I have never heard Gabe Newell talk before. His voice is exactly as I imagined.
i play xbox, PC, playstation, and nintendo. and out of all of them, i LOVE having steam on PC. gabe is amazing, he puts such amazing games on huge sales and he overwhelms us with games, even though we spend way more than we want, admit it. all of us PC gamers still love him after the steam summer sale.
Even if you kidnapped and tortured Gabe Newell you still couldn't make him talk about HL3

I love when the M.C says "there will be a lot of things coming from Valve that will be of great interest to us"...my mind just drifts from 2013 through the last 5 years of Dota 2, C.S skins, T.F hats and now Artifact. Hopefully they release a full HL:VR game one of these days and not just more Moondust VR like stuff.

I just watched the first 3 minutes (or well... 2-3) but Ive seen a few other videos featuring him and he don't really talk very progressively, it just feels like he talks to talk, not to try informing people about something that he thinks is important others know

Valve is a very good developer, they actually give a shit to the players by giving them steam workshop so that the players who could really make great items can get their stuff in-game and they get money for their efforts too! Yay go valve!

I want to see a SteamOS handheald akin to the PSVita which is able to play games both locally or streaming from your PC if you want higher graphics. Supporting TeamSpeak and having a slide-out keyboard and the same control system from the Steam controller but with a full 1080p touchscreen that is the screen. That would be awesome.

I don't know why you game commenters have to pick apart everything before you even see it and make assumptions based on the littlest details without seeing how all the variables play together. I thought about the same exact things he was talking about when it comes to games and game worlds and DLC and online currency interacting with it's own microcosmic version of the macro economy with an imbalance of trade and regulatory systems.... while I was playing Grand Theft Auto V on 2 and 1/2 hits of LSD!

As a console user, I am looking forward to PC Gaming in the Living Room. It's about the versatility, I can't browse the internet from a console, I can't chat as well and there is definetly a lack of peripherals for the boxes.

***** I'll admit its a poor example but I chose it because as far as I know, its the biggest game collaboration of the sort to this point. The concept has worked on a much smaller scale with Journey, which should have been the example I used in the first place. ;)

If free to play got Valve's games 10x more users and 3x more revenue, then it's easy to see why so many companies are beginning to go the same route.
Only problem is they miss the subtleties, being tempted to make pay to win markets instead of attractive ascetic options that most of the valve stuff goes for, with perhaps the exception of TF2 weapons, that said good god the crafting in that game is bonkers.
Vladimir Lastraud Some companies like making money the easy way, such as Firefly Studios. I play their game, Stronghold Kingdoms, and i know several rich bastards who spend thousands every month so they can roll over everyone. Luckily I don't have to spend anything cause i befriend these rich bastards ;)

LOL! Gabe, you didn't think this through. Steambox and Steam OS is DOA.
1. There is no market for this product. The only market would be PC gamers, and they already have Steamboxes called Windows PCs, and most of them already have their PCs hooked up to their big screen TVs.
2. Steambox is going to be too expensive.
3. Steambox is nothing more than a PC, with all of the trappings of traditional PC gaming.
4. Steambox will run Linux, which nobody except Microsoft haters give a damn about. Not to mention a Steambox won't even play 95% of the games available on Steam.
5. Developers and publishers are not going to waste millions of dollars porting games to a platform that has 1% market share.
6. Casuals do not give a damn about Steam or PC gaming, and never will.
You can't solve all of these problems and you're destined to fail. All because you're scared to death of Microsoft putting a store in Windows.

Jack Ralph The Steambox hardware can run Windows games, but not out of the box. You would have to install Windows on it. But there are still plenty of great games for Linux, like TF2.
***** no the Linux system on the steam machine can run all games on steam without windows as they are making a emulator that plays all games on steam without need for windows which isn't finished yet.

No, Microsoft is just shit, and it abuses it's place in the market. Gabe isn't the only hater of that cancer, many free market libertarians even consider it one of the few legitimate targets to break up under monopoly laws. Microsoft holds back the industries and inhibits innovation and progress, it's a disease that needs to be purged, by Executive Order if necessary.
