My most productive tech this year has been my iPad Pro 12.9 with m1. Talk about filling the gaps, this device is like a bridge that keeps me working and learning when I am not at my desk. Happy New Year!
So true; I use the heck out of mine!
I imagine the 12.9 it is honestly. I have the 11 m1, I try to use it as much as I can but sometimes the screen is too small to be honest! In particular for the reduced size of the keyboard
Using 11’ 2020 version, but recently started thinking about bigger version. Is 12.9 version not too big and heavy?
Having dilemma, any suggestions? 🙃
@@arturstepkovskyi3569 I don't think so, even with the Magic Keyboard.
@@arturstepkovskyi3569 the size and weight are great 4 me. But this is my first ipad so i have nothing else to compare it to. I also use it as a second monitor when i am on location recording podcasts with clients so the 12.9 is great for this use.
My kindle. I love that I can pop my phone away and just read, I have the app on my phone but being able to disconnect from “tech” is so important sometimes. I love a standard book but being able to have 1000’s of options to read on the go is just so convenient.
My most productive and fun tech piece I got in 2023 is my iPad mini, it's so good. I use it for uni, personal life, travel and gaming. I read a lot, and it's such a good size that is similar to a Kindle, but has way more versatility, which makes it an especially perfect companion while traveling, where I try to limit the things I bring and this iPad can fulfill many roles.
I’m hoping a new iPad mini with promotion drops soon. I love the small size of it so much more than the bigger iPads.
@@TheLiamThackersadly no ipad mini this year 🥲
Same here. Best device purchased so far. Got mine in Jan 2022. I really love it - very portable, so light, so powerful. And the price today is still the same as when i bought it. 😊
Your videos just get better and better. Love your stuff. Really appreciate you starting off with some things you just couldn’t get behind. The honesty is refreshing. Looking forward to more of your content in 2024!
Thank you! Glad you liked the video
Just found your video's today and thought I'd say fair play! Love your chilled delivery style and honesty. Subscribed and wish you every success in 2024!
Hey thanks! Welcome to the channel :)
Interesting about the XM4s. I recently picked some up, and the noise cancellation is really something. I managed to get them sounding pretty good after a bit of tweaking. The sound out of the box sounds too muddy.
For me, the sound is good when commuting. I find myself enjoying them when in a noisy environment, and wanting to use something else (Audio Technica) when in a quiet place.
what did you do to make them sound better?
@@martinpereza I raised the bass slider thing one click. 2.5k +2, 6.3k +3, 16k +2. This just seems to open them up a bit and bring out some of the instruments/vocals.
@@martinpereza I love those settings:
400 hz: +1/ 1k: +4 / 2.5k: +7 / 6.3k: +7 / 16k: +5
clear bass: -5
same
Man the AirPods Pro 2 are insane.
I bought some this year because I had saved some money at Apple. I’ve never used a pair of headphones/ earbuds as much as these. They sound great, have amazing features and the noise cancellation is silly good.
I bring them everywhere I go
Same. Probably the best purchased value I’ve made in 2023.
@@andrecrispim3209 Theyre not cheap, but for me theyve been amazing value.
If i bought Sony's or something id have pribably not used them much because of the integration being 3rd party and clunky.
Air pods are soooo easy to use, and just make city life better
I’ve been contemplating the Peak Design bag for years but just never went for it.. your comments are exactly what’s kept me back!
I honestly enjoy it, ive been using it in college for a while now
Hey man, great content. Don’t know if this is the place for it but I have a request for you:
I’ve seen some of your videos and I really like your approach to storytelling + visuals/design.
I’d love a video about how you approach this things, creativity, or just your content in general. What elements or visual aspects you consider before, what you make on the go, what you love for post production.
Anyways, I understand you’re probably with a full schedule to be doing videos by request but I think many of us would love to know more about your thoughts on content in general, and your content in particular.
