As musicians sometimes you hear a new group and you get jealous because you wish you’d thought of that. Then there’s something like this that makes you proud to be the same species.
This is how jazz was meant to be played/created. The drummer and pianist not only accompany the soloist but also react and respond to one another. Great band.
It's not necessary to generalize. I believe that Aristos refers to the specific sound experience, which allows him to offer an opinion about one of many ways of interpretation-creation, starting from listening and style.
I wasn’t commenting on structure in any way. I’m referring to the musical conversation that players have with one another in their playing. Call and response. A lot of amateurs don’t realize that what makes jazz interesting is listening and reacting to each other.
Reading the replies, I understand what you are saying: I am a newcomer to Jazz and I love how they seem to be all over the place, I do not like "Bar Jazz" where you know exactly which note follows after because it's a straight type of song, you can even add lyrics and that particular song is going to be almost exactly everytime. I feel more people are into bar jazz as they seem to have a sense of control of what they are going to hear next: on Marks quartet, and this type of jazz, you do not know what is goint to happen next, some people might even say "this is just noise!" hehehe. About this, how do you call this type of "messy" jazz? I want to listen to more musicians like this quartet. Thanks!!!
@@FerMagee Yup, prog introduces a level of complexity in their music that you don't get as much in other genres of metal. Prog using lots modal changes and exotic scales as well as using intricate time signatures.
@@antymon7810 I love everything from Gene Kruppa, Buddy Rich, Zepplin, Ozzy, Rush, Metallica, Pantera, Mudvayne, Prodigy, lol, to Gustavo Dudamel's work as a conductor and this jazz here. It's about context. Music completes my setting, my current frame of mind. I don't want orchestra or jazz if I'm about to walk into a rough area. I want Pantera. But if I'm watching videos on sailing in the Caribbean or gourmet cooking, please, hold the Ozzy. And sometimes, John Carpenters 4"33" is just perfect. :)
I love when a pianist and drummer are just in sync with one another. It’s truly and additional talent to be able to play with a random person you’ve never met and be able to put together a masterpiece without rehearsal.
Good to see Jason is still killing it. He was a guest teacher when I went to college. He was the first person to "free-up" my playing--and get me outta my own head. Awesome player, and a great teacher to boot!
Oh wow, this is really great stuff. Wildly insane Pianist strikes me most but that's probably me coming from the piano side of things as well. What a fantastic band this is! Would love to see them play live one day.
I saw the Mark Guiliana quartet exactly 3 years ago. A superb gig and to say that I was blown away is an understatement! Surely it's not humanly possible to be that tight !!!
This music is in deed beyond everything. Makes me shivering speechless. And - since Mark contributed so beautifully to the last(!) Bowie album - these four are the new Spiders from Mars. Extraterrestially and overwhelmingly awesome. Hardly can stop with my glorifications...:-)
Wow, simplemente increible. Es como Si ese bebbop que amamos en musicos como charlie parker se hubiese negado a envejecer y hoy estivera tan vivo como antes.🎉🎉
Wow what a fresh palette of Jazz, I mean clean raunchy Smooth Disturbing disconnected in the good way that Jazz can make your musical brain to follow complete separation of tempo color mixed sounds your mind thinks are right not that there is anything wrong but yes some of these chord and progression mixes are so fresh u think it will not fit and then its over it did and you knew it was........... Im not speechless and I approve this message.
I am loving you all, and you bring to mind a thought I have always had. I am not a musician so maybe someone could correct me on time signature or something, but I have always seen some jazz in Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix. When your piano gets a going it reminded me of some Jimi Hendrix riffs

Who the heck defined how jazz "is meant to be played"? Assuming there's a given structure to the freeest of all genres is ridiculous

No style of music was meant to be played any way. If that were the case innovation wouldn’t happen man. I know what you mean tho shits fire!

Metal and Jazz fanbases have a surprising fanbase overlap (it's actually not that surprising if you think about it)
Dear TH-cam,
HOW DARE YOU to throw an ad in the middle of a song?!
Uhm, they put the ads in...
Exactly!
Masterful drum play, when the drums enters on the first song is like getting hit by a drum wall. He plays with care and grace.
Simplicity + Complexity + Creativity = Jazz

Yes very tight cues and great coordination.
They fixed it in post production :P
@@agentsteell or they're just good musicians...
sax players head nod
That hi hat sounds amazing. Mark has an absolute control over every single note
Every time an ad break interrupts a song, a puppy dies.
And you have the Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet!! Haven’t watch it! GREAT!!

I'm feeling a heavy Boozoo Bajou influence on the track Jersey, I love it.
Wow, these guys are great. I can just get completely lost in this music. Guess that's what Jazz is all about.
