If you ever get a chance check out the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana. Never before or sense in my life have I stepped in a men's room, looked around in astonishment, and pulled out my camera and taken pictures. That room, like the whole building, is an Art Deco masterpiece.
@@JeffDeWitt That does sound pretty, but are there so many toilets in impeccable condition that no one, not even on the ladies' side, has to wait for an open stall even on a holiday weekend or major football event? Plus, the stall doors go down to the floor so they put occupancy lights on them since you can't see shoes. Truly fabulous.

I ranked all the public toilets in my area when I was little. I liked the one at the main branch of the bank you had to go upstairs and down the hall with it's plush carpet. And it was the nicest bathroom. And then it was the one at federal building aka the post office and federal court etc. And it was upstairs and down the hall. But it was so clean because people barely used it though it did look over 60 years old but well taken care of. I also liked the ones at the drug emporium because most people don't know they have a bathroom. And it smells nice and they use the nice hand soap from off the shelf. Then there's academy it's mostly used by the employees and they keep it nice. So my point is my most like bathrooms where mostly not used by the public and I found out where they where by looking for them and asking questions.

I’ve gotten out of it because even though I live here it gets confusing when my family travels because then they bring you a coke but you wanted a Dr Pepper so now I just have to say soda🙄

They are the only one in Texas (or this far south) that serves it. I can't remember the brand, but it is my favorite, and it's not Blue Bell. Although, I love Blue Bell...ESPECIALLY Tin Roof!
I am a Texan and I support this video. Things I would have added are Blue Bell, Dr. Pepper, Six Flags, Houston Rodeo, Nasa, the size of everything (things really are bigger in Texas), Big Tex icon for the State Fair of Texas, and of course the incredible Buc-ee's restrooms! Not to mention we have the largest renaissance festival in the entire country and we were once our OWN country! The list can go on and on. There is a reason us Texas are proud of our state.
I couldn't believe my Yankee husband didn't have a whole year of state history in school. Like- Texas History was a FULL year, and we never finished the textbook

I was stationed at Fort Bliss (El Paso for those not familiar withTexas) in Sept. to Nov. 1968, what a culture shock for the Jerseyman. Hated the high desert, food and you name it, sure I would NEVER live in Texas again. Fast forward to 1979, visited a friend of mine who lived in Houston. Found April to have died and gone to heaven weather by the end of May my family and I had purchased a home in nearby Sugar Land. We have been here ever since and do not have the inclination to move. We enjoy the folks, culture, geography (even El Paso). Went to a priest several years ago and confessed my sin of disparaging Texas, I was forgiven but am still doing 43 Hail Mary’s a day as my penance. Buc-ee’s the biggest cleanest restroom’s on the road. Nothing else to add Jennifer done good.

One of my daughters was born in NJ, the other in RI when I was stationed there, my wife and I were born in NJ. The only native born Texan is my grandson. I find it interesting in my world travels that nearly everyone i encounter in other countries has some knowledge of Texas, not so of NJ or RI.

@@Eye_of_a_Texan Never had allergies until I moved to Texas. For many years my suffering began between the last week of September and the first week of October, lasted until November. Three years ago the allergies stopped, no problems since then. My wife still has problems around the same time but one steroid shot when allergies begin is enough to carry her through to November.
Since I moved here one of the big things I noticed is how Texans pull together in times of need and disaster. Big hearts, helping hands.... and Mattress Mac ❤❤❤❤
I thought for sure she was going to call back to HEB on that what with the Texas shaped tortilla chips and the Texas on just about everything. You'll be hard pressed to walk out of an HEB without a Texas or a Texas flag on something you buy.
I grew up in south carolina before moving to Texas. We had one dairy queen in a 30 mile radius and they served food but we thought that was so weird because we only went there for ice cream
Oh, you reminded me of the Great Texas Dairy Queen Rebellion, when the headquarters decided that it was going to coordinate all the many franchises so that they all sold the same thing, and the Texas franchise holders said "Are you crazy? There will be blood on the streets if there's no Hungr-Buster or Chicken Fried Steak Fingers or DQ tacos" and DQ HQ thought about how they didn't want to be responsible for yet another bloody resistance movement in Texas when they could just have money instead, and so the special Texas menu was saved. Hallelujah amen.

