So I gotten a Sony VAIO from my friend's family who didn't want it to go to a landfill and boy let me tell you, this thing is very fascinating. The fact that this machine is almost 2 decades old but it still works flawlessly (objectively because the thing boots, the battery still holds a charge though 10 minutes isn't exactly great, the display still lets you see what's up though the polarizing film has certainly seen age, and the IDE hard drive still works). When I disassembled this bad boy and discovered that it had a socketed CPU, it was mind-blowing for me because you can't even find a laptop in today's time that lets you upgrade the CPU. Laptops of that era truly are built different, some of them are durable as hell and still work to this very day while 'gaming laptops' you find today can have their batteries die as early as 1 year even with a lot of care, and that's already with the fact that these older laptops do generate a ton of heat. That aside, have you tried running a later version of Minecraft on that laptop to see how the performance is? I have a modern-ish laptop that has an i3-5005U that runs Arch Linux and it does run Minecraft decently with Sodium and some other optimization mods but I never really tried the server side of things, it's mostly used as a school laptop so I can't really make it run a Minecraft server at the moment and it sucks that I can't upgrade the CPU on that thing to maybe an i5 or heck an i7.
I had once gotten my hands on a really old Fujitsu Scaleo 600 for free. The thing had a 2.6GHz single Core Pentium 4, 2GB of ram and ran on WinXP. I then modded a big ass modern BeQuiet tower cooler to fit the old socket, overclocked the snot out of the machine and had it run as a Minecraft Server 24/7 ever since. Obviously the experience was rather choppy even with just 2 people online. So every time I managed to find new parts I upgraded the old Fujitsu internally, but kept the late 90s vibe with the big white case, floppy drive, etc. By now I've gone past a Core2 Q6600 and am running a 4th gen i5. With obvious improvements to performance, energy efficiency and overall stability. Have also started running a Terraria, Starbound and mumble server all on the same machine and it is also being used as redundant network storage for my other pcs. So yeah, old shit-boxes running servers rock!

can we have the link for the mineos download pls
drive.google.com/file/d/1bGdzts_oC76MECdV1pP6rXlhMooMYjGD/view?usp=drive_link
@@XVoltProductions thank you man
I will make a vid wen I have finished it at
@Steamengingsarecool
Are the CPU's in those laptops socketed, if so, that's really interesting. Most laptops have their CPU's soldered to their motherboards. Nice work!
mhm! it wasn't unusual for laptops in the late 2000s to have socketed processors
Can you make the server accessible for cracked user?
I'm not sure if there's a setting for that, you'd have to ask the creator of mineos
@@XVoltProductions ok
How did you get MineOS? I've been looking for it, but the link comes up "broken".
I just put the download link I used in the description a bit ago
Thanks @@XVoltProductions
