Thanks for the great video. 30 minutes of labor and the problem was fixed! I found it easier to remove the 8mm bolt and the sensor before disconnecting it from the plug (and likewise connecting the replacement before bolting it in). It strikes me that it's easier separating the sensor from the plug when it's in a less restrictive space and when one can get a grip on the two parts to be separated. Also, the red tab on the left-rear wheel was hidden from view until I removed the bolt and the sensor connected to the wiring.
Mine didn’t reset with the start of the engine, I drove it for about a mile then the lights disappeared. Thanks for the help and saving me a ton of cash!
It has to relearn. I have changed mine several times. 2011 116,000 MI. The last time I changed the front ones. It was cheaper to get the bearing assembly w/sensor than just by a sensor. I also found out when my back up sensor light came on,.That I could clean them with wd40. Went right back to working. I thought this might work on my speed sensors. So I cleaned them up.and right back to working. It don't mean it will be that way every time I guess, But so far so good. The brakes on the front ha e locked up.twice because of them. I.had to replace everything in less than 10,000 MI. It would not go.into economy 4 cylinder. You don't really notice it at first. Then you smell it. I pulled over and it locked.up.tight. The wheels were smoking hot. Another problem is there is no cabin filter in it. You can get.a kit for it.simple to install. The outside pollutants clogged.up.my evaporator tomorrow part of the dash.will have to come out to change it. I'm gonna rebuild the blower box while I have it out. The cabin filters are very important. Find out it your vehicle has one and change it. Also you.can use the re-cycle button on the a/c. That will stop most pollutants. Not make the same mistake I did, Its very costly. and time consuming. GOD BLESS
Man thanks a lot, today I started my truck and I saw all those lights on, I really freaked out, well it turned out my dog had bitten cut one of the cable. Had a 2012 Ram 1500 go through the shop this past week with the same issue. I ordered the 2 sensors for the rear wheels. Took the old ones out to find they were completely covered in dried mud/dust. I used shop air to blow out the area where the sensor sits, and a ton of dust and dirt came out. I installed the new sensors and lifted the vehicle a couple feet off the ground and put it in drive. The lights disappeared around 10 MPH and did NOT return. Another confirmed fix! Thanks for the tip, as the vehicle threw no codes concerning the abs light and the traction control light.
Many thanks for your video. ABS, service 4 wheel drive, stability control dash lights on. No cruise control. And last but not least, the backup sensors disabled. All because the left rear wheel speed sensor failed.
Man I wish I could buy you a beer. I went to the dealership for this EXACT issue, ABS error message started coming on randomly and then eventually it comes on and stays on every time I move the truck. They plugged their little doo-dad into the dash and said "It's an internal error, we need to replace the whole abs module. We can do it next month and it'll cost $1900." I laughed in their faces. I found this video after 15 minutes of looking online, I'm picking up $20 worth of sensors from the parts store tomorrow. If this works I'm a good mind to go back to that dealership and take them to task for being scam artists.

Thank you so much Pete for such informative video, I have the same problem with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, could you guide me where to buy the sensors, thanks in advance
I'm not sure how the speed sensor looks on a 2011 jeep grand Cherokee. I have a link in the description under the video for a 2012 ram, just go on Amazon and search for your vehicles wheel speed sensor and if you can, make sure they look the same as what's on your vehicle.
Before you change the sensor you should take the wheel off and check the gear the sensor reads from some times the gets covered in brake pad debris and makes the sensor think the wheel is spinning really fast because it looks like solid metal no breaks.
I took my car to a mechanic and after they worked on the wheels ABC and Tcs off are showing on the dashboard. I will go back to them to correct that. Thanks so much
Will that also cause my service 4wd light to come on with them. When I start my truck the abs and traction control light come on and right behind them the service 4wd light comes on.
These are ONLY on the back wheels then? Nothing on the front? Having similar problem. The lights on dash stopped happening, but now my ABS will randomly kick on during normal braking around town. Brakes still work but its an uncomfortable feeling and probably makes brakes work less effectively.
I replaced both my rear wheel sensors and that did not fix my problem. My truck was hit on the front left wheel last year so I assume that’s where the issue is. I replaced that one last night. So it should take a few days to clear if that was indeed the problem. We’ll see
I had the same lights on my 2009 dodge ram rear wheel drive truck. I changed both rear sensors today drove all day around the city at least 30 miles but the lights are still on. Any reason why they won't go off?
My abs light is on,brake lite, service 4x4,traction control lite is on and cruise control don't work and when my truck is started it won't come out of park but wen the key is on the on position it will come out of park..code scanner showed abs wheel sencors
How did you know it was the rear speed sensors and not the front? My 2017 just started displaying the ABS & traction control lights. Want to make sure I purchase the correct sensors, thanks.
