    Next gen ports are going to be more exciting, but the thing I am way more excited about is what Nintendo's 1st party games will look like with this level of power. Even on lower end hardware, a lot of the switch's library looks amazing. I would love to see how Nintendo could push the hardware further. + Hearing they are already working on an updated version of Breath of the Wild means they are working on bringing the switch's already existing library closer to modern standards. I am so glad Jon mentioned it towards the end, because through this whole video I kept talking to the screen saying things like "How about STRAY?", "You should mention STRAY", "STRAY, STRAY, STRAY!!!".
    The only current gen console I own is a Switch and the game that had me wanting a PS5 (or I guess now an XBox) was STRAY. For me, it is a system seller! I don't like violent photo-realistic games at all. Call Of Duty and the like are a total turn off. I like cute sweet games that are more fun than challenging. So I've never had much reason to buy into the XBox ecosystem at all and although playstation has less of a focus on photo-realistic violence, the games not on the Switch just don't feel compelling enough for me to go $500 in (I buy physical), that is, except for Stray! Framerate unlocking wouldn't be a default feature. They'd have to specifically update games to unlock the framerate, and most of Nintendo's games are stupidly hardcoded to only work at their original framerate. It'd help games reach their targets more often (i.e. less framerate drops) but unless developers specifically update the games, then the maximum framerate will stay the same.

      Publishers are definitely abusing the 1tb standard ssd size on modern consoles, but it's easy to lower file size via compression and lower texture quality. 64gb cartridges are already a thing, so 128gb could be coming with Switch 2. Very few PC games surpass 200gb, so they should all fit on a cartridge with a few reasonable size cuts. MicroSD cards can be found in 1tb capacities as well, so digital games will also fit. The major problem is whether publishers will be willing to take up the cost of such cartridges, and if Nintendo is willing to subsidise their cost, because I avoid physical "internet and storage required" games like the plague.

    The ports and specs are great, but most important is 2 things: 1/ that people understand why this is different than Switch, and 2/ delivering a strong selection of games out the game. I'd happily wait until 2025 if the Switch 2 arrived with a new Mario, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Metroid, Pokemon - at this point i think that's pretty reasonable to ask for too.

    • @Dairunt1
      @Dairunt1 ปีที่แล้ว

      The PS5 Digital costs $400 so I think $400 is just right. I also think the original Switch model will be discontinued and the OLED will drop to $300; once the OLED passes as well they could either release a "Lite" or "TV" model for $300. A "Switch 2 TV" would shake the Series S for sure.
      I can see the Switch Lite surviving next gen at that $200 price; it would be like the Vita, a smaller but very competent indie machine, specially if they bring the Nintendo Selects line for smaller-scope games like Crafted World or Link's Awakening.

    I do think it makes sense; Nintendo abandoned the specs race because there was no "gimmick" to separate it from the competition; having your games with you on the go IS the gimmick, and it's something PlayStation/Xbox can never replicate because they're too invested in x86 architecture. ARM architecture doesn't have the same graphical performance peak but has way better ppw (performance per watt); this low-wattage appproach is the reason why pretty much every mobile device there is uses this architecture, and x86 can't even compare unless you put a big bulky battery in it (like Steam Deck or the ROG Ally). So Nintendo joining the specs race but with ARM architecture instead of x86 makes a lot of sense, as they're the only ones (besides maybe Google or Apple) that could make such a robust library that is also mobile-friendly.
    Also, apparently Nintendo as a company is a huge Apple fanboy as many of their choices in the last 20 years mimick the ones Apple does; and the latest big step Apple made is to ditch Intel's x86 chips to form their own M1/M2 chips that are ARM-based, their batteries last a full day and performance soars, so their new Macbooks, rather than PCs made smaller, are huge tablets with keyboards.

    I would not be surprised if the rumors are true, but I do wonder about battery life which is the main thing I want to know about. I believe the original Switch was a safe play for Nintendo if still a bit experimental. Now that they have seen how successful it was, continuing with that trend with more modern hardware can only extend the life of it.
    I personally bough 3 Switch consoles for myself and my family, so I could see myself doing that again if the price is fair and Nintendo makes the battery life better.

    Skyrim should be ported to the next "Switch". I've only 100% that game on the PS3, PS4, the current Switch, and my treadmill. And they should put a new Nintendo exclusive mode that makes the games easier. It can be called Funky Mode, where you play the game as Funky Kong.

  • @bellowingsilence
    @bellowingsilence ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For something like the Switch 2 with reasonable expectations, I’d be quite satisfied if the console could consistently run modern cross platform level games at a native 1080p using DLSS and similar techniques to cover most of the way up to 4K, not dip under 30fps (but ideally, often give us higher) and otherwise run things with appropriate texture quality and effects for the native resolution level. I think that would be simply enough for most people, and refuse to even hope for more than that from Nintendo. Just… be the company we associate with consistent quality again. Please.

  • @alfo2804

    Capcom were the ones who convinced Nintendo to double the RAM on the original Switch, so I'd say that SF6 is basically guaranteed. They might have even helped provide feedback again for this new console, which may be part of the reason why it sounds so much more powerful and capable than people were expecting.
    Also, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart would definitely be possible. It runs way better on the Steam Deck than Baldur's Gate 3 does. It doesn't actually need an SSD.
