The Trickster and Anomalous Phenomena

  • For well over a hundred years, western scholars have struggled to comprehend the prevalence of “trickster” tales in ancient and indigenous mythology. While these tales hold many, hotly debated meanings, recent research suggests that the trickster may, in part, be a coded representation of anomalous phenomena.

      That might be true, it might not want us to know _what_ it is, but it does want us to explore the possibilities.
      Otherwise, why would they do it? It/they are making us see and experience these bizarre things. If they didn't want us to know, they would leave us alone or act in a more covert manner.

      Humans are merely animals like every other sentient being on the planet. If there are beings messing with us we are naturally going to be as bewildered as wild animals who may receive care or have a tracker placed on them for conservation efforts. Once we reject human exceptionalism (which is a baseless and untennable philosophical position to hold in the first place), we can see the truth of the matter. We are simply slightly cleverer chimpanzees getting all worked up over the smarter kids on the block, or maybe even getting worked up over nothing at all.

      @@perhapsyes2493 That begs the question as to why though. What would *any* intelligence (particularly one as powerful as this one seems to be) have to gain spending its time being so careful in spurring a civilization's progress while going out of its way to keep that very civilization from realizing it exists at all?
      It's almost as if, in a weird sort of way, our progress *is* their progress.

    Believe it or not; but I remember my little sister telling us that she had seen this bipedal entity with the head of a rabbit one night wandering in the room where my mother gathered us to sleep with her when our father worked at night. She said she was the only one who woke up, we were all asleep at the moment, me, my mother and our other sister. She told her story first thing in the morning and we never really knew what to think about it since, and given that we had rabbits in their cages in the yard, but well outside the house. She was never one to make things up or lie; she must have been 5 years old, today she is a gendarme.
    This story happened in 2001 or 2002 in Mboro, Senegal, West Africa.

      Very interesting story, thanks for sharing that. A cousin of mine has had many anomalous experiences in his life, but one involved little mechanical spiders crawling all over his room at night. He tried to crush them, but they would regain their shape after being squished, as if they were made up rubber. He ran to his parents room but couldn't wake them. I don't even know what to do with stories like these. How do we categorize them? How can we even begin to understand what they mean?

    When you have a paranormal event happen. I noticed just when it starts you become aware for a split second that something is going to happen. Then when you see the event you become frozen in awe and self doubt at the same time. As the event is happening. You are not thinking about grabbing a camera. You are watching something play out and you must let it play out. When the event passes the first thing to come back is sound. For some odd reason sound almost turns off as the event happens or your brain stops processing sound during the event. So sound comes back first and it's very noticable. Then the feeling of dread. Then comes the process of self confirmation. Did that actually happen? Then you ponder the meaning of what happened and how to internalize it. There is a process to it but for me at least. It's the spit second of knowing before a event happens. It's like I'm programmed to watch something happen. The no sound thing is spooky when you notice it's always gone first. and internalizing what was the meaning make me wonder the most. I believe someone or something has a tech that can mess with our brain electrochemical processes. Basically it can make us see what it wants us to see. The tell tale sign is you know when it's just about to happen a split sec before it's starts. If you saw something paranormal. For real. Then I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about. I don't believe it's a trickster. I believe it's something else.

    • @MURD3RWAVE
      @MURD3RWAVE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@Kristopherberry I've had sleep paralysis a few times. Completely different. Just hold your breath and it breaks you out in seconds. I'll give you a quick example. I was in my apartment. Sitting in my room with my door open. I hear walking coming down my hallway and I instantly thought. It's my roommate. So I wait a sec or two and expect him to walk in and say hi. So wait. Then all the sudden instead of my roommate a old lady with blond hair peeks into my room. It was so unexpected that I didn't say anything. I was thinking. Oh a old person wondered into the wrong apartment. She was looking at the opposite wall from where I was sitting. I watched her scan my stuff. She had bright blue eyes. Just looked like a typical old person. So after about 5 secs. I'm getting ready to ask her if she needs help. Just then she looks at me. Her eyes widen in surprise. She leans back out into the hallway. I get up immediately. Less then a sec I'm at the door and I peek out. She is still there. I'm looking down and I'm about to ask if she needs help. Just then I noticed she had invisible legs knees down. I could see the rug where her legs should be. This is daytime btw. Anyways. I look back up and start to put together what is happening. She shrugs at me and FLOATS. Not walk floats backwards still looking at me and turned invisible about 6 feet away. I slam the door in freight. Pure freight. I sit down and feel my heart slap against my ribcage. Then all the sudden. Everything got loud. Like during the whole thing I didn't notice any sound till I heard her walking towards my room. Once I sat down. All the birds outside, the TV. It's like I was def when the event happened and now I could hear again. Also I noticed just before I saw her I knew something was way off and it's wasn't my roommate. Only a spit sec before she leaned in. I posted my full story on Reddit a few times looking for others that experience the same thing. Anyways a few years later and I saw a UFO about 2 hundred feet of the ground. It was just cruising by and I noticed immediately the no sound thing. It's like when something so strange happens. It's like your body knows to just look. You somehow know to drop everything and look at this spot something incredible is going to happen. It's like some force that makes you stare and not hear anything. I've talked with other online and that's when I found people that noticed there is no sound and just before whatever paranormal event happens. You get this spit second knowing something is incredibly off. Hope that helps. I'm not special. I don't believe I'm a medium or a psychic. I'm barley spiritual. I just noticed a feeling before strange things happen. And talking to others online I been reading others noticed it too just before whatever happened to them. I believe it's true a alien abductees could prob feel it when they are coming.

