i am wondering how will you be able to find the person when you give the the gift but, the reason i give like and subscribe is because you give me what i want to know tnx
Seems every car, and OBD2 channel that I tune into , that you get a mention. Your notoriety is surpassing all expectations. We await your 8,867th video. Been chasing any transit's lately? 📉📉📉📉📉😆😆😆
I've got a w212 manual. It's done 165k + miles. The only things I had changed was the clutch when I got it at 120k (I made the dealership change it) I changed the water pump as it was leaking. I changed the battery also and that's it. The car is solid !
Not a W212 in video, it's an S212. Was a MB tech for 8 years, these cars are solid. If you are worried about airmatic, don't get an estate (only rear air springs for load levelling) or 550/63 (usually a performance option) most come with steel springs. We didn't have 4 cyl diesel in US, but we had the V6, don't get a V6 diesel, egr creates tons on carbon soot in intake manifold, and I've seen the OM642 seize due to main bearing failure at 20k miles with all services done. If you want a reliable 212 get a W212 (sedan) with steel springs, M272 (2010, 2011), and do all recommended services in your booklet. Common problems are: fading wood trim, cam solenoids (super easy to replace), thermostat, intake manifold tumbler linkage can break (only effects engine performance, you won't notice it ) and rarely the conductor plate in the transmission will throw a speed sensor fault and will need to be replaced. They will go 200k miles+ with original drive train with minimal repairs needed. I was going to get one but got a W204 C63 because I'm a moron.
JDM180 I have a 2012 E350 4matic. Bought it last year with 70k miles and about to hit 80k. Only have had to do a Service B on it and change the engine air filter which I did myself. It’s been a solid car like you said.
JDM180 you are right I owned w204 with 3.0 m272 and it was most reliable car even with 200000 miles, change transmission oil every 35000 miles then that conductor plate shouldn’t be a problem and I also had linkage break on manifold ,I changed it with dorman kit other than that I always used liqui moly oils in it and always used original coolant and avoided thermostat replacement., and most important I was tired of bent wheels on 225/45/17,245/40/17 but I changed it to 17x8 et 45 rial with 235/50/17 that’s hack if someone want luxury ride in their sport models.
@@lordflacko my friend I bought a 2010 E350, cool car..can you please tell me about the C\S button? When should we use the " Cold" setting and "Summer" in our transimission? Which one consumes more fuel?
@@elvistaipi5106 C is from comfort and S is from sport, so if u want to change gears at high revs and have better engine brake use S. I also have e350 s212.
I bought a US Spec 2010 W212 E350 4Matic Sedan back on my vacation home while stationed in Korea. It had 80k miles and was a lease and previous CPO. The complete maintenance records showed not a single component breaking, and all routine maintenance was accomplished. I put 3k miles on her in less than a month, 2k of those from a road trip from Western Colorado to Central Iowa and back. I only ran into two problems: smoke started billowing out of the engine bay on my way home from the dealer - not a problem, one of the dealer workers didn't fully seat the dipstick, and the tire refill stem on the rear driver side wheel sheared off from prior corrosion - a free fix from a local tire shop. From the time I spent with the W212, I instantly fell in love with the car, and really began to highly appreciate the effort Mercedes-Benz put into the smallest details of this lineup. My car is going on 9 years old and not a single electrical feature has failed. While I have a special spot in my heart for the BMW 5 series, as my first car was a '92 535i, I couldn't recommend a 5-Series to you without at least having you consider an E-Class as well. Both are absolutely superb cars for what they both offer - the E-Class is an absolute tank, and offers the ride quality expected out of a Mercedes-Benz, while having a commanding presence. The 5-Series has the feeling of Sumo wrestler that moonlights as a professional ballerina. Both are tanks that handle extremely well, but the 5-Series feels specifically focused on this, and sacrifices just a little of what makes the E-Class a better contender: total calmness in the cabin and long range comfort.
This was spot on with my S212 (4matic Estate)! 1)I had a solenoid failure in Airmatic and it was covered under warranty. 2)The air bolsters in the driver seat split a seam, covered under warranty. 3)Finally had to have new airbags installed in rear suspension at 75,000 miles. 4)The motor mounts are starting to wear out at 100,000 miles and I feel vibration. I plan on having that fixed this year. 5)My own thing: to have all four corners replaced with tighter Bilstein shocks at next service. It's been a great car! edit: I've also had to have the EGR valve replaced on the diesel E350 at 75k, just like you mentioned.
