Text: Charles Wesley | Tune: WILTON
O Thou who camest from above
The pure, celestial fire to impart,
Kindle a flame of sacred love
On the mean altar of my heart.
There let it for Thy glory burn,
With inextinguishable blaze;
And, trembling, to its source return
In humble love and fervent praise.
Jesus, confirm my heart’s desire
To work and speak and think for Thee;
Still let me guard the holy fire,
And still stir up Thy gift in me;
Ready for all Thy perfect will,
My acts of faith and love repeat,
Till death Thine endless mercies seal,
And make the sacrifice complete.
This was our wedding hymn in March 1983. Seeing the lyrics only and hearing this sung today made the words my prayer again. Thank you for this recording.

A most beautiful celestial combination of songs of praise and expression of our faith.
Another woefully underrated tune.
This is the tune used in the British Conference as well as The Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas.
very very underrated. My late mother's mom second after "rock of ages" and before "hark my soul tis the Lord's"
Do you know the name of the tune? I can only find Hereford for it.
Thank you for providing the lyrics and music for this hymn which we don't sing in our congregation. Wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the Savior's love.
Stir up thy gift in me!
