2024 Aston Martin Vantage review. It’s got serious power but is it too aggressive for its own good?

  • The new 2024 Aston Martin Vantage looks beautiful and has a serious chunk of horsepower but is it just too much if you only intend driving it on road?

Harry thinks like an owner who has to spend his own money and live with his choices...as opposed to a journalist...who's invariably driving a car he/she can't afford, will never own and has a vested interest in giving a good review so as to remain on the manufacturer's invitation list.

Doug Demuro recommended your channel, I'm glad I checked it out. Your videos are lovely, I absolutely adore your ability to capture viewers' attention without unnecessary high dopamine editing or constantly shouting, like some other youtubers do. Cars are a main focus and you often tell great stories about them, it's a joy to listen to.

The design is really outstanding. Of course Harry communicates his oppinions, thats the reason for his channel. At my age (61) I can call myself nostalgic too, and be honest, all those modern touch screen, display controlled, fumbling knob cars are not anymore mine. The desire for physical controls is not nostalgia. They really are a better experience. You can develop muscle memory for where each function is, which allows you to focus on the road. Touch screens cause distracted driving because you are required to take your eyes off the road. Sometime in the future, touch screens will no longer be allowed in new cars.

Harry captures the essence when he calls the engine a hooligan. The ride still being stiff at its softest setting makes it a bit less desirable compared to other modern sports cars that do have a GT mode. Streets aren't race tracks and have lots of imperfections that makes stiff suspensions tough to live with over time as older Vantage owners can attest.

As always, a super-high quality and entertaining video from Mr Metcalfe, the man every car enthusiast would like to buy a beer. Personally I usually watch them while I’m cooking…(my wife can’t cook!🤣)
Anyway, the car is utterly wonderful obviously. I’m so happy it exists, can’t wait to see one on the road and would love to have a drive in one. Actually I probably could because I’m sixty years old and dealers tend to take me seriously - but I never test cars I know I won’t buy because it just feels wrong to me to waste the dealers’ time.
But seriously? Over twice the price of a fully loaded BMW G82 XDrive? - a car that is quicker, a much better GT, one that can seat four and their luggage and one that will probably 🤞 be more reliable.
Of course you can’t compare a BMW with an Aston Martin…different thing completely…different status. The Aston has way more style, heritage and loveliness than the BMW for sure.
But would I rather have the Aston over a G82? Nope - and I’m lucky enough to have that choice.
Every time I get in my M4 I just think, ‘why would I want more than this?’
Anyway, at my age, one thing I’ve learnt is that nobody cares what I think🤣

Have driven this car and it was a “bombastic” kind of car, which might be a bit too hardcore for a GT/daily driver. The interior is an enormous step up from the last car, as is the performance envelope. £165k base price with steel brakes is also very punchy in my opinion. The competition (Ferrari Roma and 992 Turbo) have manufacturer developed and produced engines, whilst the Vantage has an admittedly impressive third party sourced power unit. I really liked the car, but if Aston Martin want to sell them, I think the price point is £20k/£25k too high - pitched against a well specced hybrid 992 GTS, I’d be very tempted to take the Aston.

Always a pleasure to watch your videos Harry. Noting as I view…
    Manual hatch back closure? Seriously?!
Why are we apparently obsessed with carbon fibre? Expensive to buy, expensive to repair. Surely a sportscar can be great without weave?
That centre console is chunky isn’t it? Yes, more buttons are welcome. But the screen, which should be delicate, looks lumpen.
The new Porsche GT3’s ‘Assist’ button looks ever more inspired…
Frameless rear view mirror looks good. Plastic shroud behind it less so.
Aston is a GT brand to my mind. There should surely be a GT bent to this car. Not everybody wants a firmly-sprung track aspirant.
600 horses and £161k? RIP the entry Aston…
But since I’m not in the market, AM can ignore all of the above. 🤪

Tops of side windows also lower than my 992. Very wide arse. Dealer not yet called me back to arrange a test drive nor to give me details of the V600 they had on concession sale. But he was hinting, without being prompted, that they’d accept offers on in stock cars (of which there were 6). No wonder they’re losing over £1m/day!

And I realise more and more that my commuter-bubble 2019 Zoe is the newest car I will ever own; I really, really, really hate those "driver-asist" electronic nannies and even worse if you need to switch the damn things off EVERY time you drive your car - in my Zoe, they at least stay off when i choose that option. Eventually turning off the technology with be turning off your insurance policy.
I expect insurance companies will try and get out of paying out if it's obvious assistance systems were deactivated.

Great video as always! - I have a modern car where I have to turn off all the "Nanny Tech" on a screen (Unfortunately not an Aston - not yet anyway!) Sometimes I forget before pulling away, so do it on the move. I wonder in the future how many accidents the Nanny tech will cause by people distracted by their touch screens trying to turn it off while driving! ie it is bound to cause some accidents!

Took the previous Vantage (21MY) out and couldn't unhear the fake engine noise being piped into the cabin. The other car I have been looking at BMW 8series coupe is the same. A real shame that the OPF's have sterilised sound and forced manufacturers to go down the fake noise route.

Harry…a very fine car but I think it would get very wearing after a few weeks..hard work all of the time. It looks good but just too much of a bully to ever enjoy for long. After a month, you would be delighted to drive to the shops in a Puma…it would be a real rest! 😬. I’ll take the Roma…still engaging but it doesn’t punch you all the time.😬😬😬😃😃😃😃
