    Haven't experienced this at all. But I will say this, if you own a Pedal Commander, be sure you only change modes while the car is at a COMPLETE STOP. I see guys on TH-cam using this device and changing modes while driving, which is not at all recommended. The directions state to only change modes while at a complete stop, otherwise you could experience problems and damage the unit. I noticed one day, my acceleration was lagging again while the Commander was on. I thought it was broken. After scouring the internet, I learned what the problem was. I had been adjusting modes while driving. Not how the unit was intended to work. You should come to a complete stop when adjusting modes to insure proper extended use.

    Sounds like the protection mode got activated because of a miscommunication with the pedal commander. Your vehicle enters (Get off the road) mode so that you can limp home or to the side of the road. This protection mode doesnt hurt your vehicle, its activated to prevent allowing the vehicle to hurt itself. Reset the codes with a ODB2 reader and there should be no issue.

    I don’t know if standard transmission had anything to do with it, but I had mine on my MT ‘16 Subaru BRZ for about two years now. Had zero issues. It was difficult to get used to, considering how sensitive the pedal was to having to manually shift gears and start. But once I got the hang of it, it blew my mind how much of a difference it makes compared to other cars of the same platform. In fact, I was able to notice a greater change as I continued to mod the car. Ran an E85 tune on UEL headers and it noticeably works way better than when it was turned off. The torque dip was fixed with the mods but with the PC on, it was able to reach the maximum power band much quicker. I have no problems.

    • @CranialCollabs
      @CranialCollabs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think these work better on Manual Transmission cars. I just got one for my Impreza because I was having a lot of 1st gear sluggishness and shift lag and now its like I unlocked the throttle body, like it was being limited before....I really wish all Manual Transmissions cars manufactured still ran on mechanical throttles. It's only right.

Long story short, I've since disconnected my pedal commander for the time being. I've also disconnected my battery for about 15 minutes to reset the CPU in my car. Reconnected the battery and no more check engine lights or throttle lights are on my dash.

The throttle is very sensitive. Never had any issues and my 2018 Chrysler 300C hemi will lite up the rear tires standing still or rolling away from a traffic light. I think the biggest issue users have is changing settings while driving and not following the installation directions. I should mention that using city mode (I never used Eco) for the highway raising my mpg from around 27 to 30. I don't regret purchasing the Petal commander. I've had to replace my accelerator pedal while using this thing, but thinking the pedal was going bad anyway, I reinstalled it. The issues were not as bad as before, but I was developing weird hesitation and surging issues again so it's gone for good. But now I think it fried my pedal again because it seems like there are dead spots in the acceleration at low speeds and wide open throttle/kick down performance is inconsistent. And, to make matters worse, my car really didn't need this silly gimmick [Mercedes AMG].

    • @capicolaspicy
      @capicolaspicy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much impossible for it to fry your throttle, it has no inputs to the gas pedal it simply reads the PWM signals coming out of it.

    There are a broad number of failures and errors within the cars own systems that could occur at any time, and cause the same problem a faulty Pedal Commander caused. My point here being that getting rid of the pedal commander doesn't ensure you won't have a similar fault or failure sometime down the road. Having said that hope everyone makes the company aware of the problems they see. They should be fixable pretty simply. Very much enjoyed seeing the video and thank you for sharing your experience. Just started using one and so far like it a lot.

      @@rosemont83 I've been an electronics engineering technician for 50 years so I know what I'm speaking of. It's not junk and it won't hurt the car, it's just a bit of trickery changing the rate of change and pulse width of the signals going in to the ECM. I quit using it simply because I realized I could cause the same exact things with my foot LOL. Now that all my warrantees have expired I'm looking at getting a tune from the guy in Colorado who I have spoken to and has a lot of experience. Thank you for your reply, it's appreciated! !

    • @rosemont83
      @rosemont83 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@capicolaspicy It's remapping the throttle pedal to have 25% of it's travel. You can't do the same thing with your foot- your foot only moves so fast. Stock, the ECU smooths the throttle signal, calculates, and applies throttle. With the power commander, it removes the smoothing, and scales the throttle for 25% travel. Yes, you can mash the pedal, but there will still be a delay between your foot and what happens at the throttle body.
      It is a big time piece of junk though. The "trickery" causes voltage implausibility errors, I just had to fix one of these for a friend of mine. These new ECUs and DMEs aren't like the old stuff of 50 years ago..

