This was how we lived in rural Jamaica in my early years. They can collect rain water from the roof by putting up a gutter, and using a container to catch the water from the gutter. And, to make the bathroom experience more comfortable, they could build an elevated box with a cover as a seat in the latrine. You can make your outdoor latrine beautiful and neat by building it like a small house and putting some tile or natural stone on the floor. Whatever you are building, make it beautiful. When I move to Africa, I definitely want an outdoor kitchen and latrine as back up.

I'm sure they will get there with the beautifying astethics. Actually, in terms of the toilet, squating while emptying the bowels is healthier than sitting on a toilet bowel. It's cancer preventive, because it the position helps empty everything. If one has physical challenges, then ok make another for them.

What I love about these videos is that theirs always a sense of peacefulness and a youthful look to the American that has transitioned to Africa. No police, no Karen popping up like a badger mole minding others business or the look of stress while trying to Keep up with the Joneses. Just living naturally and authentic. All black people in the West deserve this piece of mind. Living like a Human and not a color.

@@webelonginafrica44 if you really look at it, most of Ghana 🇬🇭 and Africans as a whole on the continent are already living a off grid lifestyle. Even in the urban areas you will find clothes lines, charcoal cooking 🥘, latrines outside and if it’s any unoccupied forest there you will find gardens all in them. Africa definitely makes you extremely tough and resilient to any circumstance in life. When I first went to Ghana 🇬🇭 I was there only a month and dropped 10 pounds from sweating, more walking and less food consumption. Now I can understand why most Africans run circles around black Americans in business sometimes because if you can be successful in some of the conditions on the continent, you will be successful anywhere.

I agree "Africa isn't for the weak hearted. This is where you separate the boys from the men & girls from the women." I loved it when I went there in the late 80s. My family has gone back & forth to Africa since the 70s.
It's a special place. I felt so much peace. No matter what cultural differences there were to America, I found cultural familiarlarities with visiting down rural south in the States among black people. I found some similar smells & sounds as when I visited Loiza Puerto Rico where the descendants of the enslaved Africans lived. However, I just knew in my heart, soul, & bones, I was home; I tingled all over.

Thats leaf of life in Jamaica, i remember having fever, i pick a leaf and chew on it. And i started feeling better, just eat it raw. But my mom use to beat a few leaves in a pice of white cotton cloth and ring out the juice, add some honey and that was cold medicine.
Thats a medicine whuch could be commercialised for selling abroad or to those who don't have access in the city.

That's a very deep pit latrine. If you use bio materials to degrade the "stuff", it will take a lifetime to fill it up. Also use a pipe to help remove the smell. Google modern pit latrines to see how to do it.
