This is kind of like doing rocket science over the phone. Lol. First place I would start is making sure the external leaks are fixed, and do an exhaust gas vapor test. It’s a kit you can buy that uses a chemical that changes color when exhaust bubbles out of your coolant. Then I would make sure there isn’t any water in my oil, or any coolant consumption. If there is, then you need to do a leak down test to find out what cylinder it’s coming from. I’m not a mechanic though so my advice is nothing more than where I would start, not advice at all on how to fix the problem. So do with it what you will. Good luck.

Wow...I'm amazed at the results! I recently bought a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport from a mechanic my son knows 5 weeks ago. I failed to learn about the maintenance cuz mechanic was driving it to and from work. FIVE weeks later the air conditioner started blowing hot air, overheated and stalled in traffic. Mechanic says most likely it has blown head gasket. Must be internal he says. I want more proof and your video is teaching me what to do. I do not want to pay $1500.00 when I bought it for $950. I told him to use a gasket sealant. Not sure what kind. I'm trying to decide how to approach mechanic. It was running close to high on temp gage when I bought it. Oil reserves were normal. Not sure if it was clouded. Gonna go in person to ask lots of questions Blue Devil worked for your car and hoping it'll work on mine. Thanks for your hard work and expertise!
if it was me.. i would disconnect the hoses from the rad and connect them together ... take out the t-stat , then use flat clamps to pinch the hoses in and out of the heater lines... this way the bluedevil can circulate to the head gasket without bloacking anything else
I think i have a headgasket issue on my 2010 FX35 with 170K miles on it... while it works fine, i lose coolant, but no clear signs of what could it be. No weird smell, no white creamy oil, nothing... the coolant goes into the reservoir but doesn't get sucked back into the engine when the engine cools, i need ot at least once a week siphon the coolant form the reservoir and put back into radiator. Strange, will get a Head Gasket tester kit.

From my reading and watching, you are not supposed to use any silicate product where it mixes with the oil. You will likely do that engine swap much sooner than anticipated.
So you would spend $3000-$6000 instead of $30 on a car or truck that is only worth $3000-$4000 and has 160,000 miles on it? That makes absolutely no sense! If your going to spend that money, then you should just use that $3000-$6000 for a down payment for a newer vehicle.
It ran when I pulled the engine a couple months ago. It had around 7,000-8,000 on it daily driving for about a year. I was only using this for two reasons. 1 I was very curious if it would actually work. I had read it worked great so I figured I’d give it a shot. 2. I was only hoping I could get this engine to last long enough to be able to gather parts for an LQ4 4l80e swap, and it did, without issue. My brother used it in an old Dodge 318, and it worked for around 6,000 miles then it let go. With that said, I would never use it as a permanent solution. I think it’s a fantastic option to get you out of a bind. If you’re stranded on the side of the road, or need you vehicle to get you by until you can afford to have it fixed correctly, or be able to have more time to get the job done.
@@ChadLisonbee Got it. So it went for 13,000 to 14,000 more miles, that's amazing ... I've got a 1998 Suburban K1500 that I believe needs this (It overheated, swapped the thermostat, ran GREAT for another 200 miles, sat for two days, on the next start, white smoke, a Cylinder 4 misfire code and running very rough) ... and the cost to fix it correctly is more than the value of the vehicle, so for a few more months out of it, this seems like a good solution... :) Thanks :) Off to the store...
@@mikeweseloh865 I think maybe you miss read my reply. I only had around 7,000-8,000. It might last 13,000-15,000 I don’t know. It may have been ready to let go right when I pulled it. If you only have smoke you might need to keep diagnosing out issue. Understand the difference between smoke and steam, do you have water in you oil? Do you have oil in your water? There are many other reasons you could have smoke. Bad piton rings, or valve seal’s would produce smoke. If you have steam then, yeah head gasket or intake gasket.
Glad to hear it. I was floored as well. I don’t feel it’s a long term repair, more of a temp fix to buy time to save money and or postpone to a more convenient time to make the proper repair. Who knows though. My truck is still running fine almost a year later.

I pulled the engine about a year after I did this, and it was still running fine. I haven’t torn it down to fix it because I bought a LQ4 to swap in. Every engine and application will have different results. My brother did this in his Dodge 318 and it lasted about 6 months.

Is it still holding up? How long did that last for you
It might have lasted six months. I didn’t use it for very long because I did an LS swap in the truck. It’s not a permanent fix by any means. It’s only good enough to get you out of a bad situation or get you by until you can afford or find the time to get the repair done right.

¹). Blue devil. ²). K-Seal. ³). Bars. or ⁴). CRC.?.
I can’t answer that. The blue devil is the only one I’ve ever used. Maybe someone else will be able to.