    • @capicolaspicy
      @capicolaspicy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rosemont83 like I said 50 years of electronics technical and engineering support and I know exactly how it works in exactly what it does. I designed a couple of early fly by wire systems for other things many years ago. Also became an expert in pulse width modulation systems helping food, radio controls solve a few of their problems controlling their little hobby servos. Now I agree my foot can't change positions as rapidly, but the bottom line is everything I got with the toy as far as better off the line starts and midrange acceleration I now accomplish almost identically using the damn accelerator pedal. And I can assure you with multiple witnesses having been present in the car that with a little bit of foot trickery not just mashing the pedal I am able to improve the delay to make the car acceptable to me for now.

    I don’t know how this thing works but... the pedal signal to the engine management is an opposing signal. Meaning -5 volts pulled high and +5 volts pulled low. This is how the engine management confirms the requested throttle from the driver. Remember, pressing that pedal is a “request” for fuel to the engine. I am going to dig deeper but, if the engine management system does not see EXACTLY opposing signals when the pedal moves or is static, it will trigger “fail safe” and significantly reduce your power. Most likely starting the vehicle in 3 gear and cutting back significantly on fuel delivery. I found your videos on this product because I see pedal commander advertised and am curious. Mechanically, it makes no changes to add power. Electronically, I can only think of it causing a different shifting pattern with the transmission and tricking the engine management to see a closer wave of opposing signals causing a higher fuel request perceived with light pedal application. Essentially, based upon only my training and experience, this is smoke and mirrors but my research continues later. Send me a link if anyone reads this and has more information. :)

    Finally, somebody that has experienced exactly the same issue I have with my 2017 Tacoma. I do have a pedal commander and I think that's the problem. I still love the pedal commander so I deal with the issue. It happens about twice a year, at totally random times. I know what to do now. The first time it happened, I took it to the dealer and they had no idea what the issue was. I started tinkering with the Pedal Commander and figured out how to get it working again. When this happens, I basically have to change the Pedal Commander mode to ECO (which I never use) and then back to something like (Sport, Sport+,etc). That's it! I'm back in business. Not sure where the issue lies but something to do with the pedal commander definitely. For some reason, changing the mode to ECO performs some kind of a reset on the truck. Hope this helps anybody having this issue!

    I had the same thing happen to me several times without the pedal commander.(2017 gt). Check engine light would come on, awd kicked in, and car would only get 65hp and could only go 70mph. Took it in under warranty and they said it was a bad cam sensor. After that was fixed, it did the same thing a week later and kept doing it. They had to call a Dodge engineer to figure out the problem and eventually replaced the wiring, wiring harnesses, camshaft, and a couple other things I can’t remember. Not defending pedal commander as I don’t own one, but I’m wondering if you might have the same issue I did. I swear that shit would always happen to me right when I was trying to merge in heavy traffic.

    • @randalellis3168
      @randalellis3168 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roy J dude, the odds of your cam sensor failing with wiring harnesses is next to hitting the lotto consecutively. Your engineer read faults from the management system and shotgunned parts to try and address the issue when they didn’t know what was happening. Two bad cam position sensors and then bad wiring.... come on man. Wiring is very easy to check for resistance end to end. Unplug at the cam sensor, unplug at the engine management and check resistance and shorts to ground or other wires in the harness. Unless you goofed with the wiring physically, an inductive sensor and wiring wouldn’t fail together or consecutively. It seriously wouldn’t happen. Next to impossible it’s so improbably.

    • @jmackinjersey1
      @jmackinjersey1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randalellis3168 Exactly. I had an 02 Blazer that had a short in the wiring harness out of the factory. They couldn't figure it out, because it was intermittent, and would only short out while in motion. Limp mode came on so much, I nick named that beast... Limp Biscuit. I know, I spelled it wrong.
      Any way, the dealers would try and throw parts at it, and even the engineers would put all sorts of sensors and gauges under the hood. Eventually they lemon lawed it.
      Regardless of all that, the Pedal Commander is the culprit in this video case, because there are countless YT videos of this being made and other stories about it all over. And not just the Power Commander brand, a lot of the other Throttle Modulators do the same thing.
      I found this Gale Banks video that not only hocks his own, but explains in extreme detail as to why.

    Had the PC for about a year and a half with no problems until recently. My vehicle coded that my throttle body was malfunctioning. Vehicle went into limp mode. Cleaned out the throttle body. Replaced the gasket. Cleaned the air intake sensor and replaced the air intake filter. Seemed to do the job at the time. But vehicle coded again and went into limp mode. After further diagnosis. Found that my acceleration pedal sensor was malfunctioning. That's exactly where the PC is directly attached to. Disconnected the PC and replaced the acceleration pedal with a new sensor. Problem solved. Vehicle is back to normal.
    I believe after use of the PC constantly and using the different modes. That it eventually fries up, scrambles and confuses the sensors. Causing vehicle to code and go into limp mode.
    It was fun using while it lasted!

