Not just in firearms but I have a FX impact m3 .357 and .22 and just watching you and listening and trying what you speak on I have been able to hold 1” group at 150 yards and overall gained much more confidence shooting off a variety of objects!! Much respect. Amazing marksman
1. Bullet twist. .223 for example. A 1-7 twist can shoot 77gr bullets which are extremely accurate at long ranges. A 1-12 twist can shoot 55 gr accurately but are very cheap if you're on a budget. They may not be accurate at long distances. 2. Scopes with enough elevation adjustment. 18 mil or 60 moa found in a lot of budget scopes, when used with a 20 moa rail puts the lower end of adjustment in the unreliable range. The top and bottom 10 moa or 3 mils shouldn't be used as it is unreliable and can damage the inner workings of the scope. 3. Zero stop is a must. 4. Marry that scope to the rifle with a good set of rings. No marriage lasts with cheap rings. 5. Get something with a 10 rd detachable mag. Life is so much better. Savage currently makes a budget friendly setup in the Savage Axis ll Precision. 6. .223 and .308 usually are cheaper to buy and both can go the distance. 7. Get a torque screwdriver driver. Scopes are susceptible to crushing if over torqued.
Pieter, you just reminded of it in 1.22. I bought a Lithgow LA102 in 308 a few years ago. After watching one of your videos, not sure which one, it was a while back. I decided to buy MDT LSS Gen2 chassis for my LA102. Its been doing great. Thanks to you champ.

For a beginner setup I got a custom made AX Chassis 6.5 mm, with TTD Trigger, Bartlein Barrell, Custom Action and a TT 5-25x56 scope all custom painted. Best 12K I ever spent..:)
One big 'mistake' for me is managing expectations. I'm my worst critic for sure. One big thing I have to manage is getting into the correct position. I don't shoot matches (yet) but do put pressure on myself to shoot tiny groups at any distance. When the recoil of my 6.5 or .223 takes the scope off the POA, I get annoyed pretty quickly because that was my mistake. I used to not manage breathing that well but have gotten better. Breathing through the shot might be something you could discuss. Your reloading course was on point and though I've loaded my own for decades I did pick up a couple nuggets. One thing I do use is a bore scope. I've consistently found my chambers to be cut longer than 'spec' and that's easy to pick up with a bore scope. Thus knowing the exact length of the chamber is a measured dimension and not something read off a page. Anyone just getting into reloading would be very well served getting the course! You definitely inspired me to get into precision rifle, I built a howa 1500 in 6.5 creed in a XRS chassis. I have only competed once because of recent laws in the US I've been pouring money into AR's but hope to get back into it soon

Haha, when iv got my first bolt action, one visit on the range was for zeroing scope and second was Hunting Rifle Shooting competition with factory Savage 10 Lawenforcement in 308 :-D Best start of PRS shooting what i can imagine :) Since that time i build high-end .22 for PRS and now im about to finish my 6.5CM build :-D The savage is completely different rifle then on the start, but it good more for hunting then completition (because the bell and carlson stock doesnt have possibility to work with center of mass).
Great tip! Along with having a plan I believe having a routine/checklist before/between stages. Can’t tell you how many times NOT RESETTING TURRETS crushes people. 1 rev off! OMG. Phil VELAYO has a great pre-shot checklist that everyone should consider building for themselves. Great stuff!
Along with your time management point-. Don’t be afraid to practice with a timer. It will help you learn how much time you really do have. 90 seconds is longer than people think and we never feel like it’s enough.
I'm learning the equipment lesson just now. Replacing my MOA scopes with MRAD because EVERYONE at the range talks Mils. Luckily my MOA scopes are only Diamondback Tacticals, good time to invest in some decent glass.
I know Rendezvous shooting, sometimes pushing yourself for harder shots works vs easy shots. 6'×6' buffalo I missed, but shot 1"×1" target @80yrds with .495 round ball with 45gr FFF Black powder.
Probably a howa 1500 barrelled action £500 ish get the 24" heavy barrel. An MDT XRS £450 a Vortex Viper PST FFP 5-25x50 MRad or Moa depend if you prefer metric or imperial. Mrad is mils 1cm per click at 100m, moa is is quarter of an inch per click at 100y or m can't remember which confusing af. Then either a suppressor of your choosing depending what country you live in its harder or easier to get a suppressor. Other choice is the apw raptor think they are like £100. Gonna need a bipod i expect they are surprisingly expensive, if you just wanna buy once and cry once then MDT Ckye pod new ones released soon but they are like £450-£500 if not an Atlas i believe are a bit cheaper. Well I may be a bit like Yusuf 30 06 loud and proud, emphasis on loud. I have a Remington 870 in 30 06 and it came with a big tank brake on the front. It's a deer rifle for now but when these ammo issues die down I want to try precision rifle with it. Your tips have been excellent for hunting too!

