    How dry is your beard after using heating tool?

      Too dry. I didn't know what to do about it tbh. But I have been using straighteners. They make my bears really dry and thin. I have just bought a hair dryer based on some pro advice!

    Can I use a blow dryer on my beard without damaging it?

    I’ve tried heat; although it gets straight, it feels very dry and brittle.

    I had a white buddy tell me the other day that black guys grow the best beards and I think it's because our hair is not straight and that's why it looks so much more full when we do grow one I don't know why anybody would want to straighten their beard and make it look all thin stringy and weak. I love my black thick beard. Just maintain it like you would the hair on your head and you can have a beautiful strong fresh looking beard. I trim mine from time to time just to get rid of wild hairs and keep it looking even.

    I personally use a beard brush every day as part of my styling, as my beard hair is very curly but I prefer a straighter, full-length style of beard.
    I never use the beard brush on my beard if it's dry. In the morning, I get my beard wet, dry it with a towel(so it's still moist but not dripping wet), put some beard oil, let the hair absorb the oil for a few minutes, then use the beard brush. The oil will help protect the beard from heat damage. I don't use any beard balm or other styling product during the day, I prefer the "natural hair" look and feel.
    And before going to bed, again, I get the beard wet, dry with a towel and put some oil and let it absorb for a few minutes. And then I apply beard butter to nourish and hydrate my beard during the night. So far so good with this routine.

      Adding water to your beard that often is actually quite damaging. Hair is most fragile when it’s wet. The oils can penetrate without dampening the beard first and they’ll actually absorb better. Oil and water do not mix.

    • @HCkev
      @HCkev 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itsactuallyali I agree that oil and water don't mix, but we're not mixing oil and water. I said a damp beard, not wet beard. It shouldn't be dripping, just slightly moist. Yes it absorbs better when it's dry, that's exactly what we want to avoid, the beard hair absorbing all the oil right away and then have a dry beard for the rest of the day. The idea is to "seal" that moisture in, and a good quality beard oil (which is a mixture of several different carriers with different purposes) will do just that. Dan C Bearded has a great video explaining this, it's called "Beard oil before drying or after".

    • @itsactuallyali

      My point is that it’s damaging to “seal in” water to our hair because water is damaging to the follicle. There’s a difference between “moisturizing” and “conditioning”. Hair needs to be conditioned when it’s damaged.