I had assumed that this would be a list of potential problems specific to Mercedes W112, it is not. All of these problems can and do happen to any car of any make or model #1Any car with air suspension may develop leaks at some point in it's life, just as your tires can develop leaks. I've found that repairing this in most Mercedes models is easier than with most other air suspension cars. # 2 Every car built with ABS will have ABS sensors, and normally it is one of two things The Sensor and or the reluctant wheel are gummed up with dirt mud grease of just general gunk, or the sensor wire is broken, or last the sensor is bad. The sensors are easy to get to and easy to change, it takes as long to jack the car up and remove the wheel as it does to change the sensor, just make sure the little tooth ring that the sensor reads is not a gummed up mess, clean it off. #3 All cars have an EGR valve, and eventually they will all become clogged up, you can take them off and clean them which works "Most" times or just buy a new one they are not expensive. On Mercedes cars they are quite simple and easy to replace. #4 motor mounts in ALL cars eventually break, the Mercedes mounts are oil filled like shocks, that is why they dampen the engine vibrations and. They will tend to crack and leak the fluid out after High mileage. Lower powered cars will last longer, high powered cars like AMG for instance won't last as long especially if you have a heavy foot. There are only two engine mounts and one transmission mount which usually last a long time. #5 this is not really a common problem, and it can also happen to any car that sits a long time, it will clear itself with a few miles of driving. Now for the Scanner. Yes the i-soft is one of the better scanners around, but if you can afford about $600 U.S, go for a true diagnostic computer and you will be able to pin point every module and every problem in the car with a push of a few buttons just as the dealer does. Untill a few years ago, you could not get one that would work on Mercedes unless you wanted to buy one from Mercedes at a cost of around $30,000 U.S. minimum, and you had to go to school to learn how to use the damn thing. I know I have one which I don't use much anymore. Now you can buy one that works as well as the computer at the dealership for $600 to $700 that will diagnose any car made that has an OBD2 port. The one I have been using in my shop the past few years is is a MaxDas 808, you can buy them on line at dozens of tool sellers. It surprised me but the cheapest place I found was Walmart on line, (No they don't sell them in their stores.) Amazon was almost the same price. the Snap-on ones are extremely over priced, and complicated, hard to learn to operate and do not do much more than the MaxDas. There are newer brands out there, so just check around. If you wish to diagnose any car in the world, make sure you are looking at a diagnostic computer and not a scanner. If it costs less than about $600 new, it is probably a scanner. I have hooked diagnostic computers to hundreds of makes and models of cars. Some cars will give you minimale information when it runs a complete scan, some will tell you a bit more. I have hooked to Jaguars and they will give you maybe 10 or 15 things that it checked. Mercedes cars will will give you pages of lines of the things it has check, and when it finds a fault you can click it and go deeper into the cars computer and check each and every component to find which one is the problem. It will even tell simple things like you if your trunk light or license plate is out and if you really want to know, it will also tell you every instance of that light going out since the car left the factory and at approximately what milage that it happened. All by touching a few things on a touch screen. If you can operate a smart phone, you can work one of these. I'm not advertising MaxDas, it's just the one I have right now, as a matter of fact my fingers are itching to try out a couple of other brands, after all mine is a couple years old and the new ones are out there. LoL. The MaxDas 808 will not allow you to reprogram the cars computer like the MB Star, but you can get a MaxDas model that will if you want to spend about $1,500 and up, but how often are you planning on programing you ECM?
@@miketheking4595 Sorry, I get carried away, I'm a frustrated writer. My hands can't keep up with my mind most of the time, other times they just let me ramble on. Ya see? I could have just said "Sorry," here I go writing a book. LoL
One big one for the V6 gasoline engines - the cam adjusters can leak oil, which can wick up the wiring harness to the engine ecu and cause havoc. Mercedes sells little pigtail sacrificial wiring harnesses that go between the main harness and the adjuster that will prevent the wicking, but if they are leaking they really need to be replaced. A several hundred dollar job for all four of them. This happened to my car at about 80K miles, thankfully caught before the oil got too far. Don't let the leaking air bags go for very long. The pump will work overtime keeping them pumped up, and it will fail. That is more expensive than the bags! As soon as they start to sag overnight, find the issue and fix it. Spraying soapy water on them will find the leak very easily.
Great presentation. I had a similar issue with the suspension. Instead of both sides being lower, only the left rear side was lower. Turns out the pneumatic line between the valve block and left air spring was leaking air. A repair was install and it's good as new. Cost of repair was $440 at the local Mercedes repair shop.