At 16:31 I'm glad the cap wasn't off or you'd have oil all over your driveway lol
it's just a temporary fix had a diesel that had this stuff in it lasted 1 year and then it blew again but if you can't afford to fix it with new head gaskets and find the cause it will work for the time being but i will warn you it might last you 1-2 years you could reapply it again to see if it would work a 2nd time when that time comes.
I'd be surprised if it would work in a diesel at all considering the high compression...
Thats good, should added another one
It works in diesel aswel ... even turbo vehicles
Was yours a water leak into the oil or an external leak?
If it was into the combustion chamber and lasted a year in a Diesel, the that's impressive.
@@randywl8925 I ran too much boost in a 7.3 idi turboed started as a slow leak internally and then needed to do a oil change didn't see any coolant in the oil but did a oil analysis and seen glycol in the list of what's in the oil lived with it for a good bit few years and then started seeing coolant in the oil after I bent a pushrod giving it hell one day.

why did you put the radiator cap back on when you put the blue devil in contrary to instructions to run it without radiator cap off for 50 minutes?
That wasn’t on the instructions I read. I filled them to the line.
I have a v8 how many bottles I need ? Can you add a part number for the bottle
I don’t recall the size bottle (I want to say it was 32oz). I can tell you I only needed one of the large bottles. The quantity needed depends on the cooling capacity of your vehicle. The truck I used it on was a 454 with large capacity radiator. The bottle says how much you need per gallon.
THE BAST BEDEO EXSPLAEIINS AII GOOD
Thank you so much for this vid. Im going to try tomorrow on my 2000 tahoe limited. Only difference is I have the Barr's copper gasket sealant. I REALLY hope it works as good as yours does. If not im gonna be S.O.L. Subbed and liked as well!🙌
I wish you the best of luck. Thanks for the sub and kind words!!!!
@@ChadLisonbee Always brother!!🤙
That was a bad idea lol the copper sealants heats up a lot easier and breaks down easier plus not good to have metal inside your engine I’ve seen it done a few times and people still overheating
Gonna go in person to ask lots of questions
Blue Devil worked for your car and hoping it'll work on mine. Thanks for your hard work and expertise!
So u drain the oil first before u put in blue devil and after
if it was me.. i would disconnect the hoses from the rad and connect them together ... take out the t-stat , then use flat clamps to pinch the hoses in and out of the heater lines... this way the bluedevil can circulate to the head gasket without bloacking anything else
That’s definitely a great way of thinking.
That’s sounds like exhaust gasses leaking back into the coolant system to me. Sounds like you’re on the right track. Good luck! Thanks for watching.
my van does the same thing...have you tried this stuff yet...
@@richluvsellie1 Not yet. I've order one of those head gasket testers from amazong (where the blue liquird turns yellow) & I've ordered another thermostat, once i get 100% confirmation my head gasket is blown, it i'll run blue devil through the old thermostat and then replace it with the new thermostat.
Really appreciate your help 💟💟💟💟
How long did it work for you?
Old school mentality, takes the same amount of time to do it right.
For watching.
Any updates on this? How long did it finally last?
I ran it about 5,000 miles in six months no issue. It never gave out on me I ended up pulling the engine for a planned LS swap.
@@ChadLisonbee fantastic!
From my reading and watching, you are not supposed to use any silicate product where it mixes with the oil. You will likely do that engine swap much sooner than anticipated.
Not real sure what you mean. It lasted about a year and around 6,000 miles. It definitely did what I needed it too.
@@ChadLisonbeeand that was with it not giving out, just doing engine swap!
So do I need to drain the oil and the put new oil before I put the blue devil
It doesn’t say too I’m the directions. But I did because I didn’t want to damage the main bearings.
Of course u drain the nasty oil u don’t want to run your vehicle with dirty contaminated oil
The best way to fix a oil leak is stop been cheap and replace it like i do is not much money thank you for your video...
Uh, he had a bad head gasket.
So you would spend $3000-$6000 instead of $30 on a car or truck that is only worth $3000-$4000 and has 160,000 miles on it? That makes absolutely no sense! If your going to spend that money, then you should just use that $3000-$6000 for a down payment for a newer vehicle.
Curious if it's still working good and how many miles on the engine between when you made the video and now... Thanks!
Thanks for the video, fingers crossed on my 97 Tahoe.
Pleasure bro. Thanks for watching.
@@ChadLisonbee It worked! I wish I knew about this 30 years ago.
Glad to hear it. I was floored as well. I don’t feel it’s a long term repair, more of a temp fix to buy time to save money and or postpone to a more convenient time to make the proper repair. Who knows though. My truck is still running fine almost a year later.
My vehicle is in 97 Ford aerostar but she's down on her luck right now and has a blown head gasket

Thermalweld is better. Bluedevil doesn’t hold up as well from my experience
Good to know!!
@@ChadLisonbee between my friend and I we have done 4 Cadillac Northstar engines. Flush with distilled water twice and add Thermalweld. 2500 RPM for 9 minutes. Cool down for 30 minutes and continue for another 9 min 2500rpm let the engine fully cool off and it will be fixed. Blue devil will fixed small head cracks but this stuff will seal just about anything that has a combustion leak. You also have to use low toxic coolant after performing the treatment or it will eat away at the compound. Hopefully this info helps for next time because I’m not confident that bluedevil is going to hold for very long. What’s the long term update?
@@majorhoonage9161 awesome bro, good to know. It lasted over a year without issue. I pulled the engine so I can swap in an LQ4. My brother used blue devil on his dodge 318 and only lasted about six months.