      I've been reading bob Monroe and I've been thinking that perhaps there is no sound because the experiencer is actually having an out of body experience and just not noticing it (you don't need to float away from your body)

    • @MURD3RWAVE
      @MURD3RWAVE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@farquoi no. I don't. It's just like normal. Except a feeling I have a hard time putting into words. It's like sound dims to nothing. Then a feeling of awe that turns to dread. It sucks because I get why people think others are making stories up. I used to think the same thing. In all honesty. There is something that is out there and when it interacts with you it feels so wrong. Like it's a shotgun blast to your world view. I say a ghost and a UFO in my life. I consider the ghost the worst because I watched her. She made steps walking to my room. That's what caught my attention to look at my door and expect my roommate. This happened about 8 years ago. I think about it all the time. She made noises. So they have a psychical effect on the world. I watched her look around my room. So she was thinking about something. Then when she shrugged at me. I felt it was a oh you caught me. I wasn't expecting you either. Then to watch a human being float backwards and vanish. It's so messed up! The UFO thing was a fluke. I was stuck in traffic. We all saw it. Only for a few secs. But it was a machine floating in the air. Like I said. Both times just a split sec before. I felt something super important was about to happen. Sound was gone compared during the event. So odd. Keeps me up at night when I think about why. And also why me. Why do I have to know. It's so annoying to hear people disrespect what I saw.

    I understand that trickster archetypes might seem to be related to paranormal experiences, but I think that's actually an instance of correlation not necessarily being causation. Monsters are clearest on the horizon and due to humanity's natural fear of someone or something disrupting the natural order it's easy for them to be assigned to that. A good way of telling this is the numerous ways tricksters are utilized in mythology and folklore. It indicates something far deeper. I will admit that the idea of tricksters being a social mechanism humans evolved to keep renewing our social norms is compelling.
    The machine elves and kaleidoscope jesters during DMT and LSD trips are different enough as I think there's something very telling that a fool comes to teach you a lesson. Something in our culture that survives by humiliating itself either by mocking you or as stated before teaching you a lesson, I feel is something aimed, feared by, or generated as a consequence of our egos. And the ego is very much a personal psychological aspect rather than a social one, which the trickster archetype seems to be at. Unless of course social ego is a thing.
    Personally I think that the answer to a lot of paranormal phenomena lies in the quantum properties of cellular microtubules and the EM sensitivity of DNA acting like a fractal antenna under certain conditions.

      If these entities are trans-dimensional shit-stirrers, I wonder why it is that supposed recovered alien spacecrafts are of a dense material to be manipulated by 3rd dimensional desires of low vibratory fleshes.
      It is the claim that they are powered psionically... There is an overlap we cannot grasp.

    According to scholars, the figure of the trickster is also important in the field of literature. Some say that characters like Hamlet or Judge Holden exhibit characteristics comparable to those of the trickster. Great video, mr. Charbonneau. I really like the way your work connects tropes and themes within anomalistics with a certain broader context, touching on history and the field of the human psyche itself.

      I found the book to be a pretty challenging read. I also started reading it once a year ago and gave up. He really buries you in details and doesn’t do a lot in the way of summing up. I feel that the book could have been better presented, but the points he made are really important. I feel as though my understanding of anomalous phenomena grew significantly after reading this book - I haven’t felt that way about a book since reading Jacques Vallee’s stuff years ago.

    I think this phenomenon, whatever it is, acts as an agent of change.
    Not necessarily for good nor bad, just 'change' in whichever way it goes. To build new things, one needs to first clear ground.
    The point you made about it being more prevalent in times of political dissatisfaction was quite poignant.
    I don't think there are many who are happy with how things are right now.

    Easily the best ELI5 overview of the phenomena. Your best video yet. I've long thought the elusiveness of the phenomena is a fundamental and defining property of it. "Disclosure" is ultimately impossible for this reason, since there is nothing to disclose. Analysis of "crash retrievals" will yield nothing actionable, just like analysis of big foot fur & foot steps yields only further ambiguity. The control system is working as designed. The last 8 minutes, including the idea that fraud in the psychic field is baked into the cake, so to speak, was mind blowing as it perfectly articulates how omnipotent and pervasive this phenomena is. This video describes the closest thing we will ever get to "disclosure" or "understanding" the phenomena. Well done.