Thanks for the work, you seem like a great guy
I’m currently living up in the Sacred Valley, Peru. I run my small business from my iPad Pro. Switching from laptops is one of the best recent decisions I’ve made. Being able to go paragliding in the mountains, come back and edit footage with FCP for iPad is pure heaven for me. My Airpods Max and Steam Deck are my other favourites.
Amazing! Tempted by the AirPods max now!
That sounds so awesome what do you do for a living?
Hi did you go with the 11" or 12.9"? I'm hoping to do a bit of work while travelling also
First time in the channel. Great video, gave me good examples and interperations about the products and inspired me about how I can improve my work, workspace and living places.
Welcome to the channel, glad you liked the video!
Great video!
My best purchases have been the Xbox Series S in February for 249€ + GamePass. After many years not gaming much if at all, the XSS has gotten me back to gaming and I love this little beauty.
I also love my MBA15, which is my second Apple product and love this thing, top notch quality.
And I'm also loving my Pixel Watch 2 in combination with my trusted Pixel 6a.
XSS is such a good price for a console, that’s the Xbox I have and it’s awesome
Something to try If you haven’t, all the retro games on the miyoo can be put on the steam deck plus more. It can also play switch games and you can remote play your ps5.
I got the vesa mount based on one of your videos and it’s been a splendid addition. It’s really changed how I work, and I never thought that just picking up my iPad to do something else would now be such a labour without it. Perfect.
Glad to hear that, it's a really nice addition to a setup!
I stand with you about Peak Design Everyday Backpack! I regret buying it every time I use it 😅
It’s so annoying!
I love your content. Thank you!!!!
The peak design bag inside is adjustable! Just pull the tabs out and put them back the way you want to with the velcro.
Very good list. Happy holidays! 😊
I did some upgrades too this year:
I kept my iPad Air 4 with the Apple Pencil 2nd Generation, however;
I switched my old trusty Poco F1 for the iPhone 15
AirPods Pro 1st Gen to AirPods Pro 2nd Gen
Mi Band 5 to the Apple Watch Series 9 45mm (what an upgrade)
Canon EOS4000D to the Canon EOS6D
Kept my Sony XM4 as with some tweaking I got them sounding just as I wanted them (though sound is subjective)
I think that’s it, to be honest. I rarely change my tech, but this time exceptions had to be made XD.
Really enjoyed this video. Short concise and to the point. You picked alot of good stuff. Also production quality is really good. Like and subbed
thanks! welcome to the channel!
Regarding the peak design backpack, I’d highly recommend reconfiguring the inside of the bag; the whole interior is Velcro, allowing you to change the space and size to your needs. You shouldn’t have any issues with things rolling around if you do that 👍
Tried this a few times but still can’t seem to get things to feel safe and secure in there 😩
I got the Peak Design Everyday 30, and I'm not crazy in love with the bag like I wanted to be. It's fine and has a lot of features, but it's a pain for everyday shooting if you're dipping in and out to change lenses. I picked up the Think Tank Retrospective 20 for my daily shooting and, so far, I am loving it. I am probably going to reconfigure the Peak Design into a non-photographer bag and use it that way. Also, I feel like a bit like a Koopa Troopa while wearing it.
It's so difficult to find a nice looking camera bag that's practical, affordable and doesn't scream "I'm a camera bag, rob me!"
I don't play my switch enough! Really need to get back to it
Great video thx
I thought i was the only one that felt the same way about the PD backpack….its so well loved by all
Great video. I'm loving my iPhone 15 pro max and of course I've been in love with my iPad mini since I got it 2 years ago!
Great video!!
ipad Air M1 is definitely my most productive tech being a Med student I use it for taking notes, reading pdfs and even for entertainment.
Airpods pro with ANC is also great
I have an M1 iPad Air too and it’s fantastic! As a student it’s such great value, perfect balance between a powerful and modern up-to-date design but functional. Use it for all sorts of things like you said!
