  • [ENABLE CAPTIONS!] In this video I am showing how to build ultra cheap ultrasound Dictaphone / Microphone jammer to protect your privacy against unauthorized recording or eavesdropping during business meetings etc... Whole device costs less than 30 USD and is very simple. Please notice that commercial solutions giving the same jamming results cost 10-50 times higher and I am giving you this solution for free. So plz reward me with a LIKE at least :-)
The ultrasound audio jammer / audio recording blocker - is composed of :
    - Arduino DIGISPARK ATTINY85 based unit or Arduino Pro / Nano / Mini etc - both versions of solution available (6 USD),
    - Audio power amplification module PAM8403 (1 USD),
    - Signal Generator board AD9833 ( 3 USD )
    - set of 10-20 ultrasound transducers for 25kHz ( 10 units cost 10 USD).
If constructed properly the jamming range is up to 10 meters (conference rooms) in closed areas for most low end chineese surveillance devices. PAM8403 module gives 6 Watt of audio output power on 25kHz but it can be replaced with any other like PAM8610 for 2x10Watt output. No additional programmers are needed ( ARDUINO DIGISPARK is programmed over USB from Arduino framework on Windows/Linux/Mac)
Whole project data can be found here : github.com/mcore1976/antispy-...

    ARDUINO Nano/Mini/Pro version

    raw.githubusercontent.com/mco...
The ARDUINO with AD8933 generates pulse wave with 25kHZ center frequency which is randomly changed within +/- 2kHz area to achieve white noise. This white noise leaks to hearable frequencies 100-5000Hz and overloads hidden microphones. You may hear this noise in my video..
Please notice that there are some hi-fi microphones that may not be jammed with this device - especially these with several microphones and software echo cancellation. There is never 100% effectiveness but this device may suppress huge range of recording devices (voice assistants, dictaphones, wiretaps, audio recorders, cell phones, tablets, laptops, hidden cameras, gsm bugs, laser microphones, direction microphones etc.) In the video I am showing how the device works for two different phones in the video - cheap and expensive one - you may compare its efficiency.
If you are businessman or politician conducting some negotiations this kind of device is must have for you to protect your privacy by protecting your private conversation and secure your business.

option 2 is almost the same as option one. The difference is that Arduino IDE has probably better random number generator which is a base for the white noise frequency

I rebuilt it, works fine with 20T but not on modern phones (especially iPhones) as you mentioned it. Would more power make it more effective? Or would it be more effective if I increase the amount of transducers? Any advice on what I could try, which Hardware I could buy, etc.? Thank you very much btw. yes, please use PAM8610 and 2x40 transducers for better effect. Remember that this PAM version needs to be powered from higher voltage than AD9833 & Arduino. You will need also voltage converter for these boards
You may also try to build two jammers and switch them on at the same moment for better efficiency

Could you please make a video setting up the pro/micro/nano configuration? I am unable to get it to work using your diagram. The code uploads fine (I’ve tried nano and micro), and everything is breadboarded as you have it. I have even lined up the polarity of the transducers. I have used many different PAMs, two different 9833s, and multiple microcontrollers with no success. I promise I’m not an idiot. Is there a major consideration I’m missing? All devices are going to the same ground and to the same voltage source at 5v. I have mostly tried building this with a nano. Thank you!

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but at the output of any PAM840x the outputs are direct current, when connecting the transformer coil wouldn't I be closing a short on them since to move the transformer coil it would be necessary alternating current at the output?

    • @justanengineer5599

the winding of transformer always has some inductance like ordinary speaker for example. If the winding has 4Ohm like the speaker it would fit the PAM840x output

If I only use transducers on a single output of the amplifier, the interference in common devices is less and in the iphone there is no interference.
If I use transducers on the two outputs of the amplifier, the interference is total in common devices, it only interferes with the iphone if I get very close to the transducers, about 5CM of proximity, when it passes more than that, it stops interfering.
with speaker and transducers, it interferes well in common devices, at a short distance (1 meter), in the iphone it only interferes if you are also 5cm away from the iphone it only records the noise generated together with the voice having a result (it can if you listen to the being said with noise generated by the speaker in the background).
OBS: the oscillation is correct apparently all the circuit and recording of the atinny was correct, I watched videos of similar devices, with transducers and loudspeaker and in the videos they work correctly on the iphone however the sound emitted by the loudspeaker seems more like radio hiss outside the station, because this signal generated in your code, the noise seems very different from hiss and is audible to the point of being annoying if it is above half the potentiometer adjustment.