Because my truck was rear wheel drive and not four. The speed sensor is used for traction control to check that the wheels are spinning the same or not.

Unfortunately in my Chrysler / Jeep Compass it's always the tone ring magnet that goes bad not the sensor part so it's part of the axle assembly and not the sensor itself. I have had to replace both back ones and it's a pain in the butt. It's the same for me. All the lights come on from ABS to traction control and you can't engage the cruise control while the tone ring is causing the fault.

My 2012 2500 has this light (ESC only) on preventing use of the cruise control, but I have never disconnected anything related to the power steering system. I have replaced all upper and lower ball joints (what a job...don't ask).....thoughts?
This sounds like what is wrong with my 2008 durango. The brakes will actually engage very slightly by themselves at very low speeds randomly. Been driving it with this issue for the last week and now the cruise control doesn't work. Think it's the same issue?
Thanks much Pete. Replaced both sensors on my 2012 Ram. One came off as you show but the other one was stuck despite my many threats and foul language. So I removed the bolt and pulled out the whole affair. If you look at the sensor end with the bolt hole on the right and there are two rails attached to the sensor. Similar to pistol rails. Use a pair of needle nose pliers, grab one of the rails and pull out the sensor.
My driver side is not the same size as the passenger side. The part listed in the Amazon link (257) fit the passenger side, but is too big for the driver side. The part looks the same just smaller in diameter. I have went to all the parts stores and everyone list the 1 size fits all. Anyone else have this issue and if so what part did you use and where did you get it?
The truck I had was 2 wd but it's all connected. If those sensors go out it thinks the wheel is not turning so your 4wd light will come on and your cruise control will not work.
Mine did the same thing with the 4x4 light also, but when I stop and start moving, it feels like my left front caliper is grabbing and the traction control light flashes for a second. Once I get moving the light goes out. I think I may have a sticking caliper. Any ideas? 2011 Ram 4x4....
I am having this same issue on my 2016 Laramie Longhorn. But I am having trouble finding just the sensor in parts stores. All I can find is the entire ABS speed sensor package that has the connector, modules, etc. Where can I fin JUST the sensor itself, as seen in this video? The ones I found online say they do not fit my truck. Thanks!
I just experienced this today in my 2012 express. I used the Amazon link and ordered 2 sensors. Thanks for posting. Just curious did your truck feel like the rear end was slipping intermittently before this happened? Mine did it a few times and then it stopped a couple of days ago then this today.
My abs , traction control and brake light came on. Would it still be the sensor? It has brake fluid, change front and rear brakes, the battery is good. Took to auto parts store and its not throwing a code.
Did you have any issues with braking though? My truck seemed to want to kick on the ABS system when it wasn’t needed. Then I’d experience the problem you have described in the video. Of course, maybe it’s because the sensor(s) are bad that the ABS is activating at the wrong time. Either way, I’ll try this fix first. Thanks much.
I have an 08 3500 dually. They should be on all 4 wheels. They may be different from what he shows in the video. Check to see if there is a wire running from your pumpkin or wheel well down toward the brakes. That will lead you to it. Some fasten in at a different place and different angle. All 4 wheels have them to brake the vehicle in a straight line. They operate in milliseconds from each other to apply the brakes evenly in case some aren't worn or gripping the same as the others. If you Google it you should find them. Dodge or Ram may call them " Electronic Stability Control" as mentioned above in a post.
You could probably bring your vehicle to an advance auto parts or Oreily's auto part and they can hook it up and run a diagnostic check to see what is giving you the traction control light.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I took my 2014 Chrys 300C to 3 parts stores for a scan for ABS / Traction faults and they all said they could not or were not authorized to read those. Like its some Stealership secret stuff? What a crock. The car has only 47K. Chrysler products seem to have issues with any and all types of sensors. A year ago the V6 ( at 38K ) lost power due to a bad oil pressure sensor. The stealership wanted $300 just to read the code. I diagnosed it myself with a little web searching and fixed it. I can’t seem to remove the ABS sensor itself from the hub. Any tips? I can get it removed as a whole, but not out of the unit that it plugs into.
I agree with the comments, we should be able to buy you a beer for this 🍻
This sounds like what is wrong with my 2008 durango.
👍
Did scan for codes and get a code C1073 ABS pump motor control circuit?
My driver side is not the same size as the passenger side. The part listed in the Amazon link (257) fit the passenger side, but is too big for the driver side. The part looks the same just smaller in diameter. I have went to all the parts stores and everyone list the 1 size fits all. Anyone else have this issue and if so what part did you use and where did you get it?
Great video! Do you know if this is a common problem on the 15 ram 5500?
Not sure but a lot of vehicles have this problem with sensors going bad.
