Thanks bossxii...this is the best video review I have seen so far. Nobody has touched on using external media with the Transformer yet or how to do it. I am definately buying one! Thanks!
I just wanted to say ,I really like the video. You covered all the things that i would have wanted to see.I'm planning on getting one here real soon. Thanks for the great review and keep on keepin on man.I look forward to the next video..
I am starting to fall in love with that device, im an Apple fan, i have their computers, the iPhone and the ipad but its all last years technology, i bought a MacBook Air 11" for work early this year because there was not a device like this on the market.
Man, thanks your review (1st of yr videos I've watched). Good Job, it's the best review of the transformer I've seen yet. Definitely helped in making my choice to get one.
Hey boss, I think you have amazingly detailed reviews. Thank you for taking the time to provide these reviews. I want a Transformer, but I think I am going to wait until the Transformer 2 is released (hopefully sometime mid-October)
Great review! So great to see the USB Hard drive functioning. I'm going to be maxing out my storage when I finally get mine. 32GB internal, 32GB micro SD and I'm going to try my 64GB SD card that I use with my HD camcorder. 128GB Eee Pad. I can't wait.
I have since sold this TF and have the Nexus 7, but with regards to typing I had no lag issues with the TF. If you are looking for this type of setup I'm sure the new TF Prime would still be a great choice. The keyboard/tablet combo is amazing for battery life. I had it for about 6 months and traveled for my work. You will be amazed when you can go for 2 or 3 days and not have to find an outlet. Depending on use 16+ hours is not uncommon, not that 8 or 10 is bad but if you travel, it's amazing.
Just got a keyboard dock station off Ebay today. Can't wait to see how it does. The tf101 may have a few years on it but it will be great for me with the added keyboard and mouse. Great video bossxii
The transformer comes pre loaded with Polaris office which has spread sheets, and word precessing, it also saves the files in office format. I've had mine since June and as an android tablet it's brilliant. However, it's now on its way back to asus for the 4th time for varying problems to do with the keyboard, speakers and charging issues. But I do maintain that it's one of the best android tablets available.
A great review!! keep it up! I've just got one question left about the transformer, how do you rate the sound, is the sound good enough to lisent to music at a public place without risking not be able to hear it or is it bad? If availiable can you please compare the sound with an Ipad 2 or something.
Very nice review. I'd be interested to see the My Desktop app. I know it can connect to any local computers, but does it work over the internet, and what's the latancy like? I ask because if I was getting one of these, I'd want to be using a few Windows-only applications with it. Once again, great review!
Great video, man. I saw this in a store today and think I might get one. The only thing I wanted to find out was what the web browsing experience is like? Does it go to 'mobile' version of websites or does it use a full on web browsing experience? Cheers!
thanx for the great review! Man, this asus transformer is the best tablet i have seen so far, with its form factor, and surprisingly, its not that expensive as other tablets, ... whats the catch here? btw, noob question, is USB mouse supported?
@ThisGuysVids If you have the tablet on the dock, plug in the dock. The tablet will charge to full first, then the dock. If you have a dock at say 50% and you use the tablet down to 10%, the dock will charge the tablet until its dead. In other words the tablet always gets priority of being charged first.
@ThisGuysVids Not sure if you figured it out, but along the top row of keys, their is a button to turn on or off the mouse pad. If you keys don't work your dock maybe simply have a dead battery. Try it plugged in? If still not working, may have a defective one. Not sure beyond that.
@Omar1297 Yes, it can be used to play flash based web games and works with some apps. I also just caught an article today that someone has plugged in a PS3 controller via the USB port and it works for some games as well. Pretty cool stuff coming out since 3.1 enables USB host support.
@willyWillba Yes, the keyboard base is just like a huge battery and will charge any device plugged into the USB. I assume at a rate of (1 watt) similar to any USB you would find on a netbook or laptop.
@alextamulis Cool, thanks for the video reply some good stuff in there. I haven't had the chance to even see all the different options for emulators let alone the time to install and test. Nice video, and talk about some memories of old 8 and 16bit games! I really need to get Donkey Kong.. man the quarters that machine ate...
