I always interpreted Batman Arkham Knight's ending as Bruce killing off his human identity to be able to continue his crusade as Batman, I never thought that he killed himself simply because it goes against his entire character. Am I an idiot for thinking that?
I got the same impression. However, that doesn't work either. Multiple times in the comics and shows, Batman has decided to kill off Bruce persona. To become the knight full time. However, that doesn't work. He always realizes that he needs to be human. This is why he's the opposite of clark. Clark is a God who wants to be human. Clark would be happiest living as a farmer or a reporter. Bruce is a man who wishes he could be this God of Justice. However neither can shake off what they are. And they have to accept that emotionally. The Arkham Knight ending ignores this critical part of Batman lore by having him do something that we know is a terrible idea. That might be fine if they had decided to do a follow-up. Like if Gotham Knights was an actual sequel. However it isn't a satisfying conclusion
Halo 2's "Finishing the fight" scene IS the epilogue. The main story in the game is stopping Delta Halo from firing (the second Halo is right there in the title, after all), and that goal was achieved in the final mission, complete with a boss battle and everything. The epilogue is not a cliffhanger, it's just setting up the third game. Halo 2 concluded every story that it needed to conclude, making it the perfect second act for the Halo trilogy.
I'm going to defend Arkham Knight's ending. The Knightfall protocol was to fake Bruce Wayne's death. If he were revealed as Batman, then all his work would crumble. Every thug he ever beat to a pulp would now be draining Wayne's money. His legacy would be one of ashes, not of hope. By "killing" himself, he manages to keep a part of his legacy fighting crime alive, and possibly can turn to help new fighters by training them and offering his experience.
Top 5 or 10 strangest turns in video gams (gameplay, story, ect.); like you'd never see this coming in a million years. Other ideas for count downs: -iconic/best rivals in video games -best duo/team mates -most bizarre video game concepts that became brilliant!
The final act of Halo 5 left a much more bitter taste in my mouth than Halo 2's ending. On the one hand, you have all this buildup to an epic finale, and the game cuts you off with a cliffhanger telling you to buy the sequel (H2). On the other, you have a beloved character turn evil because the writers said so, the main character get captured and needing to be rescued by a brand-new guy not nearly as awesome as he, and the setup for a plot device that's been told before dozens of times and doesn't look to be bringing anything new to the table (H5). Yeah, no.
Actually, you don't have to collect all of the trophies in Arkham Knight to get the true ending. All you need to do is complete the main Riddler quest and rescue Catwoman. I didn't know that when I first played either, but Catwoman hints at it when Riddler is screaming "solve my riddles, then you can fight me!" and she responds with "or we could just leave you there and walk away."
You know, I was expecting Mass Effect 3 to be the final entry here. That's partially because I forgot just how dumb Sonic 06's ending was. They've got such a low bar for Sonic Forces...
I mean, the latest was Sonic Boom which is supposed to be worse than Sonic 06. They spent the decade giving fans hope only to let them fall even further.
Shawn Heatherly Sonic Team didn't make that game themselves though. I don't see it as a Sonic game personally, but rather a cheap tie-in game for a TV show/cartoon, which are generally known for being poor in quality. At the end of the day, it's a spinoff, but the main series games seem to be consistently good these days
Mass Effect 3's ending was hands down the worst video game ending I've ever seen. The Extended Cut DLC made it about 30% better. Doesn't mean it's good. All my decisions still meant shit. The only thing it changed was whether I took a breath in a pile of rubble.
Rabbid I have seen most of your videos and respect your bluntness, willing to crack jokes, variety of entries in your videos; keeping making great videos
Sure is, I personally didn't like the ending. The fire game had a great ending but the next chapter just wasn't really a good game overall in my opnion.
Thank you for mentioning Halo 2. I haven't played a Halo game since that one, that's how badly that ending sat with me. I watched so many trailers and videos coming up to release, all of them claiming it was going to be about this grand war on earth. Thank god here we are! Let's Do thi... "Finishing this fight." Worst of all I live in Australia so online multiplayer a the time wasn't even a fucking option.
What happened with Halo 2 is that the original engine Microsoft had in mind couldn't be used by the XBOX. So they had to switch to a different engine, essentially rebuilding the game and one of the sacrifices was that the story had to be shortened thus leading to the rushed ending you mentioned. Thankfully, Halo 3 appeared to have a much smoother production.
It is a bit comforting to know that you can basically ignore '06's entire crappy story on the time line, as all that actually happened was Sonic saw a festival, watched it from a distance, then left.
