Never even heard of net curtain wire until I came across your video. This is exactly what I need to hang my kitchen tier curtains as I don't want to install a rod. Thank you!!
The wire is better than the way my bedroom net curtain was hung. It was hung on a flat expandable rod which is made of thin soft metal with plastic cap things at each end. The hook was an inadequate tiny thin L shaped hook which barely held the rod. Well, the cat made short work of that. I did make the mistake of putting the hooks into the wall at either side which is too crumbly, so this time, the hooks are going into the wooden window frame, where it should have been in the first place 🙄
How do I cut the net curtain wire to the right length - the metal wiring inside the casing is resistant to my scissors and crafting knife - any tips welcomed
7mm is a great tip, thanks! About 25 years ago, I was told to buy net curtain 3.5 x the width of the window, at the appropriate length. That provides more privacy and looks elegant. Anything less than 3.5 x the width looks a tad poor.
Thank you for a clear demonstration of hanging nets... My nets are longer than the window frame so my hooks have to go on the 'outside like you did...right? I normally put the hooks on the inside... thank you
Thanks! I was wondering how the bloody hell do i get this hook to go into the wood. Drill a pilot hole first, ah of course! silly me. Thanks for the help
Ohh thank you so much i was wondering how to stop the curtains from sagging didnt realise you had to do that so will do it this way what the best nettings to go for for privacy i have ones with patterns on but i can still see through the window during the day ive tried plain as well
I've found having a lot of fabric helps. I use 2x the width, others say 3.5x the width. That being said, if the window is 'backlit' (there are windows on the opposing wall to the net curtains) the effect won't work, so you might want to look at alternatives.
Ideally you need a drill, perhaps find a local friend who has one you can borrow or a local neighbour, with a drill this will only take a few mins and is the easiest way
What wire cutters have you used here on this video?.....I've tried a few pair of pliers and it won't cut...it just stretches the coil.....😮....thank you
Yes this also works on UPVC windows. If unsure it is probably best to test on one window first. On UPVC windows, If you want the hooks to be a bit stronger on the corners of the window you can also use small self tapping screws.
Yes this works the same if it is double glazed window -like this plastic bay window video here - th-cam.com/video/mcNrpS6DN2U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CEULTJfzD7iTGyaw
Yes in a plastic Frame you may find self tapping screws easier - watch this video around 2mins 55 secs - th-cam.com/video/mcNrpS6DN2U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CEULTJfzD7iTGyaw
It most definitely does tear the net. Tension rod would work better or continuously stretching & cutting the chord to keep it tight every time it sags.
The issue I have is that there's no wooden bit to our windows. The previous owner put for this purpose those sticky squared hooks that you put an extended curtain rod on.
Yes definitely , but make sure you only drill 5mm deep , there is an example of this in our bay window video as this is double glazing but would be same for normal window - th-cam.com/video/mcNrpS6DN2U/w-d-xo.html
Yes you can drill into aluminium windows, but make sure you only drill approx 5mm deep so you do not drill into the glass. If drilling into aluminium a self tapping screw would be better - watch this video - th-cam.com/video/mcNrpS6DN2U/w-d-xo.html at around 2mins 55 seconds
Depends how strong your scissors are? may snap the plastic scissor handles and will definitely blunt them , but you could try if they are an old pair and you are not going to use them again
I'm such an idiot... I used my folding Stanley knife to try and cut the wire. I chipped the blade but luckily the other side is still sharp so I flipped the side over.
Not many people fit nets any more but I love them! So easy to wash, dry and hang!
P
Fit very well in my 1940s dining room

A tension rod is better again. No drilling holes for hooks. It just sticks into place in the reces

I've found that 2x the width is all that's needed for me - else it feels like you don't look out, you just look at the netting.
Thqnk you, I've had the net curtain for ages for my bathroom, but wasn't sure how to install the curtain rod.
Consice and helpful. Exactly what I needed.
Thank you!
Perfect… you saved to put rods in there before the real curtains and this idea is great
I struggled with this so thank you, very helpful.
I just got these from Amazon and I hung them on the exist hook to double layer curtains with sheer. I think it's 100% different environment.
excellent video, very informative, Thank you!
Beautifully instructed.
Thank you this is so helpful

Perfect, Now i can get the job done. Thank you.
How do i attach those little hooks without a drill? I don't have one or know how to use one...
Ideally you need a drill, perhaps find a local friend who has one you can borrow or a local neighbour, with a drill this will only take a few mins and is the easiest way
Good information and very clear. My nets look great. 🙂
Just what i needed thank you.

