Happy Halloween. As a reminder to those who were there for the stream, as payment for this video we promised to each share the video with at least one person. Don’t forget to do your part
Hey Alicia! Wendigoon has some real good stuff, but my favorite one from him is the Sex Raft Experiment, where a professor from Mexico City wanted to have a raft with complete strangers to get violent, but it mostly ended up with all of strangers becoming friends, while the professor started going crazy
I loved the become-best-friends twist in that story
That's the first Wendigoon video I ever watched. 100% incredible, both the video and the experiment.
My favorite from him is the Mystery Flesh Pit video. I go back to it at least once a month!
I remember that one, the professor kept trying to cause problems and at the end everyone had a good time but thought he was an asshole. Guy was trying to prove his theories right.
I remember that and they all thought he was a creep lmao
Giant squids ARE a thing. And they are the inspiration for the Kraken myth. So it's a very high possibility that they were attacked by one and tried to run away in a panic. That would also explain the scratch marks.
I mean, giant squids can only reliably attack small boats like the one French fishing boat that managed to cut off an arm/tentacle during a fight. And if they were getting attacked it would leave many, manu circular marks not just scratch marks.
A ship that big is not gonna be a target and I would bet that a captain would still not get on a smaller, slower boat to escape it. If the giant squid could even catch up.
A ship is also much more similar to a whale, something giant squids are likely to avoid because sperm whales eat them. Hell the attack on the whaling ship Essex is sometimes attributed to a whale mistaking the Essex for a rival due to the stench of dead whales clinging to it.
Hey Alicia, before November ends you should watch Over The Garden Wall. Its a very short autumnal show with both dark and wholesome elements and I really think you'd like it!
Great series
Yes please!
It's a wonderful show with super unique atmosphere
Absolutely. It’s been so long, I’d love to watch it with someone
The Angels have Gone, Songs have gone Silent~
God OTGW is such an amazing series and with such beautiful music
Yesss
The ghost ship stories remind of Return of the Obra Dinn. Maybe that'd be a better "Alicia is terrified of the ocean" game than Subnautica, because it might just like, make her anxious instead of outright petrified like Subnautica had her.
I second this. Honestly, it’s a pretty chill game compared to Subnautica, and it’s not like you actually go underwater.
Love that game, wish it got a sequel
I found Subnautica extremely relaxing. Especially if you've built a seatruck its just pleasant cruising around. Then again I love swimming underwater in real life. It feels like flying.
Idk, that’s a very difficult game to stream. The act of observing the game and looking for clues is a very niche type of entertainment, especially when watching someone else do the searching.
35:33 that actually happend to me once. I used to sail with a buddy back in the day. One time when we turned our boat and the sail switched sides, it got caught in the back of my life vest and legit threw me overboard. And I'm a hefty guy so I believe that it could happen!
"A boss having less experience that the experienced leader who specializes in that field"
That is exactly what it means when "you can't spell Lost without LT"
The scared of ocean word is thalassophobia.
Easy to remember bc it's the lass phobia... like,
Imagine a an old scottish captain talking to someone about why you can't go out on his fishing boat, he'd say "the lass has a phobia" That's how I remember it anyway... hope it helps.
Wendigoon has so much good content to react to. Glad to see you doing more.
Ah yes, Thalassaphobia.
For the Mary Celeste, the Kraken actually makes sense. Giant Squids are a thing and would be mistaken for a mythical "kraken" and while abandoning ship might seem like a good idea... the life boat was probably a noisy target and easy prey.
@22:10 Which is why it is very important to organize and advocate for workplace democracy!
"The bourgeoisie is blind to the concerns of the working class!"
-Atsuko Kagari, Little Witch Academia
Did that bit at the beginning about plushies sounds like she was trying to sneak ask people to send random fun things to her p.o. box. That's what it sounded like to me 😂
Naw I ain’t being sneaky send shit to my P.O. Box LOLOL but yeah the homie flame sent 999
Happy Halloween Alicia. Love the reactions and love that you're reacting to Wendigoon. He is one of my favorite long form content creators and while he is very entertaining it is hard to watch reactions to his content because of what he talks about but you knock it out of the park. Keep up the good work!
