For those who still do not realize the historical significance of this game. I'll explain it for those who still don't know. This was the final Browns home game played at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. The pervious month then Browns Owner Art Modell announced following the conclusion of the 1995 season. The team would be moving to Baltimore. Hence the reason the Baltimore Ravens exist.
It was a stadium even worse than the Oakland Coliseum where the Oakland athletics play and the raiders played from 1996 till last year where they had sewage leaks lmao look it up
Fun Fact: Only three members of the 1995 Cleveland Browns would play on the 2000 Baltimore Ravens team that won Super Bowl XXXV Kicker Matt Stover and Defensive Ends Rob Burnett and Larry Webster
True, but most of the FO personnel (and ownership, obviously) from Cleveland remained. Not to mention, the pick that was used to draft Ray Lewis in 1996 was acquired by the Browns in 1995. So when Baltimore won the Super Bowl in 2000, there was a lot of eerie familiarity with that team in the eyes of many Browns fans. As Doug Dieken said, most Browns fans would have rather seen the Steelers win another Super Bowl than that Baltimore team
Ripped my heart out. The Browns were a religion in my family, while growing up in Northeast Ohio. It's never been the same for me since. From '96'-'99 I learned to live without the NFL. I root for the current Browns and want them to win, but not like before. I don't make any special plans to make sure I can watch them. Glad they finished that '95 season in the all white unis. Should be the only home uni. Can't stand all that orange or brown they wear frequently now.
Imagine how different football history would be if the original Browns hadn't become the Baltimore Ravens. As a Bears fan i say the NFL is a better place with the current Browns competitive once again.
Now that I think of it, the AFC North is basically consisted of 3 off-shoots of the same team. - The Bengals were created because Paul Brown, the original founder of the Cleveland Browns, was controversially fired by Art Modell and wanted to recreate what he had in Cleveland (hence why the Bengals' uniforms were nearly identical to Cleveland's for the early years of their existence). - The Ravens are the original Browns that were controversially moved to Baltimore by, guess who? Art Modell. - The current Browns are the expansion franchise that maintained the history of the original Cleveland Browns (now Baltimore Ravens) as part of a lawsuit by the city of Cleveland. And because of realignment, the Steelers remain the only team in the division to have absolutely _nothing_ to do with this mess. The odd man out, if you will, and of course, historically, they're the best team in that division by far.
Only flaw to your argument is that in the last 15 or 20 years, the quality of character within the Steelers organization has gone downhill. Much as I loathe the Steelers, I used to be able to at least respect them as I was growing up. Now... Villanueva is about the only person in that organization I can respect.
Actually, The Steelers are the best in the superbowl era, but if you take into account the pre superbowl era, and the superbowl era up to 1990, the Browns are historically the best. In fact, if you count out every year since 1999, the Browns are the best team historically in the division. As the Browns had an absolute dynasty in the 50s and 60s, probably the most dominant team in history. On top of that, the Browns made the playoffs consistently with 3 AFC championship appearances in the 80s, and the last playoff appearances in 2002. The steelers have won 6 Superbowls, but the Browns made 6 straight NFL Championship appearances in the 50s. They won 4 straight AAFL Championships from 1946 (the year they were founded) to 1949, then won the NFL Championship in 1950 (their first year in the NFL). They won three more NFL Championships, winning their last one in 1964. That's 8 Championships in Team History (The Steelers never won a NFL Championship, or a AAFL Championship since they didnt play in the AAFL) and 10 straight appearances from 1946 to 1956. Consistent playoffs, 3 AFC Championship appearances in the 80s, and one last playoff appearance in 02'. Now they are pushing to be great again, and we have the potential for playoffs. One can only hope. The saddest part is that the Browns you see in this video won a Superbowl just a few years later as the Ravens, meaning those Browns had Superbowl potential, and had they not moved, we would be talking about the best statistic team in History.
