    Upon observing your videos of you shooting a recurve bow I instantly scored your evaluations and recommendations at a 1 out of a possible score of 10. You released the arrows without a fixed and stable anchor point. draw hand away from face. Additionally, in one video you actually released the shaft while your draw hand was in front of your face. As for the stacking of the Samick, reduce the brace height to lowest factory recommendation. I have set up two Samick Sages recurves for 2 nephews with no stack problem and I have a 30.25" draw.
    As for the difference in the limb bolts, those have nothing to do with the performance of either bow. I do have to say that my experience setting up the Samick Sage was positive for an inexpensive bow.
    BTW: Been setting up and shooting recurves of many brands and draw-weights for 56 years.

      @@nenolaura2199 Price is almost equal but Black hunter is much better in quality. Samick sage stacks at longer draw length. Black hunter is smooth even upto 30" + draw length. That’s because Black hunter has dual lamination bamboo core limbs which is much smoother and shoots much faster than normal maple wood core limbs.
      Also, Samick sage 62" bow with 19" riser and medium size limbs. Black hunter is 60" with 15" riser and long limbs. Although Black hunter is 2 inch shorter in overall size, it has longer limbs than samick sage.
      Only reasons you may choose sage over black hunter if you want to use sight, plunger button and elevated rest, you can use those in Black hunter because of lack of attachment points. But you are not gonna use those in trad bow, are you.

    Look, this bow offers additional limbs for only $69.95 each set.
    You can buy limbs from #25 to #60 in 5# increments.
    So buy yourself a #25lb Sage, and learn anchor points and get your muscle memory, and also train you back muscles by getting them engaged at lower weights.
    The average man doesn't have enough back strength to perform #40lb dumbell fly's properly. And probably won't be able to draw the bow fully, with a pinched shoulder blade, and hold it longer than a split second or two.
    Everyone should get the #25 bow and a half dozen light spined arrows and shoot them till they ware the arrows out or lose them all.
    Then buy a new set of limbs for $70 of the draw weight you desire and pick arrows appropriate to that. Maybe use #25, then #35, then upgrade again to #45 for hunting. Or stay at #35 for easy target shooting that doesn't tire you out after a few shots.

That Spyder/Nova bow has smaller handle that sits in my hand better as I have small to medium size hands but a long arms so smaller handle and longer limbs suits me better.

    Thanks, Both bows look great. You did a good job explaining. I would have liked to see a poundage scale showing the stacking, but I have done it with a scale and seen the difference in my bows. ... I had a Bear bow that crashed a limb after just 48 days of shooting. Thats when I found out that the bows were made by another company in Florida. Warranty replacement came from there and I ship my damaged bow there. First replacement was absolutely unfit for shooting and 5 pounds less than the one that failed. Bear was terrible at the emails back and forth. It took over three months to get a satisfactory replacement on a $500 bow. I would never buy another Bear bow. The fiberglass tips inside the recurve had been ground so thin, I could see the color of the wood underneath. I refused to even string up. However, I do like the final replacement. It is the 48 inch model recurve. My draw length is 25.5 . It does start stacking heavily at about 26 inches. I do use that though to identify full draw along with anchor point.

  • @BrentRanck
    @BrentRanck ปีที่แล้ว

I’m 6’ 3” and the bow I’m learning on is a 62” but when I pull all the way to the corner of my mouth it gets much harder and when I release the arrow tends to go crazy. Probably just my novice release but when I don’t pull all the way back and release the arrow fly’s straight. After this video I would think it is stacking that I don’t like about that PSE Razor back.

  • @KiwiBushcraftAndSurvival
    @KiwiBushcraftAndSurvival 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I am keeping my sage because it has the features I need, but I have learnt many valid points that you have raised, especially with the stacking. I really liked how you measured out the 24", 26" and 28" increments on the arrow. I draw at 27.5" max, which lowers my 45# bow only slightly. My guess would be that it lowers to about 42.5# maybe?
    I wonder if you could do a video demonstrating how much poundage (#) a bow will lose if you are not drawing it to its full length. The reason why I ask this is because my thoughts are, if I was to drop my draw down to maybe 26" I could prevent stacking and maybe still be getting the power of 40#. In my country (New Zealand) the minimum bow hunting draw weight factor is 15 kg (35 lb). So that would still be ample to take down anything in my country.
    Also, I know this option may not be recommended because I probably wouldn't be properly anchoring? But then this begs the question? When reaction shooting, do we really need to get a full draw and anchor prior to releasing the shot. Or can accurracy still be maintained or by releasing earlier. Considering that by releasing earlier at say 26" and not having any stacking, might would mean less shacking, and of course a make a more accurate shot?
    A video on your opinion would be much appreciated, or at the very minimum your comment would be much appreciated.

