Thankfully the problem really only comes into play if you're doing tournament play. If you're playing with friends, it's easy enough to agree that taking imperial Guard units and adding them to a list would be able to function for them. Or, if you have extra weapons available from Tau kits (like the carbines for the breacher squads or rifles for the fire warriors) you could homebrew an imperial guard unit with Tau weaponry.

Curious what you came up with as I thought much the same - in fact Ashes of Faith is basically designed with the idea of bringing in other imperial forces as part of your retinue. I thought it'd be cool to have "Ordo" detachments that allow you to bring a percentage of aligned specialist forces in - so for the main ones Ordo Hereticus could include Adepta Sororitas, the Ordo Xenos could include Deathwatch, and Ordo Malleus could bring in Grey Knights.
@@sonicwingnut I ended up with something very similar to what you described above! I consider it a bit uncouth to self-promote in the comments of another creator's video 😅but since you're asking over on my channel I have a video explanation and free PDF of my Ordo-focused detachment rules!
I thought the same, the base idea was have around 500 pts of allies at a 2k army from any imperial force, but depending on your Ordo, you could pick 250 points more of Sob, Deathwatch or GK, for example, with, of course, stratagems, rules and enhancements based and focused completely on the predilect enemy (3 classic plus Minoris)
we eldar have really been left behind. i started playing last year and thankfully my favourite aspect warriors look pretty good and have a plastic kit, along with their phoenix lord (howling banshees & jain zar) i just got 5 warp spiders and the difference between them and the rest of my army makes them feel like they don't fit in at all
Witch Hunters wasn't a 4th edition codex, it released the same year as Daemonhunters. Alien Hunters *did* release, as Deathwatch. Just like Witch Hunters specialized to be the Sisters of Battle codex, and Daemonhunters specialized to become the Grey Knights, the Deathwatch is the militant part of the Ordos Xenos, and you can consider their codex to be the update to the Alien Hunters codex (which was cancelled because they didn't know how to make such small kill teams work at 40k's scale. Then they just said "screw it" and did it despite the issues.) Also, you can't say something came out in the early thousands, 1000 was a year that happened, and that's not when the IG tanks came out, no matter how old you feel they look.
To pick up on a very minute point in the entire video. I’d much prefer if they’d make an entirely new rhino/predator/vindicator for chaos. One that can have entire exhaust stacks swapped to make them look like something with scavenged repairs or entire sections swapped to be more warp touched for example. The entire rhino chassis also needs to have its scale crept up to match the creep seen by infantry squads. An upgrade kit for the Deimos variants would just lead to a laughably small tank with superficial upgrades being placed next to fairly chunky chaos legionaries/plague marines/khorne berzerkers. I say this as someone that has converted a Deimos rhino and is currently wrestling with converting an old chaos predator to be more Death Guardy.
A major lore point for the Imperium of Man is that their old tech worked so well the first time around (the 31st Millennium) that they consider it techno-heresy if people so much as suggest upgrading their aging tanks and weapons, so the idea of GW still not updating the Imperial tanks is both tragic and hilarious
For the price is a joke,a super clunky kit with shapes of a chinese dollar toy, cool 30 years ago, now for the price you can get a 12 inches Gundam with 30 PoA and inner frame
I think you nailed this list. I am getting a bit long in the tooth myself, having started 40k back in 3rd edition, with the eldar. I got out of the game, got back into it and would have embraced space elves again, but I did not want to paint all the same models over again. Back then, a full Harlequin force was a pipe dream, so given the opportunity, I picked a small force for them and also dove into the Dark Angels, building out at first a Deathwing force. Now that the Lion has returned, I've picked him up and some primaris models. Because loyalty is its own reward.
To be honest I really like that there are still some of the older models around. Why change the Leman Russ? Why change the Death Cult Assassin? They are classics and appeal to me mich more than most of those newer models.
Thing is, I know most models are outdated but I love my firstborn and I’m sticking to firstborn models so I really really want to be able to continue just collecting firstborn because I really don’t like the Primaris models one bit
Some Skaven units such as Warlock Engineer, Gutter/Night Runners, Ratling Gun, Warpfire Thrower, Plague Censer Bearers, Warplock Jezzails, Warp-Grinder, Skryre Acolyte, Plague Priest, Master Moulder. Nurgle unit such as Festus and Epidemius. Centigors, Doombull, Razorgors, and Tuskgor Chariot for the Beasts of Chaos. Those are the only AoS models that I could think of.