I am not sure what scope to get but Don't want a cheap one because I agree with buying great equipment to start.I have been told by a prs shooter to check out the leupold 5×25×56 pr2 I believe.The leupold tremor looks too busy.The 5×25 pr2 is a Christmas tree reticle which I don't know how to use yet but am watching videos and learning.If you could offer any ideas on scope selection that would be great.Budget is around $2,000 to $2500.

Have two questions I am sure you have been asked a million times? 1.What would be the most ideal but cost-effective setup for someone like me that is starting out. 2.From the training and mentorship side, how do I choose the right person or school/training center? My biggest mistake? Building a M1A to shoot PRS with. lol Nah, not a mistake, it's challenging though. (in process of building a 6mm ARC in a AR platform) Taking the class was a huge help for me. Well, two classes. Level one was all classroom and just went over basics of optics, range estimation, rifle set up etc. Level 2 was a little classroom then all range. (Lead instructor was special forces sniper and is a PRS competitor, assistant instructors were also both army snipers, one regular infantry the other ranger) Guys, the classes, if available to you and you can financially swing it, will be some of the best money you can spend on this sport. The place I took classes at here in Michigan offers a level 3 or you can take the week long course. Level 3 and the week long course includes a movers section of training along with position building and a couple other things. Watching and listening to other competitors is huge for learning. I've yet to have it if I ask one of the experienced guys a question that they won't try to help me. To me the long range shooters are the most helpful shooters on the planet. I just got into it last year on the shooting side (RO'd for a couple years) and anybody I'd squad with would let me use bags, tripods etc. Now over the course of this winter I've bought some gear off them. They are upgrading so I'd buy their used stuff at a heavily discounted price. If you're new to the sport other shooters will generally help you out. If you're here in Michigan and you ask Francis Colon for help (he's a MDT sponsored shooter and terrific guy) he is always more than happy to give pointers/advice etc but be advised, there's going to be a wave of knowledge coming at ya. You better be ready to swim. lol Biggest thing to remember, have fun. It's a challenging sport. Things don't always go right. Just enjoy the time on the range, with the friends you make while doing this. If new to it, concentrate on getting the hits. Speed will come. (I'm still working on that part) Just shoot and have fun.
Do the magpul aics 308 SA mags work with the mdt lss xl gen 2 chassis with the howa 1500 6.5 creedmoor? Mdt website doesn't ship to where I live in Guam. I'm only finding the magpul mags available to me.

Great content, thanks! Please advice, I am about to change my 308 barrel and I am trying to decide between the 6.5x47 and the 6.5 creedmoor. Lapua makes brass for both now so I think it doesn't matter that much anymore when accuracy is key. I don't hunt, just shoot steel and paper and maybe one day PRS. What's your opinion?
If you want to do PRS one day you should look into 6x47 or 6 creedmoor then have less recoil and they are quite a bit flatter. Just my opinion. I and just finishing building my first prs gun in 6 creedmoor and I’m quite looking forward to it.
@@dragonflyfab9703 thats a good cartridge but if you are wanting to shoot heavier that 70 gr ish bullets then I would say that you should think about 22 creedmoor. With a 70 gr bullet the 22 creedmoor beats the 22-250 by about 200 fps. They are both really good cartridges but for heavy bullets that would work best for long range and prs the creedmoor wins
@@dragonflyfab9703 if you want to shoot to longer distances you need heavier bullets and normally 22-250 factory rifles have too slow twist rates for those
If you reload either will be good. For factory loads creedmoor. I personally use creedmoor and love it. Performance is the same in both. Currently i don't think i'll go any smaller than 6,5mm since it gives me more feedback on impact or miss. Couple of guys were shooting AR's on one match i participated, and we just couldn't tell if they hit or not on a heavy plate at 610m. Plate was all shot up, you couldn't hear the hits because all the gun fire and the plate just didn't move. 6mm shouldn't be as bad thought. just my preference