Must say that as much as the AirPods Pro v2 are superb, I got some Bose QC Ultra buds and I love them. Their noise cancelling is great but I use them when out walking and the aware mode is very good indeed, And I find them just a little bit more comfortable than the AirPods. Still use the AirPods when not out and about but for me (listening mainly to podcasts and talking books) the Bose edge it and I'm very happy with that purchase.
Nice, I'll have to check them out if my airpods ever decide to pack in again!
Dope ass video Tom. Really dig your A-roll. Just picked up the Miyoo mini, I've been eyeing it for a while. Cheers brotha
Thanks man! Hope you enjoy the Miyoo !
This year I got myself an iPad Air 5 a with the Apple Pencil 2, and those two together have been so amazing for plenty of different reasons (getting organized, doing schoolwork, playing different mobile games, or just chilling and watching movies or TH-cam videos). The only thing about the Air is that I wished that it had the face ID too, but otherwise - great! I also got AirPods Pro 2, and they are amazing! I find myself always wanting to use them instead of other earbuds or headphones. The sound quality is just amazing. And lastly, for my birthday, my parents got me an Apple Watch SE, and it stays on my “eh” side. I am a swimmer, and the new Apple Watches are great for using when swimming. Except, what I had forgotten, the SE is an older model with a new chip, so my watch is not capable of going deep in the water or staying submerged in the water for a long time. So my watch got damaged but luckily didn’t break fully, but now my microphone doesn’t work and my battery isn’t as good. But I find that when I don’t have my watch on, is that I severely miss it. Being to see a whole bunch of information at one glance is amazing, also, I can’t go 2 minutes without checking the time lol.
The OLED Steam deck is absolutely amazing!
I got myself the iPad pro 4th gen based on your reviews and used Goodnotes (also thanks to you), and it really made my job easier! I’m a psychologist and I do all my client process notes as well as psychometric assessments on my ipad.
Does Goodnotes allow you to make a baa? I’ve been looking for a hipaa compliant iPad note taking app
@@biohazdan not sure what a baa is, but I can make notes and keep them in a secure cloud. I have also shared notes in pdf with clients. Only thing that sucks is you cannot export the sound recording
@@shrink0001a baa is a business associate agreement and you need one with any entity that possesses or stores protected health information, like psychotherapy notes. You would need one to use goodnotes for keeping session notes. The baa tells good notes what they can and can’t do with the data you are storing on their servers.
May I ask what size of iPad you use?
@@lennardvonstein5143 I use the 11 inch 256Gb
Great video Tom :)
My one regret of the year is buying the iPhone 14 just before the 15 came out at the same price. I say "just" but it was long enough to be out of the return period. My base 14 is an excellent phone but I'll always have this nagging feeling that I missed something. My best purchase of the year was a refurbished M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14 (16GB/1TB). I absolutely love that thing.
M1 Pro MBP is such a crazy good laptop, I have the base model and it handles everything I need for the channel!
You're not missing out on the iPhone 15. iPhone 15 is a legitimate scam.
should’ve went for the 13 pro, they’re almost the same
Amazing vid
Totally agree about the Airpods Pro 2, I was using the original airpods since launch and asided from the battery life starting to really suffer they were still great; that is until my dog ate one of them lol. Instantly purchased the Pro 2 and they are amazing, sound quality is great along with all of the new features. When the first pair lasted me five years buying a the newest pro model was a no brainer.
Me : I appreciate the honesty and breakdown of your video.
Also Me : The shirt with the cute duck, I want it lol
haha thank you, tee is from strom 🦆
I had the XM4s for about a year, and it wasn't the sound that I disliked, it was how flimsy they felt. That paired with the inability to turn off the irritating "Power On" and "Bluetooth Connected" prompts. Once I noticed them I couldn't stand it. I switched to the Bose QC Ultra which I aboslutely love.
the XM4s have always been the headphones i want to get, paired with an pad mini, would be a great friday productivity setup
Feel the exact same about my peak design sling; everyone loves it, so i bought it online. But shit rattles around a lot because there is no squish factor to the dividers or bag, and the overall bag is just incredibly stiff despite a year of use so far, which makes pulling my camera out a pain as the stiff clamshell design means it never just 'opens' its always trying to stay closed making it real hard to reach in and grab smaller items or bumping and twisting lenshoods, pulling lens caps off and so on.
