I only hope the "pushed brown" joke doesn't go unnoticed/unappreciated
I mean, if you push it, it's probably going to be brown.
There's brown, and then there's PUSHED brown.
...aahhh, push it...
...push it real good...
I chuckled
It’s the opposite of unforced brown. One can be sculpted, the other has a more fluid vibe…
Ola, you should use your $500 guitars when testing distortions or Amps. Of course equipment will sound amazing when you use your expensive guitars
Training Day reference? 😎
it's like a giant metal zone
Fr 😂😂
😂😂😂
Well... it's Boss' and Metalzone is one of the distortions. Kinda obvious.
very glad to see you being well and able to sit again after your surgery
Why had he a surgery? Back pain? Because of the guitar?
Now he's bionic
@@slizhersciatica
@@slizher Too much headbanging in front of the mirror.
Lol
2:16 wtf is going on with the timer 🤣 those are not seconds!!!
Christ on a bike, this man is working his ass off. This vid came out the day before Sweden Rock, he was on stage on Friday afternoon in front of a gazillion people at the opposite end of the country, and by Sunday he was back home posting another vid! Respect man.
Probably made them all in a batch and then scheduled them to upload when he was busy. Still doesn’t take away his work ethic, he still had to make all the videos
When you begin using the Tone Studio system, this set up becomes untouchable for the price and versatility!
Truth.
Fact
Katana FxFloorboard Software opens up even more. Access to "hidden" Amps, free effects chain arranging etc. It's free software btw.
Got an Artist MkII head recently and it's far and away the best guitar purchase I've ever made that isn't an actual guitar. It's wild how much I can do, I have a setting for Nile and a setting for Van Halen and a setting for cleans a la Ozzy No More Tears album. I still have barely scratched the surface of the capabilities of it, I absolutely love it. Oh and if you like chorus, the DC-30 option is insanely fun.
Same man! I just got my artist mk2 a few weeks ago and by far the best purchase I ever made I literally cannot sleep at night because of how excited I am to wake up and play it the tones I get from it are ear candy
Dans quelques mois tu le revendras.
So do you own a tubed amp?I’ve been thinking about getting this but I’m iffy about it (Don’t want to overspend) it’s sounds amazingly good!
@@fraterlemuele.s.l.d.6435 yeah I have a 6505 1x12 combo that I re-worked into just being a head. I just haven't touched it since I got the Katana cuz it does everything I need and more, at controllable volume while still sounding great, and plays through studio headphones too if I need it to.
I tried it and got DT25 over it heh.
It's a monster amp. As a guy in his mid 40's who grew up lusting after tube Marshalls and old fuzz pedals, but didn't have a couple of grand to drop on them, it's just an incredible age that we live in.
CHUUUUUGGGG!!! Hellz yeah Ola! Glad to see you healthy and CHUGGING!!!
Zemist Roakes
I've had my Mk1 for over 5 years now, and still love it. Gen 3 has to be 3x as good, so it would probably make my head explode.
no better than mkII
@@bikeman1x11 Have you tried both? What are your thoughts?
@robowenmikels mkII is much bounds better than the original. The original sounds muffled
I have a first gen Katana. It's as terrific now as it was when I first bought it. Thanks for chugging, Ola!!!!!!!!!!!! (I even have a Katana mini just for fun).
Same, it's a great amp for its price range (at least when it was released, cause like it's not for sale new anymore).
I love the mini. I can noodle for weeks on 6 AA's and it sounds more than decent
That sounds absolutely amazing, also I'm glad the surgery went well, back surgery is very risky, but back pain and sciatica is no joke, I hope no one ever has to go through this
If I push a brown, I’ll have to wipe my pants
It's kinda mindblowing to me how this third gen was underwhelming for so many people - just and only because the first Gen Katana really was already THIS good and THIS groundbreaking. There really is a pre and a post Katana world in affordable home amplifiers (and not even just modelling but home amps period. Why ever should you buy any other transistor practice amp for playing at home when the 50 is only 200 bucks and can do literally everything you'll ever need at home, including being a full fledged recording interface, including DI signal and reamping?)
