YES!! I recently graduated from a GIANT PEDALBOARD to a very small board with only HX STOMP + CloudBurst (connected to HX STOMP effects loop) + a Vertex Boost (which I keep last in the signal chain to clean boost whenever I need it). I'm also using 2 footswitch extension (via TRS cable). This whole setup fits in my backpack, and it sounds great.
@@jamesmc1600 I just set the knobs on the Cloudburst to what I like, and pretty much leave it there. Also, I set the Cloudburst "Dry Signal" to Analog Mode (see page 10 of the manual).
HX Stomp XL is my all in one rig now. Ive had a big pedalboard, a Helix floor, LT, HX Stomp + pedals....Stomp XL is the goldilocks for me. 4 Snapshots instead of 3, dedicated tap tempo/tuner, enough buttons for every setting, all in one and no need for a power supply or patch cables that can fail.
@user-tf4tv9bj4f The Floor and even the LT are quite large, making them much more difficult to tote around. Stomp XL and Stomp fit in a gig bag, backpack, or messenger-style bag. Less is more, sometimes.
I’ve often toyed with the idea of downsizing my floor to a stomp XL, but not sure if I could easily do without an expression pedal. Maybe a Pod Go might be a better choice?
For simplicity and flexibility, a stomp and a Morningstar mc6 gives me more sounds and options than I could ever need. Preset/snap/stomp switching, tap tempo, and even looper control. Might be too tweaky for many people, but it’s perfect for the size.
And a compilation of John putting nice guitars on spinning stools. Always makes me want to scream, that. TPS do it to. Mick will just chuck his nice strat down on a high metal stool, and go for a wander about. Freaks me out.
I've used that exact rig for live shows for the past 3 years. I set my HX Stomp up in Snapshot mode and use the 2 additional switches for scrolling to next or previous presets. The 3 stomp footswitches select 3 different snapshot options (usually Clean, Crunch, Solo). Personally, I'd like to have the capability to have a expression pedal as well as the Boss F5-6.
This is exactly what I did with my Hx stomp last month! I love it and it's so flexible. I set up mine slightly differently so I don't lose a block with the fx loop send. At the end of my chain I split the amp off to the right and the direct left signal goes to my amp. Ive always been a pedal guy into a clean platform amp so this set up is very comfortable for me. I love how you set up the different levels and gain staging with snapshots. I always have to have a clean boost so I put a (stereo) gain block before the outputs and use the 3 snapshots for clean dirty and lead. Then I use the snapshots to adjust the amount of clean gain boost needed to take a solo within each snapshot. (or turn the lead snap into a rhythm)
4:44 You can move amp+cab to "send" line and ditch that volume block, inverting your amp/no amp logic. Additionally you can turn phones output into another send in global settings to use it as an output for the "front of the house" situation
Great solution, but I would prefer a solution with redundancy. Using the HX Stomp with a Friedman IRX, IRD, or Tonex One, you have an emergency backup to finish the gig should something fail. Also, spare power supplies are a must.
The only thing that matters on this channel is the playing! lovely stuff brother! Enjoy your playing and subscribe to your channel for the music, the ideas and the lessons that you put out. You should definitely do more of that. Have a good one!
@@matthewdortona237 I'm putting the loop block before delays and reverbs, and after stomps. the loop is set to instrument level. I did this a couple of years ago. I don't use snapshot mode. I use the external footswitch as bank buttons and the three buttons on the HX Stomp to change the patch. Works great.
Great tones as always John! I’m a big fan of this kind of pared down/simplified approach to a live rig. As much as we guitar players love a sauntering meander down a side track or two (hell, a lot of us live down those side tracks permanently 😂) the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, and this kind of set up is the epitome of that approach. I just got a morningstar (the one with color lablels) to use with hxstomp. It's not much bigger than the boss pedal. It can be as simple or as involved as you like. I use an amp for my electric and an IR out the FX send to the board for my acoustic. Us ingthe FX send to the board gives me tons of options.
