I am aware of DIY solderless options prior to publishing. You can opt for crimping the existing harness with quick disconnecting connectors, modifying a JLF harness port to the existing port, etc. I didn't have the time to put it in here but at the least there are options!
I left the stick in and modded it, actually feels like a jlf. 1.5 pound spring 1.5mm actuator 8 way octo gate ALSO No soldering needed at all for the joystick. The 5 pin cable that works on other boards DOES FIT in the Port. The last few pins are grounds. Meaning your cable doesn't have to fit Into All 8 pins, ONLY THE FIRST 5. Stick it in, you can shave the clip if youd prefer to make it snap in perfectly. Check those guides out of your unsure, bit it's exactly as described above. You won't hurt your pcb or anything even if somehow you plugged it in upside down..the controller would just respond as if it's reversed. Win win in the end Very easy, Very!
Hey just FYI for people looking to pick up this fight stick. I opened up mine and it looks like there's been a revision to the design. The metal plate is cut out under the joystick so it looks like these can handle bigger sticks now
I don’t understand why almost every video about modding this arcade stick says you either have to desolder or just cut the wires of the lever. On the other side of those wires is a white connector which you can simply pull out of its header. I can’t imagine that such a cable isn’t available to buy. And apparently there are 8pin to 5pin converter cables available.
Thanks for the video! I just yesterday ordered a LS-62 just comparing measurements and hoping it would fit, your video confirmed it for me. I think it will work fine for shmups!
I was planning to buy this and change the stick with an IL, but thanks to you I see that wouldn't be possible. Your video was extremely helpful, thank you!
I would install a sanwa JLF lever with either a ball-top or a bat-top on it, an eight-way restrictor plate and hayabusa buttons into the 8BitDo PC/Switch arcade stick controller.
There is no reason to solder or desolder anything. Just take it out and replace with what you want. Plug a 5 pin in the same spot as the 8 pin. It works perfectly.
If your happy with snap in sanwa buttons and a jlf this stick is perfect. Managed to get myself one for £50 and with all the features and being wireless for Switch, PC etc makes it the perfect arcade stick 👍
Very nice in-depth analysis! I appreciate that you covered all different kinds of levers. I was wondering whether or not a short collar Korean lever will fit.
For some odd reason here in the Philippines it's priced at 2700 pesos or around $54USD which is basically a steal. A bit disappointing that screw ins and korean levers don't fit in. For the stick most people would probably be content with a spring swap so the small amount of play on the lever fixed along with a JLF PCB swap for cleaner wiring for a real budget mod. But as you said a Sanwa JLF swap would probably be enough for most serious players.
Can you do a latency test with the 2.4ghz connection? I really want to know if it is faster than the fastest Bluetooth options (DS4, Brook Wireless) which are good but have high "Max" values.
Good morning. Can you please tell me if the lever is Sanwa or Qanba compatible? because I would like to change the gate and use it circularly. Ty in advance
Hey cool TH-cam content you have keep up the good work I have a question am new to fight sticks and i was looking into the etokki omni fightstick and I was wondering is it possible to put a iL American battop joystick in it
I was going to purchase Seimitsu LS 56 for this arcade stick but the guy at FocusAttack told me I would likely have to shave the bottom of the case. I was looking forward to trying a Seimitsu out but ended up taking his advice and getting a Sanwa JLF instead. Can you confirm that the LS 56 would not work with this arcade stick?
Late response, but I installed an LS-56-01 in my 8bitdo stick and it works just fine without any modification. I've used that and the LS-55; both fit without any issues.
The original stick is fine. Lol if you play at the actual arcade the sticks are mushy as well as the buttons. Do people think when they mod these that they are getting closer to an arcade experience or it's just some competitive advantage? Could even just be down to cosmetics, I suppose.
Can i ask a question? Is the IL EUROSTICK dust washer is bigger than sanwa and seimitsu dust washer? Looking forward to your fast reply....THANKS....im just curious
So, I am gonna order Seimitsu buttons and a Seimitsu stick. I had the Ls32-01 before on my japanese virtua stick for saturn. Will it fit? I mainly play shmups and beatem ups like Avp, Streets of rage etc
Doesn't it come with a USB C cable though? I'm pretty sure the latency is reduced when wired. However, this is a useful guide either way as I happen to own one.
Great video. I had this on pre-order but cancelled once I read a few early reviews on how there wasn't enough clearance for some joysticks. It's a shame, as the dual wired/wireless functionality could come in real handy. Unfortunately, I doubt 8BitDo will "fix" this stick, or release an improved design anytime soon.
This is the only frustrating thing about this stick! Why do an 8-pin harness? It makes no sense when 5-pin clones sticks are cheap, plentiful, and WAY easier to swap out. Is there a way to solder a 5-pin female harness to the prepped solder points on the stick's PCB?
it techinically still works out if you have a 5 pin harness with a connector on both ends it will still plug into the 8bit do pcb as the the extra 3 pins are just ground anyways.

What options are there? :) I'm not aware sorry.
Just how little space actually is there inside? Would it possibly fit an LS-40 if you invert-mount it (mounting the stick from top-down)?
I left the stick in and modded it, actually feels like a jlf.

Yep! Just saw it. th-cam.com/video/7dlHbMlXZcc/w-d-xo.html
Honestly this comment here is the most helpful bit of information I've found about this stick from TH-cam. Thank you so much dude.
I bought the stick. The New version is modified and compliant with seimitsu ls32

Asperger's 😊
It is well suited for the first acquaintance with arcade sticks. Great controller for fighting games.

You can just use an 8Pin to 5Pin converter for the stick.
You happen to have a link to one?
could just plug in a 5 pin plug to the 8 pin port on PCB you only need one ground pin
If your happy with snap in sanwa buttons and a jlf this stick is perfect. Managed to get myself one for £50 and with all the features and being wireless for Switch, PC etc makes it the perfect arcade stick 👍
Clipping the 5 pin connector is a sacrifice im willing to make
I wonder if you could 3d print a height extension for the case and use longer screws to get the needed depth for some of the sticks that won't fit
Nice video! Would love to see you test the input lag on this stick, because I can't find any concrete info on it atm
Very nice in-depth analysis! I appreciate that you covered all different kinds of levers. I was wondering whether or not a short collar Korean lever will fit.
I have an old one that doesn’t work anymore. The battery died. I want to gut it and put all new parts. Brooks PCB, stick and button
Doesn't work wired?
Did you do it?
@@frumiousgaming yeah made it wireless. For switch ps4 and ps3. It’s dope. I got vids and pix
You can get a 5 pin harness for this stick no sod required

Kinda moddable, but great for raspberry pi and retro style Switch games.
I will likely use this stick for my MiSTer FPGA even if I have a lot of better sticks.
@@ThePhantomnaut What about AllFightSticks? Their sticks are basically designed to be moddable. Through and through.
Bought a used one with 4 sanwa buttons and sanwa joystick used for $60
can you use crown 202 for the button?

I could not hear properly what’s the name of the default stick in the 8bitdo
I believe he said "The stock lever is a Sanwa Denshi JLF knockoff" at 1:43

'it supports virtually every arcade stick ever made' 🤣 literally just lists compatibility with sanwa or seimitsu