Nice video, very chill and relaxed vibes. What keyboard do you use? You didn't mention it but it looks very cool in your set up
The Xm4s are literally the best headphones I’ve ever heard. Idk maybe its a preference thing but the bass is so much better on Sony headphones
I have the same issue with the peak design bag. Honestly it's fav bag for everything except camera gear 😆
set this eq in the sony app (it will be remembered in the headphones even when you listen through cable) and enjoy amazing sound with your xm4 : ) (I have xm3 but xm4 have the same characteristic)
400 hz: +1/ 1k: +4 / 2.5k: +7 / 6.3k: +7 / 16k: +5
clear bass: -5
enjoy : )
Great video bro!
Thanks for stopping by dude! 🙏🏻
Thank you for your honest review. I’m not a fan of the Sony XM4s either and sold them not long after I got them too. I prefer Soundcore’s headphones to Sony’s.
My absolute best Tech of the Year is the Apple Studio Display and the Steam Deck Oled.
This was one of my favourite videos by far, loved hearing what you enjoyed but also what you didn't. The iPhone 15 Pro and the AirPods Pro Gen 2 have been my tech highlights too, the upgrade has been phenomenal, as you said.
I've been on the fence for a Switch OLED for a while, but I think that I'll pick one up. I've been wanting to get into handheld gaming for a while as my commute & flights involve lots of time to kill. What other games would you suggest I pick up?
Katana Zero, underrated and addictive
Definitely get Into the Breach, Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, and Balatro. I can't gush about these games enough and they are excellently bite-sized for traveling
I’ve got the peak design 30L for about a year now and it’s absolutely my favourite bag so far. I do agree that stuff does float in it a bit if the Velcro dividers aren’t configured exactly right. I have used it with canon eos r6m2 and a 45-105 lens and it’s secure enough for that specific setup. But since I mostly just use it to carry my laptop and tech stuff I just put my chargers and other tech accessories in a tech pouch and throw it in and it’s fine.
I always wanted a Sony XM4. I actually saved some money for it but I had to spend it on more important matters. I'll try to earn and save money again so next year I hope to get it already
Enjoyed
I bought an Oled switch/new Beats Studio Pros, and a Kindle all things I’ve been using a lot this year
I agree with the Sony XM4 one. I bought myself a XM5 thinking that it might be my "endgame" to my audiogear. I love the design it's very lightweight and the ANC is probably the best on the market but i just couldn't get past the sound character. Too muddy, warm, and mumbled for my liking. Coming from Audio Technica m50x with bright and v-shaped sound signature, using the XM5 felt like cheaper headphones despite it cost almost twice as much. So i returned them and bought myself the ATH m50xbt2.
I love your videos. This channel is one of the channels that I became familiar with, this year. I enjoy all your content a lot. Can you tell me which watch you are wearing in the video?
Thanks! And sure, it’s a Nomos Club Campus
Literally just picked up my AirPods gen 2 and it is a real difference. I was pleasantly surprised
So good right?
Well, right now, wired headphones sounds better for sure.
When I want to listen music with somewhat better clarity in comparison to qc-45, I choose wired headphones. It not even the best ones, Sennheiser 280 pro, but man, it sounds much better.
Someone finally calling out the sony xm4's for their awful bass emphasis makes me happy, the xm4ms remind me of old Beats headphones
I dig the Nomos - great watch, nice strap choice.
Thanks, love Nomos
Hi! Nice video! I'm gonna buy the iPad capture right away.
Also, which keyboard are you using? I'm talking about the black one that is here at 2:38.
