    Here's an idea for a countdown, Most Heartwarming 4th Wall Breaking scenes. 4th wall breaking is usually made for comedy or psychological horror, but it's rare a game goes out of its way to actually make the player feels happy.
    The big one for me is Ar Nosurge which is full of those moments, but the biggest one is Cass reconnecting Delta to you for you to control as he, despite knowing-doing that means Delta will lose his memory again and will be at the mercy of your hands. Before she and Delta disconnected you from him at the end of Phase 2, but near the end of Phase 3 realize they need your special ability called Interdimend, essentially controlling a character from another world which enhances their abilities, and trust you enough to help save the world. She even acknowledges all the good you did when you did control Delta, the game allows you to do good deeds, and puts her complete faith with the option to promise her you will do your best, with her thanking you for it. . That's the one scene that made me sure I needed to see this through the end because of an in-game promise between you and the couple to help them.

      Kingdom Hearts 3 has a great example of this. (SPOILERS) When Sora is briefly defeated by Xehanort during the final boss and you get a Game Over, suddenly you can hear Donald & Goofy calling Sora's name but the sound actually comes from the speakers in the PS4 controller. After that, when Sora's heart starts beating again the vibration of the controller is used to mimic the heart beats. It's a good example of a 4th wall break used for a really wholesome and empowering moment just before Sora, Donald and Goofy deal the final blow to the final boss of the game.

    “Glad the future Fire Emblem games just stuck to one ending.”
    Erm...Awakening has two endings, Fates has three and Three Houses has four, so idk what FE games you’re playing. Granted, they don’t require anywhere near as much BS to reach as Binding Blade’s ending, but still.

    • @Gr8WchM

      And top of that, if you count DLC, Three Houses technically has 5 endings?

    • @chillmadude
      @chillmadude 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yeah, but it's fairly easy to get yourself all of these endings, which was kinda his main point they reduced the amount of endings and made sure it wasn't so ridiculously hard to get them that you wouldnt really need a walkthrough for them

    • @Practitioner_of_Diogenes
      @Practitioner_of_Diogenes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There’s only one canonical ending to Awakening (sacrifice) and Fates (Revelations). Three Houses actually has four endings, but one is seen more of a “what if” than anything.

    • @amirgarcia547
      @amirgarcia547 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      chillmadude I understand the point he was trying to make, since none of the endings in the current FE games require anywhere near as much hoops to jump through as with Binding Blade, but his wording was a bit awkward since it made it seem as if they only have a single ending. Which they clearly don’t.

    • @Vexal50
      @Vexal50 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awakening hardly counts, as you don't really see anything different, and its done via a dialogue choice at the end of the game, essentially rendering it as flavor, and Fates is more 3/4ths of the game being different rather than alternate endings

    Here's a unique idea I feel everyone seems to overlook: Top 5 most tragic supplementary materials to a video game.
    Explanation: You finish a game, research it on its corresponding WIki for a video/playthrough, and bam! You discover a supplementary material meant to either continue the story after the beautiful end of the game-in-question that ends up breaking up a couple that you invested 160 hours into (Final Fantasy X-Will), a prelude setting up and expanding on the Hero's and villain's antagonism towards each other in-game because of a loved one's death (Tokyopop's Castlevania: Curse of Darkness manga), or a story featuring a cut cutscene from a popular rpg that helps clarify how a certain character endures after certain events (Xenoblade: The Secret File - Monado Archives). There's also some of Overwatch's Character story trailers, Darksiders: The Abomination Vault which greatly expands on Death and his deadly actions, etc.

    I’m currently playing through Fire Emblem The Binding Blade and yeah, the requirements for the true ending could have been better. Unlocking the first few Gaiden chapters wasn’t too bad, but there are some that are ridiculously hard to get. One involves keeping a certain enemy unit alive, but the problem is whenever he attacked one of my units, they’d counter and any critical hit would annihilate him. And then another one requires you to keep units that very well could have died at that point in the game. (I lost Sue before the Gaiden chapter she was required for and it took place over 10 chapters after you recruited her.)