I think you kind of misunderstood the ending to Arkham knight. It's implying that he fakes his death in order to disappear from the public eye, entrusting the mantle of Batman to someone else. In the comics, the knightfall protocol was something to be implemented if batman was ever put out of commission in order to prepare a successor. The ending isn't batman dying, but making the decision to hang up his cowl and disappear into obscurity in order to let someone else take up the mantle. Of course this is also open to interpretation, as it could also be that he fakes Bruce Wayne's death in order to fully devote himself to being Batman, which would wrap up a lot of the game's themes about Batman's struggles between his two identities fairly well.
No one will see this, but am I the only one who hates it when people say "No one will see this". Like if you agree, and subscribe to get a hot grill and join my free giftcard giveaway as well as finding the Boss Baby in the comment section. (NOT CLICKBAIT)
Nope. I hate that as well. I am guilty of this, unfortunately, but most of the time it's full of an air of elitism. I tried to avoid that when I made comments like that.
love that you mention how a bad video game ending makes books look appealing and mention mass effect 3's ending. when I finished reading the sword of truth series(the original run I guess I have to clarify as I've heard the author has since continued the book series and to some extent retconned the last book/the ending to it) I finished the book put it down and literally exclaimed 'it's mass effect all over again!'
As far as the Knightfall Protocol ending goes, the whole thing about "privacy being too important" has been explained by a few people I've seen as: no villain is going to be scared of "billionaire Bruce Wayne running around in a bat-suit." When he was a mysterious force coming down to bust their heads in, it gave weight to his presence as a force for justice in Gotham. Having his identity out there doesn't work quite the same way as it did for Iron Man because Iron Man never used fear and intimidation and mystery as a big part of his crime fighting persona.
Rage has probably the shittiest ending ever, not only from a story standpoint but also from a gameplay standpoint. You go in a boring room, normal enemies (the same standard fodder you already killed thousands of) pour into the room. No special enemies, no boss. And you just need to push a few buttons. The you get a 10 second cutscene of some pods rising from the ground aaaaaand that's it. Credits.
"Tony Stark he gets by pretty well" sure if you ignore his alcoholism in the comics and him getting depression in the movies and having his house blown up.
"At least there are no cliffhangers in multiplayer" What about when you're tied with the enemy team, the time is ticking out, the score keeps changing every 2 secconds and then you get kicked due to bad connection or your wifi goes down or something like that? Didn't think of that huh?
First game that pissed me off with its ending was Prince Of Persia (2008). The game has a ton of unanswered questions including the true identity of the main character. The villain has been resurrected and is about to destroy the kingdom with no hope of stopping him. The game stop right there, in the middle of the story. There never came a sequel
I won't say it's the most well-executed thing, but Batman faking his own death at the end of Arkham Knight has a bit more reason behind it than was mentioned. Tony Stark was mentioned, but he can get by with everyone knowing he's Iron Man because he wants to be a colorful protector flying through the sky. One of Batman's main tools is his intimidation of thugs, and it's gonna be harder to strike the necessary fear into thugs when they know you're just pretty playboy Bruce Wayne.
borderlands 1 for it's underwhelming final confrontation with a damage sponge that gives you nothing special for killing it and also comes out of nowhere stealing a potential final confrontation with a villain that was hyped up.
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Faced with the threat of demons that can't even open a door powered by the protagonist, the heroes consisting of a god-like being, his girlfriend, the legendary heroes of the last game and a small army of monsters decide that the best course of action is causing the entropic death of the universe instead of just fighting the demons like you could in the previous game. I honestly think the "bad" ending is the least depressing of the three. I could overlook the constant flashbacks to "Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality." and the repetitive sidequests given by the Katz, because juggling enemies in the air with Emil is pretty fun. But that ending is what turned me off to playing that game again when I was bored.
Great video and all, but I saw some Psi Ops clips in there, And I'm just hyped someone else remembers that game. I have some serious nostalgia for it and wish it would somehow get a sequel.
I've never played it, but it sounds like Sonic '06 and Life is Strange have one thing in common: The "best" ending (I say this very loosely) of LiS does the same thing as Sonic's.... it basically erases all of the events of the game. Just love dumping several hours into a game, and at the end of it... guess what!? Everything you did in the game was erased! YAAAAY! Why did I even play it then!?
I don't know how you would title it, and I've already suggested this before; but I still want to see it: Top five best least liked games in their franchise. Games like Metroid Fusion, Zelda 2; Star Fox Adventures etc.. Games that although people often consider them to be some of the worst in their franchise, they're still good games on their own and deserve recognition.