Wendigoon is one of my favourite long video streamers/youtubers
So happy that 999 got a job to protect alicia from da spookiness
For more Wendigoon, I'd like to again suggest "The Spy Who Hilariously Won World War 2". As the name suggests, it's pretty funny and shows some really neat and little-known history; plus, it's only about a half hour long, so you could probably do the whole thing in one go.
I highly recommend some of Wendigoon's history stuff, when he talks about history is usually lesser known stories and they're usually hilarious.
"Detecting multiple Leviathan-class lifeforms in the region. Are you certain, whatever you're doing, is worth ut?"
Hey Felicia, I’d recommend Wendigoon’s video on the missing books of the Bible! There are some weird ones and it’s pretty funny, especially the books about Jesus’s childhood.
The ocean is such a terrifying concept with the fact that we know more about space than our oceans, not only that, we are closer to the ocean than space. Not only in the sense as we are closer in a distance manner, we can also directly touch, feel, and go into the ocean and not space. We can touch the unknown, but not touch the less unknown.
The ocean is truly terrifying and scary you feel unsafe all the sudden
Wendigoon is one of my favorite creators. I cannot wait for part 2! Hopefully you can also do the Disturbing Games Iceberg part 2 someday.
Happy halloween! The management rant reminded me of what my grandfathers accountant told him when my grandfather was hiring them, which was that they would only work for him if he had at least a base understanding of accounting so he would understand their conversations, after which they agreed that my grandfather would start taking classes, and the accountant was hired.
Its always a good day when Alicia watches a Wendigoon video
Discovered I definitely have a phobia of the deep ocean and even some lakes (Thalassophobia) my first time playing Subnautica. I've watched people play it and watched movies like deep blue sea and Jaws, etc with no problem. As soon as I started swimming in Subnautica I had a visceral panic reaction that I've only felt in one life threatening situation, and watching 9/11 on the news. One of only 4 total times in my life that I recognized a panic attack coming on. During a video game... Fucking love that game.
With the Mary Celeste situation, my personal theory (coming up as I'm listening to it here) but the crew, captain, and family, became drunk and sick/psychotic from the fumes of the ethanol. That and any fear from the minor explosions building into a mass panic and the captain grabbing his nav gear, and all the crew and family going in 1 life boat, and setting away being too drunk on fumes to really pay attention to where they where
The captain would've noticed the ethanol and there would be way, way more cases like this if such were the case.
If they were inhaling it that much then nothing would be neat and tidy too. How would you be drunk enough to be afraid of something you're used to yet able to write an accurate record of events the entire time?
With the whole fact that below 1000 meters, light doesn't reach in the ocean, there could be millions of terrifying creatures or other things hiding there, especially considering the average depth of the ocean is like 3688 meters or 3,688 km
I don't wanna sit here and preach you, just to offer a few cents that you don't have to take. I have thalassophobia, the fear of the ocean as mentioned, and I had to get through it quick cause at the time, I signed up for a scuba diving class and had to shake it off real quick. So what I did to shake it off was trying to what ocean themed videos. Nothing crazy like ocean monsters, SCP's and other unexplainable phenomenon's of the ocean. I actually watched video's that related to the activity. So, I watched scuba diving videos. Most of them were videos like swimming around the Florida Keys, around the big island of Hawaii, and so forth. Eventually I got over it, but sometimes it does like to creep in now and again. To try and curb it, I continued watching videos like that, and over time creeped into the over videos. Some like Wendigoon and my personal favorite model builder, Thalasso hobbyer. Anyways, keep being the goat with these reactions and uploads
The story of the Mary Celeste i can only assume ended because of the amount of Ethenol fumes on the boat. (Keep in mind there was a lot) being around those types of fumes for an extended period of time can produce hallucinations among other effects of being drunk. This can lead into thinking something is going wrong with the ship when really there isn't .