On my W211 I can confirm some of this points as well: on air suspension I had same issue. It starts to lose air an fall down on back (firstly after 3or4 days, after a while it was after day day and than after half an hour - it was 1month process). When it was falling down so fast, I've changed airbag immediately, to avoid risk of defect of air compressor (maybe it is important caution to everyone. Don't use car with this issue long time, you will ruine compressor and repair cost will me much higher... Next thing is ABS. It is not just about sensor. In my car it was ring on axle, sensor was ok. And finally vibrations. Fighting with that from beginning (own car more than year). Different wheels with different set of tyres, suspension revised and changed some components. But issue still same. Engine mounts revised and should be ok as well. Maybe I will change it anyway and will see...
I have yet to hear of any manufacturer make an air suspension system that lasts the life of the car. Inevitably, they leak. Unfortunately, they are expensive to repair relative to a conventional suspension.
@Commenter2 I agree with your philosophy on used car purchases: avoid unnecessary complexity. That being said, some people really enjoy the ride quality offered by a Mercedes or other luxury car, and buying a used model might sometimes make sense for them. For those that aren't mechanically inclined, I only hope they inform themselves of the significant costs of properly maintaining these vehicles so that they can determine for themselves whether it is worth the experience, budget appropriately, or arrange for some warranty.
Any tips on refurbishing the faded wood grain? it’s pretty bad on the ‘14 w212 I just purchased, but mechanically it’s perfect (found one at just 33k miles)
I bought mine new in 2012 and its still in perfect order and looking like new today. Its OK to drive, but it has tremendous hauling capacity for a wagon. My 2.6 meter Edge fuselage fits nicely with the rudder between the seats. Its a beautiful car. The front end is aggressive but handsome. The rear alignment is a challenge. I have Hardrace camber arms to put on as I look for a precision obsessed alignment shop.
For No.2 ESP/ABS warning light on, that's the wheel speed sensor. "Right front axle rpm sensor" Commonly seen on M270 engines for some reason, rare on any other models
I have a that car in coupe format. Nice to know not much outside maintenance to worry about. I service at Mercedes and change the gear box oil every 30k instead of 60k as guided. She runs on V-power diesel on every fill up. Clean and powerful E350d.
It has the best taillights (2014 facelift) ever. Newer S-Class’ taillights don’t extend to the trunk anymore such a shame. It feels like something is missing
I've seen a bunch of W212's and other MB's for that matter, AUXILLARY BATTERY MALFUNCTION. Getting ready to replace mine soon. $100 USD installed locally. I've had a few other minor issues (auto headlamps will stop functioning...3 times now... doesn't affect the operation, you just have to turn them off and on. Fortunately, it is random and I think it may be related to the AUX BATTERY issue...fingers crossed)(another was the CRUISE CONTROL NOT FUNCTIONING appeared on the screen, causing the ESP light to come on. The car died while driving on the interstate when this happened. All dash lights illuminated, car wouldn't start... After sitting for 25-30 minutes, the car started and left no trace of the issue... hasn't happened since). Mine E350 4Matic is a 2010 with 150,000 miles. I bought it in January 2022 and have put 6,200 miles on it. Hopefully, these few problems aren't indicative of what is to come. I love the car more than any vehicle I've owned. I hope to keep it indefinitely!
The low suspension thing seems to be normal, we have the E350 version of this car, and we went on holiday to Greece for about 10 days. We came back to the cars suspension dropping, car turned on and the suspension just raised to normal. It doesn't seem to be a bad thing, nor a good thing. Car just does it haha. Car is now comfortably sitting at almost 280k miles! Thing runs and sounds fantastic and like a rocket too. I definitely recommend putting a bit more cash into getting the E350 version compared to the E250.
@@blackhawk9601 Same goes, pretty sure the suspension setup is the same? When you get into the big boy V8s with the W212s, you tend to then run into problems, notably with the 6.2 V8 model which comes with some camshaft issues down the line if I recall correctly.
There are more other common faults on the 212 series. OM651, OM642,... Oil Cooler leakage on OM642 will hit everybody earlier or later. I got mine repaired last month for 1,5k € in Germany @ 260k km - it took 2 full days of work in the garage. Little hint: Wxxx are the saloons and Sxxx are the station waggons. The Airmatic (air suspension all around) is lovely!
OM651 owner here. 2 years of ownership, no issues except for Oil Cooler failing and leaking, throttle valve, DPF blockage. Apart from that, the car is a tank. 168.000KMS
add blocked roof drains resulting in car flooding during rainy season, the headlamp washer cover tends to get broken off while driving, transmission mount fails resulting in that vibration through the chassis while driving. also, you can reset the transmission if it's getting clunky especially on a car you're intending to purchase - takes less than 5mins versus endless driving just so the transmission can 'learn' your driving technique.
@@rashuntaylor257 here's a video I found online (there are others but basically the same process) showing how to reset the transmission - th-cam.com/video/UaTYawb1Yqk/w-d-xo.html hope it helps. Cheers!