This is the exact answer! I love using my MKII as DI in but still be able to hear a dirty tone while Im tracking from the amp itself
The 50 has no send-return effect loop or compatibility with the GA-FC footswitch though. The speaker is not as good either. But at half the price... It is a hard choice.
0:10 spot on borat impression
@channelname7349 very niiice!
Very niice!
Good ear lol
I pushed some brown this morning after I had my coffee! Yay!!!!
Lmao
Sorry, the symbol/kanji means "sword". That's the meaning of Katana in Japanese. The word/kanji "strength" has a little vertical stroke above the top horizontal line. Lol, first time I explained kanji in English 😅
The shop that ends up selling this should put a fancy tag on it...."Chugged by Ola"🤘
8 months? sheesh ... got CHUG withdrawals ... Hope your Back is feeling better Ola!
Ii was thinking about getting a gen 3 to add with the evhiii 🤘🏻 but after this FUCK NO 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Welcome back!
Katana...most sold and most re-sold amps 🤣
Sounds great! I’m making my video at the moment!
Had a MKii head for a while and found that some onboard effects sounded better than others. As an amateur musician, I was not disappointed with the thing. I sold it and pre-ordered the Artist-Head Gen 3.
@robowenmikels haha yeah like I said, not disappointed. I only occasionally got annoyed with the buttons being on the top back. It's part of what convinced me to switch to Artist. I think top buttons are probably less annoying on a combo, but I don't have room for combos T_T
Sounds brutal. Love the demos of this. Also that guitar looks well nice with the pink!
the low end is really tight. amazing
upgraded my mark 2 with mix of 2 celestion 30s and 2 swamp thangs.. sounds unreal!!
This is the exact video I want. YOU PREDICTED MY REAQUEST THANKS OLA YOU’RE THE BEST!
Always great to see OLA feeling good and bringing back one of my favorite episodes Chug 4 Life🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🍕🍕😊
I miss this series! Happy you're back, Brother! Glad you're doing well.
Stepping back and getting rid of the placebo effect that Ola is playing on a boss katana.
The sounds we have been hearing were not very pleasing and are typical to any solid state amp.
Owning a mkII head. For sure possibilities for the buck is great and we would all wish to get such things many years ago.
Best distortion results I could get on Katana is actually using clean or crunch and adding distortion effect. And for sure work with the parametric EQ is key to get something usable.
Anyway… why am I writing this oO.
Good so have you back in shape Ola though
Yeah it sounds just OK here. I have an mk1 and sounds better than how he has it here
Hey, maybe someone could help me with my Katana 50 MkII. Overall, I'm decently pleased with the metal tone I dialed in, but I just can't dial out that particular fizzy/hairy sound in the tone. Also, when I compare my basic EQ settings to others who use the same amp, mine are set much, much lower. For instance, I have the bass set at 30, mids at 5, and treble at 35, and that's also accompanied with a 10-band EQ within the Tone Studio, with a mid boost as the booster (because the other choices sound even fizzier), and my tone is still pretty fizzy sounding. I've been patiently tweaking this amp and I do enjoy it overall, but I do find myself frustrated by it sometimes. In all honesty, I really don't know what I'm doing and I just go by what my ears can hear.
Maybe someone could help point me in a better direction. Any input will be appreciated. 👍
@@nckhed the fizziness you hear is what helps your tone stand out in a mix. Embrace the fizz.
@@unleashthefury111 I understand what you mean, but I'm just a bedroom player. I'm looking for a scooped tone, but nothing too extreme. Just a smooth, overdriven metal tone, kind of a perfect blend of Metallica and Slayer. Not too bassy, not too hairy, but not too scooped. Maybe it's all in my head, lol.
@nckhed
Don't be afraid to severely turn down 3KHz and everything up from there, and maybe even down to 1KHz At first it will sound muffled, but if you keep it like that for a few days you will forget the treble you cut...you get used to it and the fizz is gone. The fizz lives up there, trouble is, we are actually afraid to take it away.