It is less effective for iphones, they are using some advanced noise canceling software. I would sugest to built two jamming units and switch them on at the same time. I have also found that some of the ultrasonic transducers may have different polarity than marked (causing canceling of the signal by opposite phase) and it may significantly degrade the performance of the jammer.
Unfortunatelly I do not have an iphone to play with it so I am unable to improve this design at the moment.

check the circuit because something is wrong there. The Digital to analog Converter is incorrectly build. You have some missing connection or some shortage. It does not work the same way as my prototype. The program has been uploaded succesfully but the problem is with connectivity of resistors. Check it 3 times it should be built exactly like this : github.com/mcore1976/antispy-jammer/blob/main/antispy-jammer-enhanced-schematic.png pay attention to the points where resistors are connected. Currently either you are getting the signal from single bit of DAC or this DAC is not working well because the resistor ladder is connected wrong way
Here you have the explanation how DAC is built www.electronics-tutorials.ws/combination/r-2r-dac.html
look for the picture "4-bit R-2R Resistive Ladder Network"

(they are using transducers to send FM modulated signal and the speaker for high tones AM modulated signal random noise on 25kHz bearer frequency. The combination of both techniques apparently gives the best results. I will see if I can get AM modulation on transducers instead of the speaker)

    • @justanengineer5599
      @justanengineer5599  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, I did some changes in the source code to my initial PoC version ( the one without AD9833 but with resistor ladder based Digital to Analog Converter) by sending not only FM modulated square pulses but also with AM modulation (amplitude of the pulse is random as well) :
      The source code : raw.githubusercontent.com/mcore1976/antispy-jammer/main/main7.c
The compilation batch file for Linux : raw.githubusercontent.com/mcore1976/antispy-jammer/main/compileattiny85v3
      The diagram : github.com/mcore1976/antispy-jammer/blob/main/antispy-jammer-enhanced-schematic.png
      The prototype : freeimage.host/i/HYOoeJ1
It looks like it has slightly better effectivenes on newest phones. However I think that using transducers instead of normal speaker for AM modulated signal is bad idea. that is why the combination of both should be used - 25kHz transducers for FM noise modulated and 25kHZ speaker for AM modulated 25kHz carrier
When using transducers they have to be oriented exactly the way the microphone is placed. That may not be the case for the speaker, maybe it covers wider area

would it be possible to change the source of the newest one that made using the AD9833 so that it did this AM function with a speaker working with the other transducer so I think the effectiveness would be greater?

    • @justanengineer5599
      @justanengineer5599  ปีที่แล้ว +1

unfortunately not, the AD9833 chip does not have audio power regulation. You can only set the wave type and frequency and phase. No possibility to adjust the power... That is why I have used my old design to validate the concept with amplitude modulation.
We need to put additional digital potentiometer to use it with AD9833. If you have high tone speaker you may also test it if this helps with iPhones.

if you have a transformer there you could put it between an output of the PAM8406 and your Transducer Matrix. The point is that piezzoelectric transducers are mostly driven by the voltage not the current. You need some small transformer from the old power adaptor. The low voltage circuit should be connected to the PAM module and the 220V/110V circuit should be connected to the transducers. This way you amplify the voltage on the transducers. Measure the voltage before connecting transducers. They have some voltage limit and it may be around 100-150volts. It will give you enough power to jam the iphones

instead of transducers you connect 2 pins of low voltage winding of the transformer. 2 High voltage winding pins of the same transformer you connect to the transducers. As simple as that. Remember that PAM840x output is around 10V so the output of the transformer will give you 100-200 Volts. 60-80 volts on transducers will give you outstanding power of jamming
EDIT: JUST CHECKED THAT THESE CHINESE TRANSDUCERS HAVE MAX INPUT VOLTAGE 60V !!!! BE CAREFUL AND FIND PROPER TRANSFORMER WITH 1 TO 6 RATIO !
Transformer 220v to 48v would be just fine because it has 1:5 ratio
Remember not to exceed 60-80 Volts on transducers

it looks like the iphone needs to be exactly in the line of sight of the transducer. Single transducer has around 30 degrees of beaming angle and when you are movin the iphone it looks like it is no longer in the center of the beam. I'm just wandering what would happen if these transducers would be packed more dense and if it could improve the jamming characteristics. Meanwhile i will try to work on the code in free time, maybe improving pseudo random base for the frequency generation and phase would make it more effective. Anyway it looks like the jammer is presenting an outstanding performance for most of the Android phones. In my tests I see it jamms almost everything in the range of 5 meters does not matter if it is an android phone or android based tablet. Also these phones do not have to be placed in the line of sight of the transducer matrix.

In order for this project to be as effective as possible, you need to add an Acoustic Noise Generator designed to blend the voices and prevent the recordings from being clean. This would have an effect on apple devices and cell phones that have a noise reduction system, the most important question is how to create this acoustic generator as they are used in the most modern products as an example: th-cam.com/video/dy9U9BbFXYs/w-d-xo.html
which uses in addition to the 25khz transducers, they use a speaker with an acoustic generator causing iphones to record only distortions and echoes instead of voices.

you would probably have to use modulator on 25kHz sourced by AD9833 generator.
I think the SIMPLEST solution would be to put the Digital potentiometer between AD9833 module and PAM8403 module and then steer this potentiometer with RANDOM values of amplification setting (via SPI BUS from Attiny). that would easily do the job of random modulation