      You can draw a fiberglass laminated, traditional recurve bow back, until the tips nearly touch each other.
      "Stacking" is simply where the draw weight diverges exponentially.
      They say plan on 2-1/2lb additional draw weight per inch beyond 28" or wherever the bow is rated #@draw length.
      But some bows "stack" quicker, where the first inch past it's rated 28" draw length may be +2lb, the second inch will add +3lb, and another inch might add +5lb.
      So a #40 bow rated at 28" might actually draw nearly #50 at 31" draw length.
      Simply buy a lighter draw weight bow.

    Well his reasons for the change is his preference but welcome to recurve bows it's what they do that was the whole idea behind the design of the recurve bow do the homework it builds energy when a bow starts reaching its full potential your building poundage simple math right well I would say drop the poundage a little and make it up on the back wall as well as in your arrow builds that's what we do ? Humm I have two samick sage recurve bows one stays at 60 lb. The other one I have multiple limbs for at 40 lb. I shoot a 30 in. 500 spinne 460 grn. Arrow and group under 4 in. That's shooting 100% trad. Love my bows, oh at 15 yards shooting this guy's expressing his choice and why. I recommend go and shoot a couple bow to find your weight tolerance and feel then create the arrow that bow likes then stacking problem gone.

  • @nenadstanojevic1427
    @nenadstanojevic1427 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What you have missed on both of your bows is that, none of them can launch the arrow straight.
    Both bows, angle the arrow to the left. Looking at both of the risers, none of them have any kind of decent decent alignment.
    The string is alligned with the limbs, yes good however , the design and thickness of the riser is all wrong. The arrow should leave the bow as straight as possible however, the way these limbs are designed, this is never possible.
    Even if you shoot off the shelf, the arrow alignment is off and to the left. If you screw in a arrow rest with plunger button, the bad arrow alignment will become even more pronounced.
    If you shoot off the shelf, you have the flight fletchers coming into contact with the riser sending the arrow sideways to some degree.
    With the arrow rest and plunger button, your flectchers will hopefully clear and contact with the riser however, the string allignment with respect to the arrow, will be badly out of allignment.
    Out of the two bows, which should you choose?
    None of them. They are both inferior, irrespective of limb stacking.

      Hi Boemtie, Thanks for the comment! No, I wasn't able to officially measure speed with these two bows. Just from my judgement, I think with lighter arrows the two bows are comparable, with heavy arrows the Spyder XL wins.

      Hi Emanuel, I actually got them from Amazon. Normally it doesn't seem like they carry a lot of good feather arrows but these have been great. They are TTAD turkey feather carbon arrows. They are on the heavy side so I would only recommend them if you are shooting at least a 40 pound bow. They are good for hunting too. I don't know if I can post links in comments but I'll give it a shot. www.amazon.com/TTAD-Feather-Hunting-Archery-Compound/dp/B07842SZ1C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539653118&sr=8-1&keywords=TTAD

    Samick sage is overrated. It stacks quite a lot after 28" draw length. Black hunter from mandarin duck is much better in quality with same price. 60" bow ( 15" riser with long limb), dual laminated bamboo core limb, no sign of stacking even in 30" draw length. Only reason of using sage over black hunter is gonna be using sight or bow fishing gear. But a trad shooter is not gonna use any of those.
    Black hunter >>> Samick sage

    That light poundage bow will “stack” as you call it at 26” if your form is as bad as yours.
    I’m think what your confused on is that your shot cycle does not engage your back muscles to execute the shot.
    You pull back your string arm with your biceps and forearm muscles, you have no fixed anchor point on your face to draw to each time and you lack the physical discipline and conditioning to push forward and engage your bow arm with clean strait alignment.
    A poor archer blames the bow.
    This bow is much better than you are at archery.
    Ps I wouldn’t even stand on the same range as you if you were shooting a compound bow.
