12-Year-Old Genius Goes to Morehouse College!

  • This amazing African American student, 12-year-old Stephen Stafford, was primarily home-schooled by his mother. This mathematics and science prodigy was accepted to Morehouse College. He is currently in his second year and he is still excelling! Just think how many stories we've seen about the lack of academic performance of African American youth. This story is one we must all emulate.

"Why does it matter that he is black?"
That's what I read a couple times in the comments. It shouldn't matter, but it does. Simply because racist like to make it seem as if all blacks are violent and unintelligent. So we have to highlight his race to show that this is what we are more than capable of. But I find it funny though. If he was doing something awful the first thing you'd see is: "He is BLACK" but since he is doing something amazing now people want to say "Why should his race matter?!" want to denote credit to his race subtly.

Tom Cat its an EXCELLENT outcome for him - the issue for minorities i think with education especially in mathematics is negative stereotypes in society (not only from SOME whites but SOME african americans as well). this could of had a huge negative impact on the child. The parents made a VERY good decision to home school to remove him from those that might bring him down - i thoroughly applaud them

I really commend the family that has the time to pay attention to their child or children enough to discover what potential they have and how to keep it progressing. Avon family is still on a roll. I saw this about six months ago. The story mentioned that he was attending Morehouse College at age twelve, nothing about him being so profient in math and science or that he was home schooled. I think home schooling has proven that it really works. What say you family???

I was an advanced student as well. The public school system had to make up classes for my cousin and I as well as a few other students when I was in elementary school because we tested into 11 grade and beyond coursework. I wish more people were in to home courses back then because I got bored with the traditional teaching methods as I got older and fell off track. I am glad to see this.

Congrats to this young brother! I hope he succeeds in whatever he chooses to do in his future. I also hope he continues to have have a thick skin, because there will always be negative individuals who try to diminish your accomplishments(as evidenced by some of these comments). I seriously doubt that any of his bigoted critics were being considered for college admission prior to reaching puberty.

Because African American kids are STEREOTYPED as being :dumb, ignorant, on drugs, in gangs, etc. (all created by the racist media) and this young man is the opposite of that. So yes, we proudly say AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT

Because skin color has no barring on intellect.
      what does it matter?
Get off the race card, there is a much deeper point is being made, than someones skin color.
in the future, when we'll have colonies on other planets, will you still be bringing this issue up? what if he was green or purple or any other color.?
this is why we still have this race problem. too many people are offended by how someone looks.
judge a person by their actions not race.
      C'mmon
ps. he is NOt african american (unless he was born in Africa)
He is an American - period
      Geez
Just be proud that we have such wonderful, smart people among us 9average Joes'. :)
      Peace

      @Magic9053 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

Race card ?? REALLY ? Well let me tell you something about this "race card" If this was a video about a BLACK teen committing a crime, NOBODY would say "why can't it be just a teen committing a crime" but when it comes to something positive, then people like YOU want to bring up the RACE CARD, sorry, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS, so as long as RACE is bought up when it comes to crime, you better be damn sure that I'm going to bring it up when it comes to something POSITIVE, get it now ?? (of course not)
      Have a nice day

Magic9053 Thank you very much for responding back, Magic9053.
I do appreciate you point of view. and unfortunately, you are correct for the most part. and it is very sad that it is this way. But, to say that, I would not make a similar statement, is to assume, that you know, what I would say. and on this point you are wrong - I WOULD (and do) ABSOLUTELY make the same statement!
(unless the perpetrator got away and he/she needs to be found, then of course, you'd need to make all details possible to find the offender.)
      take care and God Bless.

Guess I've failed in keeping my genius 10 yr. old grandson, QUINCI AKA QMANTHEGAMER Protected! Yea Quinci was 9 yrs old for 6 months in 6th grade (skipped 2 x's kindergarten & 4th grade, need to be in 7th currently @ 10 yrs. old) at Rogue SweetWater MiddleSchool in Gwinnett County, where ROGUE Math Teacher Wilcox made a Terrorist Death Threat to my Qman because he got a math question wrong, she states,( U are dead! U gonna die tonight, Ugonna die tonight,! with pointed hand like a gun, in his little face sigh!) Glad teachers in Dekalb County got better sense than these idiot clown teachers & Gwinnett County Board of Ed Administration along with DFYS and the Justice Systemwho all conspired to snatch Quinci from the Halls Of Justice! Based on the lie of the Lying Principal,Eason that she felt threatened via a text, that was sent 2 months prior to courtdate and to numerous people (this is the new way of utilizing,"Stand Your Gound Law" when a certain group of folks are able to feel threatened in their warped minds, and annihilate/jail my 10 yr. old genius babyboy/kid/Quinci from his family, who loves him dearly = Trayvon Martin !) Are we in Jim Crow? Apartheid? Where's the Humanity in all this? Where's the Exeptionalism, that this country claim to be? How is it that currently it's up for debate about saving the Ukraine's! What about saving QUINCI? ADDRESS THE REAL ISSUE OF ROGUE/FRAUD GWINNETT COUNTY SCHOOLS! & THE WHOLE 9 YRDS CAN WE DO THAT? THIS IS A LIVING NIGHTMARE! I WOULDN'T WISH THIS T ON NO ONE! IT'S SO CRUEL sigh! FREE QUINCI ANOTHER GENIUS BLACKBOY TO BE PROUD OF!

It's great that his family is so involved, and that he progressed into college early. I was nowhere near his level of intelligence, but found that many teachers have problems dealing with children whom they know are smarter than they are.
Definitely not all of them, and those who aren't can be very inspiring. But having to suffer through a class where you know the teacher doesn't like you because of your intelligence is not fun at all.
