Hating team owners is an essential part of the sports fan experience.
Every sports fan can tell you about a game that broke their heart. Every sports fan has at least one blown call that they’ll never forget. And every sports fan has a team owner they’ve wanted to punch in the face.
Owner-hatred and fandom are inseparable, and the history of pro sports is littered with team owners who are LOATHED by fans, whether because they were cheapskates, or traitors, or racists, or just plain old incompetent. But NONE of them have been more hated, more despised, more cursed, more abhorred, more reviled, than Arthur Bertram Modell.
That’s a lot of different words that all basically mean people didn’t like this dude. But the excessive verbiage is warranted. Just ask somebody from Cleveland.
Today we present This LYING NFL Owner RIPPED A City’s Heart Out and Got Away With It.
and don't forget to leave your video ideas down in the comments below, we’re looking and we’ll give you a shout out in the video if we use it.

It was a bogus, joke referendum that Spanos and Fabiani knew was going to lose. They tried to sell San Diego on trying to shoehorn a $2 billion monstrosity into downtown where no one wanted it, when rebuilding in Mission Valley or somewhere else would have been less expensive. They also jacked up the price by adding a roof... in San Diego. I can't think of another city where you would need a roofed stadium less. Dean Spanos never intended to stay in SD and his trained attack dog Mark Fabiani so poisoned the well here that there is no way a Spanos owned team could ever come back. So they now have to make it in LA where the Rams don't want them, the people of LA don't want them and the NFL don't want them. Spanos has taken an NFL team with a 56 year history in a city and fan base and made it a laughing stock.

Irsay told a flock of cameras and reporters that he wasn’t moving the Colts from Baltimore, all the while he was going around the country being wooed by cities like Jacksonville. Any legal action the city of Baltimore and state of Maryland took was in direct response to that mans deceitful behavior. He set the stage for moving teams long before Art Modell.

As a Browns fan the biggest reason I hate Art Modell is that he just wouldn’t admit to his mistakes when at the end of the day it was his fault, his poor business decisions lead to his problems. He literally demonized Cleveland making us look like the bad guys because he just didn’t want to with admit that he screwed up, that’s egotistical to a legendary degree! Also before you say he didn’t demonize the city, he made it look like the city was screwing him over constantly even though what he did was purely his fault because of poor business practices, also the way his family treated the city of Cleveland as if we were ungrateful! Why don’t you go ask how grateful the city of Oakland is now that the Raiders are leaving, I bet you you won’t find any gratitude among those fans! I know this has kind of been a rant but I hate that people try to defend Art Modell, he doesn’t deserve a defense, he screwed over Cleveland and then blamed the people he screwed over. I’m sorry but that’s unforgivable.

Really, winning a Super Bowl is the only way Browns fans will "forgive" (note the quotes) Modell. I know some Browns fans right now may think they can never do it, but take it from this Eagles fan: that first Super Bowl victory after decades of heartbreak does do wonders for fan sentiment. It calms nerves and makes it much easier for fans to let go of grudges or not hold them at all.

On the other hand, Irsay stabbed the city of Baltimore in the back for no reason. And snuck out like the coward he was in the middle of the night. I still believe since Tagliabue absolutely despised Baltimore, he had something to do with that whole Minneapolis Colts deal.
Every time Baltimore had a chance to get a new team, Tagliabue did something to purposely screw it up. Thankfully he couldn't stop Art's move. But I believe he tried...