First, I recognize that DTL The Next Chapter in the transitions and would happily defend it because it ties into the events of the game but I don't have the space here. Second, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Pokemon Gen 7. Top 10 Alola Pokemon please?
No Sniper: Ghost Warrior? Ya know, the game where you snipe a random enemy, and ends the game with literally zero buildup or epilogue? Seriously you shoot the guy and BOOM. Roll credits.
I was worried when you started with a shot of KOTOR 2... My favorite game, and while its ending isn't the most rewarding and is quite unconventional, it has a very deep meaning, entwinned in the complexity of the game's characters
I care about zero entries on this list because my number one will forever be Eternal Sonata. ES had an ending that infuriated me so much the moment the credits finished I put the game back in its case and drove down to Gamestop to GET IT OUT OF MY SIGHT. You spend like 30 hours with Frederic Chopin in his magical coma fairy land for the sudden heel turn of Chopin, one of your party members mind you, going "oh shit this is a dream. NOW YOU DIE." He becomes the final boss and the remaining party members defeat him, KILLING HIM IN REAL LIFE. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?
There was a kid in some of my classes in high school who I'm pretty sure thought that Sonic '06 was the greatest epic ever told. The way he went on and on about it was a nightmare. And I'm someone who's actually beaten the game.
Drakengard's E Ending, if only because of the sheer amount of effort you put forth to getting it. Forgive me, but I'm never getting those 20 hours of tedious weapon unlocking and grinding back. It led to Nier and Nier Automata, though, so I'm willing to forgive SOME of it, but damn... can't believe I put that much effort into a game just to get that kind of an ending.
What did we come out with from Sonic 06's ending? No one learned anything, no character development not even any experiences gained because it was erased.
So, your number 1 pick for the worst videogame ending is one where all of the events that happened during the game are erased, thereby making all of your efforts to finish the game basically meaningless? Sounds about right.
Wait. That transition music... is that from the Black Ops Multiplayer menu? Now I'm getting nostalgic flashbacks of the days when all that mattered was getting that next killstreak and getting through one more round of zombies. Luigi-senpai y u do dis? ;-;
My #1 is Life is Strange. They basically make a your decisions you made throughout the game and make them pointless, you either kill everyone in the town, meaning anything you did for them is pointless, or turn back time and let Chloe die, meaning you don't do anything you did throughout the game anyways.
Number 4: "I don't know many trilogies that end well" -- wait, he can't be -- oh, it's the Batman: Arkham series (which -- is actually a quadrilogy, but that ending IS pretty bad so). Yeah, there was no way you could have Mass Effect 3 at any place other than -- #2?? Wait, what? Okay, so the DLC redeems it somewhat, but what could-- Ah. Can't resist another opportunity to rag on Sonic06, huh. XD It's okay, understandable impulse.
Holy shit is that transition drawn to life 2? That game's ending pissed me off so much as a kid! I was just like "What on earth is going on!" I had to look up later that the whole 2 games took place in the mind of a comatose patient. Who thought that was at all a good idea?!
If we're counting endings based on moral disagreement as much as bad writing, then I feel as though SMT IV: Apocalypse's Neutral Endings deserve a mention. Normally I'm perfectly content with Neutral endings being the most hopeful, especially given that Neutral as an *alignment* is built on hope. I personally disagree with the alignment and I find it a bit naive to follow since it inevitably delays either Law or Chaos' victory, but I still 100% respect people who side with Neutral. What REALLY peeves me about the Peace and Anarchy endings is that they basically say to Lawful or Chaotic SMT fans: "oh, that cause you fought for because you believed in it? Well fuck off, Neutral's the only correct path, heil humanity." This reeks of TOTAL hypocrisy in my eyes, since the basis of SMT as a series is to let players make the choice they believe is right, and having Law and Chaos be literal puppets of YHVH and Neutral being the only path that works is EXTREMELY insulting to me from a franchise that I thank immensely for shaping my ideals. Even worse, if the Diamond Realm DLC's anything to go by, this Axiom retcon bullshit applies to the ENTIRE SMT UNIVERSE. Now I understand Apocalypse's universe is radically different from the mainline SMT games, but it still feels pretty damn insulting as a Law fan for being told to fuck off by having their Ending as a bad one, and I'm pretty certain other Chaos fans are too. At LEAST give me some alignment-exclusive content and I'll be fine, but no, they fucked that up too. Hopefully Deep Strange Journey and SMT V doesn't further piss on the legacy the original SMT I built.
A little surprised that you didn't use this opportunity to complain about MGSV's ending lol. Still, it was a fantastic list! It's hard to find a youtube personality who can make original "Sonic and Elise" jokes. Got a ton of laughs here!
A long time ago, Joshscorcher did top ten Leage of Legends champions that need their own games. Maybe you could do a top 5/10 Overwatch heroes who could have their own spinoff games.
I say Black Ops 3's Campaign Ending left me with a sour taste and I had one question that I had: "What did any of this have to do with the last two games?"
OH MY GOD
I just realised something.