I honestly disagree with this video im a tech and a owner of a w212 and i have well over 120k on my clock and i must say they are solid and they are very reliable. Oil change to oil change. I only put good quality parts back in my car and so far I've changed my waterpump and my battery and the command knob works on side to side instead on flying thru a selection but its a $50 fix which i haven't gotten around to.. in other words if i was given an option to buy a w212 again i would happily do so.
I have a 2010 E550 4Matic W212 US. Two years of ownership and I can attest to 2 of the problems listed. At 90k Airmatic failure(front struts replaced) 3K at MB dealership. Vehicle rising only lasts so long at some point it just completely failed. Also Engine mounts had to be replaced 1K at local independent MB shop. Another person mentioned the command wheel failing. Mine stopped functioning and replaced $250 at MB dealer. I LOVE the car, just sharing my experience. I would highly recommend warranty from reputable company. I paid 3K for my warranty about $4,500 in repairs so far covered.
Well! I can say that W212 parts are cheaper than W211 model. I'm currently considering the switch here to w212. Airbags problem for w211 as well, but i see mainly because older car... if never changed before. And it's the must to maintain the car regularly
I have a 150k e350 2012 sport estate since new. Faults 1) turbo failure 2) DPF every 30k wash and relace 3) air con blower failure 4) minor oil leak 5.) Corroding brake lines 6. Led light faulures but runs great with recon turbo. Air con fix easy. Hoping it reaches 200k great load lugger with towbar
the flat rear suspension on your w212 is from the rusted check valve located on the air compressor (the compressor does not have a water purge, water accumulates, rust cheap steel valve seat: slow air leak!
I can't believe I nailed that fix. Further more expect the Blower fan to jam, the longest wiper arm to come out loose, the brake rotors to disappear in dust, the engine crankcase breather to let oil go back into intake... a high maintenance princess for sure. 😏
You forgot to mention the 722.9 7 speed transmission. The conductor plate which is attached to the Transmission Control Unit tend to fail. First symptoms are rough shifting mainly from 1st to 2nd then soft limp mode until eventually completely goes into limp mode. Repair varies depending on the TCU. Anywhere for $1500 to $3000
A lot of 7g tronics and 7g tronic+ suffer from jerky shifting when cold but it doesn’t necessarily mean a conductor plate failure. It can be anything from oil to software, küb or other solenoids etc. or no fault whatsoever. It has happened even with new cars and Mercedes couldn’t fix them. I also have jerky 2-3 shifts when cold (7g+) but not all the time. Transmission oil was changed, küb valve was changed, adaptations made, tcu software updated, all possible tests done. It helped some but did not remove the problem completely. All values are as they should be and there is absolutely nothing different in measured parameters compared to other shifts. It’s just feels different for reasons unknown. MB garage or Mercedes Benz factory do not have any more ideas left and the conclusion was that it’s a ”feature”. The ”feature” has been there since new. Some people have had the whole transmission changed and it still jerks! Some people complain that even 9g tronics might jerk in similar way. Go figure...
@@tomivaananen8020 yeah 1st-2nd is always rough in the 722.9, but when the conductor plate or ism fails you definitely notice a delay in shifts before the workshop alerts begin to display
Once you experience air bag sag make sure to check the air tubes first. I once exchanged an air suspension bag only to find out that it wasn't the reason. In fact it was an air leak in the air line. money spent for nothing. I got the lines in a 5 meter roll from Miessler which is affordable compared to MB.
Also if you have 2011 or 2010 with m272/273 engine the intake manifold tumbler flaps break typically before 100k miles. This will store a fault in the m.e. control unit but will not through check engine light. If goes unrepaired the bushings inside intake will come apart and potentially get sucked throw the engine or get stuck in valves causing misfire. (intake alone is around $800). ( master Mercedes tech and w212 owner as well)
Only the plastic linkage breaks on the vacuum diaphragm, you can epoxy it, or buy replacement on eBay. Never heard of bushings getting sucked in to the cylinder head. But yes, very common problem on 272/273.
S212 2010 E350 CDI 160k miles (90k me) . Failed so far: Thermostat, Swirl Flaps (resistor bypass), ABS sensors, Front Wheel Bearings, Bonnet emblem nicked and replaced, Front DRL brackets cracked from impacts. Still the best car I've ever had - sooo comfortable to drive.
I’m in the process of replacing my airmatic compressor and the prices you’re throwing out are giving me nostalgia of the good ole’ days. $1,200 USD later…
Hello, I had the same problem and I took the car to the dealer. The first problem was leaking air from the pipe, two weeks after car went back and they replaced and one of the air suspension, however after that it was another issue with the rusty connection of the cables to the air pump.
