I think Karma's main issue is something a lot of games fall into, that being that while trying to convey a message, it forgot that inconveniencing the player doesn't necessarily always convey what they want. And yea, I get the point is stress, but there's a point where it actively hampers the game design. Maybe more clarity in things like purchases etc would've fixed this.

From what I've seen, it seems like there's an element (perhaps accidental) of inducing irl stress in the player too from the appearance, to the constant movement of edges, to the stress of trying to figure out how to move forward while not overloading on your stress levels. But it's missing an element of decreasing irl stress levels too. I'm not sure how they would manipulate the player's emotions in that way to match what they're trying to do with the mechanics, but I think if the player felt that balancing act between trying to reach your goals and trying not to overload yourself with stress in a direct way and not just as an "I can totally relate to this issue" type of way it would bring it into a genuinely good game.

Path of Exile isn't overly complicated, it's bloated, because the devs keep pandering to the reddit audience, it feels almost insulting for such a good game as Last Epoch to be put in the same cathegory as PoE.
I think PoE definitely has it's strength, especially in depth of systems and variety. It's just had such a long lifespan that it's difficult to get into today. That's a problem almost every online game with regular content updates faces.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 I think the game used to have good mechanics before the Tencent aquisition then it basically started just adding either boring ones or fake complexity people will just ignore to do what they do always: 6 man running maps ignoring all mechanics. Glad I stopped playing honestly.
I played through Fobia two years ago on the Switch. That wheel you couldn't get past was going way faster for you than it was for me. There is no way you could have made the timing with those mechanics with it going that fast. And don't fret about not beating it, it doesn't get all that much better if at all.
I feel like Karma is missing a more irl interactive element to drive its point as well. Elements that would increase and decrease USER stress as well. Not just as a game mechanic, but as something that the user would feel in their body as a result of interacting with the game. If they could have figured out how to manipulate user emotions that way, I think that could have been super interesting. As it is, the game JUST looks like it has increasing user irl stress levels down pretty well though. It needs elements that decrease stress of the user too.

16:50 Yes, yes it does. As long as the game or product doesn't work, customers are eintitled to say so. It deserve the rating, so other people don't buy it and maybe wait until the issues are fixed, so those customers can have a better experience.

a small critique: you overuse the word "just" throughout your scripts. the word "just" weakens the arguments you are making against or for a game by introducing instability and ambiguity. just can mean "all" or "simply" or "consistently" in a lot of the contexts that it's used in. take it from a fellow "just" addict, you should watch out for it in your scripts. idk if you're even going to read this lol

One of the questions I always had was: "Why does STEAM have unfinished games in the store". Some of these games have been left unfinished for years. Why STEAM?
Because Valve/Steam LOVES $$$ they get 30%+ of all sales. you buy the unfinished game. you forget to refund it. steam get payed. you complain but still buy more steam games, they get payed more... simple.
I've been interested in making something like that for a while, but I'm generally not a fighting game guy. I'd have to really learn a lot in terms of controls and mechanics for the genre, which would be an interesting video in and of itself. My answer in short is...maybe someday haha.

I feel bad for Last Epoch. The first few days of 1.0 were just more than the devs expected and it shows but they are some of the most active devs I have ever seen, constantly working to fix all of the issues and instability. I played it right around when the diablo 4 pre-order beta finished since I was still looking for some arpg action and I'd already finished the diablo 3 season at the time. The game was phenomenal and I blasted through it as a necromancer. I plan to most likely try sorcerer now that it's properly released and out of the iffy stages of launch.

Note 2: Cobra Kai was originally a TH-cam Premium show, not a Netflix show.

