Toyota and Chevy charge more for the red tow hooks that they praise in their new trucks as they won't have much else to brag about I guess.

I got one of these (Spyder XL, 35#) about a month before your review. I've since been watching many of your videos, learning a lot, and have been lately wondering what you'd think of the Spyder. Today, I find this review! Glad your reaction was so favorable. Thanks for everything you do - incredibly helpful!
Any beginners and intermediates out there considering this bow, go for it. You'll be very pleased.

What great timing! I just got a Spyder Takedown as an introductory bow. As I’m a bigger person ( 185 cm), so I’m worried that I should have considered the XL, but I’m excited to apply your advice and dive in to shooting.

    Mr. Nu
I am a novice archer. A week ago I was shooting a bow that i made from a maple tree and after a couple of hours of shooting , I started feeling a bit scared of missing the target . A few minutes ago I went on the internet and I searched it up . Apearently it's called " target panic " . I was interested have you ever experienced it and could you make a video on it .
P.S. I find your videos informing and thank you for the lessons on how to corectly shoot a bow . Great work .

First complete sight picture is always the best. Train yourself to release on the first good lock. Looking for perfection and second guessing leads to a greater margin of error. You'll get fatigued second guessing.

"as you know red makes everything go faster..." never thought of that! how true! i LOVE the hidden humor in your videos!
hey, great point that you made about the spyder being able to accept the samick's take-down bolts. that way, if someone prefers the spyder but wants to take it backpacking in the take-down stage, they can be confident in knowing that they can opt for the samick's bolts & not have to worry about losing the wrench.

i just re-watched this vid. after seeing it the 1st time, i became really interested in it and did some research. i ended up emailing southwest archery (BTW, they gave me an excellent response time to my noob questions) and they told me that the bow is not ILF compatible. that may or may not make a difference to someone who might be considering this bow.
since this bow is not ILF compatible, i'd be curious to know how dependable is the spyder's assembly over the long haul and how easy it is to align the limbs along the riser. i think there is some kind of stabilizing piece that runs parallel to the bolts, but i thought i heard that there might be enough play to allow fine tuning of the alignment (possibly with shims??).
although i thought you gave a real good description of the differences between the sage and spyder's riser thickness and how each should feel in one's hand, myself being more of a visual learner, it would be helpful to have some side-by-side picts of the risers to give a visual comparison of just how much difference there is between the 2.
and lastly, i also recently found out that samick was recently bought out by another company (don't recall by who), so the quality of future samick products may or may not differ from the older samick bows/supplies.

anyone have an opinion about this vs the m.d. black hunter? i know that the hunter is more simplistic but he seems to enjoy both. however i am 5' 11'' and have pretty long arms and worried that the hunter might be too short for my draw length... I bought a similar bow 62 inch made by gp1, and it will fit sage lim's.
Attachment points, is their really anything stopping you from adding them ?. The layouts are the same as with this bow, Maybe their are just a few factories making a similar style.
I have seen stick on clickers that attach to the top limb, so by placing an extra attachment point, would it comprise the wooden riser in any way?
I am not trying to turn a sows ear into a silk purse, I'm just on a very tight budget at this time but where I can, I will place better equipment one day on another bow when I can. Some will say, save up. being on a DSP and trying to build my strength back up at this time , money is just not a luxury. Just asking are their limits.

Great review! I'm thinking of picking this up.
I intend to sand away any shine and stain the red stripe to a darker color. Would this cause any problems? My main concern is the shine protects against water/moisture.

    • @solonys9775
      @solonys9775 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

From a woodworking/bowyer perspective, this shouldn't cause any problems, especially since the red stripe is decorative. Just make sure to sand the entire riser with something around 240 grit and then coat it with a spray matte or flat lacquer once your stain has dried. I know that the big box hardware stores carry the Deft brand of spray, which works well. The spray will protect your bow, and using matte or flat will remove the gloss issue.
The reason to sand the entire thing is to prevent adhesion problems between the new lacquer and whatever the Spyder is coated with from the factory, which could cause flaking of the finish. Make sure to tape off the various holes and the metal on the limb pockets before spraying so you don't get lacquer in the threads.