I have just purchased an E Class coupe 220 for my wife, 49000 miles it drives like a dream. Have a friend that works for Mercedes and he has told me they are bulletproof
No disrespect intended but if an original mini had received the kind of attention to detail in the servicing at the dealers they would be bomb proof, never mind bullet proof, a very good car nevertheless.
Thank you. I have a 2011 E250 Estate (S212); in cold weather the rear suspension sinks overnight; when the weather is warmer this does not happen. I have had the car checked by a MB specialist garage, and they could find no fault showing during a computer interrogation, neither could they find any air leaks (soap solution sprayed over suspension components). Clearly air is still escaping, so a bit of a mystery. It takes 1 minute to pump up if the suspension has sunk, and since this is not yet a major probleem I do not want to spend money on replacing components that may actually be OK.
I have the iCarsoft MB scanner for my 2007 S550 W221. It notified me about why I was getting “airmatic malfunction” and that my original air pump was finally biting the dust. (Air recovery time too long filling reservoir. )
Most vehicle have issues that are a pain, but what a lot of people dont relise is how easy the mercedes are to work on. I have a chinese scanner that cost me £27 and is a good bit of kit having used it a few times on my troublesome 07 Iveco Daily 35C15, identifies and clears codes no problem.
I'm picking up my new used car on Saturday a 2012 Eclass 250cdi estate 1 owner 90K full Merc history liked your reviews and helped me decide which big estate to go for in my budget cheers, and been a northern lad not full of southern swagger
Have an e350. An absolute money pit. It's in the garage at the moment for a new rear sub frame, the MAF sensor is knackered, the DPF is shagged out, the EGR valve needs replacing. It's been serviced properly and looked after, but I can't afford to keep it.
I have owned 3 Mercedes e class estates 2 diesel 1 petrol the 2010 e250 cdi gave me 45k of trouble free motoring it had 68k on it when i first got it the rear suspension would drop from time to time until the pump failed at 112000 miles it also take out the power desterbution box which was more my fault the cost to repair was £845 using a after market pump which was £350 + vat the power box was £180 OEM plus vat plus fitting another fault that can happen is a slow coolant leak mine started at about 85k and every 6 to 8 weeks you would need to add a cupful of coolant if failed at 114k and it is the plastic manifold which also holds the fuel filter there is a seal from this part to the engine it is a lot of work to replace and costs about £350 to sort i now have the 2015 spec e220 cdi estate and i love it as i have all my mercs i get an easy 45 to 50 mpg out of it and have had it up to 58.6 mpg and i would say that the faults are just service life of the parts that failed
I have 2012 E220 w212 and I used it once or twice a month and on winter time when I put it on D and let it roll forward it shacks a bit but when the car has been on road for 1 hour and engine is hot you don’t feel anything when it changes the gear ⚙️
I have W212 Bluetec Hybrid (diesel/electric) with 249 000km without any major problem (only air sensor were dead- $45). The car was repaired only @ Mercedes qualified service and that's all guys! Within 6 years, I lost around 20% of capacity of lithium batteries. The only shit with that car is when I use drive assistant, the car tend to roll on the right white line while I prefer to roll near to left white line As far as I'm concern, I can recommend that car but I would like to know what is your experience with hybrid motor?
Just another promotional vlog. W212 is salon version with normal suspension. Your is S212 estate version with airmatic. My W212 from 2013 never had any issue !
Bonnet opening failed . . . I have a 2013 E Class W212 Saloon Sport. I had one issue when it was 5 years old, that I or my non Mercedes mechanic could not fix, was Opening the Bonnet. The Release moved and I could hear the cable moving under the bonnet. The bonnet would not release but the bonnet open light came on, on the dash (with beeping when driving). I took it to Mercedes who fixed it for around £225. I asked for the old catches back and both were still seized and locked closed !! Don't know how they removed them. Both catches had NO GREASE on them so I asked Mercedes, who service it, why no grease. They told me greasing them is not on the Mercedes list of servicing so we looked at a new car in the showroom and guess what, No Grease . . . DIY and Grease yours today before you have an avoidable bill !!
My 2010 E350 doesn’t have the smoothest downshift when coming to a red light and such. Not a complete jerking motion but it isn’t as smooth as it should be. Anybody with suggestions? I’ve heard if you service the transmission depending on how it’s been taken care of can be detrimental to the transmission itself due to underlying sediments and debris essentially being lifted from old fluid.
All of that stuff is pretty basic in common with any vehicle I would like to have the E350 without the ride suspension level kit the one I'm looking at don't have that I ride suspension
If your on a budget would you recommend this car if it has 100K plus on the clock, as I can only afford a high mileage model as I need a large car for family????
