    I actually prefer his collaborative work with Nolan rather than Hoyte Van Hoytema. Both are amazing but there's something magical about his work. Maybe that's why Nolan's older movies are better than the newer ones. I'd really wish for him to come back for more Hollywood movies.

    • @sauravallen

      Interstellar and Tenet are amazing imo. But yes Pfister is great.

    • @alexanderg1297
      @alexanderg1297 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I think Dunkirk is Hoyte and Nolans best collaboration together. They developed new techniques for filming in water and new mounts (possibly the same mounts used in Interstellar) to put on vehicles and yet audiences seemed to not care for Dunkirk. As for Wally I’d say 90% of his work with Nolan is fantastic.

    • @Digitalhunny
      @Digitalhunny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nolan's newest one was missing Hans Zimmer. Still can't bring myself to watch it. Terrified I'll hate it.😬😱

    • @sauravallen
      @sauravallen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Digitalhunny Yes. Tenet is a movie that divides opinion. But you should definitely give it a watch.

    • @sauravallen
      @sauravallen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SHAHZEB MIR I think Dunkirk and Interstellar had that effect because of a lot of sea shots and the overall color pallete of the shot having that green mixed in. For example, In interstellar, when Cooper is crying while watching the videos, in the background, the ship's interior which covers the majority of the shot is green. That green dominates the color pallete of the shot. The cornfields were green too.
      And in Dunkirk mostly all shots have the because of the sea.
      Tenet has more vibrant color grade in comparison imo.
      So I wouldnt judge Hoytema's ability based on 2 movies. I think he's done a fabulous job and I think the same of Pfister.

      I wish he would collab with Nolan again, there was just something about his shooting style and Nolan's stories that worked really well artistically. the way he shots the movies using natural lighting and natural color grading was awesome, it was a really fresh and unusual style in blockbuster films (especially in the time when every blockbuster started to copy Michael Bay's style color grading) sort of giving the movies a more indie raw feeling. shame that Nolan also fell into the common blockbuster format style cinematography (since Interstellar) now his movies also has that green-ish and orange color grading, and more steady wider shots. not that i hated it, but i just prefer Wally's style. it was like seeing a indie filmmaking technique in a blockbuster scene

    I was an assistant for Wally on a couple films in his pre-Nolan days, for Roger Corman (not Slumber Party). They were only my 2nd and 3rd films as a focus puller, but Wally made it challenging for sure. Even then I could see the organic quality of his lighting methods. All good experiences made memorable by his good nature and sense of humor. (Because they taste funny).

    One of the greatest thing Nolan has - he worked with at least 3 other cinematographers, but the value of Chris's films cinematic aspects are the same and perfect. Camera moves, like "hand held camera" from Vintherberg-Trier dogma style Nolan mainteins in his every films! By the way , please make one analysing vid for triers films :) .
    Acting style in Nolan's films are based on Chris's terms, as i see. Even in composing music is based on Nolans strong demands, as his favourite composer Shephard used to write.
    Nolans scripts are very poetic. So i have seen meny videos of this channel about Christopher and i think there are even more to speak about this great director.
    P.s you are doing priceless job !

    Wally Pfister did memorable films!
    The dark Knight was a technical marvel.
    I’m not so sure about is directorial debut...
    I still have tremendous respect for is work and sense of honesty mirroring his old school documentary style.
    Hoyte Van Hoytema cinematography is a bit of both realistic-naturalism he has a way more pronounced sense of aesthetic he embraces the pure visual artistic language with all its imperfections in DUNKIRK you clearly see vignetting since the use hasselblad medium format lenses in IMAX (were film travel horizontally in the film plan like in analog film photography) it feels like old film photography.
    In interstellar the shallow depth of field with anamorphic vintage lenses provides a nostalgic feel and it’s imperfect but so beautiful.
    In my opinion Hoyte Van Hoytema photography looks a lot like modern film photography.
    where Wally’s photography is more of a raw documentary style.
    I still struggle with the naturalistic vs realistic debate...but I love both!

      @@krishmav The subject isn't stupid, but the movie somewhat trivialized it, or over-simplified it. The subject is complicated with deep and far reaching implications. More Shallow Depth of field is way more difficult to do in the film industry. I'm in film school now and I'm learning about Depth of field right now and all about the camera angles. And using bigger lenses like 15/70mm is way more expensive but for the viewers its all really a great experience. Using bigger lenses though adds a much greater experience for the viewers once they see the movie. Also the lighting point of view for the movies you have to make sure its all set up the right way because if it's not then the scene won't look right.

      @@StudioBinder I see a lot of screenplay structure and you are talking about it. But when writing a story, tell me how to start it, what should be the steps regarding character, theme, outline, character arc, as well as what is the difference between writing many feature films and web series and its steps because there are so many story structures, I am confused. . When writing a dialogue, you have to write it keeping in mind the visual image as well as the plot of story ideas then outline and then how to go into the screenplay please tell me and I hope you think about this.
