Love the Nitro. If you're a gear head like me you love getting your hands dirty, tuning it just right. opening up the engine for a little port and polish, You can even re port them to give you a powerband on the low or high side. Part of the fun for me is working on them not just plug and play. batteries sucked when I was growing up but a whole new ball game nowadays. but I'll still take the roar of a finely tuned machine of the whine of a battery. Just my 2 cents.
@@timesweeper9778 yes especially when you pull the throttle on the radio and the throttle in the engine corresponds likewise..love that connected feeling when running nitro cars
My nitro cars always drew crowds! The sound, smell faint smoke trails along with dirt roost and dust....... Damnit I want another one. RC10GT & HPI Nitro MT 👍🏾
Dude, I was that kid with the 1/10 scale grave digger! The guy who was race marshal was my grandpa, that was the day I drove that truck on the track for the first time
Both cars are great in my opinion. Electric have sick torque but nitro has higher top speed(I think). Nitro cars makes you sound like your running a chainsaw on wheels. But if all the maintenance on a nitro is annoying, electric is the best choice.
awesome!! my buddy just bought a 1/8 nitro buggie cant wait till it comes in to ripp it! its his first nitro rc truck/car so hes pretty excited specially after watching vids like this 1! very nice!
Nice comparison. Nitro just evokes speed by way of noise. The electric reminds me of a Tesla - stealthy fast. Ive owned gasoline, nitro, and electric rc cars. My number one complaint was getting the fueled cars running and to stay running. The electric was plug and play. No guessing. Theres something to be said about the noise though. The electric wasnt as fun because it was only a visual experience. The gas and nitros are so much more, and take skill to operate. If yiu want to get into the hobby, buy an electric and learn about wheels, handling, suspension, etc, as they crossover well. Then get a fueled car if you have the skill. If you cant start the fueled car, you still have your electric to play with.
Adrian Luna yes exactly. Both are fast, and honestly electric is going to have more power due to its nature. However Nitro can be ran all day, and has many other percs on top of the fact that its a tiny nitro engine which is awesome. A ten minute main with the best of the best driving, electric would prob be faster...
Totally. Like Cody King. Haha. That guy is on rails man. And with his road brakes (Now standard) his kit stops on a dime when jumping a 30 foot triple and goes into a turn.
Dude that was such a good race, it was a joy to watch and funny to see you guys being nice to each other even tho there was some intense racing going on.
nice vid. A good comparison that so many of us are making when choosing what to run. Its ideal to have both! I have 2 nitro mugen mbx6's and may well e convert 1 just to try it out. A good brushless setup in 1/8 buggy is definitely fast...however a good nitro setup is equally potent on track. The experience of running nitro is definitely more all encompassing/ less sterile.. the sound/fuel/moving parts...elec to me feels easier to be more consistent with, the power more linear, smoother, so easier to control. I used to be en e lover....now i'm more on the fence.nitro can be awesome for a long day at the track, e for a quick blast when time is short. they r both great fun
most electric guys say electric is better than nitro because they cant tune a nitro truck, But nothing better than the sound and smell of some morning nitro, lol
lackland3 Nitro has a bit of a learning curve but once you're past that it's pretty much plain sailing. I've had electric and nitro, electric cars are just so much easier but really only get about half an hour out of it, I'd rather take my nitro down to the track for four hours.
I just got back into the rc hobby. i went with an electric. but i mostly miss the nitro smell and the runtime and as someone with only 1 battery for his car charging at the track is a nightmare
Considering everything is equal especially the tires, suspension set-up, servos, radio system and weight of each car, it will be decided upon by who is the better driver and will always be the winner.
That was a good video, E car was a bit faster but the drivers were matched well enough it didn't really matter, if either bobbled the other passed. Nice job.
Most racers tune their engines to run the way they want their rcs to drive not whats the best for the engine so they get the best performance for that race
Ilike Realflight Dont see why it cant be done, even mixed races? Quick swap lipo setups should not be hard. little annoying that cars are not designed for that... yet.... Lipos could click it and plug in at the same time resulting in pitstops of 3 seconds!
@@JohnConnor12 It's not dead, it's just become a niche part of the hobby, like 1/12th scale pan cars. You still see nitro powered 1/8th scale buggies, GT and Can-am, and 1/10th scale touring cars because people still like to run those classes. Heck, even 1/10th scale nitro truck looks like it might be making a comeback - Traxxas is bringing back the Nitro Rustler and Jato 3.3.
If only you could get a smaller version of the 5th scale engines to fit 1/8th buggies, they're a lot more reliable and so much easier to tune, and cheaper on fuel too.
keithrx3c that is what they are doing now. Losi has a 2stroke gas engine in its eight 3.0. Its a larger displacement but makes almost as much power as a nitro .21, much more reliable and very cheap to run. Not gonna see anyone racing them probably, but for a weekend warrior they are a good option.

Welp, I like both nitro and electric myself and your battery argument isn't completely valid. You can bring mutliple batteries and charge them in your car while driving your RC car. It'll drain your cars battery, but it'll take a coupld hours to fully drain a standard car battery so you'll vastly increase the run time this way. Charging batteries is relatively easy, definitely not more complicated than tuning a nitro engine. I definitely enjoy driving and tinkering with my Nanda BD8 nitro buddy, it's a lot of fun to drive, but electric is definitely more convenient and reliable. Oh dear... It should run out in roughly 9 mins(if 1/8) or 10-13(if 1/10. Depending on the size of the engine). A good test is to hold tight on the fuel line that is going into the engine. If it shuts down in ~2 sec or less, increase the fuel. If it shuts down in 3-4 seconds, your fuel mix is great on the low-speed needle. If it takes longer, lower the amount of fuel. Only do a 1/8 turn on the needle and do the same test again. If you get stuck, use the setting suggestions in the manual and work out from there.