This is just my take on the matter. It's conjecture but it's all i can think of.
Still keeping my fingers crossed for the day when Alicia checks out Wendigoon's video on the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park. It's still neat to see her watch his other stuff, as well. Don't get me wrong.
Anywho, Happy Halloween, ya silly rat-ruling elf lady! ^_^
THE POMPOSITY OF THIS MAN!!!
Thalassophobia. The fear of the ocean & deep open waters is properly known as Thalassophobia.
Wendigoon is a very fun creator. Glad you enjoy his stuff (despite how scary it is)
Hey Alicia, when you have the time, please watch the first episode of 'Welcome To Demon School Iruma'. Its a surprisingly wholesome anime that you would absolutely love. It might also serve to balance the darker Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I think your main problem with Welcome To Demon School will be choosing who's best girl, Clara or Amari. OH, and anyone else got the Gilligan's Island theme playing in their head now?
My trigger for my fear of open water only occurs in hard to see murky deep waters and fish once they reach or exceeded around my body length in size. That's when the swimming adrenaline rush hits and I started to look like a speedboat taking off.
During the manscaped sponsored part of the video I then promptly got an ad about guess what manscaped! 😂 Amazing!
It was maybe Doldrums. It's Basicly an area where no wind blows, so it can be stuck where it is for days or weeks and if they had multiple lifeboats little by little men abandoned it to try their luck and the last boat the caption cut loose to keep who was left from leaving so there could be enough crew left to steer the ship. They jump after they had no hope because sinking was quicker than starving or eating questionable meat.
Hope you can tackle the behemoth that is the Conspiracy Theory Iceberg at some point. It's the series that really kicked off Wendigoon's channel and it's super interesting.
Happy hollow bean :)) honestly my favorite reaction channel out there, your commentary along with each video or show is the best, i dont know how to describe it but it feels more lively and filled out I guess? Anyway hope you guys are having a good day
I like how chat starts spamming Iceberg boy. 😂😂😂
Happy Halloween to the Rat Queen; I’m afraid of watery depths because I have a condition called Zero Buoyancy that causes me to just sink. I can’t float no matter how much I try, I just sink; I have to use a float jacket in pools or risk drowning if I go past the shallow end, it makes swimming basically impossible
Alicia is realizing that Wendigoon is a conspiracy theorist lol
That whole part about you being scared of the unknown. Really reminded me of HP Lovecraft lol. Maybe the dude just had a really bad fishing/sailing trip.
She like Rexy from Toy Story, "I hate all this uncertainty!!"
8:22 as an italian i can confirm they pastaway before reaching us
Oh' My' God'' Is That's Biggest SCPs On Water'
So she finally got herself a 999 plushy, nice. The ultimate squishy cute protector blob of jelly :).
27:00 I say it might’ve been sirens…much smaller, and would explain both the scratches, and the lack of a crew and the remainder of their stuff. The sirens called them away from their posts…
My guess about the Mary Celeste (with the info provided) is that there was a very concerningly large explosion, or series of explosions, so they ran for the lifeboat to get some distance, afraid that it was about to go up in flames. And they planned to just paddle back if it looked safe. But then the ship floated away too fast for them to catch up, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. Wendigoon did say the ship was found quite far away from its last logged position.
You would probably quick grab your basic navigation gear if you believed your ship was about to become a fireball, but not think you have enough time to pack anything else.
And unless there's proof otherwise, the scratches were probably already there when the ship set sail, cosmetic damage from previous use.
That word is Thalassophobia...something me and my brother have. 😣
Another scary vid you can see featuring thalassophobia & videogames is *Curious Archive* "Why the Deep Sea Frightens us".
Happy Halloween. Thanks for being a random suggestion on my TH-cam feed that actually turned out to be sweet af.
What's that OSP quote? "The deeper you go the more nightmares you find"?