I’m so proud to be born and raised in Texas! I live in the same small town that several generations of my family lived and lives in..this is all sooo true! Had Tex mex for dinner with Texas shaped tortilla chips from HEB..now my grandson is playing in his Buccees tent with his Buccee toy. The weather was like spring all day and tonight it’s 30 degrees with 30 mph north winds! Hmm now I think I need a blizzard from DQ!

what surprised me when moving to texas was that my kids also said a texas pledge of allegiance to school. they learn texas songs and texas flags are everywhere. i love it

When Blue Bell had to quit sales because of that kid licking it, it was like a recession. We had people lining up at stores to get the ice cream when it came back xD
Born and bred 5th generation Texan here. We have our own distinct style of sauce. We don’t cook our meats on sauce but we do eat them with sauce so I don’t know what she means haha. It’s important to remember with TexMex (a lot of Texans don’t even realize this), that most Mexican food in America and a lot of the world goes through a Texan filter. Chances are, the Mexican you’ve had has serious TexMex influence. Please keep her around to represent us in future videos!!!

LOVED this video - well done, Jennifer. I'm a 5th generation Texan. You did a great job describing our state. I'd add Dr Pepper (invented here!), getting kolaches in West, the vast scenery (including beaches, the hill country, Palo Duro canyon, all the wide-open spaces, the piney woods, etc. etc. Love it.
I'm originally from the West Coast, but I took my family to Texas while I was in grad school. We spent 8 years in Texas and two of our children were born there. All of my kids think of themselves as Texans. We moved away a year and a half ago for a job. We miss it. God bless Texas.
Definitely needs to be a series. To add to the things others said that should be in it: Chicken Fried Steak!! The Great State Fair of Texas, where anything can be deep fried. "Howdy!" The sheer size; the fact that you can drive for 8 hours and still be in Texas. Good video! Gig 'Em!

@@billstephens396Years ago I had a Dr Pepper made in a neighboring state that was simply dreadful. I love that state very much and don't hold any hard feelings but, Dr Peppers made there tasted like stale bayou water.
@@billstephens396 Nothing really other than the water. Dublin DP was a different animal and used real sugar, but was limited to where they could be distributed. As a result DP/Snapple shut them down. They changed the name to Dublin Bottling Works and the Dublin 1891 Red Cola is basically Dublin DP.
I am not from Texas. But I did move to Texas in Aug of 2020. And it really is a culture all of it's own. I visited for the first time in March of 2020 just before everything went on lockdown and my first time inside of Bucc-ee's was nothing short of magical. Oh, and I now work at HEB. C:

Already mentioned, but missed Blue Bell. Also, the "six flags" are from the six nations that governed Tejas at some point. Which you get from public school Texas history classes.
And if you want to teach in this great state you take a college class on Texas history. I was privileged to take it at Texas Tech from Ernst Wallace who wrote many books and was a brilliant story teller.
Oh Chuck Norris I almost forgotten about him. When I was young he was the person I always seemed to run into at the HEB. I would recognize his cart first because it always had the same things in it. No I didn't ask for his autograph I had a neighbor down the road that was in Bonanza so I didn't think it odd to run into tv stars. My mom always said we had soap opera stars in the area but since I don't watch never noticed them at the store.
You left out the language. We have our own. I can't count the number of times a non Texan has scratched their head trying to figure out what's broken when I say "I'm fixin' to....."