@@Woodyattcurtains ahhh thank you
@@Woodyattcurtains ah I think that answers my question... Let me look up what self tapping screws are.
Exactly what I was looking for
Do you do the same for the hooks in a plastic frame? Cheers.

Does using a center hook not catch/damage the net curtain?
It most definitely does tear the net. Tension rod would work better or continuously stretching & cutting the chord to keep it tight every time it sags.
Thanks for the helpful tutorial 😀
No problem, your welcome
Great thank you ❤
I would recommend a carpenters awl to make the holes. Much quicker and no chance of oversinking.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO
Glad you like it :-)
Hi can I not hammer a nail to make holes for hooks? Obviously just a tap to make small hole .
Thank you, your video it helped me a lot 😊
Going to put them up in my uni room, any recommendations for an alternative to attaching hooks directly to window?
Probably too late to say this but you can also use a tension rod.
The issue I have is that there's no wooden bit to our windows. The previous owner put for this purpose those sticky squared hooks that you put an extended curtain rod on.
hello, Thank for the tutorial. can I ask what tool did you use to cut the wire. thank you
wire cutters
How do u get the spread on the curtain even mine is always clips up in some places and spread too thin in others
What about double glazing window is it ok to drill into it

Thanks a lot for this that was very helpful 😃🙂
You're welcome 😊
Hi. I haven't got an electric drill at home. Will a hand drill do?
Thank you

nice video
Great! Simple tutorial. Ta!
Thank you😍
Thank you for this
Simple and useful, thumb up
Thank you so much
Can this method be used with a white plastic frame?
Yes, definitely, try with one hook first to check you get a good fixing , but should be fine
@@Woodyattcurtains excellent thank you so much for your help will give it a go over the weekend.
oh mu god thank you so much for this video!
Thanks
Thank you,,
Nice and clear, thanks!
Useful, thanks so much!
What did you use to cut the wire please? Exact name?
Wire Cutters, also called Diagonal Side Cutter Pliers. :-)
WIRE CUTTERS
@@faygarrity1202 thanks
Do I have to have a drill can I use a braddle
we would recommend a drill , as if you slip with a Braddle you could push your hand through the glass in the window
I cannot understand how you can hook the middle of the net curtain onto the middle hook without making a slit in the net curtain
no drill will a hammer and small nail
You don't need to cut the net. Just put the wire with net over the hook- it doesn't have to sit in fully it's just to stop sagging in the middle
Its not easy. I give up!!!!!!
Beautiful 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks - helped me out.
Very helpful
Thanks for this
What about a bay window?
Thanks.
Does the eyes will still fit in any random cut of the wires??
Yes, they do - they screw into the coil of the wire.
maybe stupid question. can we cut the wire by scissor?
Depends how strong your scissors are? may snap the plastic scissor handles and will definitely blunt them , but you could try if they are an old pair and you are not going to use them again
Nice
Thank you
I can lay laminate flooring but couldn't figure out how to put these up 🙈🙈
Thank you glad it helped

Great
nice man.
Ffs 🤦 ive been screwing the little hooks into the plasterboard reveals for the past 5 years. This is so obvious, thanks.
oh dear lol, Thank you for the feedback , at least you know a quicker way of doing this now
I'm such an idiot... I used my folding Stanley knife to try and cut the wire. I chipped the blade but luckily the other side is still sharp so I flipped the side over.
If you have them wire cutters / side cutters are much easier to but the wire than a Stanley knife