@@BZ0905 The problem with that argument is that you basically have to ignore the last 20 years to make that case for the Browns. They had a better start to their franchise than Pittsburgh did (Pittsburgh was garbage up until the 1970s), but since their dynasty years in the 1970s, the Steelers have almost always been consistently better than the Browns. They have more Super Bowl appearances, AFC Championship appearances, playoff appearances and wins in general than the post-merger Browns, and have only maintained their success in spite of the league growing at a fairly rapid rate over the last 50 years. To argue that the Browns are historically better purely because of their success in the 50s and the fact that they have the potential to be a good team again now is disingenuous, to put it nicely.
@@humbleheart7821 It's a long story but basically in 1995 the original Browns were moved to Baltimore by then owner Art Modell, and changed their name to the Ravens. The current Browns that you're watching today are an expansion franchise that inherited the history of the old Cleveland Browns (now Baltimore Ravens) and joined the league in 1999. It's a rare case where a team that moves to a different city doesn't keep the team's former history (Like say, the Houston Oilers when they moved to Tennessee. The Texans did not inherit the history of the Oilers and were treated as a true expansion franchise). The city of Cleveland sued for the naming rights of the team and their history and won, so the Baltimore Ravens were treated as a brand new team, while the expansion Browns were treated as the Browns of old, even though it was the exact opposite for both sides. Modell went broke signing him as a free agent that season
The fans had been on his case because he underperformed that year. Then he publicly said he was gonna be glad to go to Baltimore.
it would have been more appropriate for the Browns to lose this game
I’ve never seen a player from the home team get booed as much as Rison got booed…only in Cleveland
He ran his mouth too much about not getting the football. He disrespected the fans of Cleveland and got what he deserved. I know! I was a Season Ticket Holder in '93 and still have them!!!!!
I have a section of the Dawg Pound bleachers on the wall of my Man Cave from that game!
A 6'-4", 250#+ guy leaving the Stadium with an eight foot-long 2x8 on his shoulder and the security person said to me, "Have a safe trip home."!!!!!
@@johnleeson6946 oh I know….I remember that very well…just still amazing to go back and hear it in 2021
@@johnleeson6946 I'm glad for his stint in Cleveland helped my packers win 96 super bowl when he returned to his old self
@@johnleeson6946 Andre rison was supposed to make the browns the favorites
Would anybody else be willing to pay for access to old NFL games?
I want the whole nfl films vault and those 6 days to Sunday documentaries that are awesome they have one on nfl films channel with 76 saints hank stram but that's it...
If they are full broadcast quality like this, then certainly I would pay.
@@astrostar49 I was thinking sort of a team by team deal. You could get access to your favorite team or the whole league as a package deal.
Never been the same since 🤣
Never changed
@@49ersdog70 some things never change
I wish they would have the full game
Holy shoulder pads Byner
Browns finally on the right track. Winning Days coming right up.
Lmao OBJ’s “good” game Thursday saved him another week from becoming the next Andre Rison
Well it only took 35 years, a shit ton of awful qbs and coaches, but the Cleveland Browns are now a playoff team. Yay.
The last NFL game in old Cleveland Stadium is also the last game of the original Cleveland Browns. Also; both teams are Orange and Black, both teams are of Ohio, both teams have initials C.B., both teams were founded by owner-coach Paul Brown.
I was end for a lot of teams, like the bills streak
That ended year before when chargers got in led by bobby ross
1995 for the browns was like 2020 was for the rest of the world
It may have been a dump but it was THEIR dump. Love from an Oakland A’s fan.
NFL throwback should do a Jamaal Charles career highlights
Where the browns will create another child in the NFL
I want a Browns McCardell jersey so bad
Na rison or pepper johnson
RIP to Michael Jackson, pretty good WR.
Most people forget about him kinda like jake reed for the vikings and keenan mccardell who was also on this browns team lol
@@erocs9747 I concur bro. A lot of forgotten gems from back in the day on both sides of the ball (league-wise). This was when the Browns still had the “cardiac kids” mentality and as I stated in another comment elsewhere, municipal stadium definitely had a mystique to it (in my humble opinion).