As others have mentioned the Command wheel can fail. The plastic shaft becomes brittle over time and snaps. However you can buy an aluminium one for about £25 and change it yourself. I'm no mechanic but I managed it witht he help of a couple of youtube videos.
I have an w212 e250. 84k miles no evidence of brake fluid flush, auto transmission service and coolant flush. When shall I get this done as the car drives perfect and is getting first service in a few days
Is this an add for scanners diagnostic tool diagnostic tool diagnostic tool had one for six years and absolutely none of these problems I'm off to buy a few scanners diagnostic tools
Hi I have just brought a E Class W212 and the sat nav seems to be located in a different area to me about 25 miles away and when I set a destination it starts of from there, is there a way to reset the sat nav or is it broken ? Also whenever I went past a speed limit sign it came up on my dash and now it’s doesn’t is this to do with my sat nav not working?
Got problem with mersedez benz E class 2009 blue efficient and got problem when you go on 8 miles per hour the car goes in parking ,check the abs and change the ignition but still same problem any ideas please, what can be?
Your car is S212 not a big difference but w212 (salon) does not come with air suspension apart from amg ones. One of the weakest link in this car is the timing chain on OM651 engine 200, 220, 250 cdi. This is a common problem at many premium brands like BMW 2.0d, VW-Audi TSI engines
Common problems: Water pump leak, ESL malfunction, most of the time it´s just a 5 dollar motor that needs to be replaced on these steering locks, but pain to replace.
what about the timing chain?ete e220cdi need to replace around 120k....big job...before(w211 only need replace around 500k) do you know the petrol versions are the same ?and the dpf need to replace around 150k....or need to remove....
John Gate1 I would not say I’m qualified enough to give you correct information I’m afraid. This car is on 156k, and on the original chain. It has been serviced by Mercedes official centres every service.
Thanks for finally posting this. Have been waiting for it since you bought the e-class . I can't decide should I buy w211 or w212. I owned w211 last updated 2008 version for 4 years. Had no problems whatsoever with it. By far the best car in my 14 years of owning cars. So over all your opinion is that, being a new model, w212 up to 2014 is not filled with all kinds of flaws and issues?
Valts Sedogubovs I also had the W211 which was a great car for me also but I do honestly think that this car is a much better car. There are certainly less ‘common problems’ to worry about on the 212
Between 211 and 212 there is a gap in favor of 212. If you want to buy diesel it is only v6, 4-matic is absolutely necessary, that makes the car ride like a train on rails.
No mention of balance shafts or air intake actuator lever breakage? Also the oil separator on the back of passenger side head should be replaced on higher mileage vehicles.
Possibly the gearbox needs reprogramming? It's clever, it learns your driving style. Easy to do,many vids on here that tell you how. You will be amazed at the change! I think you can reprogram from 03 onwards? w212 350 coupe cdi owner for over 9 years, 83k, never missed a beat. Rear discs just changed at 83k and about to fit the 2nd set of fronts. Usual tyres, but apart from a passenger side door locking motor and a battery after it was 10 yrs old, just decent fuel v power or similar. Hi. Thank you for the video. A quick question: is it safe to driver my Mercedes with the air suspension being low/damaged to my mechanic's garage about a mile away from me?
Excellent review, i am in the process of buying W212 E220, and it helps a great deal, however i will look to see if its coil springs or air suspension. UPDATE 2 years after purchase, I had to replace all coil springs OUCH ! the the rear subframe FAILED it had corroded through from the inside a major failure and known fault, Mr Mercedes replaced free of charge but stung me for new brake pipes and springs. I have been chasing an engine management light for a few months its a real pain. and the only other thing I've notice are the rear brake disc covers are corroded with holes in them. Plus a slight oil leak from the cam cover gasket. Thats my update after two years, Its a pleasure to drive when everything is working
@@zeldous1915 the car has covered 214000kms, they are known to easily go to 500,000 fingers crossed. The same year C class also suffers from the rear subframe failing. As i write the car is at Mercedes, since the subframe change there is a clonk from the back end every time i go over the bump, they have had the car two days and cant find out whats wrong, also i asked them to look at that engine management light, they told me its the low boost pressure switch, i replied i have already changed that Perhaps the dpf is blocked ???
@@williamkennedy5492 Thanks for the reply, since i last posted this messaage I was heavily leaning torwards the W212 but ended up getting a W204 which surprisingly has been a very very reliable car even at around 250,000KM. Yea, same Gearbox,... Just change the fluid and filter and/or drive it on risk, but normaly nothing bad happens. If you bought it new, you should reset the Gearbox Settings. There are some videos about it out!