Here's what I see, a multitude of shooting errors for not having any knowledge of what's important to good shooting, no matter the shooting game. In other words, shooters think they know how to shoot yet observation of them reveals that they have no understanding of basic marksmanship: sight alignment, trigger control, adjustment of natural point of aim, building a solid position from bone and artificial support, follow through, wind appraisal, and calling the shot to enhance shooter/target analysis. These shooters place too much emphasis on the rifle and whether MOA or Mils is best for range finding and wind favors when perhaps Mil Reticle and MOA Dials would be best. At any rate, my games are NRA Long-Range and US Service Rifle Competition, mostly iron sight events. My recent purchase of a scope for Service Rifle Competition has revealed to me I am going to need to adapt to scope, by building a more solid position to get a better perception for steadiness. So, while I am experienced, continuing education is still a necessity for getting desired results.

Do the magpul aics 308 SA mags work with the mdt lss xl gen 2 chassis with the howa 1500 6.5 creedmoor? Mdt website doesn't ship to where I live in Guam. I'm only finding the magpul mags available to me.

Great content, thanks! Please advice, I am about to change my 308 barrel and I am trying to decide between the 6.5x47 and the 6.5 creedmoor. Lapua makes brass for both now so I think it doesn't matter that much anymore when accuracy is key. I don't hunt, just shoot steel and paper and maybe one day PRS. What's your opinion?
If you want to do PRS one day you should look into 6x47 or 6 creedmoor then have less recoil and they are quite a bit flatter. Just my opinion. I and just finishing building my first prs gun in 6 creedmoor and I’m quite looking forward to it.

@@dragonflyfab9703 thats a good cartridge but if you are wanting to shoot heavier that 70 gr ish bullets then I would say that you should think about 22 creedmoor. With a 70 gr bullet the 22 creedmoor beats the 22-250 by about 200 fps. They are both really good cartridges but for heavy bullets that would work best for long range and prs the creedmoor wins
@@dragonflyfab9703 if you want to shoot to longer distances you need heavier bullets and normally 22-250 factory rifles have too slow twist rates for those
If you reload either will be good. For factory loads creedmoor. I personally use creedmoor and love it. Performance is the same in both. Currently i don't think i'll go any smaller than 6,5mm since it gives me more feedback on impact or miss. Couple of guys were shooting AR's on one match i participated, and we just couldn't tell if they hit or not on a heavy plate at 610m. Plate was all shot up, you couldn't hear the hits because all the gun fire and the plate just didn't move. 6mm shouldn't be as bad thought. just my preference

MAAR jy kan onder sekere omstandighede een kry onder 21 maar dit is nie altyd maklik nie en as ek reg kan onthou moet jy iemand kry as n voog om saam te teken en jou motiveering moet BAIE goed wees. Dis makliker om n s16 geweer te kry as n s13 handwapen tans maar dis moontlik.... net moeilik.

Gun fit was my biggest mistake with shotguns I’ve now made all my guns fit optics are the most import parts of the rifle then the trigger then the stock

Here's what I see, a multitude of shooting errors for not having any knowledge of what's important to good shooting, no matter the shooting game. In other words, shooters think they know how to shoot yet observation of them reveals that they have no understanding of basic marksmanship: sight alignment, trigger control, adjustment of natural point of aim, building a solid position from bone and artificial support, follow through, wind appraisal, and calling the shot to enhance shooter/target analysis. These shooters place too much emphasis on the rifle and whether MOA or Mils is best for range finding and wind favors when perhaps Mil Reticle and MOA Dials would be best. At any rate, my games are NRA Long-Range and US Service Rifle Competition, mostly iron sight events. My recent purchase of a scope for Service Rifle Competition has revealed to me I am going to need to adapt to scope, by building a more solid position to get a better perception for steadiness. So, while I am experienced, continuing education is still a necessity for getting desired results.