I'm actually working on kit bashing a Grey Knights army from the Combat Patrol and Boarding Patrol plus the Space Marine half of the Leviathan box and some extras. so far they look awesome at Primaris scale. 😁
About orks... As cool as the new boyz are, I just don't care TOO much for monopose models... Yes they are GORGEOUS to look at, but by GW removing multipose models as a whole the models start seeming a bit samey if you have enough... And I imagine it would be especially noticable with horde factions like orks and nids. (Perhaps I am incorrect, but that is just a personal reason that I would wish for GW to make multi-part kits like they used to, and why my old multi-part orks are my favorite!(Plus, cant go wrong with such affordable orks too, even if the sculpt IS showing its age...))
We actually mentioned that dissapointment but it didn't make the cut, we agree! Clip together kit is doubly dissapointimg when they look so much better than the available multipart
@TabletopTime I guess I just am sad to see all these old models go when there still feels like their good enough to be used... I am so sad I missed my opportunity to get firstborn dreadnoughts... :'( And I worry that soon, if enough people get on GW's case, no matter how much they deserve it, they will kill some of the OTHER good models that still have some life in them, even if they COULD use a rework... Like firstborn marines. Man those helmets are irreplaceable to me...
10:42 That Falcon does still look astonishingly good though. It was the thing that got me into Eldar when I was 12, back in 2001. The one I got back then is still in my collection and still being played with. That model, and to a lesser extent the Vyper, may just be the only 2 kits that, quite frankly, may never need an upgrade.
Tanks for making me feel super old :( :P I started this hobby at 8 year's old when my uncle introduced me to it started collecting at 11 i was born in 1981. I love your content but damn i feel like i need to move into a nursing home now.
Wow, great job everyone! Firstly, anything in Citadel finecast needs a plastic kit, Finecast is terrible. Orks: I detest how every old Ork model's legs make them look like they're about to poop. There are alternative legs that can be found from some sites that fix this issue. Tau: What would be nice is if we got a Tau armor upgrade kit that we could apply to different models. Adding some pieces of Tau armor and weapons to some guardsman or AOS Saurus warriors, etc I think would be awesome.
My Warp Spiders are all metal, bought in blister packs way back in 1996 when I first got into 40k. They still look good, but that may be due to my painting skills. There are 3rd party WS sculpts out there that look really good, worthy of adding to an Eldar army. I won't, because, you know, my whole army is so old the alternate sculpts would stick out like a sore thumb.
I’m a Grey Knights player and I do still love their current range and think they look great. Yes I’d like truescale GK but they shouldn’t be primaris and they should still have the same proportions. basically Cawl is not good enough to make primaris GK and you can’t upgrade perfection. Speaking of which it should be added to the lore that primaris are far more susceptible to falling to chaos
To be fair Inquisitorial Agents have had a ton of love recently, and while I suspect this video was made before the announcement the Agents Kill Team has a full release now. But we also had the Elucidian Starstriders w. Voidsmen, Adeptus Arbites, Breachers, and a whole index for Imperial Agents in the new edition. Oh and a new Inquisitor model in the form of Erasmus Cartavolnus, although he doesn't have specific rules for 10th so admittedly GW seem to have forgotten in record time that he exists. And admittedly putting Hector Rex in legends was a dick move.
I can see a lot of these models being introduced slowly through kill team, especially the aspect warriors. Another rumor for the box after that is swooping hawks and vespid. Not sure if it'll end up being true but I would love to see it.
On the subject of T'au orks, I believe it's official lore that the T'au TRIED to talk to them, but were so unsuccessful that they now have a "kill on sight" order on orks. Same as with Tyranids
11:38 youre forgetting something crucial, these models come unbuilt and unpainted, and the skill of the person painting it can either make or break a model's look, the difference in levels of detail in the paintjobs the people who painted the dorn and russ you showed are pretty clear to see, the russ is painted flatly, with only minimal highlighting and weathering, whereas the dorn model shown is painted and adorned with far more decals, a much more vibrant and highlighted paintjob with alot more focus on the smaller details, the bits and bobs that give it more personality its weathered, you can see dust around the bottom of the tracks on the hull, faint rust washing on the outer portions of the track pads, lighting and shading on the lenses of the sights, the dorn model is a showcase model with a showcase paintjob, whereas the russ is a model someone built and painted to play the game with, probably along side quite a few others much like it, the detail level put into painting and building these two models are as far apart as night and day, yet with some creative kitbashing, one could easily make a russ outshine a dorn just on the build alone, then add a great paintjob that makes all its details pop just right, and the russ starts to look less dated and more like a foundation upon which one can build an astonishing piece of work. The russ isn't dated, its tried and true, it works as its intended to, the A10 warthog is older than me, its still the go to plane for tank busting even tho they've tried and failed to replace it several times.