I've got a w212 manual. It's done 165k + miles. The only things I had changed was the clutch when I got it at 120k (I made the dealership change it) I changed the water pump as it was leaking. I changed the battery also and that's it.
The car is solid !
Do you still have ?

Estate Wagon = W212 T Modell. 🤷♂️ T steht für Transporter.
I only ran into two problems:
smoke started billowing out of the engine bay on my way home from the dealer - not a problem, one of the dealer workers didn't fully seat the dipstick,
and the tire refill stem on the rear driver side wheel sheared off from prior corrosion - a free fix from a local tire shop.
Thanks for that.

To be honest those are not the most common problems... #1 Oil leaks, #2 Fuel pump, and #3 Exhaust Pressure Sensor on Diesel 👌🏼
Well this is just a badly covered up promotion for diagnostic world isnt it - and I didnt need a scanner to see that blatant fault.
Other common issue is comand control unit scroll knob not scrolling left or right and Fading wood grain
You can easily replace the plastic defective pin that controls the knob and get a metal one at that. Cheap and fixed.

Engine mounts most likely
I bought mine new in 2012 and its still in perfect order and looking like new today. Its OK to drive, but it has tremendous hauling capacity for a wagon. My 2.6 meter Edge fuselage fits nicely with the rudder between the seats. Its a beautiful car. The front end is aggressive but handsome. The rear alignment is a challenge. I have Hardrace camber arms to put on as I look for a precision obsessed alignment shop.
For No.2 ESP/ABS warning light on, that's the wheel speed sensor. "Right front axle rpm sensor"
Commonly seen on M270 engines for some reason, rare on any other models
I have a that car in coupe format. Nice to know not much outside maintenance to worry about. I service at Mercedes and change the gear box oil every 30k instead of 60k as guided. She runs on V-power diesel on every fill up. Clean and powerful E350d.

@@Truthfullyspoken66 not sure. Mercedes upgraded the seal material. I don't know if this was during manufacture or after
add blocked roof drains resulting in car flooding during rainy season, the headlamp washer cover tends to get broken off while driving, transmission mount fails resulting in that vibration through the chassis while driving.

It takes 1 minute to pump up if the suspension has sunk, and since this is not yet a major probleem I do not want to spend money on replacing components that may actually be OK.

you need to educate yourself ..this should be "what has broken on my car because im too thick to have checked before i bought it"
Oh my days lol, but true.
I have W212 Bluetec Hybrid (diesel/electric) with 249 000km without any major problem (only air sensor were dead- $45). The car was repaired only @ Mercedes qualified service and that's all guys! Within 6 years, I lost around 20% of capacity of lithium batteries.
The only shit with that car is when I use drive assistant, the car tend to roll on the right white line while I prefer to roll near to left white line
As far as I'm concern, I can recommend that car but I would like to know what is your experience with hybrid motor?
Check the rear level sensors live data ...disconnect them from the suspension arm and move the little arm around and see if the data is correct....
t2p thanks I’ll give that a try.
Dropping of car airbag/airsprings at all corner is normal in cold weather when car has sitting over long period >6hrs especially in temperature
Just another promotional vlog. W212 is salon version with normal suspension. Your is S212 estate version with airmatic.
My W212 from 2013 never had any issue !
Nice drive around Whickham and Metro Centre there! Thanks for this. I am purchasing a high mileage W212 E350 and this was helpful.
Air suspension is lovely but costly to fix. Think I'll stick to standard
thank you im at 74-80k miles now and Mercedes recommended engine mount to be replaced.. they estimated me $1,600 USA
LMAO
Lol. 300$ tops. Easily done with right tools. Autohaus should be around 250-400$
Did you go to Dick Turpin the Highway Robbery stealership. There are many more sharks swimming out of the sea. 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈
All of that stuff is pretty basic in common with any vehicle I would like to have the E350 without the ride suspension level kit the one I'm looking at don't have that I ride suspension
Can you show us a Video on how to update NAVI W212/2010? I would like to thank you in advance...
Had the gear stick come out in my hand while driving plastic ring at the base shattered and fell in to the gear selector
I have an w212 e250. 84k miles no evidence of brake fluid flush, auto transmission service and coolant flush. When shall I get this done as the car drives perfect and is getting first service in a few days
Excellent Video so I have Subscribed!!!
