    I am always amazed when looking at videos like this, HOW much lack of attention with their products most/some people have. I might be over careful but some people are really not interested at all about their properties. Exactly what a consumer based economy wants

    Vince you should get a 3d printer! I got one and i've already used it to fix a label printer for ebay, cost me £20 untested and one of the holding clips wasnt holding anymore so I printed a new one and now it works flawlessly. Saved me at least £30 if not more, it will pay for itself. I suppose the only hard part is designing the models, I have a friend who does it for me but some common parts can just be downloaded.

    • @gower1973
      @gower1973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Brooke big difference between making a clip and making gears, you need to know the math to calculate the proper involuted angle to profile the teeth, its waste of money to buy a printer for hundreds of pounds when you can just buy the parts from the Shenzhen market for pennies.

    • @tumbles8350
      @tumbles8350 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you ever made gears on a printer? No maths, just count the amount of teeth and there will be a way to generate the gear you want, I got a printer about 4 years ago for 150, that's the price of 10 of those gear parts he mentioned. Still working to this day perfectly. Saves you pissing about crossing your fingers hoping you don't die of old age before the parts arrive from China.

    • @perica38
      @perica38 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Pillock25 Making gears in fusion 360 takes about 20 seconds. There is a plugin, you just input the number of gear, modulus and pressure angle and software does the rest.

    • @PetRatty
      @PetRatty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @LaggerrLover
      @LaggerrLover 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Pillock25 no, it will be worth. The skill he obtain will be used for next fix. For me having 3D printer is advantage for fixing stuff. Plus, 3D printer had large community. Searching a gear template with adjustable perimeter is just a matter of second. So yes, in my opinion it worth having 3D printer and learn CAD.

    Keep in mind a lot of the chain run products use off the shelf parts Example: 28.50 those rollers are just like the rollers used in ink and bubble jet printers paper guild trays, Meaning more stuff you take apart and squirrel away parts, the more stuff you can fix for less money later down the road.

    You really need a 3D printer. Plastic parts like the flattend tail wheel is perfect to be replaced using a printer. With a bit of tinkering you could even print new gears in ABS. It is even perfect for improving devices during repairs since you already know why it broke you can strengthen parts. However it needs some learning, but - well- you already learned so much in the process.

    you can fix a gear using J-B weld first use a needle file to straighten the gear teeth that are still intact then clean the gear with alcohol to remove any trace of oil or grease then coat the gear it will mesh with using grease then mix up the J-B weld and apply it to the gear in the area that is missing teeth place them on their shaft slowly rotate them and let the grease coated gear press into the J-B weld it will form new teeth remove them carefully and let harden you might have to use the file on the new teeth to remove excess , I have used this method to fix plastic gears but I always use the five minute J-B weld