      I guessed someone might comment about this, but I respectfully disagree. It seemed like a pain in the ass while I was going through it, but with hindsight I genuinely think it was worth it - part of the issue is you have no idea what you're actually working towards until it happens. It does get a little repetitive, but being able to shortcut half the quests because you already know how they end (especially the Ninja one) takes most of that away.

    The first game that comes to mind is Rayman 1. In order to get the ending you need to find all hidden cages, in a game where simply getting through a stage is already hard. This feels like something that might work as a 100% completion bonus task, but not a necessary mission to reach the ending.

  • @Vexal50
    @Vexal50 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    when it comes to 100% Endings, I feel it depends on *how* difficult it is to 100% or not. Like, Kirby 64's a good example where it isn't necessarily a bad thing, as getting all the crystal shards isn't that much of a pain

  • @prinzkomi5490
    @prinzkomi5490 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm not going to repeat the whole "why Three Houses footage tho" because it's been here a lot already, with good rights. Yeah, the endings are easy to get but it also doesn't make sense showing 3H when talking about future FE having more straightforward conclusions. Also, it's not even completely true if you count specific character interactions/endings to a "complete" ending, because in this case, let me tell you about one thing in terms of cryptic things you need to do to unlock the "best" ending: Radiant Dawn.
    Requirements: a memory card with a completed Path of Radiance savefile (so if you're playing on WiiU or a newer Wii model, you're instantly locked out) where specific characters have specific supports (Ike and Soren come to mind), playing on NG+ and keeping characters alive that die story deaths on a first playthrough, let characters have conversations on the battlefield that are incredibly dangerous to get because they often involve getting your fragile units deep into enemy lines (not to mention that you don't even know you need them, or that the characters can even talk to each other), bringing certain characters to the endgame, locking up precious space for your elite fighters and having them have conversations with bosses whose attacks they're not necessarily likely to survive. And of course, they have to live through the last battle. Congratulations, you got yourself the full character conclusions, and depending on your opinion of which ones are the focus of those it might not even be worth loosing your sanity over it.
    So much for games after FE 6 not having insane requirements lol

  • @WayWardWonderer

    "Detroit:: Become Human". Intentionally letting everyone die, letting them fail in their purposes and going out of your way to make the worst decisions possible results in a horribly unsatisfying ending. Go figure! I love that the game doesn't have a singular canon right/wrong ending. Having to bust your ass to get a "true ending" that isn't worth the effort always pissed me off.

      VocalCalibration I’d say it’s worth it just to give Idunn a happy ending...but at the same time, the final map is super easy and very underwhelming, so it doesn’t exactly end the game on a high note.

    • @vocalcalibration8033
      @vocalcalibration8033 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amirgarcia547 Yeah I like the saving Idunn aspect of it, and in terms of lore Idunn going down as fast as she does to the Binding Blade makes some sense, but it makes for a very anti-climactic final battle, not to mention the map before it basically just being one long exposition dum, but with dragons doesn't help.

    Dishonorable Mention: Super Mario Odyssey's Ending
    Sure it is pretty funny to see Peach finally stand up to herself by rejecting both Mario & Bowser's purposal, but at the same, the ending itself just felt pretty anti-climactic to me. Mario just went on this huge, grand, globe-trotting adventure, & to see the game end like that, just felt like nothing happened.
    Honestly I find Cappy's speech at the end of the Darker Side level to be a much better ending to the game than the actual game's ending, mainly due to how touching Cappy's speech was, with him reflecting back on the grand adventure he just went through with Mario & honestly made me love Cappy as an actual character because of it. To me that's how Odyssey should've ended its main story.

    I think for me the worst offender for this is an edutainment computer game I played as a kid. I don't remember the name but the premise was that some evil wizard crated a weather machine that made it permanently winter on this mountain what the hero lived on so you would climb the mountain using math and when you got to the top the wizard just threw you out of the castle window and you had to climb it again. But not just one more time, like 6 times or something, I don't actually know how many times because I never finished it. I remember just getting board with the same thing happening each time and just kind of stopped halfway though the third climb up.

