    Excellent video thanks. One word of significant caution is the complete removal of the grease fitting. Couple turns out is ok. If you take one out on a large steel tracked machine the same way it can eject clean through whatever is in the line of fire. Good habits keep you at the supper table each night.

    Useful, but I’d advise referring to the owners manual. Mine says 1/2” gap. Not 3 fingers.

    • @RENT1
      @RENT1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Completely agreed - best practice is to always consult the owner's manual when doing work on your equipment. Keith is a pro and has been doing this work for years, so we cut him a break this time ;).

    One thing you missed is when you check track tension you reverse the machine first to put all slack on the bottom and its different on most machines my gehl is about an inch.

    Nice video, however -- Usually when the track comes off it's on the side of a hill, not on a nice level surface. And you got some attachment on it, not a bucket. Really would like to see field re-mounting a track.

    • @RENT1
      @RENT1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Great suggestion. We asked our partners at TekamoHD Heavy Equipment Services if they could film a track replacement video while replicating outdoor conditions. It was just published today! Take a look: th-cam.com/video/jmmAnPF_3SY/w-d-xo.html
      While still on a level surface (for everyone's safety) Keith goes into more detail about potential problems and hiccups along the process, as well as best practices for cold track installation.

    This does not apply to larger Takeuchi or Gehl machines. Tracks are way to heavy to manage the way shown with the Deere. Also tension is set much tighter on the gehl/Takeuchi. Always refer to your owners manual for proper tensioning or learn an expensive lesson on premature track failure. Great video just be advised if you own a different machine

    How do you measure track tension if you don't have massive Dutch mits??

    • @fasfgasdfagadsf
      @fasfgasdfagadsf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The manual behind the seat will tell you what the measurement is... like bobcat says 1/2 inch off the bottom of the center 2 rollers.
      Caterpillar says 2 inches... but because operators dont check in the field, i make it a tight 2 inches, meaning it is only 2 inches if you push down on it.
      New tracks i take to 1 inch because stretch factor.

    Sure it works. Ever had hydraulic failure? It does happen. Hope all insurance is up to date. Just my opinion. Do it like you want. 3 minutes of time isn't worth the risk.

    This is how people get hurt. Do not rely on hydraulics to hold up a machine. Do not insert pry bars into track with when machine is propelling forward.

    The manual for that machine says to measure from the 2nd to the front roller, 1 - 1.5 inches. While the rear roller is on the ground and front roller 1 foot off. You measured with the whole track raised, and from center roller and much more than 1 inch. Please don't post things about that if all you go if is gut feeling.......