So I like the list. It's pretty accurate. Eldar being one of my two mains, I can't disagree with the Aspect Warriors desperately needing an update. Kitbashing your own will only take you so far (though I am very proud of my DIY Fire Dragons, if I do say so myself). I don't see the need for vehicle remakes, as much as I just wish they provided more kit options for them, at least where the Eldar are concerned. The Falcon being from '97 isn't as much of a problem as it's lack of properly representing weapon options, though I'll admit that I do very much like the visual re-do of the Fireprism - so maybe I can be brought on board for it.
Aspect warriors. Yes. I have all those old Aspect warriors as my main cohort in my Eldar Warhost. However, I also have even older Eldar models - Guardians holding heavy weapons! Not grav platforms, shoulder mounted missile launcher, hefting a lascannon. Models from Rogue Trader times! Think I might do a video on them...
Just for fun, here's an example from the AoS side: Skryre Acolytes. When you initially look at them, one might think "Oh neat, Skryre-themed foot troops. 70 points for 5 models, it's not Clanrat-levels of horde but they're cheap! Now I can make even more of my army be my favorite clan!" Think again. A Skryre Acolyte is 15.75€. Yes, you heard that right: a *single* Acolyte. It's one metal model in a blister pack, you don't even get the full kit, just one variation of the sculpt. You're paying ~78€ for 70 points, and the models aren't even resin, let alone plastic.
The Mordians: an Imperial Guard regiment so forgotten its doesn't even get mentioned in the "forgotten IG regiments" slot. Pour one out for the legion of immaculately pressed dress uniforms.
I like my tanks, but they could definitely add accessory sprues to enable them to be more characterful. Unearthed my Tallarn the other night. Had a great time.
I think the kroot could be the imperiums assassins but for the xenos armies. The kroot would be their own “army” like the assassin and any (or at least a majority of) xenos could take them as auxiliaries.
Ngl I'm Biased AF so my entire Top 10 Abandoned Models would've been old Castraferrum Dreadnought Models like the Metal Venerable Dreadnought&Chaos Dreadnoughts and the ForgeWorld Castraferrum Dreadnoughts. Though it would've been a "top 10 favorite Abandoned Models" List rather than a "Top 10 most Abandoned/Forgotten Models" List
#10 Chaos bikers. I miss the old chaos vehicle upgrade spru's. Slap a load of spikes on some of the newer space marine bikes and you'd have yourself fun new chaos bikers. I've been thinking about pulling out my old Doomrider for a while now.
It's amazing how unpleasant Wave Serpents are to build, compared to modern kits. I still think it's a great looking transport, but I had to break out my woodworking clamps to get mine to go together, and stay that way while the glue dried.
I wish Games workshop offered "oldhammer" models and latest models. Rhinos are pretty much dead in 40k, but yet its such a iconic model that everyone knows of. Like surely at this point it doesnt cost much for GW to make, seeing all the models and molds are still there. Tamiya does this they even do updated older models with photo etching and updated parts etc.
I'd say one of my picks would be chaos space marine legions. The chaos marine model line is really great, but quite a few of the minis feel like they're designed to be specifically Black Legion, what with all the eyes of horus built into parts of the armor. While there are some models from forgeworld or the heresy line, proper GW plastic 40k traitor legions don't really have anything, not even upgrade sprues like space marine chapters have.
Hot take: GW could make a new bike kit that incorporates optional parts to switch out for either Ravenwing bikers, or a new White Scars unit. Please, GW, please make that happen. It would be so cool.
I have left and come back to the hobby twice now. I have loved the Eldar all along. It has been really disappointing that the models I got way back at the start of things when I was 11 or so are still the most up to date. It is crazy they have not done something now. I know one argument is they don't sell. Well of course not! If the range hasn't been updated in that long a time people either have the models, or don't want such old ones.