@bossxii Thanks for the response! Here are a few other concerns i'd like to ask about: 1.) Is office support okay? Can polaris handle 2003 and 2007 office documents? How about open office? 2.) Has the keyboard dock battery issue been fixed? 3.) How's the quality of Bluetooth audio? Does it have the metallic noise i hear in android phones? 4.) Android's famous for lag, it's a sad truth, but it's the lesser evil compared to apple products. What parts does the transformer usually lag? Thanks!
GREAT VIDEO! Answered more of my questions :) still have a question though. Since it has 2 USB slots, is it possible to plug in two hard drives, and have them transfer files from one to another? If so, is it easy to do so?
@tambulee The internal memory is going to be used primarily for Apps from the Market. I think 16gig is more than enough considering the micro SD card slot on the tablet and the regular SD slot on the dock. You can buy micro SD cards to store pretty much all other media. If you buy the dock, even normal SD cards which are relatively cheap. I purchased a 32gig, class 10 SD card for $54 bucks at a local Micro Center, the Micro SD are roughly double that for same size/speed of card.
@AranTheLegend If you root the device, sure. You can also go into setting on a stock TF and uncheck the "trusted content" box and your free to side load just about anything. Whether they all work or not is up to you to find out. The risk involved should be researched so your not just loading harmful programs on your device. I would suggest finding forums that deal with topics of non-market apps, rooting and a modified/hacked OS.
I do travel photography yielding several hundreds Gb of photos and is away form my home desktop for weeks. Very impressed with yr detail description of the support for ext-Hdd. Would you know if it will support up to 1TB 2.5 HDDs. The keyboard has two usb ports. I would expect you can transfer photos from a CF memory card in a card reader straight to the HDD without having to move to the internal memory and then move to hdd? If yes, this has potential to replace my Dell netbook.
@chicagojoe12 The dock does make it feel like a netbook for sure. If you want portability, I'd go with just a tablet for sure. With Google voice many quick notes and emails can be done via voice once you get used to using it. Not to mention swype and all the custom keyboards you get use to customize it to your liking.
Thanks for your review, very informative! I'm curious about a few things: Would a logitech wireless mouse work with the keyboard, you know, the Logitech mouse with a mini USB receiver, like the M705? Perhaps you have one around to plug in? And probably not, but would Logitech® ClearChat™ PC Wireless headset work? Cheers, Erik
@tase25 I agree... but then again there is a hotkey to disable the trackpad when not needed. I found myself using the touch screen and keyboard vs trackpad and keyboard most of the time. Unless I am doing something like word/excel type work, then I would probably just hook up my BT mouse.
I'm primarily finding a tablet to watch Anime from an external HDD so i like what you've shown here.. Therefore, my primary concerns are: 1. NTFS support - Were the HDD's you plugged in formatted in NTFS? Can you read 4+ gig files? Can you store 4+ gig on tablet memory? 2. MKV support - What codecs can it handle? 3. Does it have subtitle support?
@bossxii That's quick! And good to know. Got another question for you, if you don't mind. Does the Transformer properly sync with Outlook Exchange Server, like my HTC Desire (and your Thunderbolt, I reckon)?
@neilbantoc37 1) Yes, NTFS works no problem. The drive you see in the video is NTFS and I use it all the time on various machines. I honestly haven't tried anything 4+gigs. It deals with 2gig+ files but I don't know that I even have a movie that large. 2) MKV has had varied success based on a few different media players. I would suggest xdadevelopers forums to find more info about MKV support. 3)Yes
@Mohammered The quick menu is part of the build in browser. With the 3.1 software update it looks a bit different but still one of the best browsing control setups I've used.
@goglee3 Thanks for the tip! Ya I realize it was messing with the focus and ease of viewing. I"m a noob at this whole thing so learning as I go. Thanks again for the tip.
@kentankt The files can be imported/exported to Office, although some of the formatting needs adjusting once into Office. I found the "word" docs needed a fair bit of formatting once imported into MS Office. This of course was my experience, with very little experience doing it, so could be partially user error.
@The666Heretic I guess it will work. I use an external hdd with the OTG adapter, so this should be the same and better, considering the hdd has a really noticeable effects in battery life.
@Qdobaismydrug I've heard rumors that a Tegra 3 based Transformer may show up around the end of 2011 or early 2012. As with any tablet right now, expect updates at least once a year if not more often.
@DJTEVAdotCOM I'll look into that. I do know when it finds a wifi network you do have the option to connect directly to DHCP or Proxy as options. I"ll see if I can demo it in a upcoming video. I tend to shoot my video's on the weekend.