    Zero Escape games have a similar branching structure as Shadow the Hedgehog. The first game does have you basically going through the whole game again, but the Second and Third game let's you skip to any point in the timelines. This would have helped Shadow a lot, besides the fact it has lacked luster level design and slippery controls.

    TWO OF THEM ARE LITERAL CHILDREN. YOU *HAVE* TO KILL CHILDREN IF YOU WANT TO 100% THIS GAME.

    I’ll admit, I can’t tell what’s worse with the only two games I’ve played on this list:
    Having to play the same levels multiple times and get a bunch of different endings that are all invalidated by the true ending, OR having basically no direction to get the true ending without a guide and getting badass weapons that you can’t even use until the end of the game due to requiring them for said ending.

    2. Chrono Cross had so many random endings, mainly centered around when and how you beat the final boss, that I have vivid memories of endings I can't find online. Like... the one where the girl cosplays as Kid and its just a weird grainy footage(might have been in sepia) of her wandering around the streets(of I assumed Japan) in real life as the credits scroll.

    The true ending to the Mary Skelter franchise is also worth a mention. You can get a "true ending" in the first game by flushing out the traitor yes, but if you bought the game as a bundle with Mary Skelter 2, then you have to complete that and get the "true ending" for the sequel as well by uncovering the mysterious nightmare's true identity, watch all your characters die off in tragic ways, and then back-pedal to the first game's post-game content in the Underground Cavern in order to get the REAL true ending that ties everything together and gives everyone a happy ending. It's all worth it in the end in my opinion, but for other players this must feel like and extra 50 hour chore.

    You make it sound Like Three Houses only have 1 ending. Yes the split happens fairly early as opposed to having to having to do specific things throughout the entire game, but you make it sound like each route is the exact same plotline just from different perspectives. There are major plot differences in the ending stretch of the game that makes them more than just different perspectives though. Fire Emblem Awakening also has two endings, it's completely dependent on your final choice though.

I loved playing Shadow the Hedgehog on the PS2 and not only did I get the true ending, I got all the A Ranks and completed the stage rush you unlock for doing so. And if they ever decide to port it to another console in the future, I'd be happy to do it again. Shadow the Hedgehog is a guilty pleasure for me, and I have unlocked the final level to get the true ending. Except I died like three times in the first room and gave up, lol. Could give it another go at some point but naaaaaah.
    That game could also be a candidate for a possible "poorly thought out multiplayer/co-op" countdown, and not just for the actual multiplayer mode, but for the "co-op" in the main game. Oh yes, you can have a second player control the tag along (sans Doom's Eye and Eggman's droid thingy) in the levels and it is hilarious. Even Maria. The camera doesn't account for the other player moving around so the control is even worse, but they can never really die and don't lose rings when hit, so you can have 'em just run around killing things for you at no risk to yourself.

      I'm probably wrong on this, but I think that's the reason the DLC even exists: because the game didn't sell nearly enough to justify a sequel.
      I think they wanted to do more with Chakravartin (at least judging by what I saw in the artbook with him fighting the Seven Deity Army), but had to resort to this so the story isn't forever left on a cliffhanger.
      Personally, I felt it was at least a much, MUCH better ending compared to Dead Space 3's DLC which not only screwed over the original ending, but also left the series on an eternal cliffhanger.

    tbf with Binding Blade, the requirements aren't that bad. Turn counts for Gaidens are really lenient and I feel that most players would be cautious with legendary weapons as to not break them (and you probably won't even come close if you're not spamming them where they're not needed, even lategame when they show their use you still have a lot by then). Only thing that is truly bad about them is keeping characters alive, but again I feel like most players do that anyway, aside from maybe Douglas.
    Though yeah the True Ending isn't all that much cause Binding Blade's characters in story are really barebones, but at least the scene with Fa and Idunn is cute

    You know I wish we could get something official about the Asura's Wrath True Ending DLC being made because of a canceled sequel. It's often brought up as the reason but I've never been able to figure out where the rumor comes from.
    The DLC content is amazing and worth the price, but this one subject always hangs over it as an understood negative if it really was a case of Capcom intentionally holding story content back to sell as DLC.
