truckin
Absolutely fantastic video. Many thanks
I like that you're talkin about it
Incredible work on the truck! I really enjoyed your commentary about the flyover states .
That was a fun trip.
Grateful to pick up on details about the 12 valve. This is a great way to learn too. I really enjoy the insane drives you do with these questionable vehicles lol
Great video !!!
That was an awesome trip.
That truck is roached. Cool to take the motor out for a swap into a older dodge truck from the 50s or 60s.
I revived a 1st gen last year, and it mirrored yours exactly. No rear brakes, bad voltage regulator, and tough start.
Love the videos you and your dad are alsome this was a cool video the truck still have alot of good part's so keep them coming and keep on keeping on
If I knew about it it been my next project I love them Cummins
Great video, Really like your Attitude and commentary, love these trucks i have 2 first gens a 2nd and a 96f350 with 96 manual 2nd gen motor and trans. Thanks.
Amazing that the truck made it 1,300 miles. That 70s hotel is a trip, and I've seen my fair share of interesting small town hotels having driven between the west coast and the Midwest quite a few times to visit family. Last time I made the trip I stopped at an... Interesting Howard Johnson's in Gallup, NM.
They were selling 8+ ft tall metal statues made of car parts in the lobby.
That’s crazy
AMAZING you too a chance on them tires.... awesome trip👍🏼👍🏼
Absolutely fantastic vid Mr
The best TH-cam video ive seen lately. Its what TH-cam was made to be.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching !
Im a new subscriber to your channel but i love those old Cummins diesels man! I know a guy who had one a few years back with over 700,000 miles on it....looking forward to seeing more content. Great job 👍
Love this sort of video. It’s amazing that in the uk we would have been pulled over pretty quickly and the car condemned but on the other hand we pay for fuel after we’ve pumped it 😂 funny how some trust systems work in different countries. Great video bud 👍🏻
I just love the idea of flying somewhere to buy an old truck and driving it home across the country.
I'm subscribing to see more of this. These 5.9 cummins are very indestructible. You won't have much trouble with it. There good motors
Nice video, I see why you like this gem model.
I appreciate your videos Bro, especially the journeys with sketchy rides like that!😁
Nice job on the truck and awesome country roads ..
Keep it real buddy there’s so many that have lost the special realness that you have and although I still love those channels this is what’s enjoyable
Thank you means alot
I love those types of Motor Inns. So much character.
New to your channel. I really like this type of content.
I enjoyed the video, more like this please. It looks like you need to find a complete non-rusted body.
Well, another fun trip and video. I truly am envious of you. I'd love to accompany you on one of your forays at some point. We are toying with the idea of moving to the Tucson area so you may be hearing from me in the future. In the meantime, please do some more of the fly n drive videos. I for one love them.
Great video!! Thanks
Good video, cool old truck
Great video. Very interesting to watch.
Another great “will it make it home”! I think people are finding your channel. Keep up these videos!
Found your channel with this video. Looking through your other vids. Looks like im going to be binging all your vids. Great work! Also, subscribed!
Sounds like my Dad's words of encouragement.......btdt!
Just watched your '60 Impala video. I hope you're still enjoying that awesome car!!
What a great find. Congrats 😅
Just bought a wild first Gen cummins that has a sleeper attached from some camping outfitter. Truck measures 22 ft, videos to come soon as we are going to try and get it running again. Love you’re style man. subscribed!
1st ans 2nd gen’s are my favorites. I learned how to drive in my grandpa’s 1st gen manual and my dad had the 2nd gen because of my favorite movie twister
I clicked for the truck but the part about farming and your thoughts on the country means alot.
I seen you at my dad I was to scared to come talk to you but my dad sold you that truck
Should’ve came and said what’s up!!
@@theetravisb I was gonna come talk to you but when I was at the top of the hill you had your cameras up and didn’t wanna interrupt your video you where making
Watching from in the tractor doing tilage in Nebraska! Awesome video and love the way you talk about these small towns and agriculture! Definitely will be watching more. Town of 300 people from Nebraska! Well done!!!
Wow that is a small town, love small town America
Good ol Iowa rot!! I live just north of Council Bluffs a lot of body and frame rot but still some good drive train. I really enjoy yours and Dads videos.
Still kicking myself, several years ago when I was a bright and bushy eyed 17 year old, my grandpa offered me an ‘89 4x4 Cummins for $800. Body had some light rust, but the truck ran and drove flawlessly. I already had a ‘99 Tacoma that I had purchased recently and I didn’t want to pay insurance on 2 vehicles. He ended up selling it to someone else and I’ve never seen that truck again.
On the bright side, 12 years after buying the truck, I still have the Tacoma. 480k miles, I bought the truck at 200k. Never had any real issues with the truck.
This is so cool to watch especially because I'm trying to by one of these but I'm having no luck but congrats on yours
Really enjoyed the content. Great 👍 truck. Thanks for sharing 😊.
Nice job , love those cummins too
Grade A content! Really enjoyed the video. I really think the same when I see a farm, or an old rest stop/hotel. God bless America! For whats left of her. People like you keep it alive! I drove my project car a 98 Subaru across the US from coast to coast over 3k miles. One of the best things I have EVER done hands down. Saw a cross over bridge just like that one spanning over I80 (I think it was), no idea what it was. I appreciate the commentary from your old man, I can relate but he'd beat me up on this one lol. Please keep up the content. I don't subscribe too often, but you earned this one!👍
What a trip that was. Bates Motel, 🤣🤣 I love it.
This was so entertaining. Loved this.
Great video! Got some major gumption to make that drive!
Great to see a new video today. It's good to see a new project. Very nice job. Great find wow. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Fixing. Keep saving them for crusher. Keep Making. God bless.
Thank you for watching God Bless
I'm only 30 minutes from Council Bluffs. I saw the pickup on marketplace. Looks like a good parts truck. Good save.
thank you for the recommendation yt. subscribed....
Great work!
Dad is direct and calm, how stoic he is. NO plan B, equals attractive terror.😶🤣
nice solid truck there. definitely worth saving
