Thankyou! As a beginner with 4 visits to my local river, I was making a kind of roll-cast but it was accidental and it didn't always work properly. I lost 5 flys in 2 sessions, in the bushes behind me. Now, after watching this video I can see exactly what I was doing wrong and how to correct it. So simple and yet so effective.
Awesome! I really like the way you catch the fly without taking the line in to roll cast it again same distance. I have tied so many flies that I want to test next spring, this is a nice way to do it. Thank you for sharing!
MR WHITLOCK IT'S A PLEASURE TO SEE YOU STILL TEACHING YOU ARE ONE OF MY MENTORS FROM 40+ YRS AGO ALONG WITH MANY MOORE OF THE GREATEST FLIFISHERS. KEEP YOUR BUG IN THE WATER!!!!

I learned so much from this man I can't begin to tell it. I'm 70 now and started learning from Dave in my early thirties. I will miss him. RIP
This has to be one of the best rollcasting tutorials I’ve seen yet. Thank you sir. Cheers from Canader eh!

Haha well if you aren’t losing flies then you aren’t fishing!

@4:48 , he makes that look so easy, I can see sinking a hook in my hand.
Great demo from one of the greatest, so much valuable info to only be watched once.
Will share and new sub here ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
who else here knows how to roll cast but still likes to hear the old timers talk about fly fishing?
Any tips on how to roll cast with the fly in your hand like that? I have a spot that is about the only way you can cast and I struggled with it.
Classic Dave teaching.
4:12 , that fish almost grabbed the fly haha
If i was i'm i can't resist to catch it!
Rest In Peace, Dave. You were a true renaissance man in our sport and will be greatly missed.

This guy makes it look so easy. Just puts that fly anywhere he wants. Fish have no chance!
Ha! True. He's not in several halls of fame for nuthin' :)
Dave: if you get hung up on something grab your line and make a roll cast. There’s your fly”
Me: 🤯
So sad... this man had skill and understood the mechanics of fly fishing 100. Rest in peace
