Shorty Header Mod Review

  • Short Tube Headers upgrade worth it? Let's talk about the performance, price & review the shorty headers! Many look into BBK Shorty Headers or JBA Shorty Headers. Long tube headers are clearly the favorite over short tube headers! Many underestimate the Shorty header mod, rendering it useless - there is a reason it has been a massively popular mod for so long. Shorty headers are great as a direct bolt on for an everyday driver that wants a little more power & torque for acceleration ramps. Most want those Long Tube headers for maximum HP/Torque gains which is understandable but the cost difference is drastic. I hope this helps any Dodge or Mopar owner!

  • @vortecd

    I would have liked to see the only change was the long tube headers but I understand why. The exhaust made more hp but you don't know how much the cat back picked up. So it is really hard to say what the difference is between the shorties and long tubes.

    • @RTLife
      @RTLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would be shocked if the high flow cats & 3" catback made anymore then 2-4whp & 5 in torque.... I just don't make enough power at this point. But you're right, not a fair comparison because the shorty headers had more restriction behind it with 2.25" piping, stock cats & flowmaster 40's.

    Say brother, I’ve started my (slow) upgrade progress on my ‘18 R/T. Did the 91 canned tune (for now, custom after headers) and an Afe Momentum GT intake and now I’m looking at shorty headers.
    What sort of real world power increase should I expect over stock headers? I’ll never supercharge and only really want close to stock 392 sort of power when I’m done all the while keeping my factory exhaust intact (it’s perfect, we love it). So shorties are my choice. I’m looking at the BBK shorties mostly due to my budget.

    • @RTLife
      @RTLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will 100% pick up gains once the shorty & tune is in place. You won't really gain a massive amount on the top end but the torque & low end performance certainly sees a nice bump. The stock manifold (headers) restrict air flow so any improvement will be noticeable over stock.

    If you have a 5.7 and live in a state with strict emissions testing the shorties are a good option over the factory installed logs that they call manifolds. The way I like to explain it: The 840hp Demon exhales through shorty headers. Sure, LT's will always net more horsepower due to better scavenging, but shorties on a 5.7 will in NO WAY be restrictive on a bolt-on car or even with mild boost or cam.

I don't think it was lost as much as they didn't gain anything (or only small gains) down low and all the gains were up high.