As a WH 40K collector and player, since the 1990's, I bet I could add to this list. 10 agree, have them. 9 missed them. 8 never got into Grey Knights. 7 Orks definately agree, funny I have the much older Stormboyz and Boyz skinny arms, older than the ones you showed. 6 Tau don't care, the Krutt are cool. 5 What about those of us with Blood Axe armies? 4 Definately overdue. 3 agree, where are the new Ork Tanks? 3 more Space Marines? Meh, more new Orks! 2 and 1 Eldar agree, and what is it with the silly name change and fate dice?
I remember warp spiders from second edition. One of the most unfair things I've ever experienced in a game. I hate Eldar to this day because of how unfair they were back then.
The worst recent tease was the new Autarch; he/she comes with a crisp, highly detailed Warp Spider Jump Pack. Then one of the recent lore books had the audacity to tease a potential Warp Spider Phoenix Lord. On an aside, they should also just go ahead and make plastic Shadow Spectres. Derpy lore aside, they're honestly my favorite Aspects design-wise.
im with you on everything except that Falcon baybee dont fix what aint broke, timeless (and maybe the Baneblade but i'd mark out over a new Baneblade so i'll give you that)
A new kit update doesn't mean a complete redesign. But some higher resolution detail and a better build, maybe more gubbins would be great. Falcon admitantly holds up the best, then the tau
As a certified Grey Knights battle brother, I hope GW never touch my 5'11" short kings I much vastly prefer the balljointed waists, unified poses, and modular designs of my silver sons than the very dynamic, but very specific poses of the Primaris Space Marines Yeah, the new Primaris ones look cooler, but that novelty wears off when you spot four guys with the exact same running technique across the battlefield It's even worse with the Chaos Space Marines, where each pair of legs also only matches a specific chestplate, so all the guys doing the cool dynamic leap over a small rock all have the same armour, the same spiky shinguards, the same chestplate, and the same loincloth, but with different heads and shoulders glued on Yes, all the current Grey Knights have the same leg pose, but the pose is generic enough that you can easily smash 20+ marines together on the tabletop and it doesn't look wierd
Orks are considered to be one of the only species unsuitable for integration into the T'au Empire, in the lore. But the ethereals DID try to negotiate with them twice. It didn't go well.
I think an issue here is that the old metal moulds were so much cheaper to make. A new injection mould tool can cost £10K plus. Ensuring the machining is correct for the models, but also the cooling for that mould is correct and works correctly. So they will always keep these to an few as they possibly can. I say this working at a company that sells the simulation tools for plastic injection moulding. It is one of the most expensive products on our lists. I don't this we will ever see all the regiments coming back. What would be good is if they could add that to ForgeWorld, which doesn't use the same injection moulding technology. At least I think they don't.
Drukhari are so forgotten that people may not even realize you literally cannot buy half the faction on gw's store because the missing models were all finecast that occasionally come out of the Disney vault
I'd like to see more then two Guard regiments. i'd love Elysians or Harakoni....or as a deep cut: Vitrians. Edit: though i guess Harakoni can be done with Cadians and grav chutes i always figured they had slightly different armor then Cadian gear.
I kinda feel like the Legion of the Damned deserve a special mention. They're such a cool bit of lore.
That and I'm just kind of a little bitter that I got into 40k shortly after GW stopped selling LotD minis.
I can only imagine how badass new swooping hawks and warp spiders could be
They also should update fuegan and the fire dragons because trying to find fuegan online is absolute hell, plus he’s metal

I really really like painting the old metal models though :-) they are nice and fun!
I'm actually working on kit bashing a Grey Knights army from the Combat Patrol and Boarding Patrol plus the Space Marine half of the Leviathan box and some extras. so far they look awesome at Primaris scale. 😁
Cool video. I can't say that I'd change anything you selected, or the sequence. You pretty much nailed it.
And I worry that soon, if enough people get on GW's case, no matter how much they deserve it, they will kill some of the OTHER good models that still have some life in them, even if they COULD use a rework... Like firstborn marines.
Man those helmets are irreplaceable to me...