Greetings from Argentina :)
I love my steam deck OLED
Great video Tom
Favorite pickups of last year (2023) were:
16" mbp (m2 pro) *don't need the computing power but wanted the bigger and better screen plus don't upgrade my laptop often anyway
Marshall middleton *a little heavy for a portable bt speaker but packs a punch for its size
Evergoods civic travel bag 26 (phoenix 2) *not tech but carries all my tech
This year the sennheiser momentum 4, complements my airpods pro 2 nicely (would have preferred the px8 but could not justify the price difference with my limited use case). Not the best ANC but decent enough as long as media is playing, have yet to try on a plane. One of the best sounding if not the best in this price range.
Looking to pick up the steamdeck oled as well for portable gaming. The idea of handheld gaming is appealing. Much easier than having to take out a laptop and controller on the road. Like the gameboy back in the day as kids.
Btw I think having the switch oled, steam deck oled and the emulator is redundant as the deck can handle what the other two do as well.
The aesthetic in your video is clean! I need to know how you do it! How all your tech looks very clean! Do you already have a video on it?
thank you! and no I don't have a video on how I do it as such
I hated the XM4s, but bought the XM5s and messed with the EQ and now I can't use anything else. I was under the impression that they weren't particularly different sounding headphones, as well, but here we are!
No way, that different are they?!
@@ByteReview YMMV but for me I was able to get them to sound the way I wanted quite easily!
One big thing to note btw is sony headphones (especially the wf/wh series) are heavily dependant on ldac. Make sure youre using a device with support for ldac and is actually USING it and youll see why the wf/wh series shine SO much. I literally cried it was such a colorful new experience for me, trust me on this man i have so many hours put into the wh-1000xm4 AND the wf-1000xm4
If I’m just using an iphone and Spotify is this possible?
@@ByteReview you can buy an ldac adapter for your phone if you’re willing to do only wired for your connection. Or if you use a PC you can lookup ‘alternate a2dp driver’ which is an audio driver for windows/mac that lets you use ldac on supported BT devices. The audio codec is stupid to obtain but it’s sonys ONE step over other headphones unfortunately
Cool Video
I 100% agree with you with regards to the Sony XM4’s, I bought a pair after my Sennheiser PXC 550’s died after 5 years of solid use. These things sound like shit compared to the PXC550’s. I had to muck around with the eq which I usually never touch just to get something half decent. I also have constant connectivity issues when switching to a new device, I basically have to tap the headphones in my Bluetooth device list whilst simultaneously turning them on to make sure they actually connect, otherwise they just turn on and don’t connect to anything. Will never make the mistake of leaving Sennheiser again.
11:06 ok great tech fun and all yea. But that laputa poster🤩
For the Miyoo Mini Plus, get a hard shell grip case like the palm fun one. Absolute game changer
I will look into this, I like it mainly cause it’s so small though!
Samsung ViewFinity / M8 Monitor is where it's at for a hybrid setup for me.
I got iPad 10th gen 10.9, Totk oled switch, iPhone 13 Pro, and AirPod pro 2. For my electronics rn
I wish I would have waited to pick up the Steam Deck OLED, I play that a lot more handheld than I do my Switch, hence why I didn’t pick up a Switch OLED! Great video as always ✨💙✨
Thanks!
I love that Carhart wallet
Boundary Prima System backpack is lightyears ahead of any backpack on the market
I also using the iPhone SE 3 for school
Yep, XM4s are controversial. While people often give them positive reviews, many also admit that their sound could be better. I recently got a pair myself and their sound really has disappointed me a bit. They have a distinctive sound signature that isn't exactly to my liking. At one point I even considered returning them, but ANC was my top priority and their ANC is truly powerful while still being very comfortable. I love it!
I have the same experience with the Sony headphones. I bought them and did not understand the praise they are getting, because I could not enjoy the sound
Hello byte, I love your content and it feel amazing ❤.
Ques- when you going to make what's on my iPhone 2023 or 2024?
I’m sure it’ll come!
@@ByteReview thank you byte and best wishes for 2024 ♥️.
I want new ipad Minis to come out so badly, I feel like 750 for this one is just a lot right now.