Is this an add for scanners diagnostic tool diagnostic tool diagnostic tool had one for six years and absolutely none of these problems I'm off to buy a few scanners diagnostic tools
Hi can u tell me what the c is for on my centrel resevation is for e220 2.143 cc 2012 estate
i just got e350 and its monster family car
Hi I have just brought a E Class W212 and the sat nav seems to be located in a different area to me about 25 miles away and when I set a destination it starts of from there, is there a way to reset the sat nav or is it broken ? Also whenever I went past a speed limit sign it came up on my dash and now it’s doesn’t is this to do with my sat nav not working?
Got problem with mersedez benz E class 2009 blue efficient and got problem when you go on 8 miles per hour the car goes in parking ,check the abs and change the ignition but still same problem any ideas please, what can be?
Trans chain tensioner is a BIG one on these.
The biggest problem with this car is the om651 engine e200cdi/220cdi/250cdi... Chain problems on cold start rattling / injectors and etc...
ure so right bro i just bought e350 but i wanted e220 so i heard about those problems and. i got 350 they got no problems
Mir S i was thinking to buy a 250 cdi but i hear too chain problems and i dont know is more reliability 350 cdi?
Yea your right with #5 that happens in the w211 also.
Is there any way to fix it or do just let it be?
Your car is S212 not a big difference but w212 (salon) does not come with air suspension apart from amg ones.
One of the weakest link in this car is the timing chain on OM651 engine 200, 220, 250 cdi. This is a common problem at many premium brands like BMW 2.0d, VW-Audi TSI engines
Airmatic suspension is an option on both s and w 212 cars
W212 E550 Sedan also have airmatic suspension not just the AMG
Common problems:
Water pump leak,
ESL malfunction, most of the time it´s just a 5 dollar motor that needs to be replaced on these steering locks, but pain to replace.
#6. Dpf pressure sensor another well known issue.
Solving?
I replaced
what about the timing chain?ete e220cdi need to replace around 120k....big job...before(w211 only need replace around 500k) do you know the petrol versions are the same ?and the dpf need to replace around 150k....or need to remove....
very informative video thank you !
Cam gear cooling system rear differential also have problems
I'd be concerned about the timing chain ans sprockets
The Bushing also have the tendency to go at 35,000 miles making it impossible to balance and align the tires car.
No.. They dont. If your Steering is correctly set up you wont need a bearing and/or bushing in like 30 Years and 400kkm.
Do you remember if you replaced all (tie rods and bushings)?
very honest review, thanks. Just wondering are there any issues with the timing chain on these cars? Does the chain need to be replaced at 100k miles?
John Gate1 I would not say I’m qualified enough to give you correct information I’m afraid. This car is on 156k, and on the original chain. It has been serviced by Mercedes official centres every service.
Thanks
Excellent video content! Thank you!
Was thinking of moving to m Benz, but going to stay with jags 😊
Have you or can you do a video for a C220/250 CDI thanks
Possibly the gearbox needs reprogramming? It's clever, it learns your driving style. Easy to do,many vids on here that tell you how. You will be amazed at the change!
I think you can reprogram from 03 onwards? w212 350 coupe cdi owner for over 9 years, 83k, never missed a beat. Rear discs just changed at 83k and about to fit the 2nd set of fronts. Usual tyres, but apart from a passenger side door locking motor and a battery after it was 10 yrs old, just decent fuel v power or similar. Oh, like a twat, i put in petrol a month ago, i drove it 25 miles(long story),but after tank pumped within 3 hrs, it was as good as new. Remapping got rid(almost) of the lag.
E 200 CDI...IN 300.000 KM...The engine will hit.I have the experience over time as taxi driver. You will remember me...and the biggest biggest issue is DPF(kills the engine)
Can we delete the dpf and run the car , throw away and not using it
@@johnysilvester8483 Υes we can but its illegal. If they check you and missing the penalti(fine) is huge.
Had the engine mounts go the clutch go the master slave cy go the gear stick came out in my hand while driving my screams could be heard a mile away there are no words
Hi I have the icarsoft 180 I've had it for older mercedes. Will it work on the w212? Cheers
My 2011 is amazing and I have a two year warranty so I'm not to worried
Hi. Thank you for the video. A quick question: is it safe to driver my Mercedes with the air suspension being low/damaged to my mechanic's garage about a mile away from me?
Can problem number 5 be solved by changing the automatic transmission fluid regularly ?
I think all automatic boxes fluid must be changed at 60000km, with fiters.
How many kms did the e class have and how is it going for you so far?
I've barely had to fix anything on it besides filters, brakes and just a broken sensor.
My headlight left hand gone they told me I need to replace new one
Very helpful, thank you
Does problem number 5 effect facelift models?
Yea, same Gearbox,...
Just change the fluid and filter and/or drive it on risk, but normaly nothing bad happens.
If you bought it new, you should reset the Gearbox Settings. There are some videos about it out!