So What was the alcom 3 months later
It lasted over a year no issues. When I did this I was only trying to get by so I could accumulate the parts for my 6.0 4L80 swap. I have pulled the engine out now but only because I have almost all the needed parts for my LS swap.
Thanks for watching.
Did u put the thermostat back?? Ineed an answer asap
Leave it out while you’re doing the treatment. If you don’t it can clog up your radiator and water jackets. Once your finished and drain the blue devil put your thermostat back in.
Can you run it w/o the thermostat or you must put it back after ?
@@OscarHernandez-tl3qk you can run it without, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that. In order for your engine to run optimally you need the thermostat. If you have an automatic transmission your radiator also acts to keep your transmission at optimal temp which also relies on your thermostat.
@@ChadLisonbee I just finished doing it I flushed all the coolant out of it and followed the instructions now my engine is being running for 50 mins and it’s not overheating anymore the only issue is I have to go get a new thermostat and put it back on
@@OscarHernandez-tl3qk awesome!! Just remember, not to consider it a permanent fix. Use it to get you buy while you save the money and find time to do a proper head gasket repair. Thanks for watching.
I did that to my Honda CR-V. It works.
3 year update?
No real update. It lasted about a year maybe 10,000 miles until I pulled the engine. My brother used it in his old dodge and it worked great for about 5,000 miles (if I remember correctly) then it let go. It’s not a permanent fix by any means. But it’s good to get you by for a short period of time while you save to have a mechanic fix the problem or to be able to have time to make the fix yourself at a convenient time.
How has this been holding up 1 year later?
It held up fine. I pulled the engine to swap in an LS. My brother used the same stuff after he saw the success I had, and it last about 6 months till it gave way. So results definitely vary. It’s not at all a permanent fix. I feel it’s only good to get you out of a bind till you can find time or save up the money to do a proper repair.
Does it work on all makes and model cars or trucks
The manufacturer claims it does. I can’t speak for them. But if you follow the directions to the line, I’m certain you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The way I see it is if it doesn’t work contact the company and get your money back. You lost nothing. Good luck.
Honda cr-v howmuch amount needed??
I have no idea. You might want to ask the manufacture those types of questions.
How long did it last after a year?
I pulled the engine about a year after I did this, and it was still running fine. I haven’t torn it down to fix it because I bought a LQ4 to swap in. Every engine and application will have different results. My brother did this in his Dodge 318 and it lasted about 6 months.
@Andres Maurer personally I wouldn’t risk it. I don’t think this is a proper or permanent fix by any means. I feel the only good use for this, is to get you by to either get you off the side of the road, or buy time to do a proper repair.
Can I still use this if my heater doesn’t blow?
I have no idea the potential impact that could have. I’m not a professional with this stuff. All I know is what the directions say.
Can someone PLEAS E tell me how do i remove the blue devil head gasket sealer from the engine bay and parts ? i tried everything
I couldn’t answer that with certainty, because I didn’t have that issues. lol. But I would use mineral spirits. Best stuff for cleaning engine bay parts.
@@ChadLisonbee thanks as i had a bad head gasket, steam of course would come out of the over flow .. clogged the supra radiator.. inside outside, clogged the outer fins of the oil coolers, trans cooler, and intercooler. what a mess . . didnt even work :(

Why don’t try to change the head gasket your self? You have a garage and that take may 2 or 3 days head gaskets cost around 155 dls a set just desassembly intake manifold and accesories (alternator, power steering pump, ac compressor etc ) valve cover take off exhaust manifold, chain tensioner( make sure a correct position on that simple put a mark with a permanent color on chains and gear ⚙️) take out the bolts on head cylinders and remove the old gasket clean the head very well to make sure your heads is not bowed put that in a 1/2 inch glass table with a 100 paper sand and sand it assembly back together and ready!
I’m 100% able to change the head gaskets. I’ve just always been curious if this stuff actually works. I never intended to keep the engine, and now I know of I was ever stuck on a trail or in the middle or nowhere, I can just throw some of this stuff in and make it home. Like I said in the video, I would never recommend or use this as a permanent fix. However I do feel it’s a viable option to get you by. Thanks for watching!