@csgoogle I have used a 250, 320 and 500gig 2.5" HDD with no issues on the TF. I have copied from one to the other, and pretty much moved files from the SD, Micro SD and HDD in all directions without issue. It supports having 2 HDD's and a Micro SD and SD plugged in at once. It is not a drag and drop operation, but a copy or cut and paste, but gets the job done with jus a few clicks. I see no reason why a 1TB drive would not work. I'm guessing everything under 2gigs will be supported.
@x0MelissaMASSACRE0x You can't add memory to the actual device, but as far as the SD card slots... not sure of the limitation. I think their is 128gig normal sized SD cards, that plus the fact you can carry a 1 or 2TB external HDD I'm guessing storage isn't going to be an issue.
@swaingh I think I read someone had a hack to get USB support to the Tablet only, I"ll have to look around on the forums a bit and see if I can find the solution. I'm currently only able to hook up USB HDD to the dock USB ports.
Also he didnt mention is the keyboard plus the tablet is quite heavy. Heavier than a 15.6 laptop. I think its probably due to the hinge and the battery.
@funkychimp using a free video converter calle "Any Video Converter". I use a JVC camcorder to record i 1080p then rip to AVI 1080p custom settings at a high bitrate on the video trying to retain as much qulity as possible and keeping file size under control.
Hey BOSS love your videos, i was wondering 1. What video file formats can the transformer playback? 2. What other pictures format can it read besides JPEG if any?. i.e. RAW. PNG, TIFF.
Hey I wanted to ask you. I recently got the Asus Transformer 300T and I absolutely love it. I wanted to know if it is possible to access an external HDD with this keyboard dock to the tablet? I am planning to do some Java programming on it through AIDE app for on the go and wanted to transfer my codings over to my Netbean application. I am sure that I could get a usb hub that has 5+ additional usb ports to work on this tablet.
@beschuit Well... I almost didn't believe my eyes! I have the Logitech MX1000 wireless mouse, plugged in the USB dongle... BOOM it WORKS! WOW, lol very cool. Great suggestion. I'll be posting a video with that little feature later today. Never even considered it due to the drivers I usually have to load to make it work on a regular PC.
@morell21212 Keyboard is great, while still a netbook sized keyboard it works very well. The battery life is as good or better than the tablet. I would usually just use up the KB battery by the end of the day and then have the tablet ready to go as I messed with it in the evening. IMO the KB dock sets the TF apart from every other tablet out there, in a good way. Everyone wants to yell for freedom of choice... well that's exactly what the Transformer offers. Best of both worlds.
nice review, thanks. I am wondering if the transformer works when the tablet is plugged into the dock and closed. I want to connect an external screen (via hdmi) and bluetooth keyboard/mouse! Thanks!!
@beschuit The wireless headset is a coin toss, but after seeing the mouse work, it may work as well. I don't have a USB headset or I'd try it out for you. If I was a betting man on what I've seen work so far, I'd say yes! More than likely basic functionality will work, just as with the MX1000 mouse, I can't use all the buttons with macro's I have setup on my computer, but as a basic 3 button mouse, works perfect.
@peterson99755 Have you tried Rockplayer lite? or any of the free video players on the market? Also how you encode them will make a difference. To high of a bit rate and you will bog it down. Also the stock player seems to have some issues with anything HD. Try something like Rockplayer lite or other free players on the market.
@Psycoticfcuk Yes sir. If you watched the video, at 7:25 I plug in a 2.5" portable USB HDD and it powers up and works great. I've transfered data and streamed movies off it. No issues at all.
@inkaana It's on par with the iPad, but as I mentioned in the review, I think the Xoom has better sound and louder volume than either the TF or iPad or iPad 2. I ended up buying a Bluetooth speaker from Jawbone called the "Jambox". Love it, great sound, wireless, no lag and a 8 to 10 hour battery life.
@EaglClawAirsoft I would guess anything is possible if you get something like Widows loaded on it. There are a ton of mods people have been doing. xdadevelopers has a great community of people with some cool ideas and software mods.
@rfestejo it will go to mobile websites. But you can change the settings in your browser NOT be in Mobile mode. Transformer 2 coming out though.. So you might want to hold on to your money...
