    Love your quote “who dies with the most toys, wins!” That’s wisdom right there. It’s what the ultra wealthy never seem to grasp….they are afflicted by the disease of greed.

      Yeah, in an era marked by the COVID pandemic... we've somehow managed to overlook the greatest contagion of them all... the affliction of greed, as well as the malaise of self-importance that underlies it. Oops. Anyhow, thanks once again for tuning-in and listening. Gratitude for your presence in this universe. Eric D.

    This was BEAUTIFUL!
    I am going through a life-changing transformation right now and integrating the previously lost part of myself that is deeply connected to the trickster archetype.
    Thank you thank you thank you.
    Not only does the trickster have FUN, but he changes the entire world by embracing the absurdity, sharing the raw uncomfortable truth, and reconnecting us to ourselves.
    And all this happens organically when he allows himself to be fully himself.
    To play life as a free man.
    Reminds me of this quote:
    “The employee embraces the world and changes himself accordingly.
    The artist (or trickster or changemaker) embraces HIMSELF and changes the world accordingly.”
    Thank you so much.
    You have a tremendous gift my friend.

    I really like this archtype. my 2 favorite characters Luffy from One Piece and Jack Sparrow from Pirates of Caribean also share this same characteristics. They laugh at the face of death , as in to say "you finally caught me , well at least i had fun". They are willing to live as "fools" and tell the truth no matter if they face death in the process. I too professor feel a type of kinship with this characters due to them telling things I wish I have the guts to say it.

    Dr. Dodson: As the Rig Veda proclaimed, Truth is one, the wise call it by many names. No single religion or philosophy owns truth exclusively and outright. Your great talent--and service to us through your channel--is to not only present core universal truths that I see across Buddhism, Stoicism, the Bhagavad Gita, and even Christianity (sans that suspend-your-skepticism mysticism part...) and as refracted by more recent thinkers like Nietzsche and Camus, but to interpret this collective wisdom in the context of our idiotic current Western "culture." As I experience this current world, I usually feel like all of the wisdom the ancients and some moderns struggled to acquire and share, has been completely lost. Thank you for your great service.

    • @ericdodson2644
      @ericdodson2644  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ha ha... I had to laugh (or perhaps cry) when I saw the wonderfully sarcastic way you were putting the word, "Culture" in quotes. Yes, living in a world like ours can definitely be frustrating, especially for the reasons you're describing. But on the other hand, its shortcomings and deficiencies give people like myself (and perhaps you) something meaningful and worthwhile to do with our lives... to throw the small weight of our existence on the other side of the scale... to give voice to the depth of things, even in a world that doesn't necessarily want to hear it. And although it may be an article of faith on my part, I don't think that the wisdom of the ancients has been irredeemably lost. It's mostly a matter of resurrecting it, of embodying it in our very different world... and ultimately, a matter of making it accessible and even (God forbid) *inviting* to reclaim it. But on the other hand, I'd say that even if all of that is ultimately a futile, quixotic task... well... what's the alternative? Just to acquiesce? Just to start kowtowing to all of our world's hollow, tin gods? Just to wander onto the ice floes, waiting for eventual extinction? Personally, I prefer to keep fighting. But maybe that's just me. In any case, thanks for your time and attention... and for your thoughtful comment. Sorry if my response is a bit long. Eric D.

In the battle of Los Angeles, which I believe was in the wee hours of February 25, 1941 many people witnessed a flying saucer or something came to it. And I do believe that was in the collective unconscious of the Los Angeles at the time. by the way, the incident lasted 2 to 3 hours I think and 14,000 rounds of anti-aircraft were fired at whatever it was.
    By the way, the bombing of Pearl Harbor was only about six weeks prior to that and Japanese submarines shelled
    some oil installation in Santa Barbara just a week or two before this incident.

    When I think of how this relates to MBTI cognitive functions, I think of introverted feeling and extroverted intuition type personality’s like INFP and ENFP. So impractical but so gifted.

    • @bigtimbolim
      @bigtimbolim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, the way I think of it, I think ENFPs stay very clear of the habits within the Trickster archetype. They are almost always heralds of a function within a society, being able to understand chaos but not delving into it or playing with it like a Trickster would. They can identify and organize good information when they see it, but they do not create it themselves. They understand well how to find success within the operations of society regardless of its "dictatorial" degrees. However, they do not seek to redefine society to be less dictatorial like a Trickster may. People like Gary Vee, for one example, who understands well how business and marketing works, and simply knows how to get a good ball rolling. However, he's not a visionary, as nothing he says is original information and all information he chooses to work with falls within the framework of the current economical system.
      Trickster to me seems much more of a Introverted Feeling Introverted Intuition type. Fi/Ni, ISFP and INTJ. When you define neither your values nor your drive from outside sources, you can really dance to a music that no one else can hear.

    • @Ajayjohnson264
      @Ajayjohnson264 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @fattie thanks for the comment, I love pinging off ideas. I see your point, although I feel (I know, “feel” lol) that an intj is way too outcome dependent and they are one of the top 4 masculine types. No way a trickster archetype is going be super masculine. Plus Fe blind spot gives them little to no social grace. They couldn’t play a kings jester with no suspicion. I see a trickster type as a feminine type and a walking contradiction. You’re probably right, maybe not enfp but I do think infp fits it well. They seem to be foolish masters like uncle iroh from the avatar. I think he might be infp. Fi+Ne is a crazy powerful combo. Perfect for destabilizing social constructs.