@@erocs9747 Yea, Keenan got picked up in the expansion draft and balled out with his Jags and company. So many forgotten players but I remember them all (as I’m sure you do). These were the times when I was heavily invested in the game, as a young kid.💯
@@NeoNitty Same here glory days
NFL 1995 "I just welcomed my two newest NFL franchises in Charlotte and Jacksonville. There's buzz that with increasing popularity everyone will have more money soon. And community connected owners are all over. But I'm concerned I gotta feeling that after all the money people may not recognize me anymore."
NFL 2021 "I have grown. Forced 5 relocations. Have Internet only games, owners who can barely tell you what street the stadium is on and I'm worth billions of dollars. All while pricing out the same people who keep me afloat for so many years. Corporations over people. And the best part we play 3 to 4 games in London, England EVERY YEAR 😀. My message to 1995 eat my dust"
P.S. Mike Brown still runs the Bengals and haven't won a playoff game.
That last sentence aged like milk
@@TimmyTickle It was good prior to this season. But my guess is Brown won't put an extra cent into the team. Still the only francise without an indoor practice facility. What a joke!
@@NSUTurtle they finally getting indoor practice facilitie!
@@TimmyTickle burrow the next Brady imo same vibe about him
@@ericpackers1700 Well I'll be dammed. It only took a Super Bowl run to do it though. Mike Brown = cheapo.
A sad 😭 day in Cleveland. But, a celebration for Baltimore (as they become The Ravens before the 1996 season in September).
Cleveland Stadium, the only stadium where the surface was painted mud
Where’s the first down line? Where is the score box? How much time is left in the game? Sky cam?! Who are my fantasy players? What are the other scores of the other games in the NFL?
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON?!
This is 1995 my man
Ethan Spencer They were dark times.... kids don’t know how good they have it these days
They’re not saying “Moon”; they’re saying “Boo.”
I Hope Art Modell had at least strong tooth pain for that.
As a Ravens fan, while I'm very happy Art brought football back to Baltimore, let's be real here, Art was never a good owner. It's why the NFL forced Modell to sell the Ravens in 2003.
He's nothing but a worthless, cheapskating traitor! I hope he never makes it to Canton!!
cleveland fans deserve a superbowl man
NFL on NBC >>>>>>
Love the song
I hated NBC. It took 10 minutes before they would finally show the score.
Why is the home crowd booing Ryson?
Cause he signed a big contract
(?)
Doug bats in the Pelfrey
I bet Michael Jackson really hated his name sometimes.
This is the day that the Browns died. The new Browns are just a propped-up corpse of the old Browns.
NFL on NBC theme then is better than now. Yes I said it
I hope I don't have to turn it off at halftime tonight. Go Browns
I wanted to see TNF but I couldn’t because my wisdom tooth that I had surgery, same day before the game started, was hurting me. But after seeing this game is very upsetting and disappointing for fans, coaches and historians. To me it’s very sad. But how does it make me sad? It makes me feel almost the same for the team except this is the past and I, myself is at another time that I didn't see.
Look, TBH, if my team loses, I don’t want to bet. I support a team and a player or coach with heart and respect. I supported Joe Burrow on TNF because he’s a young but smart, talented and focused leader. Like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes, or any player.
But in the end, I’m giving these browns a chance as well.
These Cleveland Browns are almost a successor to the original except they carry the name on and should with their recent but similar uniforms from their glory years before.
browns was retired and new ravens and then browns return to nfl again ravens got Lombardi trophy
Patriots hiring bill belicheck and nfl draft Patriots got tom Brady and bill belicheck and Tom Brady got 6 Lombardi. browns have 0 Lombardi trophy
all of people browns fan are mad and without Lombardi trophy
Lots of "run-and-shoot" by Cleveland!
Why was everyone booing Rison?
He was a huge Free Agent bust that year and wanted out of Cleveland from the beginning when he realized it’s hard playing outside instead of Atlanta
After Modell announced the move he basically said he couldn't wait to get to Baltimore. Fans booed him the rest of the season.
23:45 love seeing the diehard fans interact with the players
