Paul, YOU ARE SO AMAZING. You speak so kindly and beautiful of Art. You should be the HERO, the MENTOR for a lot of these bands, some of who are brothers, even related to one another, who has stayed apart and bitter forever. Life is short and your humility Paul is so calming, and actually your character, resonates through your music! We LOVE YOUR HEART!

Paul Simon, the true poet, not Bob Dylan, not taking anything away from Bob, but Paul knew how to touch the working mans soul, and speak for us. God bless you Paul.

Art's voice is fine now. I saw him at The Kennedy Center in July. He was wonderful. Paul claimed he was retiring from performing last year but he's performing on Sept.22 in a Hurtucane Harvey benefit with James Taylor and Willie Nelson. So it's not over yet! I would love to see Paul and Art just once more. They are magical together! Always have been.

Paul has definitely not retired ! After that report he toured UK and Europe late last year. Also toured the US in June this year donating all profits from the to to the E. O Wilson Biodiversity Foundation. Looking forward to hearing him perform with Willie Nelson this week

Paul is a hard working artist. Kind words in these clips about Art. Friends since eleven, like our long term relationships, there are ups and downs. Paul was right to criticize John Lennon. Paul tribute playing of Surfer Girl tribute to Brian Wilson was an original arrangement, so beautiful. Paul has nice fingerpicking. Wrote good songs, many good lyrics, though some were depressing. Arranged great harmonies. I like the early stuff best. As a solo artist, Paul had solid pop songs, but not the tenderness. Foray into a Broadway show did not work out. Exploiting African and South American artists? No, he made them famous and their music heard. Many good contributions. Paul can be a temperamental man. Do not rub the wrong way.

I saw S&G at the New Orleans Jazz Festival sometime around 2010. Art had to stop singing after a while. He couldn't hit the notes. It was so sad, though it is good to know how Paul felt bad for Art, plus how he took up for him when a joke was made about Art in the movie he references in this video here. It's awful thing to lose one's singing voice, such a priceless gift.

I could tell exactly what was going on because I lost some range in my voice as well due to a surgery that I had on my neck where they sort of toss the vocal chords around to get them out of the way. I used to have a lot of range but not since 1998. It was a muddy day, remember? I can't stand for long, so I remember just sitting down right among everyone sort of in the mud waiting for them to start.

I know someone who got to hear them in Greenwich Village when they were still really boys, before anybody outside that little area knew who they were. Said they were already amazing together. I wonder what we missed out on because they had a falling out for so long. Well, because of that falling out we got a lot of amazing solo work.

When ever Paul Simon and ART Garfunkel decide to tour or release an album / they always refer back to the fights and the tensions that they had when they grew up/ and it works because it brings more focus and high lights their individual talents and their diffrences but it will never change the fact that they grew up together and lived 3 blocks from each other.....cheers

Willie Finn - Nothing takes the place of being there. A good example you skipped is the British Invasion. But there was absolutely terrific TV show and movie themes, country music was great, with great songwriters, and the new blood making their way. Hell, there was great music in TV ads. There was plenty of bad music foisted off on us by the music industry, too. It's difficult to understand, most "60s music" you get is where the legal rights(publishing rights) have been settled. There are artists you never hear, because of a legal dispute over who's gonna get the money, like movies playing songs they can get cheap because of the corporate entity making the movie owning the rights to a song - and there's a better song, but No, they would have to PAY for it.
For great music, I forgive both for everything. And I will still make jokes about how short they are.

Valerie Russo 1 yr. after Hurricane Kachina I got an unexpected call from a friend here in New Orleans. This friend had 2 free tickets to New Orleans Jazz&Heritage Festival! It was pouring rain when she called and the site was notorious for being muddy+difficult to park, huge crowds (hard to get up close) but we both agreed that to see Paul Simon live it would have to be worth it. And, in short, it was. He did some duets with local musicians and was on the same exact stage w/jumbotrons that is used for the 2010 tour kickoff video on TH-cam of Art&Paul together at Jazzfest. Paul must have enjoyed his New Orleans visit in 2006 because he returned with Art in 2010. My big sister got me hooked on folk music and them. I never thought I would ever see either one. And free!! Wonder why I love New Orleans? lol

I know that. Was just trying to say Paul says only nice things in public about Art. the other clips are more recent. Have not heard him say a negative word about Art in interviews for many years. they really drifted about many years ago. Sadly Art finds it difficult to let go of the past.

Here's hoping they'll get back to being friends again, even if Art reverted to a ten-year old in that interview. He said those things right after the journo told him Sting had performed 'Bridge..' w Paul, so I guess he got jealous or something.. still, really stupid things to say

What Art did last year was just awful nasty. What made it worse was to read him say in the next breath how he'd like to tour with Paul again! I really cannot blame Paul for saying that's it! It seems to be an unpleasant traits of Art. Slag Paul off on one hand and then say how sweet it would be to sing with him! Not nice

    • @brenda19ish
      @brenda19ish  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Totally agree Pagan. Paul did not get into a slanging match over it. Wisely did not comment. Fair enough to say they would not be touring again. He must get sick of the question !

    • @Anonyomus

I think that the magazine might have twisted his words and turned his point upside down compared to his actual point to create a bit of scandal and get readers. I don't defend Art for what he's been like, but I can relate to him in the matter of losing your voice. I'm a singer myself and losing my voice is the most frustrating and depressing things that could happen to me. I lost mine last winter for couple of months due to the dry and cold air(I'm from Finland, so winters are sometimes very cold and dry) and prolonged flu kept mucus and slime in my throat and in my bronchus. Whatever I did and tried to reduce the mucus, it didn't work. So I lost almost an half of my vocal scale and couldn't record the songs for my band. Add relationship problems to that as well, so that your mind is not with you, when it should be. It'll make you sad and mad and I'm very sure that it was like that to Garfunkel as well. He wasn't really himself there.
I overcame this condition in this spring/summer and I've got my voice back again. But that period of not able to sing well is very shit. I can imagine how Art's condition has eaten him inside and made him bitter. It just crushes your confidence to lose your talent you've done for many years.

  • @leonakita

Paul is really a swell guy to make accolades of his overblown pompous partner ( 4:36 ) who wrote a book outlining how he has been mistreated in the duo even though he is responsible for the great sound of their 60s material.....hmmmm...Who wrote the songs again?? Certainly they wouldn't sound the same without Art's voice, but his voice ins't what it once was...so lets not take away the fact that Simon was by far the most important piece of this puzzle!