    Archetypes & the heroes journey have fascinated me since i first heard about them. I think of them/it as the evolution of the mind similar to how the body has been evolving since day dot. Growing within the culture they are found yet also have commonalities with other cultures.

    • @ericdodson2644
      @ericdodson2644  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, well I think that large swathes of the world are fascinated with the Hero's Journey... at least if Hollywood is any indication. But beyond its entertainment-value, I think that the fascination of the Hero's Journey mostly has to do with how it tends to call out the Hero Archetype in US, and to beckon us toward laying claim to our deeper possibilities in this life. But of course, hardship is necessary for that, mostly because being transformed into a hero first means being brought to the outermost boundaries that define and delimit our existence. Basically, it probably won't happen while we're lounging in our comfort-zones. And I'd say that along the way, something important has to be at-stake, and teetering in an uncertain balance. And here's where Momento Mori enters into the process... because what bigger stakes are there than the continuity of life itself? Hell... maybe I should just to a whole video on this... maybe I will... maybe I will... [insert maniacal cackling here]. Gratitude. Eric D.

    Tricksters deliver our souls. Trickster = a big pile of “hard to navigate… always trying to provide for fellow men & women & Earth”. Laughter (a prime social lubricant) above all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exceeding limits is a noble undertaking… to go beyond the daily drudge, the drive to enlighten. Just who & what is enlightened is another question altogether. “Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”
    El Trickster (of my clan & blood) hears the music, does the dance, and is not mad. Administrators in the 11th grade ask me to leave THEIR school because I told them I was going “run away” to NYC.
    Tranlimitality or limerence? “The state of being infatuated or obsessed with another person (or race), typically experienced involuntarily and characterized by a strong desire for reciprocation of one's feelings but not primarily for a sexual relationship - perhaps for enlightenment?
    Fu*kers who want to control us… Dems or Repubs or Whoever may wish to remember that me & my kind don’t wanna eat crap for dinner… even if they do.
    The trickiness of the Trickster = the trickiness of life itself. Wisdom that doesn’t know laughter is small and retarded. Say this and smile, “I am sofa king we todd did” (four times, with friends). We can ALL be bearers of light… and we can ALL sing the one song (“uni-verse”) of life’s enfoldment into greater awareness… an abiding intrepidity to seek delight (we can be in the barns and/or we can be noble.).

    I suggest the most evolved understanding of the "trickster" is found in the work of Robert Moore. That is, the "trickster" is the dark/shadow side of the "magician". The benefits of the "trickster" are not actually the benefits of the trickster...they are actually the benefits of the mature magician: the shaman. To be clear, yes, Robert Moore revised the terminology to draw out a more robust picture than Jung regarding this particular topic.

      @@ericdodson2644 Absolutely Eric, Satoshi is the ultimate trickster. Frankly, I'm actually currently writing a piece on it. Still doing research, but it maps really well with e.g. the Prometheus story. That's also taking technology out of the hands of gods/authorities and bringing it back to the people (and paying a certain price for it).
      And I also like the Steve Jobs (another trickster) analogy here where he had to explain in the 70s that the computer was the bicycle for the mind. He came up with that after reading an article on human locomotion not being the greatest among animals. But the human on a bike did have superior locomotive efficiency.
      Conclusion: humans are tool builders, which the Greeks knew already, portrayed in the trickster myth of Prometheus.

    It's pretty interesting that the trickster's motiff around the concept of playfulness and sort of humoring life reminds me of a Allan watts when he speaks about humouring life in a taoist sense... I also makes me think and compare the ideas of Western Philosophy versus Eastern Philosophy: The rational vs poetic and playful. (finite vs infinite) Where the goal of rationality is to arrive at a logical conclusion rather than playing with words, meaning, metaphors, and reality to shape our philosophical conclusions.

    • @treyGivens1
      @treyGivens1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would like to wager in on this to see the reply but I might be able to offer insight as well. The answer is it depends. Some Archetypes in particular do sometimes seem to be able to manifest in an individual. I do believe the more trauma one experiences the more likely one is to display a domineering archetype and even fall under “archetypal possession.” I do believe if humans were able to become more conscious we might be able to fluently harness different archetypal energies without succumbing to possession. Archetypal possession occurs when one’s ego is identified with an archetype which leads to lack of conscious awareness. You don’t want this to happen. You can think of it light selling your soul to the devil. Sure you may gain knowledge, abilities, and power but lose your humanity in the process. You want to develop a conscious relationship with archetypes through dialogue/reflection which takes time diligence and consistent effort.

    • @ericdodson2644
      @ericdodson2644  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, I'd say that the main thing is simply to fall thoroughly in love with language. When that happens, it's pretty easy to develop a broad, expansive vocabulary. That's because... when you're in love with language, new words and phrases become pregnant with a kind of magic. And at that point, they aren't merely tools... but more like old friends, each with its own distinct personality. For me, the journey has also involved studying Latin & Greek when I was young, which helped me to develop a sense for etymology. But as a musician, I'm also very sensitive to the melodies, harmonies and rhythms that run through words. And so I tend to hear language as a form of music. But... I'm sure that there are many other paths. The trick is to find the one that suits you, which for most of us is an ever-evolving process. In any case, good luck with that journey... and thanks once again for your time & attention. Eric D.