    • @216Numbskull

@DanMeyer80, How exactly did the city of Cleveland screw Art "The Azzhole" Modell my friend? Discussions to build a new stadium for Art & the team between the city of Cleveland & Modell may have taken longer in debate than expected. However, the issue looked very promising on the city's part to build a new stadium for the BROWNS. Unlike Modell who was acting like the little bltch he was all the time by throwing temper tantrums if he didn't immediately get his way. The fact that the city of Cleveland leased Muni stadium to Modell for only $1.00 a year speaks volumes alone. While in turn Modell profited off of leasing the stadium to the Cleveland Indians over half the year. Which I guarantee that lease agreement with the Indians was much more than a $1.00 a year. Not to mention Modell also owned & controlled all the beer & food concession stands at every event in the stadium. So, please tell me again how hard it was for Modell to make a buck back in the day? If anybody screwed anybody, Art's the one who took complete advantage of BROWNS fans & the city of Cleveland more so than anyone else really. Remember Cleveland only charged Modell a buck per year to lease Muni stadium. While Modell never put a single buck into keeping up the stadium whatsoever. Modell let the stadium go to shlt when it was his responsibility to fix & update anything that needed to be done in the lease agreement he signed, period. WTF-OVER! You can't have your cake & eat it too, ya dig? I hate to speak ill will of the dead, but F%ck Modell. Art Modell was also the ignorant dipshlt who after he bought the BROWNS decided to fire an iconic figure & HC in the NFL named "Paul Brown" over a silly argument. I mean "Paul Brown" was only the guy the Cleveland BROWNS are named after. No big deal there, right? 😂😉 GO-DAWGS!

  • @my2centsiz3

Well done, what the city of Baltimore offered Model was incredible. The city of Cleveland was just offering a new Stadium or up grades and renovation to the old stadium. Where pocketing the money would be under a microscope, Baltimore offered the stadium and? filled his pockets. All at the expense of the Tax payers. So schools suffered. all of civil service went without. Which trust me, they still had it good. So it wasnt so much the stadium, but what he could pocket. Baltimore got its team. So lets do some math. Oakland? or Vegas? Right Vegas gets the team.

    • @my2centsiz3
      @my2centsiz3 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Well I was living in Vegas when all this went down and only remember what I heard and saw on TV, I remember Mayor White handing over a check to a Browns official for n absurd amount of money but it was after the fact, I also heard that the deal went down on Randy Lerners private plane, And Lerner was slowly buying up all the Browns stock for a take over, so it was Arts last chance to make money before Lerner bought him out. Unfortunately , any time the tax payers fund anything, the schools and public suffer. I live in Vegas, one of the richest Countys in the U.S. and we have a horrible education system. We take your money, but it only goes to the greedy. Personally, I dont think Art was very liked in Cleveland.

The old Otto graham era browns can still claim their team and city, the old Unitas era colts don’t even recognize the Indy colts as their franchise.

ALL NFL owners have ZERO loyalty to the City their team plays in. And NFL owners have even LESS loyalty to the Fans of their team. All you have to do is take note of all the NFL teams that have moved just recently. And when an NFL team owner wants a new, State-of-the-Art Stadium for his team, the very first words out of his mouth is "Give me a new Stadium or I will move MY NFL team." People: do NOT spend $175 on Official NFL gear like Jerseys.

Refurbishing cleveland stadium would have been a bad move tho at that point all the multipurpose stadiums were going away....

Art Modell, himself a native of Brooklyn, NY, was asked by a reporter how he could do to Cleveland in 1995 what Walter O'Malley did to Brooklyn in 1957. Modell would say that as a long time Dodger fan, the team's move to LA was heartbreaking to him, but understood why O'Malley did it. Spoken like a businessman. Modell is as reviled in Cleveland as Walter O'Malley was in Brooklyn.

    • @KingGemini87

But Brooklyn shouldn't be mad at Walter O'Malley. They should be mad at Robert Moses because HE was the one who told Walter that the Dodgers will remain in New York but not Brooklyn because the proposed stadium for the Dodgers would be built in Queens which didn't make any sense at all. So blame and be mad at Robert Moses, not Walter O'Malley

That’s not a lot of money for a stadium. Then the city built Jacobs Field for the Indians despite saying they had no money. Also browns fans need to get over it. Yes, he did a lot of wonderful things for Cleveland and the NFL. Examples, include getting the Browns on the first Monday Night Football game in Cleveland and chairing the committee. However, he destroyed his legacy by making horrible business decisions, such as leading Jim Brown to retirement and taking over operations on the stadium. Also, not working things out with Paul Brown and being bad with finances.
