I lived in London all my life and moved here 6 years ago and I don't know why all the negative comments about it not being a nice area. I love it compared to London and now being here for 6 years I would never go back. It's so peaceful, the first thing I noticed were how clean the streets are, no litter anywhere! The next thing was how friendly the people are, everyone talks to you not like down South! I have lovely views where I live and only five minutes from Town Center, the night life here was excellent before the Covid restrictions. I love the slower pace of life and tranquillity this place brings and five minutes in the car and your in the Pennines! Great Place thank you for posting!
I live 30 miles from Trafalger Square.I look out my house window overlooking a farm with horses ,geese,and cows.I am 45 mins drive to Channel tunnel complex and can be in France 2 hours from driving from home.I am also 2o mins from international rail stn ,get on train 75 mins later get off in Paris.Trucked all over the country for 33 years. Aint no where like London.Also 15 mins drive from the biggest indoor shopping complex in Europe.
@Ellis The DJ Smashed bus stops, litter on nearly every street, drug addicts roaming town falling over, stabbings and violent crime, insurance prices higher which is indicative of car related crime, I’ve had my car broken into 3 times since living here, dogs being stolen constantly.. do I need to go on and on? There is nice places around but for the whole it’s on the rough side, not as bad as Rotherham or Luton but that’s no achievement
Lived in Barnsley all my life, the best thing about it is you can drive for 10 minutes in any given direction an be surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Locals are very genuine and straight talking, may seem slightly standoffish to those unfamiliar. The town has suffered from lots of urban blight in the last 25 years. Lots of historical places to visit in the surrounding area.

Great place...I visited barnsley in 2000 to 2006 used to stay at the BLACKBULL PUB IN STAIRFOOT now demolished I been told.. x town was friendly huge nightlife loved the place I stuck out like a sore thumb as I was from down sarrrf ;) and my accent u couldn't get away from the locals.chattinh. lol they very friendly and welcoming x barnsley best place feel proud of your town.. I consider it my honary home

I moved from Huddersfield to Barnsley five years ago and think it is a nice, friendly town. The town centre is compact and not so spread out as Huddersfield. There have been big improvements since this video was uploaded. The only downside I can think of is Barnsley has a litter problem but then again I think that is a South Yorkshire problem in general.
I lived just outside Barnsley for 30 odd years before I moved to Cleveleys, just outside Blackpool. It’s hardly changed at all, looks very clean and tidy and attractive. Great tour, I’ll watch your Sheffield one next!
We moved from Barnsley to Gloucestershire Cotswolds 22 years ago. Nice down here but nice to get back to Barnsley now and again. Cracking night out late 70s early 80s..

I've been to Barnsley a few times and absolutely love it, I really like the market and the bus station, and foumd the people really friendly, I hope to visit again soon
to be fair every town and city in the country will have places that are slightly run down but there are places in barnsley such as cannon hall thats on chanel 5 on the farm which is beautuful and surrounding areas
Pinocchio is a fantastic restaurant to go to recommend it when it reopens I love being from Barnsley we have the inventor of the hydrocalic press also my great-grandfather worked at the royal hotel when it was in business
I noticed that you said that coal mining was a major industry in Barnsley, which is correct but so is glassworks, that's why Barnsley's crest is a miner and a glass blower. I love my home town and look forward to seeing how it looks when the refurbishment is complete.

I wonder if Casa Disco record shoppe is still there? Still playing their 99p singles bargains i nabbed mid 90’s to this day! It is a very well stocked and diverse town centre with s healthy mixture of new and old architecture. We lived on Huddersfield Road where it forked to lead down to Honeywell Barnsley College building.
there's been a lot of changes in 'tarn' since my youth! but it's looking better now they've got rid of all the concrete council/market buildings. i've always thought the town centre was short on 'classic' architecture, but the town hall and surroundings is still something to admire.
I left Barnsley in June 1962 to go to Australia .I got married in 1965 in Australia and in 1980 brought my Wife and 2 young children to see me Mam and Dad who live in a New House ( to me ,the old one was knocked down ) at side of the Bush Inn ijn Kingstone . It was a huge surprise to see the changes . We've been back a few times the last being 2005 .Seeing this video I'm having trouble getting my bearings .They tell my old School ,Barnsley Grammar School is now a Car Park . As the late Roby Williams said ," Nostalgia ain't what it used to be ".

I might go for a wander now it's getting warmer, maybe go up to Locke park too. Where the glassworks and JD sport is (around 2 min 30) was a building site when I last went, lol.

Where was the 13th century tithe barn located? The one that the city council in its infinite wisdom had torn down in the 1960s because it had no use for it. Considering it was an historical building.?

If I'm honest I don't like Barnsley town centre however there are really nice places (like dearne Valley country park and locke park) there too and its not as bad as some make it out to be. Step a bit out of Barnsley and you're at places like Yorkshire sculpture park and Ladybower Reservoir too

i was born in Barnsley and love my home town so much .Some locals would disagree with me fine that's your view. But I loved the old market place and why is the council killing off the old town . Too new glass works looks well crap bring back little woods holfields WOOLWORTHS and what happen to them, one day German market. And call that a bus station well . Bring back Yorkshire traction busses whistle the bus out . And cudworth bridges removed. why looks a message now . and the fire station in monk betton but named cudworth fire sration it's in Klondike area OF MONK Betton via prontyfact road. So the correct name is Klondike fire station . A lot better and next time don't start filming from top part of town . prood to be a Barnsley lad. Barnsley for ever.

i was born in Barnsley and love my home town so much .Some locals would disagree with me fine that's your view. But I loved the old market place and why is the council killing off the old town . Too new glass works looks well crap bring back little woods holfields WOOLWORTHS and what happen to them, one day German market. And call that a bus station well . Bring back Yorkshire traction busses whistle the bus out . And cudworth bridges removed. why looks a message now . and the fire station in monk betton but named cudworth fire sration it's in Klondike area OF MONK Betton via prontyfact road. So the correct name is Klondike fire station . A lot better and next time don't start filming from top part of town . prood to be a Barnsley lad. Barnsley for ever.