My ipad pro is great, but for things like reading it is a bit large. While my phone (14 pro max) is a bit small for it
Love your videos Tom! Could you tell me what font you use for your thumbnails?
does the usb-c to hdmi dongle work on a MacBook as well? In my case an m1 MacBook Air.
On the magflott vesa mount it looks like it's only for the ipad yet on your desktop it also holds the screen I don't know how you did that or am I missing something? otherwise I like your very clean setup!
Great video! Btw what mounting gear u have? Any recommendations for people that would like to have their cameras in front of their faces for recordings like u but still have an option to hide it and avoid clutter?
It's just on a tripod 😅
@@ByteReview but there are many tripods ;) anyway, tripod + a big lens would make the setup too close to the face so it wouldnt work
Grest video!
Hey man nice setup! Which monitor is that?
Sad you didn't enjoy your Peak Design bag. I have an Everyday 20L, Sling 10L, and 45L Travel Backpack. These 3 bags have taken me across the globe while protecting my camera equipment and have honestly become some of the most important pieces of gear that I own.
Wish I liked it, I really do!
I enjoyed this video a lot thanks to the chillness of you, your voice, and everything. Sadly the rest of your videos are only about Apple products which I don't care about, or else I'd have subscribed instantly. I wish you featured other gadgets more frequently!
Glad you enjoyed the video, and I’m branching out a little more this year so maybe see you in a non-Apple related video soon
Subscribing right now haha. Keep it up with the amazing work!
I actually recently picked up the XM4s during the 12.12 sales and I’ve been loving it so far. It beats my Bose qc45 though with the intuitive controls.
I honestly think mine are just a duff unit or something! I wish I liked them!
Aw… yeah considering it’s a pretty dated model. Some speculations of the XM6 releasing in 2024, maybe you can try those
I love my Sony Mx2 and Mx5
I love this little end of year wrap up! My problem with the XM4’s were just discomfort. I can’t handle the pressure point on the top of my head. I used to have problems with that and thought I’d give it a shot again, but no go. AirPods Pro can’t be beat in that regard. I also played my Switch in handheld mode more this year than any year prior combined since I got the OLED TOTK model. I love the system so much.
OLED is the move on switch!
Really wish there’s a OLED switch lite, it’s a far more portable device
RMA your XM4s - they sound great when the EQ is adjusted - either you're using terrible audio sources or something is physically wrong with them.
Just return the Sonys and get a replacement pair. I suspect a manufacturing error. I doubt the whole model line is bad.
I never understood the hype around the peak design bag. The fact that everything jiggles, you don't have access to everything all at once, you have to memorize which side you put things. I almost got the bag but the price alone was setting me back already.
Yeah the hype was real, I honestly thought it looked great (hence the purchase) but it’s just not for me at all. To eBay with it!
Love the aesthetic thumbnail 💚 (haven't watched the video yet lol)
Would love a links to buy all of your wall art!
very interesting, I have been looking for mini emulators but they all tend to have bad reviews. was interesting to hear the Miyoo is worth checking out
Oh they're fantastic. I did not expect mine to end up so heavily and frequently used when I bought it lol.
If you do get a retro emulator of some sort, make sure to get a proper microSD card for it and download yourself a nice rom library like Done Set for the best experience.
Damn the m4 ?? lol I love those headphones
Hi Byte,
I was curious, what is the name of the Ipad stand you are using at 4:54 in the video?
Love your content, keep up the good work 🫶💪
Thanks! It's the Lab 22 one from Moment & Sara Dietschy
Hey! Just saying I would like a “reviewing your desk setup” video! Btw nice video, where have you filmed it? It seems like a new background
He did one about 3 months ago: "I Built my DREAM Aesthetic Office & Desk Setup!" (I can't post the link...).
@@gr-os4gd yeah I know thanks tho
Do you mean me reviewing other peoples setups? I'm keen to do that again! And nope, just a different area of the new studio :)
@@ByteReview oh wow thank you for the answer! Big fan