    I just got a pedal commander for my v6 Honda Accord coupe about a month ago, and something very similar happened to me. I was loving the pedal commander, having no issues, then all of a sudden while driving down a steep hill about 5 warning lights flash on my dashboard and the throttle stops working. I quickly pulled onto a side street, restarted my car, and thankfully the throttle response came back. I drove home, the warning lights still on, took out the pedal commander, then took my car to a dealership. The thing ruined my throttle body, now I have a $950 throttle body replacement to worry about. (Thank god for the warranty!)
    But seriously, not worth it. I just called Pedal Commander telling them I want my money back. Definitely regret my decision. Luckily it didn't cause an accident. Glad you're warning people about this!

    Usually American vehicles are very sensitive to strange bodies (aftermarket mods) and they enter a safe mode once anything weird is discovered, especially Dodge & Chrysler normally enter a safe mode for the transmission and engine light goes on if you are driving aggressively and you hit gas at the same time while vehicle is shifting if you are using the tiptronic shifter.
    so for American cars it is always best to perform a tune rather than installing an aftermarket instant mod that is not introduced to the vehicle before, while tuning is introduced to the vehicle which makes it safer, also from my own experience with Dodge for 8 years, they are crappy vehicles with a lot of issues. Powerful? yes, enjoyable to drive? yes, but not worth the headache when it comes to the high maintenance they require all the time.
    For Japanese cars it is more easy to deal with those kind of mods.
    best of luck man.

It first happened when I was at a red and took off at regular speed and the car stalled lost power took my foot off gas and pressed it again nothing. Then like five seconds later everything turned on back to normal. It happened like 4 times took it to dealer they told me because I pressed on the brake and gas at the same time . I told them no I drive with one foot . The told me I drive with two feet that is the problem they told me . I was so upset at the dealership I’m a 45 year old man I’m not a kid they can lie to . I think this is a defect on the car . I don’t think that the pedal commander has anything to do with it . I had the same problem. Dodge is trying to cover this problem up , and blame it on operator error. I think a lot of other people have this problem the same as the door panels coming apart after 1 year .

Literally to get home had to drive and put it in neutral when I stopped otherwise gif would cut off. I had to end up replacing the throttle bottle and that was more then the $350 I spent on the pedal comander so it definitely ain’t worth the problems it causes😭 was fun tho💀 but don’t waist no money.

    Same issues with my pedal commander on my Ram 6.7. I disconnect and reconnect to solve issue. For me it happens every now and then at low speeds.

      Abel Gonzalez yeah unfortunately it’s happening to a good amount of people. Do you just reconnect every time and keep it moving? It got too bad on my to want to keep it

      Roman DeHonney , I’m debating on keeping it. Switching the modes after it does it, seems to help, except that my lighting bolt for Throttle control light stays ON until next drive cycle.

      UPDATE!!! Pedal commander issues continue and I’ve decided to trash it. My issue is same as many others. Electronic Throttle control (red lightning bolt flashing) issues go away as soon as I disconnect PC.

      I have a 2011 Mercedes C350 and tried the Pedal Commander for a week before returning it. My only intention was just to try it because the company offered free returns. Years later, I experienced the same issues you described. When I tried flooring the pedal, I instantly lose all power and my check engine light turns on while going maybe 5-10mph. I have to pull over, and restart the car. I know for sure the Pedal Commander messed up my cars throttle.

    Same issue happened to me in my 17 expedition. I got scared. I got the check engine light as well and also a transmission error. When this happened my car was driving very slow with very little horse power. It could of being dangerous but thank God I was not going fast either. Not cool pedal commander.

    Putting a short ram intake on your car can sometimes cause same problems

    I herd this from others also. I think it is doing it for the fact if you have ti set on to high of a setting it will make the car operate out of standards or its the fact that newer cars when they detect a car doing something it should not like taking off fater then it should it will shut down the car. the most dangerus thing for me tho that would prevent me from using is the fact that its not made and tested to meat government standards and its made in chila witch means any time it could fail lanching your car at high speed nd the only to to stop is crach or hope you turn the car off in time or can toss the car in nutrel and this can be a hige problume for some since i beleve some cars with push button stop will not alow you to turn the car off with out it being in park and if you have one of them cars a long with a electronic breaking system that will not let you break when you ae excelerating in speed you no foot on gas and break break disables then you would be dead. its better to stick with things the dealer ship approves. now i know it cost money but you can just have the ecu adjusted and on some cars have the srt pages added to the car. this is way saffer you on most dodge trucks you can disable the drm for faster take off.