@@ianbat7092 Mums are DEFINITELY still a thing! My niece is a sophomore in high school in the Dallas area and they still give and get mums, and they are as big as texas, I mean MASSIVE! Back in my high school days it was about the number of mums you got, now it’s the size.
They are definitely still a thing in the suburbs of Dallas and Houston. I love seeing my Facebook lights up with my friends little siblings and their ridiculous mums. I remember mine was decorated mostly with candies and glitter. I ate the candies and probly a little of the glitter lol.
I remember my first trip to visit my husband's family in Texas. We were at the store in the small town his family lived in and I was like " wow there is so many tourist in this town everyone has UT shirts or flags ...he said "not tourist we are just real proud of our state. Yep, it's real!
Being an expat, here's what people that I know don't understand about Texans: bluebonnet season, kolaches, big freeways, big trucks, big Halloween yard decorations, lots of tamales at Christmas, and even BIGGER Christmas yard decorations
I was born (1966) and grew up in Texas (Odessa and Abilene) and have sadly lived away from my great State since 1995, but I will tell you right now, if someone disses Texas, the chip on my shoulder is so huge with pride, I will put them in their place about it! I've lived in Alabama since 1999 and married my beloved Husband in 2005 and the MAIN THING he will tell anyone is that he's proud I'm a Texan. Oh, and don't dare say anything bad about it cause she will school you. And, luckily, there is a BBQ place where we live that serves "low and slow and no sauce" brisket. Still not the same though. I miss Texas, sigh....
Hey y’all from Lindale, TX!! I only recently got grafted into Texas, and I am constantly amazed and thankful that I get to live in the most amazing state in the US! Literally, I wake up every morning and thank the Lord I get to live here! In the short time I have lived here, I have acquired a healthy dose of Texas pride, let me tell ya! I think it’s contagious!
If you say "the taco truck" in Austin, you're possibly referring to one of about 800 spots. Shout out to Santa Barbacha, just had them for the first time last Friday. The barbacoa breakfast taco with eggs, potato, and avocado was amazing.
Her list is great! Could add the State Fair of Texas, it’s something else, and big of course! The continental US is often divided into geographical regions like north, south, east and west (and each can be further subdivided). In which one do we Texans consider ourselves to belong? Trick question, none! Texas is just Texas, we’re our own region. ❤️
A good BBQ joint also needs a screen door that has a spring to slam it shut (no hydraulic closers allowed) and a flyswatter hanging inside on the wall next to said door.

I have driven across the the state so I don't know how I've missed it, but I've never even seen one. As a person who travels in an RV, Texas is very generous in providing places to stay. Heck, it can take me 2 months just traveling from one city park to another before I reach a border.

We say the weather changes every five minutes because it’s kinda true. Have you ever had to carry a thick coat around just because it was cold for the one hour bus ride that increasing started to climb it’s way up to 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit? Edit: to only find out that during the time that you were in school it was a nice day but then when you step outside after school ends it starts to rain?

I can honestly say, I was made in Texas. I too was in the band in high school our colors were purple and gold. We would take our roller skates and skate at the dance Pavillion. My dad grew up in Hondo and did his airforce stint at Lackland. Blue bells in bloom everywhere! True that true bbq is low and slow, anything else is just a cookout.
If you are a hard head west Texan that siren just means go look at the sky like my husband does. My kin riding out hurricanes are just as bad. Great grandma rode out the 1900 storm in a tree according family legend.
Transplant Texan here. Been in the Houston area now 8 years, and Bucees & H-E-B are standard in this house. Every time we have a trip it’s Bucees and we grocery shop at H-E-B. Great work on the presentation here.
Just recently move to BCS from the coast... nearly walking distance to Kyle field! Love it around here on game day...and Im not even a football fan! Though I do wish there was more Texas beach representation!!!
Yup! I’m a BIN (Born In Nacogdoches) and the pride of being a BIN is enormous! The oldest town in Texas, home of the Stone Fort, and brick streets downtown. And the weather? It was 70 the day before we got 8 inches of snow this week.
We've got 10 different ecological regions, 3 biomes, and 2 time zones. Then we have the largest military base in the free world (Ft Hood), our own power grid, Bluebell, Dr.Pepper, Shiner, Texas Country/Red Dirt music, Johnson Space Center, Palo Durham Canyon (2nd only to the grand canyon), the Texas Navy, and the list could go on and on. Suffice it to say God blessed Texas. 👆Guns up!
My aunt's husband's job transferred them to another state. Before they moved she bought a Texas pendant and wore it every day. She said, "if ever I'm in some horrible accident and they can't identify my body at least they will know to send what is left to Texas."
I've been learning English on Cambly and I have a Texan tutor. And I'm saying that he's like the nicest tutor I've met up to now (I've worked with 24 tutors so far). He's very serious with his teaching job, spending lots of time to improve his lessons and support students even when it's his days off. Not many English tutors/teachers would do the same thing I say. I mean to work with their whole heart.