"Thalassophobia is a type of phobia characterized by a persistent and intense fear of deep water, such as an ocean or a lake."
There’s a theory that there is something so horrific in the oceans and that’s why we spend so much time and money studying space. It’s to find a suitable planet to move too to get away from what’s in the ocean
I have an irrational fear of heights. Can't judge.
3:10 if that's the case, then let's just learn about the ocean, BY GOING IN THE OCEAN
it's really pricy, really dangerous, and a real pain, but it is being done
ah wendigoon, he was actually my prefered guy for the fnaf story, just enjoy the mans voice
Well my theory for the first ship is the cut to the rope could have been made by the females as they most likely did not care about saving the rope as well as may not have been able to detach it correctly if they felt the need to get of the ship for some reason. The missing crew and captain could be a result of fumes from the cargo affecting them over time which would also be a reason to airout the lower decks by opening the cargo doors. The wife and daughter is unlikely to go near to the cargo hence would likely been less affected and as they may have ended up alone if the crew wandered off the deck due to the fumes managing a smaller boat may have seemed a better option then trying to sail the big ship with limited experience and only four hands (potentially proven to the ladies when looking at the partially set sails)
the island that just fuck off is my favorite. 'cause there is no story about a curse, or a monster or whatever, it's just a random unremarkable island that decided to go away one day and I find that funny and somehow satisfying
Thank you for reacting to "Iceberg boy", my beloved.
Being afraid of the ocean is just good sense. The ocean could swallow every single inch of land and not even use half it's surface area. /not/ being afraid of the ocean is some sort of insanity.
I could see skeletons getting eaten by the fish of the great barrier reef, it's one of the largest active ecosystems on the planet
Alicia sounding like Lovecraft for real 😂
I have a feeling that the story of the Mary Celeste is likely what inspired "Return of the Obra Dinn"
In our country, the word "pomposity" is still used quite often. It even sounds very similar. Another great video, thanks.
One of the reasons why we don’t know shit about the ocean is due to the large amount of sonar we know there are huge pockets of the ocean where its just a big ass chunk of open space where litterally nothing is going on. Just huge patches of completely empty ocean, so we tend to ignore those it places, thus classifying them as “unexplored”
The Mary Celeste story makes me think pirates, but once they figured out they cargo was all completely inedible ethanol, they just kidnapped everyone and left.
Cause like, you could sell rum or wine anywhere. Ethanol, in the 1800’s? There’s not a lot of places you could bring that to sell where someone won’t raise an eyebrow.
Wendigoon is a based man
Top tier internet dad.
I'm the complete opposite regarding the ocean. I've actually never lived more than a couple miles away from the ocean and I can't imagine not living so close to it. I even learned how to sail, tho I havent done so for a long time
In the same breath tho, I respect the fuck out of it. You don't want to mess around with it because it takes no prisoners. Well, no living prisoners at least...
I have many dreams where i either find myself at the bottom of the ocean or where im sinking into the abyss, and ill bè honest there pretty cool, there wierdly calming dreams, walking on the seabed, seeing wierd creatures glowing, just its not very realistic because in the bottom of the ocean without a light should bè complete and utter darkness
I rock backwards and forwards in bed, while being a blanket burrito, when I've got crazy anxiety... there's actually science to show it's really soothing lmao There's even beds that rock!
course if you do it ...be careful lol... I accidentally put my foot through the wall doing it
I don’t know if you are into reacting to a truly unsettling and graphic yet interesting story, but wendigoon has a video called “the most painful death in history” about a man exposed to extreme radiation levels in a Nuclear accident, and it details the doctors battle to keep him alive and the extent to which radiation truly destroys you from the inside out. You might be supervised at how far modern technology can go to keep someone alive even as their body crumbles around them. It has a very similar vibe to Internet Historian’s “man in cave” video
Fun Fact
We all know that the ocean is big, but did you know only 5% of it has been explored. And only 10% of the ocean floor has been mapped by sonar.
