I grew up on all of those foods (glad pigs' feet wasn't on this list - I couldn't even be in the house when my Grandmother made them!), and I tried haggis when I visited Scotland. It was like eating an old, familiar favorite; I loved it! I wish we could get the real thing here in the States.

      I live in the area where liver mush is made. It’s very very good. I have been the Scotland and have eaten haggis. It was fine, but liver mush is much better. This guy shouldn’t be so negative.

    Honestly the only scary thing about frog legs is forgetting to cut the tendons. The legs jump right out of the pot if they aren't cut.

      @Christopher Hendricks I think it's live dissection that are banned. Those were pre-skinned and cleaned frog legs. But you could still tug on the different muscles with tweezers to see how the system works.

    Louisiana eats alligator, chicken livers and frog legs pretty regularly. The cake is not anything bad. I was waiting for hogshead cheese or something else.

      Yeah, tastes a little fishy, but much like the frog legs, because the meat comes mostly from the tail of the gator, tastes like chicken breast since it's the same kind of white meat.

    As a Southerner, I don’t get how any of this is scary. Alligator is delicious. Get some chicken feet, hog head cheese, neckbone and rice, pickled pigs feet, etc. I guess my upbringing was far more rural South than I realized. 😂

      I cannot eat anything I’ve had as a pet and been very attached to
      So no frogs no dogs no cats
      I have had pet rabbits and I did eat a rabbit as I was curious why people in the UK have always been eating these. After trying one it was awful. There was barely any meat and the vegetables I roasted and garlic and sautéed were way better then the rabbit

      Pear salad with cottage cheese and some mayo/Miracle Whip is how my grandparents made pear salad. I loved this as a kid. We also used peaches.

      My folks made pear salad with canned, drained pears and cottage cheese. I'll eat most anything, but cottage cheese that has been thinned with fruit juice is for people stronger than I. I can't even fathom using mayonnaise. Deep-fried chicken liver? Yes, please! Gator and frog's legs? Absolutely!

      Lol, it's usually called liver pudding on the packaging, which doesn't sound a whole lot better.
      It's delicious though! Fry it up crispy, and put it on a biscuit, with a slice of tomato and a little bit of mustard.

    We had pear or pineapple salad every week when I was growing up-nothing at all scary about those! But I do want to know, who in the world said “liver mush” is a Southern food???

      It is a southern food. It's cousin, scrapple, is a more northern food. Livermush has to be at least 30% liver were scrapple doesn't. Both were derived from the German settlers along the Appalachian mountain areas from New York to Alabama.

      So I looked it up and found that it is popular mainly in western North Carolina. I was born in Tennessee and raised in Alabama, and I’d never heard of it before-even though many of my great-grandmother’s German cuisine was passed down in our family. Her people were from North Carolina, so she probably served this.

      Pear salad was always at church dinners, ot Sunday dinner, some people put cottage cheese instead if mayo, sometimes cherries but not always. We had this often at home, along with carrot salad, (shredded carrots, mayo, a little sugar, raisins). Desserts were buttermilk pie, biscuit pudding, pound cake, pecan pie, banana pudding. Great Southern food. Also fried chicken gizzards, although I never liked them. Biscuits every day, breakfast and supper, cornbread, too, and a lot of black-eyed peas.

    There is a seafood restaurant not far from my house and one night a week they have frog legs as their special. They keep doing it so they must sell well.

    They used to have a fried alligator stand at Texas Renaissance Festival (dunno if they still do). I really liked it the few times I got to eat there. =)

    I cannot believe you guys did not have fried Spam and eggs! My husband loved that but I wouldn't make it very often because he shouldn't have it, lol. Unfortunately "They" have done something to Spam and it doesn't taste right anymore. I won't even buy for my emergency foods now.

      We had these in school all the time but without lettuce. We always got a slice of bread on that day & in elementary school I would use the mayo & cheese to make me a cheese sandwich. I ate the pear alone after wiping all the Mayo off of it. What ever works, right? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I remember camping with my older sibs in the ozarks, at the Shut-Ins, and they went frog gigging at night. We had some frog legs and scrambled eggs fir breakfast. Yum.

      gizzards usually come with the livers, at least the way my Grandma did it. I like a plate of livers and homemade biscuits every once in a while. Some sliced tomatoes on the side and a glass of iced tea is hard to beat.

    As a transplant from California to the South, I too was introduced to some crazy food. Frog legs and alligator are delicious. The pear salad was interesting and at so many get together food events. Chicken livers, 🤢.

    Southerner here...none of these were scary, pretty much a large portion of my diet growing up. Get some Rocky Mountain oysters, pickled pigs feet, rattlesnake, chicken feet, cow tongue, or hog tail, etc.
    Come to think of it, That's not scary either. I guess we don't have any scary food here, except maybe Spam on a cold day...