Wow. Modeling has come a long way from my old Line 6 Spider when I first started playing. IMO the Katana is totally amp you could go out and gig with and not leave anything to be desired. It’s a good time to be a guitar player!!
It’s not modeling bro. Analog goodness.
I currently have a Mesa Boogie Rectifier combo, which is a great amp but it's just way too loud for my apartment. I can't get the Boogie to chug at a lower volume and anything past 1 might as well be on 10. I just need something that sounds dirty at a low volume. I played a Katana at Guitar Center and it's a fun little amp.
glad to see you're BACK in business ;)
Very punny!
Nowt worse than a bad back (maybe a bad tooth) so glad you are on the mend. Chug away..👍🇦🇺
They should had included 2 bluetooth devices, one for your phone, one for your guitar, period.
@@CoachT-gr1wo maybe they will in gen4
Straight to Brown Town! This is the way.
So the Boss Katana is how anyone can have the insanely good tone of Mark Morton and Willie Adler in just a few steps
im glad to hear your feeling better!
also ola is absolutely right,
if you already have a boss katana
there is no need to upgrade.
especally if you have a boss me80.
from my understanding the new line of katanas basically has a built in me80.
I had the 100w katana artist mkII. It did fine at home, but took it to a band practice and it completely disappeared even when turned all the way up. Entirely possible that I was doing something wrong, but how could 100 watts not be enough?
Eq the amp . On the computer.. I play the same amp and it does awesome. Plus amp in a box pedals do awesome in it too better note transparency.. but u need to pick up the 2k on the eq . And the 500 .. and take out any hz under 250 .. but after doing all that it's fantastic .. I got mine to djent really well
Nailed it with your comment about just dialing it in on the amp and go! Sometimes simple is better. Less is More! 🤘😝
I know it..instead of hooking up my EVH Stealth head last night I just plugged into my first Gen Peavey Vypyr 75 1-12" combo amp and was amazed at how great it still sounds and ease of use..just plug in and play. This Gen #3 Boss does sound kick ass and Ola always brings it !
How can be less more??
More is more!!!!
*angry neoclasical virtuoso sounds
@@UrzaTron707 lol I was thinking of that line haha… in a Swedish accent of course lol
@@lucwilson1 hahahhas the momrnt that I read your comment was an instant flashback lol
@@UrzaTron707 Rick Beato blocked my comments because I hurt his feelings about jazz music. I'd never figure a man in his 60's would do that, but that's social media for you. I unsubscribed from both of his channels. I'm tired of supporting people who silence my opinions just because I'm not blowing smoke up their asses. Old fart won't lose any sleep over it, I know. 🤷
The only review of this product I'll watch. 🤟
I will stick with my MK2 I only use mine with a pre amp pedal in the back now though as when I use the footswitch its too unpredictable & does weird shit at times
Its like previous version. Suffers from no noise gate its very apparent
katana's sound like trash man. Every single one I've tried or heard.
What if I have an actual katana, like a sharp one. Should I upgrade it to this amp?
Great to see you back and chugging away Ola!! Very glad to see your surgery went well and you seem to be doing fine! Really enjoyed the Boss Katana generation 3 amp video! I'm a fan of the amps and you as well! Wishing you all the best!
Underneath the word BOSS on the front is a kanji symbol for the word strength. As a tattoo artist of 20+ years I've had to do this symbol sooooo maaaany focking times…..how many?!? I don't know maybe 50…lol…noooo probably closer to 100. You learned something today! Have a great day humans!!
I always assume those tattoos mean chicken fried rice or something else silly.
力strength =/= 刀katana
Google translates it to "Force"
No, it is the kanji for katana. AKA the amp's name. I live in Japan and actually speak some Japanese. 刀 力 The first is "katana" the second is "chikara" or power/strength.
Not strength, power.
Sounds perfect! You may well have been a major part of Roland's success with this amp line.
Where’s the chug meter?
If people are considering getting one and are confused by the sounds. You pre load 3 effects per knob on your computer. There are literally DOZENS to choose from.
