Well, now we know why Swaggy didn't fulfill his potential.

I honestly don’t Blame arenas. Swaggy p. Was still an adult already not a kid. He could of easily put more work in to his game and make some time to fool around with agent zero on his free time. His mind must of just been weak and he was easily influenced by arenas bad decisions.
Yeah Gil mentioned this on his podcast when Nick Young was the guest. Gil felt he “failed” Nick in that respect, not teaching/showing him how hard he’s worked to get where he’s at, and instead only Nick Young saw Gil messing around. But no doubt that to be that good in the NBA, hard work was put in but the rooks never saw it with Gil :(
supersport16 agreed Nick was 21 his rookie year and 23 when arenas was traded. Everyone doesn’t have that same I remember arenas stories of his early years he said nobody had his work ethic..everyone doesn’t have that discipline.

A lot of former successful players rarely are as honest about where they failed as Gilbert. All you hear is “I never would’ve” or “I always” never “I failed”.

My man agent 0 always spoke it from the heart and back it up on the court. This is a big reason you keep vets on the team. They might not produce big stats but the wisdom from experience in the locker room hold the team together. Kobe had some great vets on the Lakers. Eddie Jones, Nick, and Raider to mold and challenge him.

Larry Hughes was beastmode on the low.
Larry's biggest problem was that he couldn't shoot, and that is a huge flaw for a starting shooting guard. He was also injury ridden for most of his prime too.

Hughes almost looked younger too but he was a good play maker with smooth handles but Gilbert was more explosive and the maturity of Hughes wanted gil to balance the floor with him gettin his role players involved on offense
Nick Young was one dimensional,2, 3 dribbles into his pull up from anywhere and was worse he wouldn't play D nor pass. GILBERT COULD PASS the ball but he was really good off the dribble to the basket and later learned how to use his Bigs for picks and roll passes if he didnt have his shot .

I get what Gil is saying.
Gil seems like an extrovert so when he saw young teammates he tried to have fun with them. Young players mistook it that Gil is not a hardworker but a relaxed person whose No1 priority was to have fun.
Nope his No1 priority was basketball. Having fun was his No2 priority shared with his need to make money. Both No1 priority and playing in college made him a responsible hardworker.
Almost no rookie ever writes notes of the systems and plays and tries to modify them to his benefit. He is smart, methodical and when he played he had attention to detail like Kobe had.
Gil is practical and street smart and those are mostly given by birth not developed.
With his smart practical mind he realized from his early years the simple concepts (yes they r very simple concepts no matter how complex some people present them to be) for playing good basketball and being a good player. Then the methodical aspect of his character kicked in as he found simple creative ways to maximize the impact of his skills in the game.
The simper u play a game, the more effective u become in that.
Gil is the guy in a group of 5 players with similar skills that will play the game the smart way and will make himself look better than the rest of the group.
Gil's philosophy about basketball tactics, team management etc. The smartest way needs to be the simplest and right way at the same time.PERIOD

Except, he was great and was the proof of concept for the likes of Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and Kyrie Irving. The Wizards are a bad organization, Ernie was a terrible GM, and giving Gilbert Arenas that contract really hurt the franchise but it was still the right move. KD may not resemble himself when he gets back but giving him the max is still a great move. Now Hibachi wasn't KD but he was All NBA 3 years in a row before his knees blew out...all without ever entering his "prime".