I was thinking about getting a Dell Vostro 3450, but looking at this if I buy a 32GB Transformer+32GB microSD+32GB SD card+keyboard dock=94GB laptop/tablet hybrid!!!! :) and not to mention getting an external HD
this looks amazing. i love my laptop, but its kinda bulky/ too big to bring to classes. too bad the keybaord dock is another 150. maybe i can just have the tablet til my birthday and get the keyboard then or something.
I have been researching and transformer and slider and I am liking transformer more but how laggy is the keyboard when typing versus a netbook or a laptop? Some reviews say that there is a delay when typing and deleting. Also how solid is the attachment between the dock and the tablet?
@bossxii I did not get the proxy setting option on mine. It's a hidden feature that u have to unlock with an app called "any cut". Proxy setting is used mainly in schools and university which students need to access the internet at school unless u have 3g or 4g
@jahuuja007 I can plug in my video camera, and xfer the files once I put the video camera in "hard drive" mode. But the TF can't read the files as they are .TOF type files. It should work to transfer in pics via USB or SD though.
@carlos69silva Sorry, i'm not sure about using an external DVD/Burner with it. I would guess it's possible, but have no idea what/if additional software is needed. I'd suggest looking up the XDA developers site, they have tons of great info and tips on doing all sorts of things.
Can you tell me exactly what external hard drive you got? I travel alot and it would be nice to put a hard drive in my bag with my tablet and be able to watch movies without putting three movies on the sd card.
Good job on the video. This was exactly the type of review i was looking for. Thank you for going in depth.

Man you did a great job, I'm subscribing right now... keep up the good work brother.
Great hardware and software review. I wanted a Prime at first, but this model seems more suited for my personal needs. Thanks!
Thanks for the very useful review. Certainly answered a lot of my questions regrading the Transformer.
Excellent review! Thanks for posting. My dock is on the way and I'm looking forward to using it.
Each time I see one of your videos I feel more confident that THIS is what I'm buying o.o.
I have since sold this TF and have the Nexus 7, but with regards to typing I had no lag issues with the TF.
Garry Brown Thank you! Enjoy, it's the pioneer model for the newest tablets like the surface so clearly the were doing something right.
Great review, really jelped me make my desition to buy or not to by, best reveiw iv seen yet of this product :)
Keep the videos coming.. we like them !!
The keyboard battery is such a genius design choice by Asus
great video seriously good job you covered everything i was wondering and more lol keep it up, liked and subscribed

Thank you for the good review! What browser are you using in this video?
Great review, sold me!
@willyWillba Yes, the keyboard base is just like a huge battery and will charge any device plugged into the USB. I assume at a rate of (1 watt) similar to any USB you would find on a netbook or laptop.

@dirtydmack Thank you for the kind words, I'm a rookie at reviews and mostly doing them as a hobby. Glad I could be of some help.
this is the iPad 3 Killer!
Finally!
I hate you bossxii, for turning me bankrupt when i have to buy this! Awesom review, on of the best i've seen on youtube :)) keep it up!
I. WANT. IT!
@tambulee The internal memory is going to be used primarily for Apps from the Market. what you could have also done, was to show the actual physical docking mechanism and un-docking it
Nice review. Very useful

You should show how easy it is to dock. Also is there a mouse when the tablet is docked?

Well Im glad I watched this as now if the thinkpad tablet doesnt come to market I know I have a very solid backup plan!
Nice video. For some people this might be better choice instead of MacBook air.

@MrBettabeats When I purchased it $129, not sure what it goes for now.
@bigmoth14 This is the regular Transformer, but if the Prime is an upgrade I'm sure it's a nice pc of hardware.
Just got the 16gb and love it
@Psycoticfcuk Yes sir.
@bossxii Excellent! Thank you! If at all possible, could you try running a game of some sort? Easiest way to see input lag.
Great review! Can you tether your cell signal? Does anyone know?
@jhill1023 I would srsly recommend getting the 16Gb tho, since you can get more memory cheaply by using MicroSD cards.
Can you tell me exactly what external hard drive you got? I travel alot and it would be nice to put a hard drive in my bag with my tablet and be able to watch movies without putting three movies on the sd card.
when you were in the browser and you brought up that menu from the side, is that a native feature or is it from an app?
Thanks for the Reveiw
Bill