Bring back different colored Orks
Okay props to whoever made the sections of these videos into fast & furious title patterning
I would like to express my appreciation for the very punny chapter markers, shoutout to the editor/team behind that :D
The camera angles off to the sides make me feel like I’m creeping into the TTT studio and secretly watching you guys make a video.
That Ad announcer!!! Yes!!! What a great spoof!
Tanks for making me feel super old :( :P I started this hobby at 8 year's old when my uncle introduced me to it started collecting at 11 i was born in 1981. I love your content but damn i feel like i need to move into a nursing home now.
Same though I'm 3 years younger I'm old enough to remember still seeing the Dark Future novels still in stores but no sign of the game itself.
I'm old enough I still insider Warp Spiders as the "new guys".
The falcon is a beautiful model, just because it's old doesn't mean it needs to change.
Speaking of which it should be added to the lore that primaris are far more susceptible to falling to chaos
thank you guys nice to know these sick old models! made my day
To be fair Inquisitorial Agents have had a ton of love recently, and while I suspect this video was made before the announcement the Agents Kill Team has a full release now.
Too bad Erasmus was a limited edition model. The fact there's no permanent male plastic Inquisitor in 2023 is just bizarre.
I hope we do get a Grey Knights range update soon.
It's too early in the morning to think about 1994 being 30 years ago. Thanks Dave
I bought and painted that warpsider in 1994, it's the same sculpt today
Great video. Thank you. Always a fun watch. :)
Thanks for the Video ❤ As a Aeldari Player, I took models from third parties...
Just for fun, here's an example from the AoS side:
Skryre Acolytes.
I think nobz and stormboyz are great looking kits
If you didn't know, the Primaris line was what GW originally wanted the space marines to be sized as.
Reminds me how much old unpainted white metal I have.
Including a box of Warp spiders.
You can buy most if not all Kill Team box teams separately as of 'in a couple weeks'
I feel like they are also forgetting about white scars, they have all these unique things that games workshop is just leaving.
The fast and furious naming scheme was clever.
@0:01 yaaaaahhh, we need more pirate sounds in your vids mate
It makes sense that chaos tanks and riders stay old as they are old marines , so idk about updating them .
Leman Russ, Chimera and Hellhound got new models in the late 00's, their older models were from early 90's I think...
Was not expecting Chills to turn up 🤣
The Eldar falcon grav tank is timeless. I think it looks great as is!
Dat Chills impersonation doe
Combat Arena has all the Blackstone expansion heroes too, and is therefore ridiculous in cost on eBay.
I remember warp spiders from second edition. One of the most unfair things I've ever experienced in a game. I hate Eldar to this day because of how unfair they were back then.
I want more non-tau Tau. Orc in Tau armor, human tau-gardist, tau space elf? So much to use, so many possibilities...
Orks lol unlikely
@@murphy7801 Lorewise maybe, but I just want to see some "For Gorka good!" models...
As a chaos player I can't wait to get new bikes. Maybe we'll get them with our codex drop?
I'm going to cry if the Chinork Warkopta isn't on this list
im with you on everything except that Falcon baybee dont fix what aint broke, timeless (and maybe the Baneblade but i'd mark out over a new Baneblade so i'll give you that)
A new kit update doesn't mean a complete redesign. But some higher resolution detail and a better build, maybe more gubbins would be great. Falcon admitantly holds up the best, then the tau
thank you so much More Plastic Aspect Warriors Please!
Best abandoned lines?
Oddboys.
Bretonia.
Chaos Dwarves.
Skaven.
Zoats.
And so on.
As a certified Grey Knights battle brother, I hope GW never touch my 5'11" short kings
I much vastly prefer the balljointed waists, unified poses, and modular designs of my silver sons than the very dynamic, but very specific poses of the Primaris Space Marines
Yeah, the new Primaris ones look cooler, but that novelty wears off when you spot four guys with the exact same running technique across the battlefield
It's even worse with the Chaos Space Marines, where each pair of legs also only matches a specific chestplate, so all the guys doing the cool dynamic leap over a small rock all have the same armour, the same spiky shinguards, the same chestplate, and the same loincloth, but with different heads and shoulders glued on
Yes, all the current Grey Knights have the same leg pose, but the pose is generic enough that you can easily smash 20+ marines together on the tabletop and it doesn't look wierd
The native advertising here is flawless
I proxied my deathcult assassins, I used the Sororitas Killteam box for it.
Great video. Do more top 10, please