The sound profiles / combinations are almost endless
simple question - did you ever see him really criticizing any amp? this channel become a joke. when you put everything in proper mix, play with guitar that single pickup cost more than that whole amp and so on yeah it sounds "great". (tho actually this demo sound sucks, but yeah "it chugs" lol, every fking amp can chug).
tried previous katana, sounded like shit for real metal music (metal, not heavy rock). tried yamaha thr, sounds flat and boxy. tried spark, actually could be best of all 3 but tremolo black metal stuff on downtuned guitar sounds meh.
That sounds really great, perfect demo of the chugability. 😎
For bedroom practice this amp is more than fine.👍
please do the Ministry pedal at some point! im VERY interested to see if it will chug like they say it will.
I doubt you'll see this and want to spend the time trying it, but is there any chance you still have the Wampler Dracarys distortion pedal and could try it through the Gen 3 katana? I have the dracarys and it sounds sick through my old amp, but for some reason it sounds like absolute shit through the mk1 katana 50. I don't know why, but in the Katana, it just sounds so mushy and loses all that tight chuggy sound, even if I turn the bass all the way off on the amp.
Hi everyone. For the few who have answered my comments. I can recommend watching The Studio Rats channel about the various katana settings. This would help you to dial real usable tone accordingly.
@ola thanks for the good work. A tons of people would for sure love some patches created by you in a video where you are setting all parameters.
Ive been using the Mk II as a home amp for like 5 years. The new one looks great, i think i might have to get myself one of these
Pushed Brown
When dialed with the online features this thing is pretty crazy
Katanas are so good, my Mk. II is super fun! I wish these were around when I started playing in the 90s. We all had Peaveys and Crates.
Man that really chugs! Cool!
Back surgery is no joke. Damn near cured my sciatica 19 years ago tho and I’m young. 🤷♂️ glad you’re feeling well! Be careful lifting those cabs and amps.
Man I wish they had these when I first started playing guitar, or hell even when I first started writing and recording.
Marshall MG10? the most famous one
I think its sounding hollow and like a cardboard box. I know its a yt video.
It can sound like that in person to a degree. I've experienced it myself with my Katana 50 that I've had for four years now. It seems to occur when you crank the master to a certain level. It's almost like it can't get any louder and it just starts to sort of get woofy, for lack of a better term.
3:04 Jethro Tull's Sweet Dream riff right there, hahaha. Coincidence! :D
Can you try out the laney irf dual top
Katana ,,the best amp i ever bought.
ola is the goat, inspires me to always chug any amp i see or touch
I have the mk2 50 watt and it is a chug machine if you get the settings right, you just mainly need to balance out the booster and the gain
Ola what mic are you using here?
just got a volar v type should come in around 2-3 days super exited
i got the boss katana mkII head and its by far best $300 ive spent on any guitar gear you can achieve any tone from harcore deathmetal to anything else
Agreed. The sneaky amp Fender twin sounds beautiful.
Proud owner of BK 50 mk 2!Heavy as fuck!🤘🏻
I looking for this but mk2 , is it good for djent ?
I hope this monster got some alot bass aspecially from a 12 inch woofer in it. from a 10 inch and 12 inch bass woofer and bigger amps like these i hope these have a ton of bass in it. i would be dissappointed if it doesn't got good bass from this monster. I'll have to hear and sound test it in person for myself
Fkn Awesome ! Thank You Ola
Did not like the katana. Better get used Peavey Bandit.
Heck ya bro. I agree. I have an old peavey bandit 112 red stripe 100watt and the thing is an absolute amazing work horse and sounds good doing it 🤘🏻
A peavy bandit 65 tube amp sounds killer 💪💯. I had a couple of them
I wish never got rid of my bandit… That thing sounds amazing for how small it was.
OLA: Send me a GEN 4 to see if will chug
BOSS: Sure
OLA: It chugs, but I wouldn't recommend buying one if you already have one
*** GEN 5 comes out ***
OLA: Send me a GEN 5 to see if it will chug
BOSS: Well. we are sold out, we will send you one as SOON as they come in
OLA: (year later) Where the FUK is my GEN 5 to do my chug demo?