Houston has one of the oldest craft beers in Texas, Saint Arnold's, established in 1994. Of course there's many others. Beer and BBQ, Texas staples. Ohhh and Dr. Pepper. Perhaps you should do a part 2? Texas is so diverse. We have everything and everything IS BIGGER in Texas. 🤠

Hated the high desert, food and you name it, sure I would NEVER live in Texas again. Fast forward to 1979, visited a friend of mine who lived in Houston. Found April to have died and gone to heaven weather by the end of May my family and I had purchased a home in nearby Sugar Land. We have been here ever since and do not have the inclination to move. We enjoy the folks, culture, geography (even El Paso). Went to a priest several years ago and confessed my sin of disparaging Texas, I was forgiven but am still doing 43 Hail Mary’s a day as my penance. Buc-ee’s the biggest cleanest restroom’s on the road. Nothing else to add Jennifer done good.

One of my daughters was born in NJ, the other in RI when I was stationed there, my wife and I were born in NJ. The only native born Texan is my grandson. I find it interesting in my world travels that nearly everyone i encounter in other countries has some knowledge of Texas, not so of NJ or RI.

@@Eye_of_a_Texan Never had allergies until I moved to Texas. For many years my suffering began between the last week of September and the first week of October, lasted until November. Three years ago the allergies stopped, no problems since then. My wife still has problems around the same time but one steroid shot when allergies begin is enough to carry her through to November.

Oh, you reminded me of the Great Texas Dairy Queen Rebellion, when the headquarters decided that it was going to coordinate all the many franchises so that they all sold the same thing, and the Texas franchise holders said "Are you crazy? There will be blood on the streets if there's no Hungr-Buster or Chicken Fried Steak Fingers or DQ tacos" and DQ HQ thought about how they didn't want to be responsible for yet another bloody resistance movement in Texas when they could just have money instead, and so the special Texas menu was saved. I’m so proud to be born and raised in Texas! I live in the same small town that several generations of my family lived and lives in..this is all sooo true! Had Tex mex for dinner with Texas shaped tortilla chips from HEB..now my grandson is playing in his Buccees tent with his Buccee toy. The weather was like spring all day and tonight it’s 30 degrees with 30 mph north winds! Hmm now I think I need a blizzard from DQ!

Born and bred 5th generation Texan here. We have our own distinct style of sauce. We don’t cook our meats on sauce but we do eat them with sauce so I don’t know what she means haha. It’s important to remember with TexMex (a lot of Texans don’t even realize this), that most Mexican food in America and a lot of the world goes through a Texan filter. Chances are, the Mexican you’ve had has serious TexMex influence. Please keep her around to represent us in future videos!!!

I'm originally from the West Coast, but I took my family to Texas while I was in grad school. We spent 8 years in Texas and two of our children were born there. All of my kids think of themselves as Texans. We moved away a year and a half ago for a job. We miss it. God bless Texas.

