  • Christopher Nolan interview on becoming a director. After TENET, director Christopher Nolan gave the first of many full interviews for Tom Shone in The Nolan Variations book, discussing TENET, his filmography, his origins and becoming a director. In this video essay, I discuss what Christopher Nolan said about becoming a director along with discussing his origins and approach to structure.
John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.” Armed with only one word-Tenet-and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time. Not time travel. Inversion.

Here's my analysis of the Christopher Nolan and Tom Shone interview in The Nolan Variations book. I cover the opening discussion between them on how Nolan developed his passion for directing at an early age. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more videos on The Nolan Variations every 2-3 weeks.

Dang, Christopher Nolan really does take things that happened in his life and applied it to film, like literally. Thank You for making this, I literally do they same things Nolan does and just stay up at night because my brain cells wont stop thinking about nonsense. Music is lit too by the way.

I'm very curious about this horror project he has pondered on making.

He's brought this up a few times in his career. He's talked at length about Inception being a horror, originally, as well. I'd LOVE to see a Chris Nolan horror film. His movies have elements of horror in them...I think it would be great!

It would most likely be a techno-thriller kind of horror, the one Michael Crichton would often do, rather than anything to do with supernatural.

if he’s gonna do a horror i don’t want him to kind of go back to something low budget and smaller in scale, Nolan’s the perfect person to give a horror on a big scale, something we’ve never really seen before. The universe is a big and scary place

The genius of Nolan is telling a story in a new & unique way. Half the audience won’t know wtf it was & forget it. The other half will discuss it & obsess over it for years 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I didnt even know this its like im related in blood with christopher nolan I do the same exact things that he does, I love structures, physical, mental, and unnatural. But I feel like a lot of people do these kind of things. I just love imagination and creation so there probably is no similarity, but its cool to see the orgins of one of the best imaginers ever. Thank you for making this video once again.

The universe is trying to tell me something.. I Recently watched the Theatrical version of blade runner turns out it's one of the films that inspired Nolan! This was incredible! definitely need to buy this book! I also relate to the construct of wanting to be apart of something and then realizing once being apart of it it's not what you thought it would be and you do anything humanly possible to leave. you could see with his first-ever short film doodlebug that he was already laying down the foundation for both Memento and Inception, I had no idea that doodlebug was an allegory for the power dynamic of age at his boarding school, I love the fact that only Nolan would know the answer to his short film, my interpretation was that it was a man in a severe state of overthinking, I truly love Nolan and how he is willing to push the envelope of cinema 80 percent of directors avoid high concept storytelling, but with Nolan, he embraces the challenge. after watching memento, Tenet, its Inspired 4 ideas for feature films I don't think I would have come up with these ideas had I of not watched his movies, can't wait for his next project I hope he does a psychological horror that would be mint, keep up the great content cortex, you bless our notification feeds 💯

I fuckimg love Nolan. He's a fucking genuis. And I really mean to use that word. The man lives and breathes his craft always pushing beyond the borders of what's possible in his industry. That's what hands down makes him a genuis and also I see a best director Oscar in his future. It might be his new oppenheimer movie. That genuis mindset he has in really Inspiring to me. I hope to have a genuis mindset in my field as well and to be known as simply the best or one of the best. To be amongst the best of the best.

Finding out what films you want to make and the stories you want to tell is like uncovering so much about yourself that you didn’t know, you would’ve developed some story ideas and it’s only when you look at the stories you already love and notice similarities between them and really focus on what appeals to you about story that you find out how you look at the world and what interests you the most, all your favourite films are a result of the directors psyche and a real insight into their mind and the way they look at the world, it’s so crazy, i love movies man

I think he should try to tackle a comedy. We know already that he is good at serious stuff, but I would personally love to see him trying to make people laugh

He's talked about this in interviews. When he was Knighted a reporter asked him and he said it's VERY unlikely...he finds it harder to make many people laugh than it is to scare them or amazr them. I understand...I write screenplays and coming up with good jokes everyone can laugh at is harder than a scene that makes people cry.