Did your light that says 4wd service light came on at all ? Mine has those 2 light u mention plus the 4wd service one ?
The truck I had was 2 wd but it's all connected. If those sensors go out it thinks the wheel is not turning so your 4wd light will come on and your cruise control will not work.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading thank you for the video very helpful do you happen to know where you got those part at ?or have a link to them
I think I got the sensors at either Advanced auto parts or O'reillys auto parts.
Mine did the same thing with the 4x4 light also, but when I stop and start moving, it feels like my left front caliper is grabbing and the traction control light flashes for a second. Once I get moving the light goes out. I think I may have a sticking caliper. Any ideas? 2011 Ram 4x4....
Did you ever figure out the problem?
I have a 2013 1500 and I checked the rear and front and couldn’t find the sensors , any idea where else or am I missing something?
Is this the same for front cause i just had front end work done now my lights are on
I am having this same issue on my 2016 Laramie Longhorn. But I am having trouble finding just the sensor in parts stores. All I can find is the entire ABS speed sensor package that has the connector, modules, etc. Where can I fin JUST the sensor itself, as seen in this video? The ones I found online say they do not fit my truck. Thanks!
Some Rams are different depending on the year. I think I got mine at either O'Reilly Auto Parts or Advanced auto parts.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Yea, that is where I have looked too. Thanks for the response.
Do you remember what you bought? I am having same issue with my 2014 Sport and I am only finding the whole package like you mentioned. Thanks.
My 2011 Chrysler 300 does the same thing, I'm gonna try this thanks
👍
check fuses. they might be loose. it will trigger abs, esp light. dodge vehicles. pcm fuse might be blown or loose.
Were did you purchases them.
Will this work on the 2015 longhorn I have the same issue.
14.8 mpg?! Thanks for the video - saved me some $$$
👍
Hi, is it the same procedure for the front wheel??? Thanks
I've haven't done any with front wheel sensors but I would think it's pretty much the same.
Yes
My abs fights me from a dead stop but I’m having the same problem with the lights, was yours doing this as well?
Where do you get the sensors from? I need them shipped to Australia. cheers for the great video!
There's a link in the description under the video.
Question, when limited slip light is on was your truck feeling like trans slip for a second on take off?
No, I don't remember that happening but I'm sure it's possible since it's all connected.
Is there a trick to getting the wire harness off? Can’t seem to get it loose
I have a 21 ram 1500. Took it in to get pinion beating fixed. Now ABS light on, traction control lights on n cruise wontvwork
My ABS module costs 500.00
I just experienced this today in my 2012 express. I used the Amazon link and ordered 2 sensors. Thanks for posting. Just curious did your truck feel like the rear end was slipping intermittently before this happened? Mine did it a few times and then it stopped a couple of days ago then this today.
Did you ever figure out the issue?
@chrissmothers3636 the new sensors fixed the issue 👍
How did you know to change rear wheel sensors? Did you do a diagnostic test?
The truck is rear wheel drive. but if you have a 4x4 the it's just best to change them all.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading should be one on all 4 wheels to apply the brakes evenly on all wheels to keep vehicle braking in a straight line.
Is this compatible with a Dodge Challenger SRT8 ? Exact same problem.
I'm not 100% sure if the SRT8 uses the same sensor. But yeah you'll have to change it out.
Can the sensor be cleaned with some brake cleaner and then change the sensor if the cleaning did not work? Thanks, Pat
No, the unit is sealed. There must be some kind of magnet inside.
My abs , traction control and brake light came on. Would it still be the sensor? It has brake fluid, change front and rear brakes, the battery is good. Took to auto parts store and its not throwing a code.
Could be, mine wasn't throwing a code either.
I have the brake light on not the ABS light would it be the same
Where did you buy sensors?
I don't mind changing both the driver and the passenger side, but are these on all 4 wheels or just the rear axle?
Just the rear axle.
I didn't have any issues with braking.
Loop
Will try thanks
I have a 2012 ram 3500 and I didn’t see this on my back wheels. I have a 6.7 cummins. I dont know if that makes any difference
I’m dealing with this traction control light only staying on, any idea if this is the fix ?
You could probably bring your vehicle to an advance auto parts or Oreily's auto part and they can hook it up and run a diagnostic check to see what is giving you the traction control light.
@Shaun Danylchuk Did you ever find the issue? I have the same issue as you, just the traction control light.
Sam Moore no, it went away finally hasn’t come back on so, fingers crossed it’s not an issue anymore.
Shaun Danylchuk Mine did the same thing for a while but eventually the sensors died.
The brand has lost my respect.
Hi thanks for the video, does it fixed your cruise control?
Yes it fix the cruise control because it's all connected.
Thanks buddy. Im doing mine this weekend
Wow you did it very good video save money thanks Peter
