Heh, when i was young, me and my dad would watch these videos all the time. He'd joke around on how you run up to the crossing and hold your camera high in the sky. whenever he did so he'd call you "happy" and would go "ohoho, I'm going to the train, say cheeese!" and it would crack me up. obviously i knew he was joking around. good times.
Normally I would watch everything, trains included but it’s 4:00AM and I haven’t slept and all I’m really interested in in where they are and what the bells sound like
The NERR is calling your name! There’s been a few bell replacements on the mainline such as mechanical bells being replaced with electronic bells and Safetran type 2s being replaced with GS type 3s!
You should come back here at some point because there has been a few bell replacements and Light upgrades on the mainline! And also some LED upgrades on the Old Hickory branch!
The railroad crossing on Hay Street in Lebanon, Tennessee sounds like the one in Cowen, Tennessee with the same Modern Industries mechanical bell. Also the yellow and blue Nashville and Eastern trains look like CSX Transportation trains and the orange ones look like BNSF trains.
Awesome! Here’s a quick update, I will not go to any sirens in Madison County today due to the fact that I’ve been sick since the past week. However, I will redo my first video this month for Madison County.
Hey there. You're like me crossing obessed.its the only place I wacth train's. Got home layout with 3 crossings on it. Love wacthing them activate when I run.have a great railroad day
I used to watch trains on the US Navy spur line that passed by my grandmother's house (private crossing - thus no lights/gates/other stuff). Along that whole spur (since disestablished), the ONLY gated crossing was that of US 301 (Robert Crain Highway) at the eastern end of said spur. Google the Western Charles (MD) Rail Trail (it is in place of that former spur).
US 301 has a lit (but gateless) crossing in my current home county (and the only one I know of) - in Upper Marlboro just south of the US 301/MD 4 interchange. That is a feeder to the CSX (ex-B&O) Alexandria Extension from the CSX (ex-B&O Popes Creek Subdivision (which runs east of US 301 from Bowie to (among other places) Chalk Point, NAWCAD Patuxent River, and Brandywine/Cedarville), before coming to a halt at Morgantown. The NAWCAD spur starts just south of the Prince Georges/Charles County line, and actually used to cross MD 5 in Hughesville, MD twice (first north of town, then again south of it) then did the same (of MD 235) in Saint Mary's County before entering NAWCAD Patuxent River itself. That entire round-robin run (and all four crossings) was replaced with a straight run that has no crossings at all - instead, it stays to the left of first MD 5, then MD 235 (and has an underpass of MD 4, which enters Saint Mary's County via the Gov. Johnson Bridge from Solomons).
Awesome video! I love the crossings on the Old hickory branch line! Also is there a rock train that leaves Nashville Tennessee after music city star 159? I was in MT. Juliet and never saw one but heard there is one that leaves Nashville Tennessee on Friday nights after music city star 159?
this is a great video, must have taken lost of time, waiting and effort to put this together, but you still made it happen! that's what a look for in a content creator. :)
Hi this Joey I am writting to let you that in one of video’s there I a car that goes around the crossing gate I think it is toured the end time is 1129pm on June 1st
I'm can't believe how stupid some drivers are at the crossings without gates. Flashing lights and bells ringing does not give you permission to cross if you stopped then see the train is far enough away to carry on over the tracks. Some didn't even stop at all. Just dumbfounded by these idiots.
Will the crossing signals always time out if the train is just sitting there not moving? Edit: i've always hated the signals that don't have LEDs just because most of the time you can't even see that the signals are on (when theres no gate) because the ones with LEDs are brighter
In one of the video’s almost at the end there is a car that drives around the crossing gate. And that is against the law where where the police at to catch that driver this is from a ex firefighter. Who has seen to many train and car accidents where the train winns from Joey a ex firefighter. I do not want you to like what I wrote I would like for you to try to find the car in the video.
This is a great video!!! The shots are amazing. I am terrified of trains 😅 The power and speed of a train, its just a thing for me. Question, why isn't there gates on some of the crossings? Sorry I am from Illinois and I find this interesting about there being no gates being put down when the bells go off
Thanks! Because the railroad that installed the signals without gates (most of which are from the L&N, a few are from the Tennessee Central, and a few are also from the NERR) didn't see the need to install any gates. In fact, had the Music City Star not been operating on the NERR, there'd probably be a lot fewer gated signals along this line.
There's one gateless railroad crossing in Henderson NC. It's on a tiny street called Carter Cross. And it only connects to 2 roads that goes along with the track.
Thanks! I'll see if it's possible. Most of the older stuff that I haven't recorded is east of Gordonsville, so catching those depends almost entirely on getting a sand train, which won't be running for a few months yet.
You know you're in the South when you encounter RR "Xings" without crossing gates! 🙂 It should be mandatory for gates to be up at all RR crossings so that way it'll limit the amount of stupid people who decide "Hmm, I don't feel like waiting for the train to pass.......oh look no gates let me just floor it and beat the train out!!"(which I've seen plenty of times).
Will NEVER understand the point of blowing the horn once the train is already in the crossing. edit: Then again I really don't know why they blow their horns at any controlled crossing. If some dumbass wants to run a red signal and get hit by a train who cares? It is no different than someone running a red signal at an intersection and getting hit by a crossing semi truck. Still dead and no horn needed or required.
They're required to hold the horn as they pass through the crossing as part of the legally required horn sequence. And they do it as it's found to be safer than not blowing the horn. I assume it's because since people don't hear the train horn, they just drive around the lowered gates assuming the crossing's malfunctioning, only to get hit by the train. In fact, in the 1990s, the state of Florida made the entirety of the Florida East Coast Railway a "quiet zone" (a place where trains don't blow their horns except in an emergency). However, afterwards, the FRA noticed an increase in accidents along the FEC, so they made them start blowing their horns again and the accidents went back down. As a result of this, the FRA created new regulations about quiet zones, including mandatory safety upgrades to crossings (such as quad-gates and/or non-traversable medians to prevent people going around the gates), which went into effect in 2005.
@@freebrickproductions Thanks for the reply. So in other words Federal law is protecting idiots from getting hit by trains.
