This absurd mod is similar to things like Parodius and Cho Aniki (which you should totally check out because they are the *weirdest* shmups you'll ever play.
Some of the sprites like the zombies, purple blobby dude and baby head thing were by paul robertson, a pixel artist famous for Scott Pilgrim, Mercenary Kings, and the animation Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Brawl (which you should totally watch BTW, it's amazing. I wish it was a legit game.)
5:25 you're too young to know this, but the musical theme in the background is the theme to a show called *U.F.O.* which came out in 1970 by Gerry Anderson, who went on to essentially do the TV show version of *2001: A Space Odyssey* called *Space:1999.*