Yeah, no.
darthspidermario Yeah, Halo 5 had a much worse ending than Halo 2. Least Halo 2 had a good story that built up the sequel to be epic.
have my babies rabbid
SteelRotom Assuming you're a guy one of you would have to get a sex change.
or he/she already has babies and wants Rabbid to adopt them?
SteelRotom Sorry, he has goats
that's not the first problem. Even if he had a sex change, he'd still lack the female organs required to reproduce.

I think that Sonic 06's ending is perfect, because now that trash heap canonically never happened.
Worst game endings? I can already guess that mass effect 3 will be on here.
it will always be present in any list, no doubt about it
It's #2.
What tipped you off, the fact that it's the thumbnail?

Gogin Milencess Yep
Hang on, that´s a bad ending? I remember it as a pretty good one ( Not happy thought ).
It's a good ending but in newer copies of that game they replaced the ending with something more child friendly and it completely ruins the impact.
Aw yeah, thats right, I remember that now.

As far as the Knightfall Protocol ending goes, the whole thing about "privacy being too important" has been explained by a few people I've seen as: no villain is going to be scared of "billionaire Bruce Wayne running around in a bat-suit." Worst Video Game Endings?
I hope Knuckles' Chaotix's good ending is in here.
First, I recognize that DTL The Next Chapter in the transitions and would happily defend it because it ties into the events of the game but I don't have the space here.
Second, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Pokemon Gen 7. Top 10 Alola Pokemon please?
Whenever I think of Bad Endings I think of Karnov.
No Sniper: Ghost Warrior? Ya know, the game where you snipe a random enemy, and ends the game with literally zero buildup or epilogue? Seriously you shoot the guy and BOOM. Roll credits.
Looks like Rabbitluigi doesn't know how the DC universe works.
Coincidental release when my feed is getting infected with people dissatisfied with Samurai Jack's ending.
Top 5 Video Game Sequel Difficulty Spikes
Excuse me, did you just say Halo 2 had a shaky story? Oh yeah, we're done.
I liked this video a lot, please make more like this one.
Wait. That transition music... is that from the Black Ops Multiplayer menu? Now I'm getting nostalgic flashbacks of the days when all that mattered was getting that next killstreak and getting through one more round of zombies.
Luigi-senpai y u do dis? ;-;
ME3's extended ending is just a bandaid on a botched heart surgery for a patient with a neurological disorder.

Why is Caddicarus in a Batman game?.
My #1 is Life is Strange.
They basically make a your decisions you made throughout the game and make them pointless, you either kill everyone in the town, meaning anything you did for them is pointless, or turn back time and let Chloe die, meaning you don't do anything you did throughout the game anyways.
Batman's spirit? What on earth would make you think that? Pretty sure that's Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond) using Scarecrow's fear toxin.
Wait, what? Okay, so the DLC redeems it somewhat, but what could--
Ah.
Top 5 games made by a little amount of people.
wow. #1 Didn't even surprise me. That scares me a bit. Still a great video
Yo was that Drawn to Life 2 in the transition?

Like the Black Ops multiplayer music. Makes me want to fire up the 360 and play some good old blops
A little surprised that you didn't use this opportunity to complain about MGSV's ending lol. Still, it was a fantastic list! It's hard to find a youtube personality who can make original "Sonic and Elise" jokes. Got a ton of laughs here!
Okay but just a shout out to the little pink book. That thing is a god when you need to get through the ABRSM theory grades

Tbh the Halo 2 ending didn't bother me. I knew 3 was coming, and I was satisified, I was ready. Mass Effect 3? Yeah, that hurt.
Top 5 boss intro cut-scenes. orphan of kos (bloodborne) and the arbiter of time lv 99 (ff13-2) come to mind right now, but there are loads more.
I say Black Ops 3's Campaign Ending left me with a sour taste and I had one question that I had: "What did any of this have to do with the last two games?"