@@billstephens396Years ago I had a Dr Pepper made in a neighboring state that was simply dreadful. I love that state very much and don't hold any hard feelings but, Dr Peppers made there tasted like stale bayou water.
@@billstephens396 Nothing really other than the water. Dublin DP was a different animal and used real sugar, but was limited to where they could be distributed. As a result DP/Snapple shut them down. They changed the name to Dublin Bottling Works and the Dublin 1891 Red Cola is basically Dublin DP.
I am not from Texas. But I did move to Texas in Aug of 2020. And it really is a culture all of it's own. I visited for the first time in March of 2020 just before everything went on lockdown and my first time inside of Bucc-ee's was nothing short of magical. Oh, and I now work at HEB. C:

They are definitely still a thing in the suburbs of Dallas and Houston. I love seeing my Facebook lights up with my friends little siblings and their ridiculous mums. I remember mine was decorated mostly with candies and glitter. I ate the candies and probly a little of the glitter lol.

I remember my first trip to visit my husband's family in Texas. We were at the store in the small town his family lived in and I was like " wow there is so many tourist in this town everyone has UT shirts or flags ...he said "not tourist we are just real proud of our state. Yep, it's real!

I was born (1966) and grew up in Texas (Odessa and Abilene) and have sadly lived away from my great State since 1995, but I will tell you right now, if someone disses Texas, the chip on my shoulder is so huge with pride, I will put them in their place about it! I've lived in Alabama since 1999 and married my beloved Husband in 2005 and the MAIN THING he will tell anyone is that he's proud I'm a Texan. Oh, and don't dare say anything bad about it cause she will school you. And, luckily, there is a BBQ place where we live that serves "low and slow and no sauce" brisket. Still not the same though. I miss Texas, sigh....

Hey y’all from Lindale, TX!! I only recently got grafted into Texas, and I am constantly amazed and thankful that I get to live in the most amazing state in the US! Literally, I wake up every morning and thank the Lord I get to live here! In the short time I have lived here, I have acquired a healthy dose of Texas pride, let me tell ya! I think it’s contagious!
We just call it "THE Taco Truck" Everybody has that one place in town they know has the best mexican food
My go to tacos is my local gas station, not a taco truck.

If you say "the taco truck" in Austin, you're possibly referring to one of about 800 spots. Shout out to Santa Barbacha, just had them for the first time last Friday. The barbacoa breakfast taco with eggs, potato, and avocado was amazing.

I can honestly say, I was made in Texas. I too was in the band in high school our colors were purple and gold. We would take our roller skates and skate at the dance Pavillion. My dad grew up in Hondo and did his airforce stint at Lackland. Blue bells in bloom everywhere! True that true bbq is low and slow, anything else is just a cookout.
Texas-ism from a true blooded texan. If the locals aren't looking for shelter when the tornado sirens sound then you are probably going to be fine.
Same for us in Alberta. Usually we sit in the garage and have a beer or continue with what we are doing when we get the tornado warning.

Yup! I’m a BIN (Born In Nacogdoches) and the pride of being a BIN is enormous! The oldest town in Texas, home of the Stone Fort, and brick streets downtown. And the weather? It was 70 the day before we got 8 inches of snow this week.

I’m from Texas. When I left for college, I wore a Texas pendant necklace every single day.
My aunt's husband's job transferred them to another state. Before they moved she bought a Texas pendant and wore it every day. She said, "if ever I'm in some horrible accident and they can't identify my body at least they will know to send what is left to Texas."
I've been learning English on Cambly and I have a Texan tutor. And I'm saying that he's like the nicest tutor I've met up to now (I've worked with 24 tutors so far). He's very serious with his teaching job, spending lots of time to improve his lessons and support students even when it's his days off. Not many English tutors/teachers would do the same thing I say. I mean to work with their whole heart.

Jennifer, BRAVO!! Great list and I agree with you. I'm native Texan from Houston. However you forgot to mention Texas craft beer. Houston has one of the oldest craft beers in Texas, Saint Arnold's, established in 1994. Of course there's many others. Beer and BBQ, Texas staples. Ohhh and Dr. Pepper. Perhaps you should do a part 2? Texas is so diverse. We have everything and everything IS BIGGER in Texas. 🤠