Originally I was looking to get a Samick Sage, but thanks in part to your review I will be getting this Spyder bow in the standard length as my draw is 27.5 inch. One thing that drew me to it was its appearance. It has a more finished look than the Sage, but in no way am I knocking the Sage. One option I will get is the replacement Sage finger bolts. I really like the tool-less option of the Sage, because with my luck I would lose the Allen wrench just when I needed it. Thank you for your videos as I am learning a lot from them.
**My only concern is what weight to get on the limbs as my only experience with a bow has been my compound bow with a 70 lbs. draw weight, but I know it has a let-off; so I am not actually holding 70 lbs. I'm thinking of 30-35 lbs. Do you have any advice on this point?

You should be just fine even with the standard length model. The XL would be a bit smoother to draw with maybe just a touch slower arrow speed. But the differences aren't so big with only a 2 inch difference in length. Or thinking individually, the xl limbs are only an inch longer each. Get whichever you would prefer. And keep in mind the xl limbs don't come in the 60 pound option like the normal length limbs do if you want that at some point.

    • @SebastianDavidPB
      @SebastianDavidPB 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Here most coaches will advise you after they know your draw length and weight
usually taking into account a spine chart, which is only a reference point.
But there's more to it, like how well the energy transfer is made via string material,
then the intended use, target practice (cut to length) or hunting (an inch longer to not cut yourself with broadheads), and so on.
After being a cheapskate myself I wish now that I would have listened to more experienced archers and spent extra $ to build the arrows from scratch and perfectly tune them to the bow, that way you also have control on arrow weight, balance, and more fine stuff...

The Black Hunter (goes by many names but it's origin is the junxing f171 I believe)
      Galaxy Black Ridge
      Southwest Archery Tigershark
      OMP Adventure 2.0
Good vintage bows if you know what to look for. (Look up spots to look at on a forum)
      Ragim Black Bear (more expensive)
      Bearpaw Hopi (more expensive)
Many others that I can't remember at the moment. I know you asked Nu, but these are the ones I've done some searching on that seem to be quality bows.

I'm fairly positive the only differences between the normal spyder and the spyder xl is limb length, And that the xl limbs aren't available in 60 pounds like the normal length limbs are. No difference for the riser so the grip would be the same size

Yep, risers the same and they go up to a 55 pound

First, let me say I enjoy your videos. I have learned quite a bit from your tips and other information. With that, I purchased the Spyder XL bow 40LB, and the limbs would not fit the limb pockets. I did not want to damage the bow by forcing them in, but I ended up bending the metal pockets out a few millimeters and even so, the limbs fit very very tightly. I bolted them in and strung it and it pulls fine, I like how smooth it is, but I feel I would have been better off going with OMP.

I'm interested in your comment here, as I'm considering getting a Spyder XL myself. Hopefully, the issue with the too-snug pockets is not usually the case and you just had bad luck with your particular bow. Will it get easier over time, perhaps? Anyway, what I wanted to ask was how does the XL's riser fit your hand? Nu Sensei mentioned the grip being a tad small, but went on to say the XL may be different. It would probably make sense for the grip to be scaled up for larger archers with longer draw lengths, so how does it feel for you? Thanks in advance for any hints you can share 👍

Nu can you do a video on the Japanese yumi? I found a paper online that did a good job explaining why the yumi was the shape it is.

I’m wondering if having a stronger position for your wrist would really help that much when shooting a bow and would like to know your opinion.

Instead of doing another review of Polaris/Sage clone, maybe you could look up Stingray(from SouthWest of course)?
I researched the brand and it's an interesting riser. It is not a wooden bow but made of some polymers(???), and also ILF. Interesting.

Brock Mead I personally really recommend a recurve bow because it is much harder to use than a compound. To me the compound bow does everything for the but if that is what you are looking for. (no offence) but good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for and I hope you enjoy archery.