And don't fret about not beating it, it doesn't get all that much better if at all.
well for the first game you could have just search a way to find who uploaded the game as it is stored in some sites. (seen it in other channel)
It looks like all of the games from the Dark Astral Dev including Dark Astral are no longer even listed on steam. So thats good news I guess.
I'd probably avoid Galactic Bowling just for its racist stereotyping of the black female character. i don't even wanna know how many people had to nod their heads and be like, "yeah that's a good character let's send it"
How about playing The Legend of Candlewind: Nights & Candles with 3% positive reviews? ;)
But you are not my favourite son, in fact, I don't think you are even my son. Which is why this is so difficult
I disagree
the visitor is just that one Garfield show episode
Out of curiosity when did project z come out? Reason i ask is because it honestly looks like if someone took dysmantle (i think thats how its spelled?) took only the turret defense parts and had no clue what they were doing and botched the fun parts lol might just be because of the pov and graphics though idk
16:50 Yes, yes it does. As long as the game or product doesn't work, customers are eintitled to say so. It deserve the rating, so other people don't buy it and maybe wait until the issues are fixed, so those customers can have a better experience.
18:18 God, $60?!? Sounds like a joke/scam 😅😅
I saw LE in the thumbnail and was about to Deus Vult but its literally because of the reviews eviscerating the server issues that have been fixed by now lol.
I've played it far too much since launch haha
you know what sucks? Im the son that is not the favorite. My family went out to get pinkberry and left me in the bathroom.
Well its been ten years and im now assistant nightmanager of the lowest rated pinkberry in the tri city area.
last epoch looks genuinely amazing, i am putting it on my wish list right now
a small critique: you overuse the word "just" throughout your scripts. the word "just" weakens the arguments you are making against or for a game by introducing instability and ambiguity. just can mean "all" or "simply" or "consistently" in a lot of the contexts that it's used in. take it from a fellow "just" addict, you should watch out for it in your scripts. idk if you're even going to read this lol
Hello. My name is YourFavoriteSon, and I am a "just" addict.
haha, incredible. i hope you don't take this as me disliking your channel, negativity is way too prevalent on the internet. i enjoy your stuff, thanks for putting lots of work into it :D
Steam page currently shows "Mostly Positive" for Last Epoch
Mmm want to try last Enoch. Think i hate about most arpgs is that i do more reading on the game systems and build than I do playing the game
I think Last Epoch fixes a lot of that. That's the main appeal of the game is that you don't really need to do a ton of research just to be good at the game. With that being said, there's still a ton of variety in builds. It's great.
Dang that Streamer game has the most inconsistent game assets across the game..nothing matches
Son, I am disappointed in you putting Nick All-Star Brawl with Rise of Kong and Nerf. Despite it's flaws, its better than those two games. I should cut your allowance by 50¢ for that.
Stylized games are generally better then picture realism crap. Then you get the boring blobs from 07 onwards
It looks like The Visitor does have pre-made assets... The game Ghost Watcher on Steam has the same exact house.
Ah son.. You make me proud!
I played Fobia on the Switch and I reached the end.
I didn't even realize it was on switch lol
How do you get past the wheel? Would you recommend it?
@@zachwathen9689 I can't really remember, but I'm pretty sure, only the spikes should hurt. It wasn't that hard and I'm not very good at Jump'n'runs.
And I liked it. It's not very long but I bought it on sale. Later there is also an enemy, a shadow version of themselves. That was kinda hard.
So yeah I'd recommend.
if u have time try the first cobra kai game : cobra kai the karate kid saga continues , actually brougth me back to old style scrolling beat 'em up and actually had really fun going trought it , second one was meh fun dialogue tho if u are in to the series
Can you not do drugs in Karma? to keep stress levels down cheaply... at first. Seems like an obvious direction to go in
One of the questions I always had was: "Why does STEAM have unfinished games in the store". Some of these games have been left unfinished for years. Why STEAM?
Because Valve/Steam LOVES $$$ they get 30%+ of all sales. you buy the unfinished game. you forget to refund it. steam get payed. you complain but still buy more steam games, they get payed more... simple.
13:16 Yes that does sound like a great game mechanic/system! 😊
With the release and success of tekken 8, any chance we could get a retrospective on the series???
I've been interested in making something like that for a while, but I'm generally not a fighting game guy. I'd have to really learn a lot in terms of controls and mechanics for the genre, which would be an interesting video in and of itself. My answer in short is...maybe someday haha.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 thank for the replay love all your retrospective videos n and regardless of what's next I'm gonna watch it. Keep up the great work son!!!
I've never heard of Last Epoch. It actually looks like a lot of fun. I'm gonna check it out as soon as I'm done with FF7
Dark Astral puts the Ug in Ugly.
I really like the art style of the second game....I can see maybe a horror game in that style
Enjoyed your comments on Last Epoch, and agreed with all of them. Good work being balanced regarding the 1.0 launch.
I plan to most likely try sorcerer now that it's properly released and out of the iffy stages of launch.
i like the game but the release was buggy asf and the latest version is stil buggy asf
Son we love you. This doesn’t have to keep happening!