Wendigoon is the fucking GOAT 🐐🐐
I definitely think the Mary Celeste (with everything spread out as if people was living in it prior to discovery but there are no one on board) was parodied by a One Piece filler arc "The G 8" Arc, which is universally loved as one of the best filler arcs in the series.
The Edmund Fitzgerald better be on this list. Lake Superior is effing terrifying
I’d HIGHLY recommend Wendigoon’s video on the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park!
Wendigoon also has his own rendition of the FNAF lore, and his take on it is so fun to listen to.
so i have to hypothesis one for each ship , the first one is that the vapors of the ethonal also lowered inhebition as being drunk dose ,ontop of some excited circomstance be it storm vapor explosions orwhat ever ,ontop of every one being just slightly buzzed from said vapor , all pilled into one boat cause the realization ofwhats going on with the vapor and they needed to GTFO .
as for the kan 2 i am curios about if theres a low to the surface of the water stepping ladder or something , or if it was way to high to be climbed back onto , cause i had seen a horror movie along that lines where this group had a tall boat all drunk partying and all jump into the ocean while having a good time , only problem they forgot to deploy the rope ladder to get back on (and that being the only way back on from swimming )
If you like to watch more of Wendigoon I have a suggestion: Mystery Flesh Pit National Park
It's as disgusting as it sounds. But a very cool story and one of my favourites from Wendigoon.
The fear is called Thalassophobia. I like to remember it by thinking about it as “that ass” o phobia.
Yay you got the Slime
1:30 Okay...It back, commenters.
I deeply apologize.
The ghost ships remind me of legends of sirens, where they lure sailors to their deaths with hypnotic songs.
Fear of the ocean is Thalassophobia , I also have it... But if you can be brave so can I haha
A video I would recommend is another Internet Historian video called Going camping at the end of the world, it’s based on the rapture.
@17:16 **in a Markiplier voice "was it blood!?!"
My favorite video wendigoon has done is the all quiet on the western front.
Yeah, we know more about space than the ocean _because its easier to get into space than dive into the ocean!_
While we know more about the Ocean than people assume (For example, the whole 10% mapped myth. We have detailed maps of the entire ocean floor, both thanks to satellite imagery and other methods using radar and lidar) it is still very mysterious. Its fascinating!
Im still kinda new to your channle but the reson you hate the ocean is the reson i love it 😂
I adore horror & fantasy and the ocean is just the ultamate idea generator for me
Happy Halloween! I would highly recommend the mystery flesh pit national park video, it's my favorite from him
Alicia, I saved you the trouble of even having the chance of open water stuff showing up to look up what the word is. I looked it up and I'm just going to drop it in the comment here. I hope it helps
thalassophobia: the fear of open water and or oceans
Yeah the unknown bit is a huge part of it, we can see millions of lightyears through space at night with the naked eye, about 3 miles before the curvature of the earth starts hiding things, under water we're practically blind by comparison, plus under water the danger can come from anywhere, not just laterally as we're used to thinking, but above and below too, our field of vision is very narrow compared to a lot of species, and things in the ocean get biiiiiig, like imagine a predatory elephant that could fly or go under ground and you can't see it until it's right next to you, no fucking thanks!
Happy(Late) Halloween. My fear of the ocean came from when I got washed out to sea when I was a kid. Washed down a river that dumped into the ocean in Panama. It was horrifying.
Happy Halloween, my nephew was just born today I'm so happy
Happy Halloween! A reaction to Over the Garden Wall would be great.
Vibin hard, it's what I DON'T see in the water that terrifies me.
This is the last day of me trying to convince Alicia to watch Emesis Blue from Fortress Films before the end of spooktober.
My Wife and I don't say Happy Halloween, We Say Happy Anniversary. We've been together 15 years now.
Congrats! Happy anniversary to you both!
32:24 NOT SOMEONE SAYING THIS IS HOW JOJO'S PT3 STARTED 😭😭😭