Sounds too fuzzy and muffled to me....not impressed
I have a mark1 katana and you can not really dial that out. Presence maxed and it still sorta has that blanket over the speaker sound
I've never thought the Katana sounded that good. It really starts hurting your ears after playing for a bit. That being said, when buying my first amp, I would have killed for something like this over the Spider II 2x12 I bought and then used exclusively for 16 years..... It's great tool to get new guitarists a complete rig for the least money. But for metalheads, I still recommend the Peavey Vyper X-series as a starter amp.
Dang Ola! come on man! No way this this chugs. It may be a gain machine but there's Zero "BUTT"! Absolutely No Ass, and what bottom is there is far far far away from tight! Stop trying to sell "CRAP". It's not your style man! We Love you! Don't blow that. Instead have a $500 Shoot out!
I remember when practice amps sounded like butt. That does not sound like butt.
The Gen 3 Katana has a "bloom" button switch above the Amplifier Volume control but appears to be missing on your amp! I don't understand because my Katana Gen 3 head does have that bloom button! Maybe the combo doesn't have that function???
one thing is the Gen3 does not work with their channel selector foot pedal.
Yup it does. GA-FC and GA-FC EX. EX version is preferred one to use though. 👍
Great to see you haven't lost your chugability, guess you better stay away from heavyweight lp geetars and dont move any marshall stacks.
That katana could work for you.
Also I believe swimming and yoga can save your back!
The katana Mark II had Bluetooth connectivity free wtf? Is there a speaker upgrade at least? It's a clean monitor speaker iirc, and no you don't need the app - I've always used my mk2 with a FX processor anyway 👌
It's a cool Amp. I have the gen 2.
Sell it...and upgrade immediately...lol
For bedroom players... Yes!
That brown sound worked. I have to change my diaper at my earliest convenience.
It's been too long! 🤘 But what happened to the 'Chuggometer'?
Without watchig it… of course it will chug. What did you expect? They removed all the gain stages from the circuit? Don’t be ridiculous.
i personally love the katana through a greenback. takes care of most of the fizzyness and gives the midrange centerstage. definitely worth a try
I run my mk2 head through 2x12 WGS ET90s. You're so right about good speakers getting rid of those horrible highs
Since you took 32 seconds before realizing that the amp wasn’t on, and the final will it chug time was 2:09, the true will it chug time was about 1:37.
I loved mine until it kinda crapped out and now does some weird volume jump thing and the effects turn on by themselves. It will now cost more than what i paid for the Amp to have it fixed as there are no techs that can do it. Never buying digital again.
I'm so happy to see this. I was just looking through your videos 3 days ago because I was about to order this. I ended up placing the order, and it'll be here tomorrow. I'm so glad I did. It sounds awesome.
You paid how much for it?
Maybe better to get the seperate head and make a stack instead of the combo if you gig.
@@johncollins5552 I don't gig anymore. But my 5150 with 4x12
cab is all I have. So I wanted something small. The Katana is awesome!
@johncollins5552 not needed. The 100W Katana models can easily keep up in the backline and the LINE OUT direct to the desk takes care of the FOH.
I have a MkII Artist combo and even on the 50W setting, it's easily loud enough in the backline.
@@kevinmcguinness1113 I can attest to that! At home I use the 0.3 watt setting with master at 10 o clock and it will ring my ears. This is in a fairly large room!
Should I buy this Katana or Peavey vyprx3 for CHUGGING?
That guitar model is nasty! Do you offer payment plans?
Lol very good.👍
Ok, pls tell me what is the point of the modelling combo if you could buy a neural dsp or every other plugin much cheaper? Sounds good tho.
Is there anybody knows that does this amp work well with pedals and is it good for shoegaze or clean shit? And is amp channels simulating other good amps or not?
I have the MK2 and the only thing I'd maybe do is swap out the speaker. I also have amp sims and i can play through both together and oh man its cool 🤘
And!... get a KatcabV2 to enjoy your combo pluged into a 4x12 Mesa (or whatever... ).
